I called the Forest Hill Garage to ask about a problem with my battery. They gave me some advice over the phone of different things to try and I was able to get the car running, but had the same problem again a few days later. I dropped my car off on Monday after work and it was ready to go Tuesday afternoon. They found a problem that another repair company totally could not find and were able to repair the vehicle quickly and at a reasonable price. Then we swapped cars to get an oil change and inspection for our other car and they were able to knock that out to be picked up Wednesday afternoon. All in all a great experience and well definitely be back should the need arise!

These guys really are just fantastic - and I believe them to be the most honest, reputable, and just overall great-to-deal-with mechanics in the Richmond area. Great at first, listened well to my concerns about the car and took good notes. However, upon picking up the car, the person who worked on my car told me to drive my car into the James River. It would be one thing if he was just joking around but he was dead serious and frustrated that he had to work on my car. I took my car somewhere else and its been running great ever since. Glad I didnt take his advice.

I do not recommend Forest Hill Garage. Use at your own risk. Im new to the area and asked my neighbors for a good local mechanic and two out of the three I asked recommended Forest Hill. I am happy that they had a good experience but mine has not gone well. I will say they were nice, courteous and reportedly saved me some money on some things but 2 months after having my 2001 VW Beetle repaired and inspected there I am still having issues. I bought a battery from them that they installed. This week my car was completely dead. I just had to have the 2 month old battery replaced. The mechanic that put in my new battery told me that my 2 month old battery was not connected properly (connections loose) and IT WAS THE WRONG BATTERY FOR THE CAR (I cant take it back to Forest Hill since they had to take it due to the core). Im having issues with the radio that I didnt have before and several other issues that they supposedly repaired that are too many to name (Im hoping that a few issues are now solved due to the battery issue). I paid a lot of money for the repair at Forest Hill Garage and I am upset that I now have to spend more money for another mechanic to look at the car and a new battery.

After my car sat untouched at a different garage for two days, I called Forest Hill to ask if I could bring the car by this morning for a state inspection. They said yes, bring it, so I went and picked up the car from the other place and brought it to them. 5 minutes later, they were bringing my car into the bay, and I had a lovely chat with Chris for awhile to pass the time. 20 or so minutes later I was back in my car with a fresh inspection sticker. This place is great, hires vets, and didnt try to take advantage of a female bringing a car in. Highly recommend.

I would give zero stars if it was an option. After receiving a quote from them, I returned to get the work done (30 min drive one way) and they refused to do it. They curse at (yes AT, not around) their customers and they are extremely rude. I called before I took the truck back up there--they could have informed me then, or even attempted to call before I wasted time and gas, to cancel the work. They are inconsiderate and unprofessional. My family has gotten them to do work in the past and now refuses to take their vehicles to them in the future. I would not recommend them to ANYONE.

As a young women I know nothing about cars and have been taken advantage of in the past at other places. I have now been here twice and have been very impressed. They just inspected my car and it passed with no issues, that’s when you know a mechanic is honest! I truly appreciate having a place near by that I can trust.

I went here to get a state inspection because its located fairly close to my house. Soon after I received a call saying that my rear brake pads are bad and that it would cost $350 to replace them. The whole situation sounded fishy to me since the car didnt have many miles on it. Also, they called me 10 minutes after dropping it off which seemed like not enough time to get the wheels off and actually check the brake pads, yet they already had an estimate to fix them.I refused the fix and opted to do it myself. I bought new brake pads and when I was replacing the new ones, I realized the old pads were fine. They had over a 1/4 of material left (shown in the picture). They need to have over 1/16 to pass inspection in Virginia.I went back and got the inspection taken care of and then I showed them the old brake pads and asked them why my vehicle failed inspection. They guy was somewhat apologetic and paid me back $20 for the inspection, saying he wasnt the one that did the inspection. I appreciated this and thats why Im leaving 2 stars as opposed to 1. The person that did inspect my vehicle the first time was named Joseph Henderson.Im just leaving this review to let others know that Forest Hill Garage might have some honest mechanics, but from my experience it looks like they have some dishonest ones as well that will fail your vehicles inspection for no reason and immediately charge an obscene price to fix a non-issue. Just a warning.

I gave my 2010 car to my 16 y.o. son after I bought a newer one, and of course I want that older car to be safe as can be. For 4 years I have trusted Forest Hill Garage to do solid work in a timely fashion; to respond to any concerns I have about a car; and to not overcharge or come up with unnecessary repairs. And once again I got honest, expert service. I especially appreciate that they are attentive to customers fluctuating schedules even when they themselves are swamped. These folks are the real deal and Im lucky to have found them.

Tried to charge $78 for an oil change that they said was due to the cost of synthetic oil. Unbelievable.

Came in for second opinion on state inspection after I failed at another place. Guys were very professional and quick, had me in and out in less than an hour, passing this time. Showed me where the first shop had said Id failed and showed how it actually passed. Will definitely be back next year (or before).

I always feel comfortable when taking my car to Forest Hill Garage for service. It sucks, but as a female most people assume I know nothing about cars. Whether or not that is true, I feel I am given the same courtesy and respect as other (female and non-female) guests, based on my observations. This is something I consider when looking for reputable companies, no matter the industry, no matter how well the job is done, what customer service really comes down to is how it is handled. Every time I have had my car serviced here I have felt completely relaxed. I trust the expertise of the employees of the shop and know they are not simply there to nickel and dime me. We have coordinated at the time of each service, to determine what is necessary and/or ADVISE me on prioritization of services. It is always a conversation, not a you need this so we went ahead and did it, now pay us kind of deal. Another nice touch about this shop is that they work closely with the Advanced Auto Parts across the street for less common parts. I requested for my cabin air filter to be replaced, although it was not a requirement of the inspection (which was my scheduled service) and someone literally walked it over and installed it within minutes. I am so pleased. Also worth noting, I had requested several days in advance if it could be done during my lunch break which they assured me would work, when I arrived it was a little busy but they followed through on their assurance and got me in out within an hour. It was incredible. Thank you!!

Best car service in Richmond. I was a regular at a place off Patterson, but after having to leave my car, sometimes for 2days for simple repairs, I looked around. So happy I did. Not only has this place helped me right away, but the quality of work is outstanding; their friendliness second to none. The appeal of the waiting area doesn’t hurt either. I love this garage!

The guy in the front of the office (Chris) was AMAZING! All of the men there were nice and friendly but Chris really amazing. We chatted, laughed, and talk about life experiences. My girl and I have had several issues recently with our vehicles. We used to have a guy we could take them to, but he stopped doing it. We came upon this place and they have been super fair and transparent about the work they do. They even asked one time how much do you want to pay when we asked them to plug a tire for us. Came in for air service they told me that my belts needed changing. So I paid the 4 hundred dollars for new belts only 2 not have fixed the problem I came in for. 2 days later went back and they said its the compressor. We can fix it for another 1100$ No Thank You... I felt like they guessing what the problems are there. Women beware. I was so disappointed with the money spend for no reason that I just purchased a new vehicle

I went to get my door handle fixed in order to pass inspection.Called Tuesday was able to get it in the shop by Wednesday. I had to bring my vehicle back up to their shop 3 times cutting into my work schedule . And I still did not receive an expection sticker. Here it is Friday and the main reason I came to the shop still isn’t taken care of after I was told I could come back when I got off work to get the job finished. So then I was told to come back on Monday for a job that only took an hour to do. Never again very unorganized and part quotes were overpriced

This place has very high reviews for an auto shop. It deserves them. This was my second time there for a state inspection. First time I needed a new parking brake cable to pass inspection. I knew the old one had rusted and failed. This year they told me that new oxygen sensors would turn off engine warning light but I didnt need them to pass inspection. These guys are fair and honest. what more do you need?My wife goes there as well so its not just a guy thing.

New to the area and in a jam for auto repairs last Thursday morning. Brough my car here and left it with them to inspect while I went to work. Got a call from Chris an hour later to go over repairs and costs. Was quoted $84 per part and a final total of approx. $650 all in. Cost for repairs was overpriced but I was in a bind and needed it fixed ASAP. Gave Chris the OK and got a call back after 2pm that it was fixed. However, when I went to pick it up and pay my bill had unexpectedly jumped to $750. I asked Chris why this didnt match what I was quoted over the phone and he deflected blaming it on some other guy I mustve spoken to and wrote me a 10% discount on future repairs. I scanned my bill and noticed the cost per part was actually $25 more than what he quoted me over the phone. Needless to say I will not be giving them any future business. Suggest you stay away as well. Giving them one star for quick turnaround tho.

Great group of guys who wont shine you on about your car repair. Dont expect the cheapest price from this group and they wont run any specials either, but you also dont need to be worried about them selling you on repairs you dont need. I think overall that is worth much more than a small discount.If you know exactly what your car needs and can find a shop running a special on that particular thing (oil change, breaks, alignment, etc.) maybe youre okay going somewhere else, but if you want an honest opinion on your vehicle when you are clueless, here is a great place.

Called them this morning after 8 oclock to see if they could look at my wifes car because of an air conditioning issue, they agreed to look at it. We took it over around 10, and by 12, the car was fixed. I had no idea what the issue was, but after checking the car, they filled the Freon and fixed the issue. Not knowing, they could have easily told us we needed a flux capacitor (as my wife likes to put it) and wed had know no better. Highly recommend them for auto repair.

If youre looking for reliable mechanics who know what theyre doing and wont rip you off, this is the garage for you. Their prices aint the cheapest in town and its because they dont do cheap work. Theyre worth every cent. ,Im really grateful for all the help they gave me, and the patience they had with me and my car situation this Spring.My Jeep kept dying for inexplicable reasons, and after wasting my money at a few other shops, I finally came to theirs. They did excellent, timely work to get me back on the road. Jason explained to me what the issues were with the engine, and didnt patronize me or make me feel dumb at any point. I learned quite a bit from him, actually. (He was a tank mechanic in the military, so Im confident he can fix just about anything!) Also, when we were settling up what I owed them, they undercharged me (they worked ten extra hours troubleshooting the engine problem, and didnt add that extra time to the bill). So yeah, theyre literally the salt of the Earth kida folks.I think the best businesses are run by folks who empower their customers, and this is definitely one of those rare places.As it turns out, the extensive repairs necessary to fix my Jeep exceeded what I can afford, so I had to give up on that vehicle, but in no way does that reflect the abilities or work ethic these mechanics have. My Jeep Cherokee is simply too old (and was neglected for 5 years on a farm before I got it) so there are issues in it that run too deep for me to fix.In the future, when I need auto help, Ill look no further than their front door.Thank you so very much, Jason & Joey & all yall at FHG, I truly appreciate your honest work, and am happy to know you.
