I visited this museum after needing to visit one for a paper and Im really glad I chose UMoCA! They require you to reserve a time to visit the museum to help with social distancing, which was really easy to do. It was also nice that I didnt need to print a ticket or show some sort of confirmation, since they have a list of names for each time slot. This museum is free to visit, but they do recommend a $8 donation, which I happily paid. The woman at front desk (I think her name was Sofie?) was so welcoming and nice! I have never visited any art museum before, let alone this one, and she spent the time explaining the best way to go through the museum with me. I really, really appreciated it, and I was already feeling very comfortable just from being in the front. I visited around noon on a Wednesday and it was mostly empty, so I was able to take my time with the galleries. Each exhibition had a pamphlet at the front that gave context. They also serve as nice little souvenirs and ways to remember what you saw. The museum was quiet and clean, though that may be different on busier days and times. Each piece had names and descriptions nearby, which really add to the understanding of the art. Speaking of the art, I love the current exhibitions and the way they are set up! Theres a very natural flow to it all and its spaced enough for adequate social distancing. Overall, my experience with the Utah Museum of Contemporary Art was amazing from start to end, and Im really looking forward to going back someday!

First of all, this place is not pleasant. I know its a mean to say, but this museum was not at all enjoyable. First and foremost, it is very small. Its not a really big place and there isnt a lot to do in it which I think occurs because of the size. Second, the art in this place is not very good. I am not an art critique by any means, but when I can do half of the art, I become quite unimpressed. There wasnt a lot of effort put into the art in this museum. Yes, some pieces seem like theyd be hard to replicate or do, but a good portion of them consisted of stapling paper to a wall. Moving on, the stairs in the place dont seem very stable. They bend under your feet and make noise when you step on them, disturbing the quiet of the entire place. They also have videos being portrayed as art and the sound on them is quite deafening. You can here them wherever you go in the museum and the music is actually quite eerie and annoying. I want to look at in peace when I can. All in all, this just wasnt a nice place in my opinion. I didnt like the art, the stairs scared me, and it also wasnt a really welcoming place. The music that was constantly playing from the videos was annoying and really loud and the art just wasnt something that set my heart aflame. In the end, the Utah Museum of Contemporary Art gets one star from me.

As an artist who travels to NYC regularly for art fairs and museums, I feel like this is a little patch of heaven in Salt Lake City.Though strolling through the museum on any given day is fascinating, I particularly recommend attending the opening receptions for shows. The people youll meet and learn from are just as incredible as the art!In the last year, Ive noticed that the caliber of shows has increased, with a strong presence of both emerging/established local and well-known national/international artists.Highly recommended for anyone looking to discover both new and already celebrated contemporary art!

This was a fun place to visit during an afternoon I spent downtown with my wife. There is no entry fee, but they encourage donations. I spent about an hour perusing the upper- and lower-level exhibits and saw a surprising array of art in a multitude of unique forms. They had videos, paintings, a live musician, and all kinds of abstract artwork. All of the art in the museum was strikingly evocative. If I have a single complaint, its that I felt like the descriptions of the artwork and the inspiration behind each piece were all forceful attempts to shove the artists agenda or perspective down my throat instead of letting the art speak for itself. All in all, a very fun place to visit.

Very friendly staff although the content delivered is far from what we could expect from a big city modern art museum. It does feel like the artists exhibited are trying a bit too hard to be edgy & controversial instead of creating art. Still interesting nonetheless, especially considering that it is free. I loved going to Utah Museum of Contemporary Art. Museums are like a spiritual experience for me, I could easily spend a whole day getting lost in a museum. However if there are too many people, someone is rushing me, or some special event, it gives me anxiety. I need my own pace to look and not time constraints. Mihe Staff were incredibly kind, which can make or brake an experienceThis museum was calming and quite inspiring. It made me want to come home, transform items I never use, into items that are considered average and repurposed them to something ASTOUNDING! Thank you for letting me have a wonderful time.

Terrible experience. I took my two young children and was treated like we were not welcome. I was teaching my children to not touch the exhibits and helping them keep their hands away. They were being very well behaved and quiet and I was watching them closely. We were yelled at by one of the workers, followed closely around the room and were told we needed to leave because my daughter put one of her fingers on one of the stands. The worker girl basically just did not want us there because she thought my well behaved children were going to ruin all the art exhibits just because they were looking at them closely. We will not be back again. Children and families are definitely not welcome. So if youre looking for a cool learning experience for your children, go anywhere but this museum because you will probably be told to leave if your child breathes within a foot of an exhibit.

Interesting gallery, quite quiet when I went which was nice to have the place to myself but I also finished it quickly so I wouldnt make a day trip of it.
