Car had been reserved online, but still had to wait over 1hr 45min in line to get my vehicle. This is frustrating when you have a scheduled pick up time, I still had a 4 hour drive to try and make a wedding on time. Adding an additional 2 hours for a rental car is just not OK.While I was in line I had called customer service who assured me my vehicle would be reserved and guess what... I got to the counter finally and that wasnt the case. I payed additional money for a sports model and they were all out when I got to the counter.The employee at the counter had her mask under her chin, no gloves, and coughed on my drivers license and credit card.. I can provide photo evidence of this. Service was poor at best, at one point the agent started fighting with another agent about who gets priority on the walkie talkie (slightly embarrassing when there was a line of people behind me). When I communicated I did not want a large SUV for a single person trip of that distance I was told well if you want a car, thats what we have. I had to pay $80 per tank of gas at the station, there is a large difference between gas consumption on a Camaro vs. a large SUV.. Which the lady at the desk argued it was the same (as if I was born yesterday).Ive never used Avis before so this was a startling experience.

Awful job staffing. No other rental agency at PDX had a line - their processes are streamlined. AVIS desk workers are doing their best, but whatever manager did the scheduling must be horrible at their job. Line is 1+ hour, with only 2 employees working. This put my work in jeopardy. This is the last time our department goes through AVIS PDX, hope they enjoy the $$ because it’s the last they’ll get from us.

Picked up vehicle on 7/23/2021 went to stall N20To retrieve it found damages to vehicle ? Spoke with an attendant who walked by she said tell the parking attendant at the exit gate, after taking pictures of damage we proceeded to the exit of the building, we stopped and a man sitting in the booth on his cell phone wouldnt give us the time of day and just hand jesters us to move on thur ? I parked and said theres damages to this vehicle Im trying to report it, he slams the window closed and walks out still on his phone walks past me looks at the front of the vehicle and the I hand him my contract he writes on it initials it and says its fine and walks away back to his booth and closes the door? Craziness such poor customer service and lack of training, is this how customers should leave your business worried that vehicles may not be inspected correctly? And previous damages can be charged to the next driver who has coverage? Not right at all

Rented a compact from an in-town location, but the only car left was a huge nasty Chevy Malibu, brought it here and they were kind enough to swap it for a compact! So grateful!The team is understaffed but very kind.I wish Avis would stock the in-town locations with smaller cars since driving and parking are more difficult with an obese car. Dropping off the Malibu was like losing 1000 pounds of ugly flab! And such a waste of fuel! Also wish I didnt have to spend 2 hours of my Sunday to get the car I paid for.

Specifically: You are charging me for gas. I refilled the tank at a station less than a mile from the rental return. Offered a gas receipt. Attendant said I was ok. Refund the gas charges, please. If you do not, I intend to let the world know all about this all on social media. Is Avis going to steal from me? Hope not.

I agreed to rent an Avis compact car through Hotwire, which I have used with much success on numerous occasions, but when I got to the Avis counter I was told that for the price I agreed to, I had to take a 12 passenger van or pay an additional $100.00 per day to rent a compact car. Since I I was not accustomed to driving a large van I did not want to put myself or others on the road in jeopardy if I had an accident due to my inexperience in driving such a vehicle. Since I was on a business trip the additional $100/day expense was not allowed but I didnt feel like I had much choice. I believe that what I experienced was Avis taking advantage of travelers and an example of price gouging. I informed everyone that I met at my work meeting to be careful when booking a rental car from Avis, and I will be filing a complaint with Hotwire and the Consumer Protection - Oregon Department of Justice.

There was a long wait m, I waited 15-20 mins.. I got a $50 upgrade to a Toyota 4 runner which was nice.. Avis will try to upgrade you or get you to buy extra stuff which you can avoid..

We had a change in our flight due to the airline rescheduling and wanted to know if it was possible to change our rental reservation. We have called approximately 10 times over 48 hours and have never gotten through to anyone. The phone rings and then they hang up on us. Hopefully no one has issues before arrival because you have no chance of speaking to anyone.

Absolute worst service Ive ever experienced. Extremely rude and incompetent staff. Youre better off with any other rental car provider than Avis. Do not use this rental car service under any circumstances! I guarantee you will regret it.

Car was really nice and clean and very new. Just the vehicle we wanted. And reasonable price at the time I booked it. Also liked the terminal lot, instead of taking tram or bus to a rental car lot that takes lots of time and crowded buses and lifting luggage and redo on rental return. Airport terminal lot is so much more convenient.

The persons helping me were very nice and polite. However, it was a huge mess trying to get a car on my reservation! First, my reservation was with budget but its closed by the time I arrived and I was waiting for the shuttle for half an hour without realizing it. Then I was directed to the Avis counters, waited for 20min only to be told that I needed to go to the preferred counter for budget rental so I had to wait another 10min...there should be signs to direct people...

The cars tires were losing air the entire trip and it kept getting worse and worse. We actually went to a Tire Company in Ashland for help. On the way back to the airport we had to stop multiple times to put air in t he tires. It was a dangerous situation as we had to keep getting off the expressway and searching for gas stations that had air as we frantically watched the tire pressure drop from the warning at 25, to 14, 10 and 7 ! We called the Emergency 24 hr Roadside Assistance number and got nothing but pre-recorded music for 20 minutes. Obviously this does not exist, its only a gimmick to rent the car. We also called the Avis Airport number and no one answered.

With a reservation, check in was easy and I was in my car within minutes. Turning the car in was also a breeze. There seemed to be a lot of small charges added, maybe for taxes, that I wasnt expecting.Update - so what had happened was that they added a charge for gas, perhaps because I only had the car for a few hours and had driven a small number of miles. I recently rented from them again, also for just a handful of hours. This time I added their insurance. I made sure to show the clerk my gas receipt when I turned the vehicle in. Not only did they charge me $20 for gas again, but they added about $10 tax on the insurance. I had to sit on hold again to wait to speak to their customer service to have the gas charge reversed. Now I have to wait a week longer to make sure they reverse that charge on my credit card.

I live local and needed a truck to move things. Easy pickup, competitive rates and nice selection of new cars to pick from. What made my experience even better was the staff who was very helpful and kind the whole process. I forgot something in the truck after drop off and they helped find the truck in the big garage and got back the thing I left behind. They didn’t have to but went the extra mile to be helpful and I am super appreciative of it.

After having some bad experiences with Thrifty and Dollar rental car company, I decided it was time to try Avis and I was very pleased at the speed of which I was able to get my rental car and not have to endure 8 minutes of upselling of insurance, refueling, extra features, vehicle. I want the vehicle I rented and just please give me the keys which Avis gets. THANK YOU!!! The drop off was also much appreciated. Just leave the keys in the vehicle and not have to wait to get check in.

20 people in line and one worker, PATHETIC! I would highly encourage anyone to rent from another company, AVIS is behind the times on rapid checkout. They know how many people are renting so to not have staff is unacceptable. I will NEVER rent from you again even if I have to pay more. Worth it for convenience.

The truck I rented was AWFUL. It was dirty, shook like crazy when I applied the breaks, and looked like a trashed vehicle from a painting contractor with multiple colors of paint stained in the bed. The windshield was so dirty on the inside and out that it affected my driving vison. Honestly, it felt like you borrowed a friends car to rent to me. I am Hertz Gold and I wish I had rented with them.

Extremely short in staff. I recently had a horrendous rental experience. With a filthy car, and when complained the rep. the attitude was unbelievable. Finally, rep. gave me another car that had a cigarette smoke smell. Traveling with family for a vacation and having a bad start with rental doesn’t feel right. They seriously need a lot more staff in operation to run the show smoothly.

We have rented from Avis a few times before, both for the value and the terrific customer service. All times before we have received A+ service. This time. the service was A+ once again - from the agent that completed our rental to the agent that checked us back in. Unfortunately, the vehicle we rented was dirty. Clearly had not been cleaned/detailed before we checked it out. Side mirrors were filthy and we had to stop shortly after check-out to clean them so we could keep driving. The interior was dirty in spots and the mid-console was unusable due to some gunk (looked like dirt or something spilled). The front speakers kept cutting out as well which made the radio useless for our week-long trip. We had prepaid the gas fill-up charge and the agent that checked us in did waive that charge due to our concerns. Hence the A+ for service staying intact. A few points docked due to the expectation that Avis vehicles are always clean not being met in this instance.

Pick up and return was easy and hassle free. My rental was clean except for inside windows. Especially the front and back. So extremely filthy, the least amount of sun to hit them meant not being able to see out which also meant not able to drive in certain directions, at specific times of the day, or buy window cleaner as just a wet towel or whatever was not going to work, and either bring it back home with me or leave it.

I tried to leave my return open, wouldnt allow. They put Cody airport as my return. I could not get a return flight out of Cody. Tried renting another car at Cody, none available. Avis charged my over $800 to return next day to Bozeman Montana. Which is closer to Portland. I dont get these punishment rates. I thought you tried to help your customers.

I had a flat tire and called Avis Emergency Roadside Service and AAA at the same time, as I was going to a funeral. AAA came out, changed the tire, and left before Avis even answered the phone. It took 57 minutes before an Avis representative came on line. (I stayed on the phone to see how long it would take and to ask about the next step.) It took another 30 minutes for the advisor to find a place to exchange the car, which was back at the airport. When I went in, I was first assigned a car that the renter was still unloading. It had not been checked in or cleaned. I refused the car and was offered another. Though the next car had a lot of exterior dings, it was better than the original, which had candy in the trunk. The roadside service is a dangerous joke. I paid over $100/day and received terrible service. UPDATE: I noticed that AVIS gives the same response for every negative review, so I asked them what they found in their so-called investigation. Nothing -- as I suspected. The response simply thanked me for my input, let me know they are understaffed, and said are trying to do better.

The line was very long to pick up the car but Im assuming everybody got off the planes at the same time The lady was very quick and courteous at the counter gave me a car told me where it was it was there and I was happily down the road on my way The check-in was kind of weird nobody was around at all so you just park your car in line and leave I guess I couldnt find nobody to check in the car like most rental car agencies to walk around on the car but had to catch my flight so walk to the ticket counter Left the paperwork that they gave me and I still dont know if you received my car or not

Price gougers, when I just needed to change the drop off location, they think charging 20% of total rental is appropriate. When I called corporate 4 times, 3 times I spoke with three different gentlemen who all assured me my changes were made. No e-mail confirmation ever sent and they disconnect before you get a chance to actually get the confirmation. When I got to my drop off location they had no idea what I was talking about. The airline cancelled my flight home and I had to take the same flight a day earlier. When I returned my car, they said that I couldnt receive any money back because I pre-paid. Looks like I should have received my days worth back, but because I was diligent and pre-paid, I was actually punished. It isnt my fault that the airline changed my flight.

After returning my rental yesterday to PDX, I would have described the experience as exceptional. Reasonable wait, clean car, and quick and hassle-free return. Switching away from my go-to rental company, the military-friendly Enterprise, seemed to have been an acceptable decision. However, after receiving my emailed receipt, I was in shock.I went to google to read some reviews to see if anyone else had experienced the same sticker shock as I did and found, to your credit, that your team responds to nearly every review. To me, that means you care about your customer service. In some of the responses, I saw customers were directed to use this email to inquire further about their particular case. Well here is mine.I flew into PDX with my wife and two small children on our way to a wedding about 45 minutes outside of Portland. I reserved the rental about 6 months prior for a 12pm pick up and 12 pm drop off. Last Thursday (26AUG), our flight from LAX landed a few minutes early and without thinking, my family made our way down to Avis to pick up the vehicle. From the time stamp, it appears we were at the counter by 1040AM. After a quick check-in process, the attendant directed us to the next floor up and told us the 2 toddler seats we reserved would be dropped off by another attendant. About 30 minutes later, we had the car seats properly installed, kids buckled in, and luggage loaded. We scanned out of the lot thereafter.The car was clean and ran perfectly during our trip. No issues. We returned to PDX as expected at about 12pm after stopping to fill up the tank. The timestamp shows 1203PM. There was a slight delay in traffic as Avis was the last rental return company in the garage. The attendant scanned us in and that was that. Quick and easy.About 5 hours later, I was shocked to see I was being charged $233 more for the rental. Upon inspecting the receipt, I was charged an additional hour ($176) and an extra day for each of the two car seats I rented ($28). I was also surprised to see a fuel charge as I filled the car up before returning it, but that $5 was negligible for the exceptional service I had received up to this point.So thinking back, I guess my rental started right when I checked into the front counter, and not my actual requested time of 12pm. Typically, I havent had an issue picking a car up an hour or so early and surely didnt expect to be charged an astronomical amount for it.I called Avis already to get this taken care of however after 20minutes on the phone. I was told the best they can do is remove the car seat charges and half the hourly rate. I asked to speak with someone who could help more and was told this offer would be gone if I talked to a manager. Now I felt like I just had to pay the charge or risk getting nothing back. So I agreed. A refund is expected of about $130 but Im still losing $100 for an additional hour (again 30 minutes of which I spent waiting for and putting in car seats). Am I supposed to feel good after this experience with Avis?

Up charged to get a wrangler sweet.However, tire popped within 2 hours.Called emergency roadside was on hold for 30 mins and no one answered.Had to find random people to help with the jack that was rusted and not in working condition. Someone had to bring WD-40.Avis no answer, no return call.Upcharged on a bad car.Avis is terrible they are not reliable, the only thing you want went renting a car. Reliable.

Car was disgusting. Cigarette butts on the floor in the back seat, cigarette burns, car made weird noises, there was trash under the passenger seat. Its bad enough to get a used cigarette butt in normal times, but during the COVID pandemic it is even more jarring. Only reason we didnt return it on the spot was because it was late at night and we were completely wiped out from the travel, and we didnt notice all of the issues until the next morning under better lighting. Will probably stick to enterprise next time. Super super disappointed with the service.

Nobody explained the electronics in the car. I was unable to pair my phone because it was full of other phones. No directions on how to delete previous phones. I also asked for someone to look over the car with me prior to leaving the rental lot and was told it was already done. Plus the quote I was given prior to picking up the car was less than what I had to pay at pick up.

The representative at the Portland airport was great. The only down fall was that the key fob didnt work. Having a family of four on vacation and only one door that had a key hole... NOT convenient. Plus it was expensive. We were hiking everyday and there were no floor mats.

My reservation, 02418679us4 , was for $27.20 daily rate. Had to return car early and no one working at 330am. My email receipt shows they charged me $110 a day, a 400% markup. Called customer service three times and after 35 minutes holding they released the call without ever answering each time. Tried emailing customer service and clicking on send button produced no action. Then I was automatically logged out of Avis customer service website. Not going to give up on getting my money back.

The service was nice the vehicle was nice the payment method is not very desirable. Theres nothing in the writing that says that you will put a $200 hold on a vehicle show the credit card or debit card until the vehicle is inspected. What about using a $200 on vacation or something else if Im unable to use that amount of money because Avis decides that youre just going to put a charge on somebody and freeze it there until the look over of the vehicle which may take up to 2 days. I was just disappointed with this procedure at Avis and they dont show you in writing.

Car rentals at the airport are always hit or miss and then adding a pandemic on top of that is a recipe for some frustration. We rented though Avis about a week ago so when we landed we made our way over to the counter. We waited in line behind someone else for about 5 minutes but didn’t see any one at the counter the whole time. After deciding that no one was around we decided to go upstairs to the “Avis Preferred” kiosk where we saw the line. Maybe some better signage would be a good idea. The line was long and didn’t move all that fast. By the time we got up to the front they said our reservation had been cancelled though we never cancelled it. They said we could do a “walk up rate” which was some terrible amount, somewhere around $125/day…but why should I pay that when it was Avis that screwed up? So while standing there trying to figure it out we went online and just booked another for around $50/day. What a scam.We took the car and went about our way. Car was mostly clean on the inside and out and ran just fine.Avis as a company usually does a nice job but next time I am in the area I will not be going to their Avis at the airport.

Despite having called in advance and having numerous email confirmations, my reservation was not processed and waiting. This required a lengthy discussion with the counter person, who proceeded to process a contract with someone elses name and reservation on it. This required that I return to the facility several days later to sort out. I tried numerous times to reach a person on the phone at the Portland facility. No one ever answered the phone. i even emailed and called the Operations Manager Chan Mai. Who eventually responded, but did not seem at all concerned about the issues. Upon return of the vehicle, I was told that to get a reciept for a 3 week rental, I have to return to the counter. Currently I am trying to locate a phone mount left in the car. NO one answers at the Portland facility. All in all, Avis gets a 0 on a scale of 1-10.

They have low prices in comparison to major rentals and maybe a better fleet of cars (but they are not well maintained). There have been two nice agents that have helped me. There was one however, who gave me attitude when asking for something simple that I shouldn’t even have to argue about. These trying times are hard, no need to make it even more so. Anyway after spending so much money with Avis I cancelled my reservation and booked with another company same day just so I wouldn’t have to deal with the headache of poor customer service and fleet maintenance.

Reserved a full size car and they didnt have any so I got a truck. My 85 year old mother had a very difficult time getting in and out. The truck also had many dings and rubs and I pointed out most of them and took pictures with the check out lady. After leaving the dimly lit garage I noticed the tail light that had a crack and missing plastic. Im really going to be upset if they try to charge me for that.

I have been in contact with AVIS several times to push my charge through, and it still hasnt cleared. Since the charge is still showing as pending, I am unable to submit my expense report at work. This has financial implications on myself and my company. Please work on establishing a process to resolve issues like this more quickly in the future.

One of the worst services they have given me ... the assistant for seeing me as Latino, even asked me for my social security, she told me that I was not in the system, nowhere else have they asked me for my social security, just to be able to rent a car, after she has my drivers license, looking at my date of birth, she tells me I was 24 years old, they were already 26 seriously, if they dont like serving Hispanics, put up a sign saying we dont rent cars to Hispanics. . So not to waste time with Hispanics and their service assistants

At first the original location gave away our car(doubletree portland) but the airport location took care of us extremely well. Nancy and the others were awesome!!!Now some details. Knowing that there was an issue with car rentals I booked it months ago. A few days before leaving I called the rental location to verify pickup time and day. The manager verified all was good. When we landed, I tried to call but got no answer. We ubered to the Doubletree- office closed inspite of being told they were opened until 5. Just as we were getting ready to leave someone showed up and I explained that her manager told me we could pick up until 5. She explained that her manager was wrong and that she gave away my car. Suffice to say they failed terribly to rectify the situation. I had reserved a luxury car and late the next morning they offered a corolla. I had already reached out to the airport location and they were able to get me a Toyota Highlander but we lost more than a half a day and multiple costly uber rides. The Airport location folks were amazing and helped defray some of the cost. The incompetence at the Doubletree office was balanced out by the incredible competence at the airport.Thanks to the airport folks for saving our vacation. 5 stars to the airport, minus 1 star to the Doubletree portland location.

I rented a car for a day as way overpriced we usually get a seven passenger suv so was going to shop around as needed vehicle from the first to the 12th well as I checked in at Portland international airport the lady behind the counter gave me a better deal as she said my quote was astronomical I said absolutely was robbed and I let her know that I was trying to get a suv for rest of my stay to see about better deals she told me to just keep car until the end of my vacation which was july 12th as it would be impossible to get anything cause other car rental companies were booked out I took advice and a day after I got home my account was charged 800 more than what I was quoted which still wasn’t a great deal as ive rented enterprise and sixth and way better rates as I know holidays are more for demand but what you guys charged is highway robbery especially as i was quoted a smaller amount would like my money back at least 800 as i was lied to not good service
