Airport Van Rental Portland Oregon was excellent. Rented a mini van for a month and think the total was approximately $1200. Called their office and shuttle picked us up at hotel and took us to AVR office to pick up van. Courteous staff. Accommodating...folded rear seats down for us as we didnt need them. Van was new and clean. Return options included dropping during business hours, after business hours by leaving key in drop box, OR leave in economy parking lot at airport. $20 charge for leaving at airport plus parking fees. We used the airport parking drop off as we had large packages to get to the airport very early. We will use them again.

Scary! The van they rented us had front end alignment problems. The inside of each of the front tires were worn down to the thread. Didnt notice until we were 1 day into our trip. We had to put the spare on the worse one and then limp the rest of our trip with a bad tire. Called AVR many times to ask for support but never got a response. Nothing via email or phone or text. Imagine putting a van full of people at risk like that.... very irresponsible and unprofessional. Maybe thats why the service rep said I cant seem to rent you any of our vans. The system says they all need service. Scary.

Rented two 15-seater vans for a day. They were both super clean, and had really low mileage (~330 and ~920 miles; so, spanking new). They both rode super smooth (almost like a car). Checkout and return were easy (we used our own car to get to the location).

My experience at this location was actually great. Rented a van to drive to Chicago. Van was almost brand new. Ended up paying exactly what they said when I picked it up. While I was picking up the van there were three separate customers that got worked up to the point of yelling at the poor women working the desk, all because a perfectly reasonable mix up. Don’t be scared by the bad reviews, people are just big babies when they’re traveling.

I reserved a mini van 30 days before our trip. 24 hours before my trip I get a call (voicemail) that they have to cancel my booking due to overbooking! I call back and no answer so I leave a voicemail. I get a call back in 20 minutes or so and the reason is the cars were not in the right condition?! so first overbooking then not in the right condition or are damaged.... or they sold the cars at a higher price?! LOL!I had begun my trip and now have to stress and make changes and book with another rental company. They dont offer to find another car for me or find any solution but - just deal with it! we cant do anything at this point. no compensation at all or form of comfort- I told them they lost a customer for sure. I told them I would right a bad review- its a tough business, I understand but if you treat your customer this way, they will not give you good feedback and you will lose more customers. hopefully a learning lesson for all.

I never write reviews, however, our experience with this company requires some attention.When we made our reservation 1 month ago, my husband typed in the time our flight arrived (6 pm) and all of our itinerary information. He was allowed to make this reservation, and was notified yesterday that we needed to pick our rental van by 12 pm. Clearly, this did not work as our flight was scheduled to arrive at 6 pm. He called immediately once home from work, and was told that he could not pick up the van any other time as AVR Van Rental is only open from 0800-2pm. He was told that there is no 24-hr cancellation policy, no credit for a rental later on, but that we would/will flat out lose our $200 for this reservation. He asked to speak with a supervisor, and was told that someone could get back to him within 48 hours (no guarantee) which will be after our arrival to Portland, OR.This seems dishonest and shady business practice. We have never dealt with a car rental company that does not allow 24-hr cancellation policy or any other form of customer support. I would highly recommend selecting a more reliable and supportive car rental company even if it means paying a little extra money. We still have to rent a car for our trip home to see family and will now be out $400.

Unfortunately, we will never rent from AVR again. We reserved and paid for a 15 passenger van. We had youth to travel up to a weekend event. When we got there, they said they called to tell us they switched our reservation to a 12 passenger. We did not receive this phone call as I would have needed to make alternate arrangements. The situation caused us a tremendous difficulty.After finding out about the rental being switched, we found out that the insurance we paid for was not going to cover the van so the non-profit youth group had to pay an additional $38/day. As we had a time crunch, we were stuck. The companys representative did not discount us until I insisted that we pay for a 12 van fee instead of a 15 and be reimbursed from the amount we paid. Not only was this disappointing in customer service, it caused a financial hardship for my youth group (we had to take another car with us) . So, we had to work around this due to their neglect of proper scheduling. So, I cant trust them with our future needs due to 1. They change paid reservations without speaking to you and 2. Not providing up front information about the insurance needed for passenger vans versus regular vans. So, if you choose this company, be aware of the possibility of these things can happen to you.

Please note that this location is open from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. There is no return shuttle service after 2 p.m., so plan accordingly. That being said, I booked a minivan for $25 a day, unlimited mileage. (Rates vary depending on the time of year.) I got a very clean Dodge Caravan which was a pleasure to drive and got excellent gas mileage. Rachel and the manager, Patrick, went above and beyond to provide outstanding customer service and went out of their way to address and resolve an issue that I called about. Patrick even called me back to make sure that everything had worked out. I was very impressed and will book with them every time that I fly into PDX.

Chicago Ohare location. Schiller Park: Very slow service. Having only one person in line before me, it took me over an hour to start paperwork and after approximately 1.5h total to pick up a van. All the vans offered were severely damaged, looked very old, with dents, lost paint, something Ive never seen before when renting... and looked like I wouldnt make it too far in any of them. After a long nerve-racking speculations, I was offered an upgrade, but only at additional cost!I rent pretty frequently, but this is the first time I experience a situation like this. Returning process was fast and acceptable.

Ive rented from this location about 5 times. The people at AVR are professional and friendly! The vans are always in excellent condition and I always get exactly what I expect. I plan to continue using them for a very long time!

This location deserves 0 stars. Worst rental experience of my life! The lady manager at this location was the worst I’ve ever dealt with. The van was a joke as well. And if you have any issues there is absolutely nothing you can do because they don’t answer their phone and even if you leave your name and number multiple times they won’t call you back! Their shuttle service was “out of order “ but they have many unused vans sitting around and won’t help you out. DO NOT RENT HERE! You’ll regret it!

The worst rental experience of my life. All 4 tires were severely worn and one went flat after driving for an hour. I called the representative at the time of the incident and was instructed to do what you gotta do and to return the van the following day when my reservation concludes. I have since called several times to provide feedback and their customer service line has yet to answer the phone or call back. I would caution using this service as it seems maintenance is not a top priority. especially tire maintenance in a city with regular heavy rainfall. If yo must use this service check every detail of the vehicle because it is evident that they do not.

Convenient that they drop you at airport for departure. Got a new & clean minivan for our trip. Rachel and Patrick were able to resolve a problem we had with the van while on the coast, friendly to deal with. Would rent from them again.

They overbooked the van we wanted, but upgraded us to a 15 passenger for no extra charge. This worked out as we were up in Oregon for a family event and had a lot of people flying in and out that weekend. They either transport you themselves to the airport or have an uber that they pay for pick you up. I docked them 1 star as they did overbook us and if I was not a 15 passenger expert I may have been upset. I will use them again. The Employees are friendly and there to help.

Be aware to get ripped off by AVR at portland location.One serious complain to make is that the avr location closes at “2 PM” charging $20 or $30 for an after hour drop off.This is basically to rip off almost everyone who tries to return cars to this location.I would understand if a drop off after 8 pm is considered as an after hour drop off under the policy.Even Government offices close at 4~5 pm and it is common that most commercial offices open until at lease 6 pm. Here we are talking about a car rental car company located by an airport closes at 2 pm and charge an extra fee for a drop off.Please tell me if you encounter this situation and would not get frustrated for getting ripped off due to this ridiculous office hour.

Extremely disapointed with this company- I recomend using ANY other rental company. 3 DAYS before we arrived at our destination- I received a call from AVR informing me that they were closing the rental location that I had made the reservation at and they would not be honorning my reservation. Their solution was to have me go 200 miles out of my way- after flying to a different city to get a van from them. I had this reservation for over 5 months- and to have AVR cancel it 3 days prior to our arrival is extremely poor service. No wonder they have to close one of their locations!

Set a reservation a couple weeks before 8/27/18 to pick up a van rental for a family vacation to be told the day before the trip that they didnt have any vans available for me or have any other way to accommodate me. Horrible service. I suggest paying the extra bucks to go somewhere else unless youre willing to take the risk. Never going back to this place.

Thank you AVR,(see side notes at bottom of review for more details)This was our first time renting from AVR, and it will not be our last. From start to finish this was a great experience. We needed to rent a 12 Passenger van for our large group. We could not find a van that would accommodate our group size anywhere for our dates. After doing some searching I came across AVR, and I am so glad I did. From the moment I called to make our reservation the The AVR crew made our rental expireace a smooth one. The AVR Employees are so helpful, and answered all of my questions. To be completely honest on our way to pick up our van I was a little nervous, and could not help to worry about the van we would be getting, as the price of our van rental was significantly less than the others companies I had called. However when we arrived my worries were put to rest. They had all the nice clean vans all lined up in rows in front of the building. During our check-out the line, and wait time was a little long, however this did not bother me one bit. There was one person at the dest, and she took her time with every customer making sure that everyone received her full attention, and never one did I see her become frustrated, or rush a customer. To me customer is huge and can make or brake so to speak my decision to give a company my business. When it was our turn we received the same quality service, and it was hugely appreciated. Our van was clean, and made for a smooth, comfortable ride , even with 8 kids! My husband was so pleased with the GREAT gas milage. We did have an oil change light come on. I called AVR, and problem solved! Returning the van was Just as easy. A quick look over of the van and we were on our way. The staff was phonemail!! Not only did AVR save our family Vacation, they also saved us A LOT OF MONEY! Thank you AVR staff for making this a great renting experience. We will be seeing you soon!Side notes:AVR was about $300-500 cheaper than other rental companies I call for similar vehicleThey will have you do a look ever of the rental, and document any pre-existing damage of the vehicle.I was able to call my insurance and arranged my own insurance coverage, that WAS approved for a passenger van of the size. I gave my dates and was able to get great coverage for my dates, and save more money.With AVR, you do have the option to rent with a Debit Card if you are local, as well as credit. You will need to bring in 2 pieces of mail to confirm address, With ID. This was not offered at other rental companies that I called.We received 5,600 + free miles being local renters, .25 cents per mile after.Our 12 passenger van did have 2 charger ports, and 1 wall plug outlet at front of our van.

The idea of company specializing in van rental at airports is a great one. Vans are not the mainstay of the major car rental companies, so their availability is limited and the prices often are astronomical. So we were excited when we discovered AVR for our trip to Portland with our daughter, her husband, and their one year old baby.The issues we ran into included:1. No shuttle from the airport, which apparently had been the case for some months. AVR told us to take Uber and they would reimburse us. This required finding an Uber XL, taking much longer than a typical shuttle wait.2. Our reserved vehicle wasnt ready, and we were offered a very different vehicle instead. It was acceptable to us so we took it.3. The vehicle they gave us had been in a collision, and although the damages were relatively minor (dented door, etc) the damages had already rusted, meaning that AVR continued to use it for some time after the accident. So we drove around in a vehicle looking a bit like it was from Rent-a-Wreck.4. The AVR computer system had multiple issues that delayed obtaining our rental for about 1 1/2 hours after arriving at the rental office. First, it locked out the assigned vehicle, and there was no manual way for the agent to rent the vehicle. She was on hold with IT tech support for perhaps 20 minutes trying to clear the lock.Then their computer system refused to process our American Express credit card payment, as well as the other customer who was also in the office. More calls to IT tech support another 20-30 plus minutes. We were then told that the computer problems was because VR was performing system maintenance (around 11 AM on a weekday??!! Really? ) Eventually the problems were cleared, they took our credit card, and we were on our way.5. Unlike most rental agencies, which merely place a hold for expected charges, AVR charges the full rental plus $200 up front, and then refunds the unused portion when you turn the vehicle in.6. AVRs collision damage waiver, insurance, additional driver, and refueling policies are much more extreme and expensive than most other rental agencies.Two other parties rented vehicles while we were in the office, and each also had multiple issues that took much time to resolve.Other than the rent process issues, the vehicle we rented, a Dodge Durango with about 40,000 miles, performed well. The two star rating largely reflects the rental process.AVR is a much smaller operation than the major rental companies, so perhaps some of the issue arose from that. They will need a better rental process to be a reliable rental agency.

In my experience, when you go with the lesser known rental car company with inexpensive prices, you may be setting yourself up for a big headache in the long haul. That was definitely not the case with AVR. My wife and I needed a van to pick up in San Diego and drive to Portland one way, and we went with AVR without knowing much about the company.We received a newer model GMC Savana van for a very reasonable daily rate. The staff was very courteous and helpful in every way, and they had very admirable customer service skills. The manager whom I dealt with, Patrick, was especially accommodating, and although I had braced myself for leaving this experience with a bad taste in my mouth, when it was over I found the opposite to be true. I even managed to get a mirror clipped off of the van in San Francisco, but it the damage was completely covered by their daily collision insurance plan. I finalized my reservation with this company feeling 100% satisfied, and the money was well spent. I would recommend AVR to anyone who might need a van for a tour, trip, or any type of getaway.

If youre booking here and trying to save a few bucks, just spend the extra cash on a rental car ANYWHERE else but here. Upon my arrival at PDX, I went to the car rental area in the airport but no booth. So I call and was told to wait for a Lyft and they asked me to LIE TO THE LYFT DRIVER, SAYING THAT MY NAME WAS BILL OR SOMETHING!!! Really?? Shame on you. Apparently they ran out of shuttle buses to the airport (as others on here have also written) but it was super awkward and it made me feel very uncomfortable as I dont like to practice dishonesty in any form. Not a good experience.Upon arriving there, the woman at the front desk over-explained everything to the point of confusion. She was all worried and anxious that I didnt answer their earlier calls for my reservation... thats what a reservation IS FOR and I got a busy life, you know? Such a stupid rule as the girl behind the counter was like we didnt know if you were coming... and I thought, well duh, I booked the freakin thing WEEKS ago!!I was charged an exorbitant rate plus fees for returning the car ONLY a few hours later than expected AFTER they were already closed. I guess they have ZERO value for return customers. Then they called and asked why I was late and the lady was rude and she was acting like I personally offended her cause I was a few hours late! She seemed happy to punish me with their stupid late return fees and yet again, I was made me feel very uncomfortable and this time angry for her spiteful tone.AVOID AT ALL COSTS and go to a more reputable rental place as this joint will only add an extra hour you dont have to waste your time...Its rare and takes a lot for me to write these bad reviews as I try to give folks a chance but I was so disappointed with my experience here. They just want a quick buck from faceless customers they only see as a giant wallet with legs walking in the door. GO ANYWHERE ELSE!!

One person working the desk. Took an hour to get the car. Also they never answered the phone so i had to take a lyft over there. They gave me 1/2 a tank of gas on the rental to compensate but it was still a pain.
