I couldn’t be more grateful for the angels that work here, all the staff is amazing and they care so much for your pet. I went in thinking that my baby didn’t have anything major but the efficiency and good heart of the people here was on point! She had a bad infection in her uterus that required surgery. Basically they saved my fur baby’s life and I am so happy they were there for me all the time. She wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for them. Thank you again for the great service and for all the love my baby had. I definitely recommend this clinic!!

The Staff at this vet are truly like no other. They were incredibly patient, caring, and understanding when we came in yesterday looking into options for our sweet baby girl. They explained things in a way we could understand and they were honest in all directions. Everything was quick and professional despite having other urgent care patients to take care of.They were kind and helpful 3 years ago when we brought her in and they were no different yesterday. They gave us the time we needed to say goodbye to our beloved Willow-Bee...While it hurts beyond belief and coping has been horrid, the staff at this vet made it comforting to know we made the right choice for our beautiful baby girl.Thank you so very much to all staff who helped. We will be a returning patient if we ever need an ER in the future.

This was our first time having to visit and all the staff was awesome! Our 6 month old kitten was sick and the assistant and the doctor were so gentle and informative! They explained everything that they were going to do to make Smokey better and what the cost would be. I love that they send all the info to your regular veterinarian too! I also called before we drove over since we live 20 minutes away and the women that answered the phone was so pleasant(sorry, I forgot her name) but she was the assistant to the doctor also! Thank you all very much! As I type this Smokey is so much better this morning! Running around, eating and drinking good!

This place is absolutely AMAZING! Our small dog was in our back yard playing with our other dog and when she came in she was hold on paw completely contracted up to her body. She was crying non stop licking her back foot. We thought maybe they played too ruff and she got hurt (being she’s 1/2 the size of her brother). We googled Emergency Vet and found this place, we called first and WOW the woman named Brandy on the phone was so sweet and so helpful. Of course we were worried about the cost and we’re thinking of waiting until morning and taking her to our vet being it wasn’t life threatening. She answered all of our questions- and we had many and offered some advice. Assured us they wouldn’t provide a service without before letting us know the price and agreeing it. We couldn’t take our little fur baby being in pain all so we decided to bring her in. At least do the exam and find out what’s wrong. They took her back right away and came back saying they had found a bee stinger in that foot she was holding up! We were so relieved it wasn’t something serious. They then asked if they could clip her nails and trim back they hair around her eyes (she’s due for her grooming). Not long later she came out good as new, and better than when we brought her! They also discounted the exam price! The people that work here have such great hearts and I am so happy we chose to take our fur baby to them! Thank you Brandy and staff!❤️Bella says “Thank you(Ruff ruff)”If your pet has an emergency or something happens and you need a vet during off hours we can’t recommend this place more! You will be so happy with the decision. 5 star service & 5 star staff!

Although no one ever wants to end up at the emergency clinic, I had a great experience here today! I had to bring my vomiting cat, Sheldon, in for treatment on a Saturday afternoon. Dr. Murray was friendly, knowledgeable, and took excellent care of him today. The other staff members were all very professional and obvious animal-lovers. Yes, prices were a bit higher than what you would pay at your regular veterinarian, but thats to be expected at an emergency facility. Im glad to know that we have such a great veterinary emergency facility right here in town!

My kitty Bjorn suddenly became wobbly and could not stand. By the time we made the 40 minute trip to the emergency clinic, he was presenting with additional neurological symptoms. The doctor saw him immediately, got him on an IV, and assessed the problem. He spent the night at the clinic and the following morning came home in hopes that he would eat. (He did, thankfully). My sweet little one was given immediate, intensive care and I was given excellent information, instructions for at-home care, and understanding of my emotions. I am so very grateful for the Emergency Veterinary Clinic and the wonderful doctors and staff there. SO glad you are there for us in our need.

This was the absolute worst experience I’ve ever had at vets office. Waited for almost 5 hours and still no one came in to see me and my sick pup. When asked how much longer was just told “I don’t know. We had critical cases come in.” I’m a very understanding person and don’t mind waiting but the staff was just so cold and acted like I was more of a nuisance than actually wanting to help. Literally in tears because I just want to make sure my pup is ok. Going to try another vet and hopefully have a better experience.

We brought our furbaby in unresponsive and before taking our baby the front desk lady was more concerned that we were not wearing face masks. Im sorry that we werent but our cat was dying and she was more worried about facecoverings when she was wearing one herself. Then she acted so bothered giving a mask to my boyfriend as he was in shock that this was all happening. And then kept telling him he needs to wear one before the doctor comes in. Now for the vet tech that came in... Thank you for being so caring and compassionate about animals you were the only one who showed any type of feelings. But you need a new front desk lady, if you work in a vet office you need to care more about animals than a face covering covering that we were not thinking of at that time our cat wasnt breathing. I was in the area during Memorial Day weekend and needed some emergency care for our girl that had multiple lacerations after an altercation with her housemate. From arrival to pick-up, the care provided by Dr. Gerber and his staff was exceptional. We received a treatment plan and estimate, which the nurse went over with us in great detail and answered any questions we had. We were so happy with their care and the work they did on our little girl’s wounds. She is healing like a champ and I am thankful every day that VEC was there when we needed them.

My mom brought her sick/dying dog to this vet early Wednesday morning and told the person on the phone what medical conditions the dog had. The response she got was “well we “could” look at her but you know at close in a few hours right?” With a didn’t want to be bothered and nonchalant attitude!I don’t care if you were closing in 10 minutes! There was a fur mom and patient that needed help and the person acted like he was more concerned with going home than helping. At the very least my mom just wanted her dog looked at and to be reassured that being put down was the right call! Instead that sweet dog suffered until she passed away a few hours later that same morning!

I could not have been more disappointed in the care, or lack there of, my poor little senior poodle received. I brought him in because he was lethargic and not eating. I agreed to all blood tests and pancreatitis test. It only showed a high white blood count. They told me they recommended xrays $650 and an anti nausea shot. I agreed to the shot but really couldn’t add that much to my bill which was over $400 already. They said they felt there was nothing else to do then. No antibiotics no meds of any kind. I have brought dogs in to my vet many times for upset stomachs and was never refused treatment because of xrays. There are meds he could have been given. It was clear from the bloodwork, They Did, he was not in kidney or liver failure so to refuse to help him at all was mind boggling. They were beyond heartless. It is all about the dollars, period. It wasn’t like I hadn’t shelled out any money at all at that point. I believe most positive reviews are from people with unlimited funds. Good for them but for the average person this is not the place to go. Very disappointing. And for the record I have been in dog rescue for over 30 yrs and owned dogs my whole life. I am not a newbie. This is however my first negative review for a vet....ever. In the future will take the drive to Sarasota.

The nurse came out and took their dog in right away while our dog waiting in tremendous amount of pain. I came in with my pet and I was greeted by Jessica. She was extremely helpful and pleasant. I thought my dog had a fever and she took me right into a room and took Peanuts temp. Thankfully he had a normal temp which was 101.4, and Jessica explained to me that dogs have a higher temp then humans and this could possibly be the cause of why I thought he felt hot to the touch. She offered for me to see the doctor, however I felt it was unnecessary as he was doing fine otherwise. She told me how to take a temp at home and if it got above 102.3 to call us. My vet, Peace River, in Punta Gorda, has an emergency location to call when they are not open. I trust them and therefore, I trust their referral. I have an affable, social and cooperative eight year old Rat Terrier. He was viciously attacked at 2:30 in the afternoon on New Years Eve. Not only does my own vet recommend VETERINARY EMERGENCY CLINIC but so did the four kind dog-owners who sprang into service when all I could do was compress my dogs wound to try and stave his blood loss. They usually open at 5 - when most vet offices close. But on holidays they open earlier. Because. Shortened vet office hours. Thanks be! The front desk person had the calmest demeanor and understood, clearly, the panic a pet person feels when their four-legged is injured. They were kind, as quick as they could be with injuries coming in from several counties and communicated at every point in the process. I am so grateful to live within quick proximity to such a kind and efficient and affordable emergency service. I hope I never need to use them again - and if I do, I am glad they are there. Ill be at the ready for some other pet person should they require emergency services - You know Ill be recommending Veterinary Emergency Clinic in Port Charlotte. Without reservation.

I definitely recommend this clinic. This is the 2nd time we have used them, the first time they saved one of our dogs (I think I wrote a review on that before.) Unfortunately this time was not such a happy ending. We had to put our dog Charlie down on 5/14/19. I stayed home with our daughter while my husband was with Charlie. He said everyone was very nice. He said they explained to him that they could run a million tests and do any necessary surgery to find out what was causing Charlie so much pain, but that at 16 years old, there was a good chance there was either nothing that could be done, or that he could possibly not survive surgery. I know there are vets and offices out there that would push for us to do the tests and let us spend thousands of dollars, as opposed to letting us do what we feel is right. They allowed my husband to hold Charlie as he passed. It took 6 days for us to get his ashes, which seems about right. They also gave us a mold of his paw print, and my husband paid extra to have an ink-print done as well.I will always recommend this clinic. Thank you all.

I have nothing but the deepest respect and appreciation for the caregivers at Emergency Vet Clinic Port Charlotte. I brought my dog in around 4:30am on Sun. 7/19/2020, having called ahead first. The attendant on the phone took all of my/my pet’s info and told us to call when we were outside (we couldn’t go in due to COVID, and the safety precautions — like wearing masks — were appreciated). Nicole, the vet tech, immediately took my pup back to Dr. Rubin for examination. Within 20-25 minutes, they provided me with an update and asked my permission to run further diagnostics (my partner and I initially thought my dog had a UTI). With my approval, they ran further tests and found that my pup had multiple bladder stones with one blocking her urethra. Dr. Rubin got on the phone with me and laid out all of my options clearly. Ultimately, we felt the best choice for my pup would be emergency bladder stone removal surgery. I explained my concerns around heavy sedation/pain meds, and Dr. Rubin and Nicole were communicative and understanding with me throughout the entire process. When Nicole came out for me to sign the paperwork, she brought Marley (my dog) out so we could love on her before surgery. After that, they took her in for surgery and kept me informed every step of the way. Dr. Rubin called me post-op with a thorough explanation of how the procedure went and shared that Marley was in recovery. It was the end of Dr. Rubin’s shift, so the daytime care team was taking over, and she told me I could call at any time for an update and that she’d be back on shift that evening. Jamie and Alana (daytime care team) were incredibly responsive to any of my questions, and let me bring Marley food/take her for a walk (because she was a bit shy for the vets/vet techs). After that, Jamie told us we would be getting a call later that evening as to whether we could bring Marley home that night. Around 9:30pm, we received a call that our pup was doing well in recovery and we could bring her home. After speaking with Dr. Rubin on the phone and going over Marley’s care plan, we met Nicole outside with Marley and she thoroughly explained all of her prescriptions and next steps. She said we could call at any time with questions. Overall, I was so impressed by the entire team at the clinic, and am so grateful for the special care Dr. Rubin, Nicole, Jamie, and Alana gave to my pup, especially because we couldn’t be inside with her due to COVID. I’ve seen a lot of reviews here complaining about cost, but the fact is, emergency care IS expensive — just like if you were to take a human to the ER vs. their primary care physician. I never once had a billing issue, and actually received a small refund at the end (they provide estimates on the higher end so you’re not taken by surprise post-treatment). While I hope I never need to make another emergency veterinary visit again, I would feel deep comfort putting my Marley in the care of this team again.

Unprofessional and quite disorganized staff. Dr. Ruben never returned to the room to speak to us about the results of the tests, but rather sent a tech on her 1st night in. The tech was the only one that was kind enough to help or try her best to do her job. Even then, the tech was not given the whole story about all of the tests/ xrays. I wanted clarification, I was told the xrays were being sent to a specialist radiologist, and I was free to wait an hour in the waiting area. That hour came and went. Meanwhile, another lady waited forever to have someone bring her bill, and expressed similar frustration. Eventually the new tech returned, and I requested a total of 3 different times within 45 more minutes that I wished to pay my bill. She went to get someone who could work the computer, but no one ever came. When I complained about the doctor never returning & only getting half the information, the tech went and told the doctor I was upset. Finally, she opened a door to explain there was nothing wrong with our dog. After all, we could hear her revisit other pet owners; but for whatever reason, she dropped the ball with us. We concluded what felt like a cursory, forced revisit from Dr. Ruben. After hearing her comments, we told her if there was nothing further we were still awaiting this elusive bill. Why didn’t she return in a timely fashion and simply tell us? We wasted our time, and eventually got tired of waiting for the bill. We made the decision to leave at 1:30 am, with every intention of calling in the morning to pay our bill. We walked out, the door bell chimed, I hung around to see if anyone would hear it & we could finally pay. No one. We got into the car, took our time, because I felt terrible about walking out despite the poor care and service, and then drove to the door. Waited a few minutes, still no one came. I was furious over the whole experience. Then I received a message while driving home that I left without paying my bill, and that the doctor hadn’t completed her exam, and meds were suggested. This was totally opposite to what had transpired and the conversation that was had with the doctor. I took our other dog there 2 months prior, thought they were disorganized, but figured it was an off night. Apparently not. My dog limped out of the office. We were told there wasn’t anything wrong. The entire experience was awful. It was absolutely ridiculous, and barring a life or death situation, I will never return. However, the chief issue here is the complete lack of professionalism from every level of staff, excepting the new technician trying her best. It’s a shame Charlotte County only has one 24 hr. Clinic. I will gladly drive to Sarasota or Lee County in the future.Update: I received a nasty call regarding the bill, and the office manager claimed my wait time according to the camera was 2 minutes. She then completely insulted me, saying that my complaints were solely based upon the cost and no other factors. I asked if she read my review or was informed of the whole situation, to which she snidely said another patron responded to my review defending the clinic. Which means nothing to me. Everyone is entitled to his/her opinion. She was exceedingly rude.

Horrible, rude , NON helpful receptionist!!! Asked a few questions and she couldn’t answer anything at all sounded like a broken record “I’m not sure ma’am you would need to bring her in” over and over again, and couldn’t address a single one of my concerns. Turns out that the tiny shred of info that I did receive from her was completely wrong ! They really just push you to come in because they wanna make that phone call turn into a 100 dollar appointment! Good thing I didn’t take her advice 🤣

Very nice people and they are professional. But, sadly they are way, way overpriced. I just paid over $250 to euthanize my cat. I should have shopped around but it was an emergency so I was not in a position to.

The vet was great and handled everything. The woman who sits at the front desk could learn some compassion. Very rude. Just what you dont want or need in your time of sorrow.

Craig McShaffry, DVM, SAVED MY PRECIOUS PUPS LIFE LAST NIGHT!!! My toy poodle was in distress!! Because of her barking and getting too excited over the door ringing for Halloween, she could not breathe!! Her tongue started turning blue and we jumped in the car and rushed her to the Emergency Veterinary Hospital. With their quick response from staff they put her in oxygen tank. They wasted no time. Dr. McShaffry kept us informed about her breathing, gave her all necessary meds and kept her overnight. I cannot thank these Angels enough for being there in a dire emergency and saving my pups life. They never took advantage of any unnecessary tests or fees like some other emergency room vets I’ve been to in the past. I would never bring any of my beloved pets anywhere else ever. The care and compassion they showed to me while I was hysterical and so scared at my time of need will never be forgotten. I highly recommend this veterinary emergency clinic to everyone who needs help immediately!!! Thank you Dr. McShaffry and your wonderful staff for going above and beyond to save my pup.

HORRIFIC EXPERIENCE.....evil staff who ONLY cares about money. Ill NEVER forget the passing of our cat and NEVER let these EVIL ppl get away with their behavior. Agonizing emergency weekend when I had no choice to put my beloved rescue cat down. ALL they cared about was money and one staff member literally SCREAMED at me if I cared about my cat she wouldnt be in bad shape like she is because I was having difficulty coming up with the euthanasia money. It brought me to my knees. Ive been through some trauma in my life but this is up there on one of the WORST EXPERIENCES EVER. . BTW my poor cat was a feral and SHAME on them for the way they treated me. They do NOT belong in business. I wish someone warned me about them before making a heart wrenching day BEYOND HORRIFIC. STAY AWAY. ROTTEN RIP OFF CLINIC WITH ZERO COMPASSION.

We had an emergency with our 16-year old Shetland Sheepdog, Seamus on July 4th at 11:30PM and were beyond anxious. We took him up to the Veterinary Emergency Clinic knowing it was a dire situation. They treated us and our dog with the upmost compassion. I would recommend them highly.

My wife and I brought are Shi Tzu in at 0215 hrs on 12/16/2018 as Precious had what appeared to be a stroke. She was convulsing and shaking at home,by the time we got to these animal abusers she had stopped. I explained what had transpired and told that my thoughts of a stroke were probably right on as I was a retired medical provider for humans. They paid no attention to what I said and in reality, did not even do an emergency medical examination. Instead they asked for payment of 300 dollars and stated there would additional costs for what ever they planed to do never explaining what this would beAt this time I explained to them I was a disable-retired U.S. Marine and got paid on the 1st of the month they refused to take a check [I figured I could post date it] and then refused to do anything to find out what was wrong and refused treat her if there was.Where I come from which is the State of Vermont this would be considered animal cruelty and charges would be brought against them criminally, and you can bet I intend to bring this to the attention of the regional office of the Florida SPCAOn 12/17!18 , woman called from the emergency clinic called and wanted to speak with me and I told her to go straight to hell and NOT ONCE did she ask about my dog. I would really think about ever going to this place. They take advantage of you and your time of need would they ever do this to a human being ask yourself your question that would they do it to a human they’re supposed to be veterinarians for compassionate not in this case people do yourself a favor go up to Sarasota I know it’s a little further 20 miles up but it’s worth it .Raymond R Gadreault
