Recently been renovated and its looking really nice. Can get busy at around 6pm on weekdays. I have had to wait for machines during busy times. However at the weekend have no issues with this. You are left to it which is good (unless you are seeking more support). Getting into the gym you go up stairs and then have to put a pin into these compact doors that then open. So if you have claustrophobia be aware of this. There isnt free parking which is a shame but they offer a discount if you park in a certain car park. What I love most about this gym is that it is full of very different people. There is always good vibes and people of all fitness level can go to the gym and do whatever they need, without that intimation feeling that I have experienced at other gyms. Its good value and is open 24/7. I think its worth it for the money for sure.

PFP is awesome. If you have aesthetic goals they will certainly help you meet them, but that isnt really the focus of most of the people that work out here. Overall this is a very body-positive space. Youre much more likely to get feedback on your form or progress in fitness than on your appearance. People of all shapes and sizes work out here and everyone is super welcoming! I have made a lot of progress in my lifts and found a great community to boot.

Great spot! Friendly and supportive. Expert trainers, best equipment in town, good classes in a fun environment. I am grateful to have found this intelligent and diverse crew. I’ve been going a little over a year and it’s been amazing to see the changes in my family’s health over the months. All ages, sizes, and kinds of people. Bonuses: Free parking and occasional social events.

When I got out of college I was really starting to get into olympic weightlifting. I was trying to self teach myself, but I just kept coming up short. While I continued to struggle, one of my buddies told me about PFP, and Tom Duer. I went there for a barbell assessment, and from that second on I knew this was the gym for me. I signed up on the spot and it has been nothing but positive results and good vibes ever since. Tom, and the rest of his trainers are excellent coaches who work very well with the clients and write programs that are designed for YOU. Not the cookie cutter average you see in most gyms. They also provide a great array of group classes that would put most commercial gym classes to shame. The atmosphere at the gym is encouraging, upbeat, and positive.. ALWAYS. The coaches, athletes, and clients there always try to pull the most out of you so that you can achieve the best version of yourself. It feels like we’re all one big family every time I’m there. Ever since I’ve signed up there, my clean and jerk has increased by 20kg (and climbing), my snatch by 30kg (and climbing), and my back and front squat by almost 50kg. And thanks to these guys, this December I’ll be competing in my first weightlifting competition! Its really amazing what a good atmosphere and even better coaches can do for you. I HIGHLY recommend this gym to any aspiring Olympic weightlifter, bodybuilder, or even someone who just wants to get in shape, move better, and build a healthier self inside and out. I promise you won’t be disappointed!

I have gone to PFP since they opened. Previously I was a member at LAF in Bakery Square, and PFP was a welcome change from the big corporate gym atmosphere. The personal interaction between the staff and clients makes for a much more welcoming environment. Tom and Brian have brought in a fantastic staff and created a great atmosphere to workout, whether it is through personal training or group fitness. There is lots of parking available and the location is great. Stop in today to check out PFP!

I really think the classes motivate me to exercise. I find it much easier to commit a particular hour of my day to exercise than forcing myself to fit it in at the end of the day. Also, the instructors, to a person, are very knowledge and ensure I push myself each sesion, so I know Ill be getting a good workout each time.

Ive been doing 1:1 personal training with Sandor at PFP for almost two years. He is probably the best personal trainer I have ever had, and Ive tried a lot. He is a stickler for good form, understands physiology really well, and thoroughly explains how to go through a movement and what it should be working. Hes also good about knowing your personality and what you need from him as a trainer. He has a passion for fitness thats infectious, and truly cares about his clients. I cant recommend him highly enough!!

I visited them last December when travelling for work. I do olympic weightlifting and I know how rare it is to find a gym as well equipped as PFP. Great location, great hours, friendly people. I think the only thing missing would be a nice set of jerk blocks but otherwise it was a very good experience

I have been working out at the Pittsburgh Fitness Project since August 2018. It is a great gym with abundant space, especially for those who prefer to exercise with free weights and using their body weight.Additionally, the gym offers various classes with trainers, who are also available for private training, from workouts concentrating on different parts of the body to yoga sessions. The trainers are professional and extremely knowledgeable in their field. My trainer, Sándor, has helped me lose 24 pounds so far, while concurrently build muscle and physically become more toned. The Pittsburgh Fitness Project is also in a convenient location with available parking, which is a big plus in Pittsburgh.

My experience with PFP has been incredibly positive. Ive found the environment, the classes, and my training sessions with Tony to be very supportive but also challenging in a really productive way. When I first started coming to PFP I was motivated to improve my overall health but was clueless on how to do it. I needed guidance, expertise, and encouragement to try things outside my comfort zone. Tony and the PFP staff have provided that and more.My expectations have been met and exceeded, joining PFP and training with Tony has made an enormous difference and improvement in my life.

PFP is the perfect embodiment of personalized wellness. It is a place where you can work on fitness goals that are important to you, not the person next to you. I have been coming to PFP for over three years, and this is the first place where I have felt challenged and seen results — challenged in ways like learning how to kettlebell swing or lift a barbell and results in actual muscle definition! The moment you walk through the doors, you feel welcomed, inspired, and ready to go. It is a fun and encouraging environment. Members want everyone to succeed, not just trainers. And if you are unsure about a movement, a trainer is there to show you how to do it, without any sort of shame or embarrassment attached. It doesnt matter your fitness level; PFP is the place to find your best potential, and oh yeah, have fun along the way. I LOVE IT!

I have taken classes and also personal training sessions here for a little over a year. I started out pretty weak and broken down both mentally and physically. I never felt one minute of judgement at any time. Just lots of support and respect for my commitment to improve my health. There are people from all walks of life at every point in their fitness journey. Older (like me), younger, skinny, overweight, and everyone I’ve encountered (staff and gym members alike) have been nothing but helpful and kind.Staff is super knowledgeable, warm and friendly. If you are just starting out and haven’t been active for awhile, I recommend investing in some personal training sessions to see where you really are and Just get some good , solid direction to avoid injury. It’s not cheap, but worth every penny. As you improve, you can transition over to the classes and not feel out of place.

I avoided this place for a long time because of the price tag. Its definitely more expensive than your typical chain gyms, but Im so happy I finally made the switch. Ive been with Tom for several years now as hes gone from strength to strength. His philosophy of training and wellness and vision for PFP are spot-on, as is the culture hes managed to grow there. They train people of all sizes and fitness levels, right up to Rather Serious weightlifters, and nobody is ever made to feel unwelcome or intimidated. Many big companies have bold claims about what they provide in terms of inclusive atmosphere, but fall far short. PFP actually provides.Every trainer really knows their stuff and how to get you to achieve what you didnt think you could. My wife and I are very happy members.

Ive attended Pittsburgh Fitness Project classes over the last 2 years. They will modify the workout to any fitness level need. My personal favorites are PFP Strong and Power Hour. In Nov 2017 I started personal training sessions with Tonya 2x week. My goal was to focus on building strength. She is great at explaining the areas to focus on, working multiple muscles through a single movement, and we have yet to repeat the same exercises. She keeps it fun by incorporating ropes, kettle bells, sled push, boxes, TRX, ski urg, barbell, calisthenics, and stretching into sessions. Ive learned so much from her and it was the best decision to begin investing in my health. All the instructors are helpful and motivating. Any doubts Ive had about my capabilities have been tested, guided through coaching, and proved my self doubt wrong. Everyone belongs here when you walk through the doors. They truly care and the atmosphere is welcoming.

Im a known gym hopper. Im the type who gets excited about a specific training style or class - and then gets completely burnt out on it. I love training with Jake at PFP because he encourages all of my fitness interests. No session is like the last. Some days I squat heavy, others are more HIIT based, and other times we lean into my gymnast background and work on handstands and intricate balances. I just celebrated my two year anniversary and I plan on celebrating many more. And the coolest part is, Im comfortable with every single trainer, not just Jake. I love working out in a place that is actually judgement free and encourages me to live my best life. PFP truly is my #fitfam!

I took a Wine and Squat event class here. This convinced me to purchase a groupon for 10 classes for around $40 which is a great deal. I like groupon for trying new places. Also, Im already a member at other studios and just wanted a place to fill in the occasional gap where I needed a workout. The gym is bright and clean. There are lockers for your stuff. Multiple single bathrooms that are large suitable for changing (not stalls, a room with a toilet and sink). Water fountains and bottled water available. Bring your own towel if youre a sweater.I mostly took the power hour classes which were all great. I particularly enjoyed Jillians classes. I did take Zumba strong once. I probably would have taken it again, but I was the only class attendee when I went and it felt awkward having everyone else in the gym able to watch. Not sure if this was a fluke or if this class isnt well attended. If youre looking for a place to workout where the workouts are constantly changing and challenging, I would recommend this place. The only reason I stopped going is because it was similar to a place that I already attend, and I just feel a stronger bond to my original gym. Also, I decided to add spinning and barre to my week rather than more of the same stuff.Everyone in class, including the instructors, was friendly and found humor when things got hard-- which I find important. They do barbell training in this gym as well. Which is my only negative. I personally dont enjoy hearing the barbells banging the floor. So if youre an anxious person or have ptsd, you should take that into consideration.

As the people staff and others are very nice there.. unless you have alot of money to spend on a trainer everyday, everyone pretty much ignores you. If you get one day with a trainer, you are expected to know what to do, how to do it, and how many times on your own. Not what i was looking for , for the $120.00 i just spent. If your new to the gym scene, and dont know what to do or how to do it. Like myself , you dont have alot of money. Find somewhere else to go.
