This place is AWESOME. So thankful places like this still exist to keep the good old stuff still working. Had my 70s turntable fully reconditioned, they did an amazing job and the price was insanely reasonable. Ended up purchasing a vintage radio while I was there as well. Will recommend this place to everyone!

A true gem in the city for audiophiles. The owner has repaired turntables and only analog stereo receivers for me quickly and at a fair price. I’ve also bought quality vintage equipment from him that he’s rehabbed. Honestly, I don’t know what I would do when I have TT or stereo issues without this place.

The Turn Table Doctor - Vince - is a true gem of Pittsburgh. I can’t think of anyone more knowledgeable about turntables, radios, any electronics. Be patient; it may take a little time for him to fix your turntable, radio, stereo. That’s because he does it right. As if it were his own. Also, Galaxie is a place to find truly original reconditioned turntables and other stereo items from the past.

There is no better place in all of greater Pittsburgh with which to trust your vintage hi-fi equipment. Unlike many shops that will only tackle receivers, this one will take on phonographs and the old-school console stereos. In my case, it was $50 for the estimate. More than fair given that the unit I brought in was 42 years old. What makes this place a real gem though is that he sells refurbished vintage hi-fi equipment. Receivers, speakers, radios, amplifiers, a whole lot of phonographs and sometimes reel-to-reel equipment. The owner and woman who works there is extremely nice and smart. And, just across the hall, is Pittsburghs best record shop. Id trust Galaxie with all my vintage equipment.

A competitor had my receiver for over 2 months and never cracked it open. I finally got it back unrepaired, and took it to Galaxie. Vince was able to diagnose and repair the problem in less than 24 hours and charged a very reasonable fee. I regret not taking my equipment to Galaxie first. Great service, great communication, and very reasonable price. I will be bringing all of my stereo equipment to Galaxie for repairs and servicing.

I walked in looking for a restored 70s Pioneer and they had exactly what I was looking for. Vince was an incredibly nice guy and was happy to teach me about some things I had questions about. We talked old tube amps and he even gave me some advice for setting everything up. Fantastic experience and I will be more than happy to bring all my components that are in need of service to this business. Their bench fees are more than reasonable and they are very knowledgeable.

This place is such a great resource for Pittsburgh record enthusiasts. I have never known much about turntables or electronics and every time I come in here I’m treated incredibly well, and the cost of everything is so affordable. They are unpretentious, patient while answering all of my questions, excellent in customer service And clearly passionate about what they do. Couldn’t recommend this place more highly.

Galaxie is an excellent place to do business. Knowledgeable, competent, reasonable. Over the years, Vince has repaired/refurbished my speakers, receivers, turntables, old radios, metal detector, even battery operated toy trains. The guy is a master craftsman. I recommend him most highly to anyone needing work done. I have never been disappointed with anything I have taken there. I would not hesitate to entrust him with any of my prized possessions. I am happy and thankful that I found him.

I had a 30 year old turntable that wasnt working and a 15 year old CD carousel player that was stuck. I dropped both off around noon one day and got a call the following afternoon that both were ready to be picked up - at a VERY reasonable price! When I went to pick them up I took in my Zenith console radio circa 1939 that had a sound problem. A day later that too was fixed. Vince fully checked out all aspects of the radio; made some fixes, and had it ready to go at an again very reasonable price!

Im not very handy so when I tried to properly balance my turntable tone arm after purchasing a new cartridge, I couldnt do it. One unnamed location in the North Hills, made my feel stupid when I called so I refused to go there. I had heard about Galaxie from friends and made the trip to Squirrel Hill. Vince balanced the tone arm was very engaging and respectful. No charge. Wow! My new go to place for repairs to my vintage audio equipment.

This man single handedly resurrected my technic turntables from the dead after a flood. They sound better than they did when they were new back in the 80s. Fully calibrated and completely rewired. The guy is a miracle worker for vintage electronics. Most electronics today are cheaper to replace than they are to repair. Electronic repair is an art and a science, and I dont know who will fix all the cool tube radios and amps when this guys gone. So go now while you can! He can break prices down for you too whether you want your repair just like new or only in working condition. If it can be done. He can do it all for a fair price.

Vince is a true master of all things Hi-Fi equipment. He brought my prized vintage components back to life to once again spin my vinyl and fill our home with rich sounds from Mose Allison to Led Zeppelin. I have bought components from him including his store brand speakers (with Paradigm innards!) at excellent prices. Hes an honest, hard-working mensch who will offer great products, service, and knowledge. Vince is a genuine Pittsburgh treasure.

He fixed 2 pairs of vintage advents (Loudspeakers & 4002s), a Turntable, 3 receivers (Realistic STA-78, Sherwood s-8800, and Sony str-5800sd) and is now fixing the famous BIC T-4m 2 speed cassette deck. They did an amazing job refurbishing a vintage Lenco turntable (from around 1980). In its day it was an amazing turntable. Over the years it had developed hums and noise from the platter - to the point where I wasnt using it. I took it home and plugged it in and it is quiet, and the sound is as good (and probably better) than when I took it out of its original packing!I took the turntable home, plugged it in, and placed a recording of a solo Bach Partita for Harpsichord on the table. I chose it because it will expose any extra sound issues as well or better than anything. To make it a tougher test, this record (published by the Smithsonian) has probably only been played a couple of times since purchasing it in the mid-70s. Any extra sound could not be blamed on the record. There was NO EXTRA SOUNDS coming from the turntable. No hums. No buzzes. Minimum turntable rumble. I listened to a recording that sounded exactly as it should have sounded. I can only surmise that this outcome is due to the workmanship of the folks at Galaxy. They also have a selection of used equipment (turntables, receivers, speakers, amps, pre-amps, etc.) at reasonable prices. Next time that I need to replace some components, you can bet that I will be returning. They are personable. They are knowledgeable. They got my repair done in less than a week. The price was right. You can tell that they love what they do. They provide service with a smile. What more can a consumer ask for?Other than pay them for the work that they did (which I did) I need to thank them. Hopefully this review will do that.
