Even though my under the hood knowledge is limited the Ken Van Damme community respected my questions and request for information. The turn around on work is quick.

I have all ways got my GMC Yukon return to me from Ken Van Dammes Auto in much better running order than when I dropped it off. Also, they do what I want done, if more is required, I am advised and offered a professional advise on waiting to repair additional items, if I am not prepared to have additional service done at that time. I brought a Nissan NV2500 in for pre-purchase inspection. Dan called me with the inspection results and noted some rust was indicated on the undercarriage. This concern me, so Dan went out and got under the vehicle and took six pictures and emailed them to me. He said it was just surface rust. Dan has always gone above and beyond anytime I brought a vehicle. You have serviced my work vans over the year. Dan will give you an honest answer, so I value his input. He was most helpful with this inspection and I decided to purchase the vehicle.

Our first experience with Van Dammes Automotive on NE Sandy Blvd. was just routine maintenance. This went very smoothly and seemed to be a reasonable price for the service done.Our second experience was when our car just died. It was towed, again to the Sandy Blvd. shop where it was declared DOA (to no ones surprise). The folks at Van Dammes were great in helping us get the vehicle donated to the appropriate charity.Our most recent experience was when we were shopping for a replacement car. We took the car to Van Dammes and they did a very through check on it to make sure there were no major issues. They found some minor issues which we took care of after getting the new car and weve been very happy with the car and the kind service weve gotten from Van Dammes throughout this entire process.

I have been having my vehicles serviced here for over 15 years now. They are very dependable and trustworthy. I have never felt like they were trying to do work that didn’t need to be done. Very knowledgeable mechanics and employees. The shop is always clean and organized. They are great about diagnosing problems and giving you options.

Trustworthy, knowledgeable, quick dependable service -- I had just been told by Toyota dealership that my truck needed about $7000 of work done on it to stop the vibration. Went to Ken Van Dammes Automotive without any appointment -- they took a look at my truck -- within 10 minutes, two mechanics came to me smiling -- they took me out into the shop and showed me the cause of the vibration -- the alternator -- They installed a new alternator and the vibration was gone. I was smiling now as the cost was less than $200 and they checked out the Toyota truck and said everything else was in GREAT shape... Only place I will take my Toyota Truck for Reasonable , Dependable, & Trustworthy Service with smiles.

Ive had really great experiences with Ken Van Dammes. Before taking my vehicle there I did a little bit of research, but I admit I wanted to use them because they are within walking distance of my home. Ive found them to be exceptionally responsive, and in the rare instance where some work didnt take (some gasket work), they stood behind their warranty and did a redo of the work, no fuss no muss. I feel I can trust their suggested repairs, without feeling they are trying to get me to do work I dont need. They are very professional and they always follow up when they say they will. Im a fan!

Ken, Dan, and the team at Van Damme automotive are reliable and fair. They are not the cheapest game in town but they also wont overcharge you and will give you an honest assessment. These guys are flat out THE best and most honest mechanics I have come across. I left Portland for 3 years before coming back and among the reasons to be happy about my return was getting my truck back in good hands with Van Damme’s. Ken Van Dammes Automotive is the honest mechanic Ive always wanted to find! Another mechanic lied to me, trying to get me to pay $3,000 for a repair I dont need. Kens told me the truth, taught me how to monitor the issue myself, and didnt charge me for it, saying When we have work to do on your car, well charge you then. They also did a great job on a few actual repairs and charged a reasonable price.

As far as Im concerned they are one of the best in town, theyve never let me down regardless of the problem or type of car I have taken to them. They truly live up to their warranty.

I used Ken Van Dammes Automotive Service from the time Ken took over the garage when the previous owner retired. I always found them to be friendly, reliable and honest. Had I not relocated out of the state four years ago, I would most likely still be depending on this company.

As a woman, I often have a fear of walking into an auto shop and having the people there throw a bunch of unneeded repairs my way and essentially screw me over. I did not feel that way at Kens even slightly. Will went over my car and checked out all the issues I knew it had, and found a couple more I didnt know were there. He and Ken both went over all the necessary parts and repairs, broke it all down for me, and it all came out to cost under what I had expected. They didnt fix anything without running it by me, and they treated me with incredible respect. I shall be returning to them most definitely!

Van broke down on a Saturday afternoon. Towed here. Had planned to leave Sunday morning. They fixed it in 15 minutes. No charge. Dont think it gets better than that! Thanks Van Damme!

I went to start my car and it was completely dead. I had a friend jump my battery and I drove straight over to Ken Van Dammes. I didnt know them at all, but I hoped they would help. I just needed to have a diagnostic run to see if I had a battery problem or alternator or something else. They pulled my car right in and ran the tests. They set me at rest letting me know that my car was fine. No questions asked and no charge. I will definitely be going to them for service.

I didn’t consider my experience bad until I had time and got other quotes. First they fixed the problem that I went there for and I picked up the vehicle off hours. The battery was barely able to start the car. No big deal, but when the mechanic told me that I was way overdue for transmission fluid change that he said was $300 and that I needed front brakes that is “hard to get to on this model” for $900.I had it all done at another shop within a mile for less than $400. Seems fishy

Last Wednesday the buttery of my car was dead, I went to this shop to have my buttery and alternator checked, they gave me a report and said clearly there is no problem with the alternator and the buttery is a new one and its very good, the buttery is dead maybe because customer left something on. I trust in them and drove to Salem on Saturday, I only turned off the car for 10 mins and the buttery dead again, I send my car to another shop last night, the mechanic told me the buttery is a four year old buttery, its already broken, they told me its easy to see the buttery was made in 2010. Ken van Dammes charged me 50 dollars for labor and gave me a wrong report.

First time customer with a good experience. I made the appointment online and received a timely reply. The garage was clean and the staff was polite and knowledgable. My car had over-heated and they found a cracked radiator which had to be replaced. Repaired and off on the same day. Happy customer.

Over the years I have used various shops for routine maintenance and more complex repairs. However, I wish I would have started using Van Dammes years ago. I have been using them for at least the last 12 years and my brother has been using them even longer. This is the place to go for small or big problems; they are honest and use the latest equipment. They will tell you what needs to be done but it is up to you to make the decision, no high pressure.Very competitive in pricing for all parts and services.Great facility!!!!

Ken Van Dammes Automotive always has taken care of all my trucks, and personal vehicles. Anytime I’m in a jam they get me out of it right away. They do a great job.

Service was easy to schedule. They listened to my description of my issues, made prompt reasonably affordable repairs. After a few days the problem returned. They found a part they had used in the repair had a flaw. They replaced it for free. Ive had no problems since and my car runs quieter than when new.

I have been coming here for years, and they have done an incredible job of not only servicing my car, but helping me make budgeting decisions on what work needs to be done right away, and what work can wait a bit, using sound judgement for each situation. They have bent over backwards to fit me in when Ive had a car repair emergency. I highly recommend Ken Van Dammes!

Kens has been servicing my 93 Montero for almost 20 years. Their pricing is always competitive and I have never had to take the car back to have something redone. There is no up-selling, and they go out of their way to get parts that can be a little hard to find sometimes.

800-900$ for a 107$ radiator replacement . LoL it aint no lambo dude. Another shop quoted $375 parts and labor included.

Most honest repair place I have ever taken my cars to get fixed. Mid-range prices but great service.

I am a car novice and recently bought a used Nissan sedan that turned out to be a bit of a lemon off of craigslist. Took it to Kens for a 2nd opinion on repair estimate, and I can say that I was treated very respectfully and learned much more about what it needed and why. Will very graciously offered to show me the places that would need repair or replacement and why to make sure I understood the situation, and Dan didnt charge me a dime for the service, since itd already been diagnosed elsewhere.Overall I got the sense that I was talking to people who cared about doing a good job on your car (vs. just taking your money) and making sure the customer knows whats being done to their vehicle. Very forthright and understanding.

If I could give 0 stars I would. They were very courteous when they kept my car for 2 days longer than they estimated and they were very courteous when they charged me twice as much as they said they would and after that I found a 2 oil leak under my vehicle shortly after they worked on it and they proceeded to argue with me about it rather than look at the car.

Kens is the only shop I trust. So many shops prey on womens fears of being stranded to sell unneeded repairs. (My wife was convinced by a Jiffy Lube years ago to buy $8/quart oil for my 180k mile Toyota because the engine was old.) Kens approach is just the opposite - they work very hard to earn womens trust and they treat women as intelligent consumers. You can shop for cheap repairs but that can lead to LOTS of trouble.

They provide superior and honest service. Im now a loyal customer!

Always honest, took good care of my car.

If I could give KVDs 2.5 stars, I would - three is a bit too much while two is not enough.I have used this shop many times in the past due to their proximity to my house, and for the quick, easy, and small things (oil changes, new batteries) they are fine ... however, for larger repairs I feel like they exaggerate the estimate of labor hours in an effort to make more money.I took my sedan there when the car was inexplicably not running - they did the one hour diagnostic and told me they couldnt figure out what the problem was and that they would need to take more time (2-3 more hours at $106/hr) to get to the bottom of it ... I declined and brought the car home and did some troubleshooting on the web - turns out, a fuse was blown. Cost to replace said fuse, $2.00.Final straw - recently took my station wagon there and was told they needed to replace the fuel pump (which will take about 3 hours) and the total estimate (labor and parts) was $1035. Nope. Through word of mouth, I was able to find a shop that came highly recommended and that quoted 1.5 hours and a total of $585 (labor and parts).The three favorable experiences at KVDs that I have had:1. They once told me I needed a part replaced to correct a problem, once they got the new part in they realized that wasnt the fix the car needed and removed the part without a charge.2. The battery on my sedan was completely dead and they did a full-charge to the battery for free. Of course, the charge wasnt successful and I needed a new battery (which I purchased from and had installed by them) but the gesture was still appreciated.3. When I had the station wagon towed to the shop a few minutes after closing, one of the mechanics (younger, glasses) was so pleasant and very graciously brought my two small children cups of cold water (it was 93 degrees out) and let the tow truck driver use the bathroom. I didnt get the young mans name but he was very kind.Unfortunately, because of the aforementioned issues (among others - how wish the two items mentioned were the only negative experiences Id had) I cannot recommend their shop if you need car repairs.

I went to a Jiffy Lube and had found out that there was a crack in my radiator of a car that I had just bought Jiffy Lube had told me to go to Ken Van Damme And I am so glad that they did they were extremely nice very professional and very punctual they handled every problem I had with Extremely well customer service and they were very prompt I had called a few other places and they were all more expensive and they were all very rude I would recommend this shop to anyone and I will be coming back in the future if I have any other problems thank you for such good service That was affordable and thank you so much for working with my warranty company I dont know what I would have done without your guys professionalism on my side

Unfriendly service. I have about 15 work vehicles I need serviced, and the guy I spoke to on the phone claimed he wasnt the guy I spoke to before who said they would be able to assist me. So since it wasnt him he was pretty set on not being able to help. You Ken Van Dammes unfortunately just lost a lot of potential business from me and my company.
