I had recurring great experiences until today. I have been going to this barbershop for about 8 months. In those 8 months I’ve gone 4 times. I don’t get my haircut that often. I would call and make an appointment, show up early, get a great cut and leave. Dante is always friendly and does a great job. However what I experienced today really upset me after I got the opportunity to think about it. I called them early Friday and spoke with Dante and asked what appointment times were available on Saturday. I chose 12 and gave him my name and that was it. I showed up around 11:45(I’m always early) and waited. After waiting over 20 minutes for Dante, he came up and asked if I had an appointment, to which I replied yes. He paused and told me he didn’t remember. There were two other guys there that appeared to be waiting. I asked if I should come back later. He said nothing. I could tell the answer was no. I’m naturally non confrontational and chose to just say no worries and said id make another appointment next week and left. It was kind of embarrassing. I felt like there was an assumption that I lied about the appointment. The more I thought about it, the more upset I got about the fact that I had to be the one who’s time was wasted, and asked to reschedule simply because they didn’t schedule right. It’s tough to find a good barber that offers reasonable pricing, and once I find a place I like, I don’t like to leave. However, this has unfortunately prompted me to begin looking around again. I may go back, but I didn’t like that I was required to leave and reschedule. I also didn’t like the feeling that it was assumed that I made the mistake. Why didn’t the other guys have to reschedule? I recommend that this shop find a better way of keeping their schedule.

Rich does an amazing job. I’m so glad I found him.For the client that came in before me (I assume he will leave a nasty review here soon) Rich handled the outburst very well, better than most would have handled. Miscommunication from the client led to a haircut that was PERFECT but not what he wanted.

My son went in for a cut today as a walk in and they were great about working him in. He loved the cut and the extras he normally doesnt get at other places - straight razor, shampoo and style. Great place!

One of the best haircut experiences I have had in a long time. Dante is great and really spent the time to get my haircut right since it was my first time using his services. I am definitely going back and highly recommend him to anyone! This is my go to barbershop now.

I love this place a lot! I have gone twice already and have been impressed every time with my haircut. I use to go to Great clips and Sports clips, but was never really happy with my cut. This is what a real barber shop should be. Also, the decor is old fashion style and very inviting.

I came in on a whim one day to get cleaned up before a job interview, and walked out with a new place to get my haircut every time I need a haircut.Both of the barbers are very talented, and are committed to making sure you get the best haircut possible for a fair price. They go above and beyond just cutting and styling. Each visit, Ive been treated to a post-cut shampooing, a relaxing message, and a fine razoring along my neckline to make sure the cut is as pristine as possible.I love this place, and I will always get my hair cut and styled by the fine gentlemen that bless us with their talents there.

I had not been to a actual “barber shop” in a year or so, I went off the deep end and got stuck in a “great clips, super cuts, sports clips” dark hole for a while. We want to believe there is a good stylist hidden in those places, someday we will find, but it never happens gents. I chose this shop simply because it is close to me. I went in and took first available. Dakota has been my barber for 3 years and we both recently moved to San Antonio. She found this barber shop and started working Sunday and already I can tell that she loves it. Dante and Rick welcomed her and introduce her to everyone that walks through the door. If it’s your first time here I can guarantee Dakota can get you in the chair right away. She does facials, signature shaves, haircuts, color, and waxing. She makes sure her work is to the best she can do. The prices are fair and worth the service!

I walked in to get a haircut and sat for about 10 minutes before someone approached me. I was told it was by appointment only and they would try to work me in. Which was fine. I sat for about 20 minutes and decided to leave. One of the barbers followed me out the door and told me that appointments were for my convenience. I didnt see it that way and he continued to follow me to my truck. To the point that I had to ask him to stop and get away from me. He still pressed on. I got in my truck and left.

Dakota took AMAZING care of me, and on my bday too! Her tips for my hair have not only helped me, but made me feel like whole new woman! As well as the hair cut she gave me too. It sucks she’s at this location, which is super far from me. But I will be coming back here, for her from now on!

Gave this place a try and Im happy to say this will be my new barber shop. Asked for Dante, based on reviews and he didnt disappoint. Im very picky about my hair and I was glad that Dante patiently listened to my style request and did exactly what I wanted. Atmosphere is very cozy and comfortable.

Great place, clam. People that work there have been there for a long time which is always a good sign. Was able to book an appointment and get in the same day. Good prices as well. Happy to potentially have a consistent barber, instead of the usual new barber ever time due to unhappy employees and high turnover.

Got a new cut. The shop is a fair size with very knowledgable barbers. The prices were fair. Will definitely be back.

Having just relocated from across the Pacific Pond a few months ago, I was in search of a barber that would be able to shave my head clean. The last place I lived, none of the barbers would attempt such a thing.Called 5th avenue to see how much advance notice they would need for an appointment - - - as being new in town, I was not sure of the Texas definition of sense of urgency . . .Imagine my surprise when the nice gent that answered the phone stated that they could get me in at 12:30 that day.I showed up ten minutes ahead of schedule as a career in the military taught me it is better to be ten minutes early rather than ten seconds late.Dakota was ready for me. Great haircut. Straight razor hot shave all over my head that was much closer than I am able to get in the shower with one of those overly-expensive five blade monsters..I wont even mention the head and neck massage she gave me except to say she spoiled me completely. Damn! That woman has hot hands . . .Gave her a small tip - - - but she will get a larger one next time if she is able to repeat her stellar performance. Been about three weeks, so will need to schedule an appointment with her soon.She earned herself a new customer that day . . .

I go here for every hair cut these days, easy to make apppointments through text; haircut, beard trim and neck massage for 24$. Place is usually kept dim and never too many people instead, pretty relaxing place. Rick does a great job and does exactly what you ask for.

This was my first attempt at trying the modern barber shop out myself. All the great reviews made me believe that 5th Ave was a perfect choice to start. A phone call in the early morning set an appointment at 10AM, a call an hour later explained that the time needed to be pushed back; sure , things come up and I am 100% understanding of that. I schedule for 3PM. Arriving at 245 to make sure I wasn’t late or anything.Around 2:55PM Another gentleman walks in after me to the full shop, and greets Dante by name, clearly a regular. 3:10PM rolls by, still waiting, as Dante finishes his current customer , cleans, and then the gentleman who walked in after me is then invited to sit down. Hmmmm.Now, 3:25PM rolls around and I am bothered enough to no clear visible signs that I will be seen soon.Time and effort clearly wasted.As I depart , Dante comes out and begins depicting the occurrences that all boil down to , well , me not getting a haircut. This is not good business. Im sure the regulars here love it, and he seems like a nice guy, but my experience isn’t just about nice guys, but good business. I urge you to caution yourself in visiting this shop. Be sure to be as fluid in your schedule as water, and clear your schedule for who-knows-what that could prevent you from being seen.I truly hope this situation doesn’t occur to others venturing into the barber scene for the first time.

Had a lot of hair cuts in my lifetime and Dante is hands down the best at what he does. If you tell him what you want he can do it. The man is a hair genius!

I was very disappointed about the pricing for a trim. Took all but 10 minutes to trim. Didn’t do much of anything and it cost more then a haircut!! $28.99 for a trim and a haircut is $15.99!! Never saw the price listed anywhere!! Employee had to pull a sheet of paper to show me the price after Naomi stated the price was posted for all to see on the wall. I asked where and they couldn’t find the posted price on their wall either. Save your money go elsewhere!!!!

Dante Gamboa really treats my husband right. From precision cuts to hot shaves, to head and neck massage, it is exactly the spoiling he likes and deserves. Pleasing my very particular hubby is no small feat. And this is why he only goes to 5th Ave Barbershop. For five years, our two sons have been clients too!

Called to see if they could fit me in today, the guy who answered the phone just said hello so I wasnt sure if I was calling a business or a personal cell phone. He also couldnt have cared less about my haircut, guess they were already busy. I said have a nice day and he just hung up the phone.
