They helped save our beloved dog after major tumor removal on her liver at the Veterinary Cancer Surgery Center. She literally almost died during surgery and after. She needed to be taken to DoveLewis for an emergency lifesaving whole blood transfusion. They kept her for two nights and because she was so near death, I owe them a million thanks for the 24 hour outstanding care she received. Whenever any of our pets have to go to DoveLewis for tests or emergency services, I never have to worry when they are in their care.Thank you DoveLewis from the bottom of my heart for saving our dear Mittens. She thanks you as well! Hugs to everyone!

Pets become part of a family very quickly! They become our best and truest friends! For this very reason, finding the right hospital when you need one is a huge blessing! Last week we needed one quickly and found DoveLewis!Farrah went quickly from happy, excited about meal times to a quiet, not able to keep food down pup. It turned out to be very serious with surgery needed that day! The Docs and Staff at DoveLewis were amazing in every way. Our doctors kept us informed by email and phone every day. They did not sugar coat anything but stayed positive and assured us Farrah was getting the best care! This type of dedicated care helped us sleep at night and deal with the quietness in the house. Her surgery was successful and she is getting better every day THANKS TO DoveLewis!

Monday night our 12 week old Chocolate Lab “Loki” started vomiting every 10 minutes non stop. We thought maybe he swallowed a small part of a stick or something. We called Dove Lewis and was told to bring him in immediately. Upon arriving Aide was so warm and caring. She put us in a private room because he hasn’t went through all of his shots. He was seen right away by a vet technician to make sure that he could at least breathe. Unfortunately we did have to wait another 8 hours before we were seen again. Although it was frustrating we could see and here that this was one of there busiest nights of the year. That said everyone was nice and professional in the face of major stress. Dr. Earl was awesome. Very informative and direct. She and Birdie stayed in communication throughout the day and kept me from losing my mind. In the end Dr. Earl and her team removed a 11 inch stick from our 12 week old puppy. How he managed such a large stick is a mystery. The fact that they got it out without damaging our dog was amazing. My puppy would not be here if not for Dove Lewis and Dr. Earl. Thank you so much for getting Loki back to us safe. We would recommend Dove Lewis to anyone.

I’ve depended on Dove Lewis for emergency pet care for over 25 years but nowadays when it’s impossible to see even your own vet for an emergency, Dove Lewis is a critical resource as the only vet that accepts all emergencies and stayed open 24-7 during the pandemic. In January my 2 year old Maltese fell down a flight of stairs, injuring her back and paralyzing her legs. Dove Lewis doctors paved the way for her to get an immediate CAT scan and successful surgery at VCA Northwest, the only facility in Portland that has a CAT scan machine. She is now romping around and enjoying life as before.Last week she stopped eating and was presenting bloody stools. I pent the night at Dove Lewis waiting to see a doctor for what was diagnosed as “dietary indecrestion” or she ate something she shouldn’t…. Not a big deal and some probiotic pils and rice fixed her right up. I watched so many animals much more ill than she was triaged and put in line before her that I was willing to wait. What’s more if the triage indicates your pet is not in immediate danger, there is no charge and you can be put your name on a list to return for an appointment in a day or two or take your pet home.Dove Lewis, in my opinion, fulfills the Hypocratic Oath for all animals and is the answer to a pet owner’s prayers. The staff, from the person who puts out snacks for anxious humans to the doctors are all caring, kind and very, very patient.

DoveLewis is one of the only 24/7 veterinary carefacilities that is still in full operation during COVID. That said, the wait is very long as people travel from hours away to receive treatment for their pets. The staff is incredibly patient and helpful despite constant stress and chaos. The estimate I received for my cat’s care was accurate and he was tended to well and is making a full recovery. Huge thanks to the entire staff at DoveLewis for operating under extreme circumstances and taking great care of our pets.

Dove Lewis saved my dogs life and I am forever grateful for the entire staff there! During Covid every veterinarian and emergency veterinarian are short staffed, overworked, and hard to get into in a timely matter, but during an extremely difficult time for my family they were kind, caring and attentive to my dogs needs and never showed how much stress they must be under and without them he wouldnt have survived. They kept us informed with daily calls and emails and asked us for permission with every step of his care. I have seen complaints about the costs associated with care here but they were upfront with us about potential cost of treatment and actually came in under estimate, and were more affordable than his regular vet while also being better prepared for the care he needed. I hope your pet never needs it but in an emergency I highly recommend Dove Lewis.

DoveLewis is basically a hospital full of superheroes (if superheroes were actually just incredibly competent staff). What they do is emotionally and physically taxing, they deal with people and pets on some of their worst days/nights and are still kind, professional, sensitive, and thorough. Pet emergencies are rarely inexpensive, but they are conscious and considerate of financial constraints. They take great care of the animals and set realistic and reasonable expectations with the humans.

My friend took their dog here because he ate a piece of towel, Dove Lewis left their dog in crate for 14 hours before they decided to give him an X-ray. They then proceeded to give the dog back to my friends saying he’ll pass it on his own, but their dog started slowly declining and became unresponsive, so they took him to two other vets, one said that their dog shouldn’t have been given back to them in the first place, they should’ve done immediate surgery, and then he passed on the operating table at another animal hospital. If you love your pets and want the best service for your babies, do NOT go here. Their dog was perfectly healthy beforehand and this could’ve easily been avoided if they actually took proper care for animals.

My rabbit’s nose was de-gloved by the fence, which I fixed buy adding small wooden boarder fence to the bottom. Dove Lewis was the only emergency doctors office that would work on rabbits, so we drove 1 hour to Portland. They were packed, but things were moving as fast as they could be. Patients being seen on severity of the problem with the pets. So some people were there for a long time. Others would be admitted straight away! A doctor came out and got our rabbit because he could imagine that his nose being ripped off probably hurt really bad. So they gave him pain medication and kept him overnight to wait for his turn in line. A doctor called me in the morning and described what the problem was and got to fixing it right away. She did a FANTASTIC JOB STITCHING his face back together!!! I can’t thank them enough! I would recommend Dove Lewis For taking exotic pets for their emergency needs! His fur is still growing back and I imagine it may not even be noticeable later on. Thank you Dove Lewis!

Severely understaffed and they don’t let you know this until you’re about 24 hours into them holding your pet. My dog came in after having a seizure and was held for 40 hours until he was able to be seen. He wasn’t fed, barely walked, this place is inhumane — they should not be accepting animals that they don’t have the personnel to support.GO ELSEWHERE. only at the final hour when my dog had been seen they told me about a new ER in Vancouver that’s far less busy.Unless your pet is near death, your family won’t be prioritized in any reasonable manner.

I brought my 11 week old kitten Luca at around 9 PM two nights ago for diarrhea. I felt very safe as they have a security guard on duty! It was a long wait before he could be triaged and have his vitals checked due to other severe cases arriving! After he was triaged, they offered a drop off or I could take him home and wait for a call back! I decided to take him home. We were able to find a vet and get a sooner appointment. they checked up on Luca and asked if I wanted to stay in the queue. The fact that I wasn’t turned down and they didn’t reject to seeing him and made the effort to check up on him made all the difference. A lot of the other places would even triage my baby and check that he was in stable condition till they could have him see a vet or I could find somewhere to get him a little sooner! This place is well worth the drive from where I live!

Update: My dog died. And I 100% blame Dove Lewis for his death. Had they actually examined my dog and given him the proper care he deserved, they would’ve been able to give him the surgery he NEEDED in time and it could’ve saved his life. By the time he went into surgery it was already too late and the infection/necrosis of his intestine caused sepsis and it is what killed him.We shared the original X-ray that Dove Lewis took with the veterinarian at Tanasbourne Emergency vet and he stated that Dove Lewis should have never discharged our dog based on the X-ray alone.DO NOT TAKE YOUR ANIMALS HERE!!!We had to bring our dog here because it was the only emergency hospital in town open that could treat our dog at 11 pm. We suspected he had an intestinal blockage that he wasn’t able to pass on his own. I understand that due to them being one of the only emergency animal hospitals open 24 hours that the wait times are fairly long. With that being said, I feel like the level of care my dog received, especially for the amount of money we paid was way less than satisfactory. We waited several hours to be seen only for them to then put our dog in a kennel for several more hours just to give him an x-ray and send him home without treating him. He was scheduled to have an X-ray taken at 9 am the next morning and they didn’t get his X-ray done until after 2 pm. After they did his X-ray they told us that it was a “partial blockage” and sent him home stating “he should be able to pass it on his own.” Not even 24 hours later he began to vomit dark brown fluid. We ended up taking him to Companion Pet Clinic in Gresham where he was rushed into emergency surgery. Not only were the vets at Dove Lewis negligent, but they charged us a ridiculous amount of money considering they didn’t even treat our dog! They also claim to offer financial assistance for low income families but good luck actually getting this supposed “financial assistance.” We told them we were low income and our pet insurance denied our claim. (Don’t ever use PAWP) They made us pay on a payment plan that they are supposedly “not supposed to offer.” Our dog could’ve died had we not taken him to a different clinic in time. They also didn’t give him ANY pain meds while he was in their care or to send him home with. The veterinarian at Companion Clinic said his stomach and intestines were severely inflamed and he was in a considerable amount of pain. Unless it’s a life or death emergency and there are no other vets open, avoid this place at all costs. We would much rather drive several hours than ever take our animals here again. If they’re too busy to give every pet the care they need, they shouldn’t be an emergency hospital. Side note: The vet assistant with light pink hair was very compassionate and sweet and she was the only pleasant encounter throughout the experience.

I had called them and talk to them about my cat that has a broken foot and needed to see if they had any kind of funding for that of people that dont have funds right now. They told me that I would have to fill out something and see if I qualify for payments, and if I dont qualify for payments, then they will take it from The Velvet fund and help my cat. Then they told me to just come on in and bring the cat in and they would help me. So I did that. When I got there I didnt qualify for the payment plan and they told me that because my cat had a broken foot, that it doesnt cover surgery for the Velvet fund. Then they tried to charge me $125 for the visit and tried to make me sign something that I would pay for it, and told me I was going to be $6,000 to fix a broken foot. So they wanted me to surrender my cat to the humane society. What I am going to do is!!!, Im going to find a place that will help my cat, and not try to take my cat away from me.

I arrived at around 630pm, my dog was having breathing issues. Starts with them misspelling my dogs name. I repeatedly tried to correct this and was ignored even when I actually wrote it down on large letters. I was told that my dog had pneumonia. That they wanted to keep him for 3 nights. The cost was completely beyond the normal cost, even for an emergency room visit. Basically they wanted more than I would make in a month. Even though I watched them give free services to several people. Most of witch were not in need of the help. When I would ask about my dog I was treated rudely and with a short attitude. My dog was released after 10 hours of waiting. So I was able to observe how many people were given free or preferential treatment.. its hard for me to understand the equality in treatment or infact why anyone would donate to j people or organizationsexist that only you treat the few

This morning my already ill cat decided that today was his last day with us. After attempting to call my vet who was unresponsive and not caring I turned to Google and found Dove Lewis. The care team was incredibly comforting and understanding of this hard time. Once I arrived they immediately came out to grab my poor kitty and have him checked by a doctor, then instructed me to come inside. The whole check in process was so fast and simple. My poor Charlie was struggling to breathe and they immediately gave me some time with him. The room was dim with lights from multiple small sources that brought some peace into the difficult situation. They administered oxygen to make my kitty more comfortable as well as wrapped him carefully up in a warm fuzzy blanket. It was truly heart warming to see how they treated my sweet baby with such care and love. Once it was time the process was quick and relaxing for everyone involved, and the doctor was very understanding and proactive about walking me through what she was doing. My vet quoted me for 300+ dollars to euthanize which is something I could not afford, whereas here my relief sky rocketed when they informed me that their were a donor funded program that could cover the cost. I couldn’t have imagined a better place or way to say goodbye to my baby boy. There are two others; Tanasbourne Emergency Veterinary Clinic, and Emergency Clinic of Tualatin.DoveLewis wanted to charge us 6,000 dollars for our babys surgery, Tanesbourne Emergency only charged us 1,620. DoveLewis has signs everywhere in their clinic stating that they are the ONLY 24 vet emergency clinic and when we left DoveLewis the receptionist told us that no one else would be able to do the surgery because they were the only emergency clinic and everyone is booked up. All lies.Pet owners, do not go to DoveLewis! Their clinic is rude, dirty, and, in my opinion, a scam. Tanasbourne was professional, thorough, and incredibly quicker. Thanks to them our sweet baby is home only a day after surgery and we dont have a vet bill hanging over our heads.I am posting this because I think its absolutely evil for a place that should be a refuge to abuse the love people have for their pets for monetary gain, especially in life or death situations. If I could, I would rate them -5.

Despite being determined 2 star urgent and quickly taken to the back area for pain medication, he wasnt seen by a vet for 23 HOURS AFTER HE WAS DETERMINED TO BE 2 STAR URGENT AND PUT ON PAIN MEDS. During this time I didnt receive any information except what I asked for after calling 1-3 hours and practically begging for some kind of update. The vet was unable to tell me the cause (or even probable cause!) of what led to him being hospitalized. I was then told he was ready for discharge and am still waiting... again, the only information I am receiving is when I call and ask for information. So far is has been 36 hours without any cause of his health problems, poor communication, bad wait times and just an overall bad experience. I dont blame it on the front desk staff or the vet who are probably trying their best but still pretty awful experience. GO TO A DIFFERENT 24 HOUR HOSPITAL.

I respect the volume of care DoveLewis provides. Unfortunately, I think the volume is hindering the ability to provide quality care. They failed to give my 2 year old cat the attention she needed, which led to her euthanasia. DoveLewis diagnosed and discharged her with suspected gastritis; in actuality, she was discharged with a ruptured stomach and peritonitis.Issues I had with the care received: wait times were too long, communication was poor, and a rushed discharge with improper diagnosis and treatment. The story:My cat was brought to DoveLewis in July 2021 after crying severely in pain and was luckily admitted. They gave her lots of drugs and ordered an x-ray which took 17 hours. Shortly thereafter, she was discharged with suspected gastritis. Relieved that DoveLewis did not find anything significant, I monitored my cat. After a few days of what seemed like modest improvement, I was able to get her into my vet who eventually performed exploratory surgery and found a ruptured stomach with peritonitis. My cat was euthanized because of her very grave prognosis. After my cat passed, I received the DoveLewis medical records from my vet and found that the radiologist’s interpretation, which was dated the day after my cat’s discharge, said to “consider peritonitis” (which is life threatening) and that an ultrasound may provide more information. I was never offered any other diagnostics, and I was never told about this radiologist report, which had critical life-saving information. I would’ve followed up for care immediately if this information was communicated. It’s disheartening to think my cat might’ve had a chance, because I would’ve followed up for care immediately if I’d known what the radiologist said. She needed prompt treatment, which she wasn’t given by DoveLewis.

It’s his turn to be seen.” Very convenient how quick I got a call after they get a bad review. Maybe that’s what people should do now a days to be seen for something a little more urgent.Absolutely ridiculous. I went in at around 7:30pm-7:45pm for my dog to get seen for his nail barely hanging on to his toe and bleeding profusely & we never got called. While we were patiently waiting for 4+ hours not ONCE did we get an update on when we would potentially be called on to be seen. I was also told by the veterinarian that my dog seemed “okay and stable” meanwhile he was in my arms bleeding all over himself AND me , hyperventilating, and whimpering. Finally ended up leaving at 1am due to the bleeding finally stopping on it’s own around midnight while we waited for such a long time & him seeming to be okay after 4+ hours. We had an unexpected emergency with our little pug, Millie. She was showing symptoms of an intestinal blockage which became progressively worse through the day on a Sunday. When we finally accepted that she needed to be seen we took her to the emergency vet hospital we have relied on in the past, but they were understaffed and just gave us phone numbers of other possible hospitals. Several others could not take us, either. When we explained the situation on the phone to DoveLewis they told us to get her right over and they would triage her within two hours. After the initial exam they agreed she needed to stay for further observation and testing, and sure enough a blockage showed up on ultrasound the next day and she had surgery that afternoon. The updates they gave me kept me informed and were greatly appreciated. Everyone I interacted with was calm, and treated both Millie and I with a sense of compassion and genuine care for Millies best outcome. She has made a wonderful recovery. I would highly recommend DoveLewis as your first call if you are ever in the situation we found ourselves in last Sunday.

I went there with my senior dog who was miserable and bleeding out of his nose. I knew what the vet would most likely tell me when I went in, that he most likely has cancer and treatment would be expensive. Ended up making the choice to put my dog down because I didn’t want to prolong his suffering. I have to say the vet who talked to me did really wonderful talking through all the options and what would be best for cooper. Gave me plenty of time to say goodbye and offered great options for burial. I don’t know who the vet was, but the lady who helped me with cooper really helped me at the beginning of the grieving process and i thank you very much!

I had to take in my dog with diabetic ketoacidosis and while this is expensive to treat, the Dove Lewis team was great. Intake was smooth and the initial information and communication was great. Because of the cost and long term effects, they talked honestly and realistically about the situation, which I appreciated. During the 4 days he was in, I wish I had gotten more communication on his status, but when they did call, they took the time to explain everything and answer all my questions. They are a very busy place working with many animals and situations so I think they did the best one can expect. My pup is home and doing great now!

My kitten was there pretty much all day but thats understandable considering they were slammed. Expect to be patient considering theyre very busy. If youre on a tight schedule still expect to wait a while while they get through everyone. Price wise it wasnt bad. We asked about payment options and we were told to start a savings account and that This isnt a bank. After waiting for 3 hours for our dog to be discharged we called the front desk and finally got ahold of someone at the front desk who did the discharge in 10 minutes. We were there for a total of 7 hours. We were also given our dog back, told we would be able to take her home soon, then they took her back and said that we could get her when the payment was complete. which again took 3 hours after already being there for four hours. Our vet was Peterson and he just kept talking about finances, even though we had enough for the visit. He said it could be $500 or over $1000. We could afford the 500 but We didnt have over 1000 just on hand. So it felt reasonable to ask about financing options and Peterson just wouldnt stop bringing it up.

My cat, Petunia, had not peed in over 24 hours, and that can be fatal for a cat. The first emergency vet clinic we went to was closed (8 minutes earlier) and refused to see a cat that might die at any minute. Very, very upsetting. So we drove another hour to Dove Lewis. Had to wait a couple hours but they got her in, checked her out, had her overnight, called us three times in the middle of the night (!) to let us know how she was doing, and sent her home with medications. She is now fine. As fine as a cat that is almost 24 can be. Thank you, Dove Lewis, for saving her and treating her so well.

My french bulldog has IBD. After she had a routine dental clean and tooth extraction and about 5 hours after she got home, she had a lot of bloody diarrhea and was vocalizing whenever I pet her or tried to pick her up. I called ahead of time and they said to bring her in. (Note: they outsource their calls to vet techs across the country, so most likely you are not talking to a vet tech at this location when they are assessing if it is an emergency or not.) When I got there, tensions were high - a lot of grumpy pet owners with long wait times and the staff (very few because they are understaffed) were obviously stressed and working hard to keep everyone happy and do their jobs. After about 5 hours, they were able to see my pup (aka check her vitals). The vet tech was incredible. Took the time to walk through my dogs medical history, take her vitals, and listen to my concerns. She was talking to my pup and soothing her. After assessing her condition, she was deemed stable and I was given two options - take her home or admit her - the wait time to *see* the doctor was anywhere between 4-12 hours, but it was hard to guess. I felt more comfortable bringing my stable pet home and calling her vet specialist in the morning to get more specialized care.I really appreciated the patience and kindness I received from the vet tech. After nearly 5 hours of seeing truly horrible behavior from pet owners to staff (I completely understand tensions and emotions are high), I think the grace and humility the administrative staff showed was incredible. I saw many pets come in struggling to breathe or other high risk conditions and they were taken back immediately. They seemed to be doing the best they can.Portland emergency vets (and regular vets) are SWAMPED. If you are a pet owner, you know this. I was told that this is the only 24 hr emergency vet that doesnt turn patients away - other emergency vets in the area, if they reach capacity, they have to turn *even the sickest pets* away at the door. I know the wait times are long, but there is nothing they can do. Based on my experience, I would definitely come back to DoveLewis in the future - but hopefully I dont have to :)

This is the worst veterinary hospital I have ever been to. We took my daughters snake to be seen, because he had a serious gash on him. They took the snake and said they would give it some pain meds and keep us posted. We waited outside for over five hours. We called and they said he was 13 in line after we had been there for three hours. My daughter went in an hour later to check on him. The receptionist told her that they were hoping that the evening crew that came in would be willing to look at the snake. None of the vets there then wanted to see it. Which is confusing cause they said they take snakes and reptiles that are injured. I went in again an hour later to see what the prognosis was. Well they told me he was 10th in line. They had more injured animals take precedence. Which was not true, we were outside and saw all the animals going in and out. All that were there after we were. They had no intention of treating our snake. If they had just said they didn’t want to treat the snake, we could have went somewhere else, but everyone else is closed by this time. They treat people with complete disrespect. And the wait times are absolutely ridiculous. If you have a snake or reptile to be treated DO NOT take them to the hospital. You will not get the care that is need.

I called ahead of time to ask for advice about my dog who had just eaten an unknown plant and was behaving strangely and experiencing numerous symptoms of poisoning. The woman told me to bring her in right away. I explained that my dog had severe fear aggression and has strong sedatives prescribed to her to take before going to the vet. The woman told me not to give them to her in case they needed to induce vomiting. When I got to DL, the wait was understandably a while given my dog was stable enough and less critical than some other cases coming in the door. The staff were friendly enough, not warm. I don’t really like that they have you create on online profile when you’re in the middle of a pet emergency as a way to “check in”....it was a bit of a hassle. My pup finally got taken back to get her vitals as part of their triage process. No one seemed to have gotten any info from the woman I’d talked to on the phone who said she’d relay that my dog was fear aggressive and needed a muzzle, etc. I reminded the tech who came to pull her back that she would be aggressive and frightened. They didn’t put a muzzle on her. They said it’d be 15 minutes and they’d be back out. When they came back out 1.5 hours later, my dog was totally traumatized and squealing, panting, pacing. Very stressed. With no emotion the tech said “She tried attacking two people so there’s nothing we could do. She would need to be sedated.” At that point I decided to leave because my dog seemed better enough to risk it and not deal with this place.... Had it been a more serious poisoning situation I don’t even want to think what could’ve happened. I found it totally ridiculous that she literally didn’t even do any vitals after i warned them many times of my dog’s fear aggression and was told NOT to give her her prescribed anxiety meds. Also... I would think a place like this would be used to handling severely distressed and sometimes aggressive animals. My dog ended up being okay, but I left with literally no additional info or even her vitals taken. She was uncomfortable all night. No one even gave me any advice, told me to monitor her, or let me know warning signs I should bring her back in. They didn’t even say “good luck” or “have a good night” or “follow up with your vet”- nothing.I also found this place uncomfortable to wait in. Conversations about really heavy and hard decisions related to pets were had very publicly. It felt a little upsetting and triggering to not have any privacy. Also, nearly everyone in the place was upset while I was there for 2.5 hours—I saw many many folks go up to complain that they’d been there all day 8 hours+ just waiting for their pet to be discharged, or has been waiting up to 2 days waiting for their pet to get an actual exam. That’s pretty ridiculous- at that rate you may as well just wait for your regular vet to re-open. It feels unfair to take on this many cases when you can’t even get close to seeing them all in a reasonably timely fashion. It seems much more ethical to refer elsewhere if it’s going to require a possibly critically sick pet to wait days to be seen??I do believe wholeheartedly that the staff care about animals and are often doing their best in a very stressful job, but gosh, either way- this experience has me not ever wanting to return.

She took him inside promptly and checked his vitals and re-emerged ten minutes or less later to give us tons of details and to inform us that our dog was stable and we could take him home and follow some care instructions and call our primary vet in the next day or we could wait through their emergency cases and have him seen there. They were really kind and apologetic for the wait but assured me he was being monitored while waiting, and they even gave him my sweatshirt to have while he was waiting. At 3 AM they approved me to leave as a drop off, but I wanted to wait to see what the Dr. said. Finally, he was seen by Dr. Bell around 5 AM. She was very thorough and spoke to me about the plan for over half an hour and answered every question I had. She even called three neurologists in the general area to discuss details of potentially getting an emergency MRI if things turned worse and sent over referrals to them all. She also found out when the neurologists would be on staff at each location. Thank you for being so thorough with my baby, even though he had to wait a while to be seen. It was a very busy day and my pet was not actually seen until the next day. They had many life threatening situations that kept bumping my dog out of her spot. They admitted her and Staff kept her pain under control and her stable overnight. She was taken good care of. If you take your pet here there may be a very long wait, however, they are the only place open to take pets even if extremely busy. They do not turn away pets from care. Also, they have affordable payment options for those who are looking for help paying medical costs. I’m grateful Dove is here for our pets. More people need to be aware of pets eating things.. weed, pills and plants also cheap toys to chew and then taking them into ER worried they ingested something. This bumps real injuries out of the way. Leaving pets hurt and waiting long periods of time. Treat your pets well and love them! If people were more aware of their pets behavior and what they leave laying around our wait time would have been much less.

I can not possibly say enough great things about Dove Lewis Emergency Animal Hospital! My almost 14 year old Toy Poodle, Teddy, was attacked at the dog park in Sandy. The other dog was a Husky, who had just come from the pound, and her incisor went through my babies abdomen to his organs. My daughter took us to Dove Lewis, where he was seen immediately by a wonderfully caring, understanding and supportive doctor. The doctor said Teddy could have surgery, which he may or may not have survived. But at almost 14, he had other medical issues. Eyesight and hearing going quickly, severe chronic pancreatitis with stage 3 renal failure. Had pain at times, being treated with medication, and wasn’t eating well. My regular Vet said he didn’t have long to live.As heartbreaking as it was, i decided the kindest option for him would be euthanasia, as the doctor told me he was in severe pain at that time. Yet when brought to me, he positively butt-wiggled and despite the cone, managed to kiss me all over my face before collapsing into my arms. The doctor gave my daughter and I time alone with Teddy, then he performed the euthanasia with me holding my fur baby in my arms. It went very well. My baby just went to sleep, and afterwards I held him for awhile. This happened on October 15/16, 2020 and was one of the most devastating events in my life. I still cry just looking at his picture. If fact, I’m sobbing as I type this. But for the care, kindness, skill, understanding and warm hearts of the doctor and rest of the staff, it would have been so much worse. The doctor also helped me decide, since I wanted to have Teddy cremated, what my options were. That was awesome, so I didn’t have to search through Google. I now have Teddy’s ashes at home, which brings some comfort.I definitely recommend Dove Lewis to care for your beloved pets. Very, very busy. They ask you to wait in your car in your specific parking spot (THE WHOLE TIME) for no apparent reason. You cannot go home, though they cannot give you an estimate of time (when I first called the gentleman estimated 12-14 hours). I am sure the quality of the veterinary care happening is decent but I dont know much about vet care so I cant comment on that; only on client communication and letting you know whats happening with your pet. And that is very, very bad. They did tell me on the phone that their customer service was suffering right now because of COVID complications, but it took an hour for them to be able to see my pet (totally fine since it was a walk-up) when they took him back to get his vitals and pre-vet doctor info, and told me theyd call me after they did the vitals to let me know the next step. They did not. Thus, I waited 3.5 hours in my car on a 90 degree day only to finally give them a call; at which point they told me oh yeah, you can go wait at home. I asked about the status of my pet and they told me he was stable, which he already was when I brought him in (glad he stayed stable...). He also had not had dinner and they wouldnt allow me to bring in food, because no food before examinations but they had no idea when that would be- he said 12-15 hours potentially. They ended up keeping him overnight, and it is 10am and I still have heard no word from them today. I understand they are busy, but boy is it frustrating. I will not be returning here, though I do have compassion for the probably overworked employees inside.
