One of the best alternatives to dealership services in Johnson County.

I was in town for 1 day en route to a 4500 mile east coast road trip with my family. We were hauling our camper with my truck. The Ford dealer scoffed at me for attempting to get in first thing on a Mon morning (“we see 140 cars a day, I can’t just get you in without notice!”). Smith not only made time for my issue (ended up being a computer system issue that caused my engine to stall while towing), but identified it, fixed it, and got me my truck back with a few hours to spare, before we had to leave that same afternoon to move on out east. Excellent service.

Customer service sucks. Nothing but rude. Can’t even ask for an estimated time. Worse place I’ve ever taken my car in to. Let’s hope their “skills” are better than their mouths.

I stopped by for a few minutes to have them look at my side mirror to order the part. They got the part and me in quickly. The part ended up not working, but they ordered a new one a replaced it by the next week. They got it done quickly and for a fair price. Definitely will be using them again!

This past weekend I went to Kansas City for Planet Comicon. During the drive, my car picked up a shudder when I would accelerate. There are few things worse than having your car suddenly become questionable while on a long road trip. I was far from home, didnt know anything about the area, and now my car was acting up.I was staying with a friend in Olathe, and he recommended Smith Specialty Automotive and encouraged me to go have the car checked out. I was leery (as I would be with any mechanic I dont know), but I went in anyway.They. Were. Amazing.Not only did they see me right away, but they identified the problem, fixed it, and had me on my way within a few hours. The staff (Michael, Austin, Jordan) that I talked with were polite and professional.In short, I cant say enough good things about Smith Specialty Automotive. They turned a potentially disastrous start to my trip into no big deal. I got back on the road, had a great con, and drove back to Denver yesterday without a single shudder.Thank you Smith Specialty! You did a fantastic job. If I ever break down on the road again, I sure hope its in Olathe. :)

Get this. These guys checked out the blown engine on a car I bought used in Leavenworth. Engine blew at 3pm. Before 5 pm my car was picked up, dropped at their shop, and diagnosed! Correctly I might add. Then, the next day, after researching found my engine might be warrantied. They knew the car was, at the very least, going back to Leavenworth. But they continued to work to help me. They took care of my car until we could get it towed to the proper location. I wont say what it cost because I feel like they treated me like a Rock Star! Like I got the Mahomes Allstate rate! Thanks guys!

Went in for low tire indicator, a winter checkup, and an oil change. A transmission fluid change was needed, as found in their routine engine health check. Dry rot was also found in the tires that I knew were overdue for replacement. They gave me a quote (3 actually), which beat out quotes from other shops. They turned the work around very quickly and kept me informed of the progress. Very pleased with their efficiency and professionalism.

Smith Specialty is my go-to mechanic in Olathe. My check engine light came on and they were able to get me in the next day and get it taken care of for me to pick up the same day. I have been to a lot of mechanics in the past and Smith Speciality is a shop that I trust to be honest, safe, and to fix my car properly. My husband and I dont trust just anyone with our diesel truck. Knowing Diesels can be fickle, it takes a special shop to trust knowing things are done right. Bill was knowledgeable, and has a tech that knows Diesels very well, and they did a fantastic job! They saved us from spending $900 we didnt have on a PCM that wasnt necessary. Sadly, it is hard to find a shop that has honest morals, and that would rather save you money than make money on an educated guess. Smith Specialties will be on the top of our list for any repairs going forward

Great service and very affordable for something like an oil change. The dealership quoted me over $100 just for an oil change. Suffice it to say, Smith Speciality didnt change anywhere close to that. Definitely will be going here now for my car needs.

They have excellent customer service and remember our names when we come in - Jordan is especially over the top friendly!! The mechanics are very knowledgeable about each make/model vehicle and are extremely honest about what needs to be done. Id like to say from my own experience this is a reputable place to have your automobile worked on. They do very good work. Very friendly people and the service is great. The owner himself (Dave) took the time out to come to the shop to give me an oil change on a Saturday because I would not be able to get it done through any other day of the week. He is a wonderful person.

I wish I could give them 10 stars!Ive been bringing my cars to Smith for like 15 years now. They are never less than amazing. Start to finish. They stand behind their work, although, I cant ever recall having an issue because they do it right the first time. Which is important since Ive moved over the years and currently, they are a minimum 45min one way drive away.They are super accommodating with scheduling and do everything they can to make drop off/pick-up as convenient for you as possible.They are thorough. No matter what you come in for, they will check other things, usually safety stuff like brakes, tire tread, lights, etc. They will let you know about those things and provide a quote if you ask for it but no scare tactic sales speech.Just when you think customer service is a lost art, the people here will blow your mind. Personable and professional. They take time to explain things and educate you about your car. They will offer information about products that are appropriate for your car/driving habits and will ask questions to help you decide but will never push the sale.And then they take it a step further. When they ask how you are doing, they actually listen to the answer. If they hear you are looking for something (a job, an apartment, a drycleaner, anything) they will ask a few clarifying questions and offer helpful information. It is not uncommon for me to get a call later in the day, with someone following up with information/answers to questions Id asked while I was there.I personally know that I sometimes talk too long/much and probably keep them from their work but they are always polite and cheerful. I just cant say enough good things about the whole operation.

When my vehicle would not start recently I had it towed to Smith Specialty Automotive. It was fixed that day without an appointment.When my friend’s car would not start the manger came to her house to inspect her car. They will provide transportation if needed. They are attentive to their customers. I would highly recommend this business and would not take my vehicle anywhere else!

Best experience in these strange times. They even left a bottle of hand sanitizer in the car with a note. Even though it is a longer drive, it is worth it.

The guys at the shop are very personable. They were able to get my car looked at over the lunch hour and were completely honest and upfront on what NEEDED to be done with the car. They did a great job explaining what was wrong and what needed to be done as well as having a written estimate with the same explanation for me to look at. This helped when trying to understand what exactly was wrong so I could explain it to my significant other. This is the first time I’ve taken my vehicle here and it won’t be my last.

They’ve always been really helpful and take the time to answer all my questions. After another shop in town couldn’t figure out why they couldn’t get my AC compressor to work the guys at Smith’s took the time to come out and take a look at my car. Within about 5 minutes they figured out it was a fuse and showed me how to fix it myself. They ended up saving me a lot of money. I would recommend checking them out.

I place my mechanic on the same level as my doctor. You want to go to someone you can trust, someone that will listen to your “symptoms” and someone that’s going to give you the right diagnosis. Jordan, Dave, Mike, Bill and the entire crew at Smith have been and continue to be reliable and trustworthy. I would not take my car anywhere else! You wouldn’t just take your child to any doctor, why would you take your car to any just mechanic? Your car is what gets your family to the doctor. They turned what could’ve been a dark season into a blessed season.

I intended to write a positive review, but after returning home with my vehicle to find the work I had paid for was not complete, I was extremely disappointed. One issue was “fixed”, yet the condition I drove my car home in was incredibly unsafe and harmful for my engine. I don’t want to bash Smith Specialty Automotive, because as you can see by other reviews they do fine work and have returning customers, but I would urge any potential new customer to get a second opinion before approving work and most certainly check their work before leaving the lot!! Lesson learned.

We’ve used Smith Specialty twice now - one for an oil change and once to get the brakes replaced. Both times they got us in quickly and were helpful in explaining things. With the new brakes, they had given an estimate several weeks before and the actual cost was less because they found a better deal on parts. I’ve had a great experience both times and will go back.

My first service at Smith Specialty Auto proved worthy of my time and effort to get there. The professionalism of the staff was demonstrated from my initial phone throughout the entire duration of my scheduled appointment for regular maintenance on my Volvo XC90. When compared to the customer service and charges I received at the area’s Volvo ,dealership, Smith Specialty Auto ranked 1000% above the other. I truly appreciate the recommendation I was given for SSA and will continue to call on them for service while in the KC area.

Ive been to the dealership several times with both mine and my wifes car. Every time, they seem to try and get us to do extra things for our vehicles. While many parts of those services do come with warrantee, many dont and the costs could add up. Smith Specialty, is a family-oriented business that always does their best to save me some money. This has been my mechanic since I moved to KC over a decade ago. A friend referred me to SSA because they were “honest, do excellent work, and have fair prices.” I have had the same experience from the start and won’t go anywhere else.

I have been taking my car(s) here for several years and have never had an issue with any service done. The staff is always performing safety checks throughout the car on each visit, even during just a routine oil change. On several occasions theyve gone out of their way to consult with manufacturer(s) on items that should be considered warranty, or making sure there wasnt a recall on whatever part is failing, or failed.There are not many shops that perform quality auto repair/maintenance in addition to great customer service. The staff is VERY friendly and honest up front with major work needing done. I am always given suggestions of what could be done, versus just being told to have a part replaced, or worked on, that really didnt need immediate attention.

We had a bad experience at Smiths. I see a lot of positive reviews on here; too many in fact. It may just be that we were unlucky with poor service but we were quoted one price, charged a much higher amount, and didnt receive satisfactory repair work. If you use Smiths, make sure you double check their work.

Ive been taking my cars here since 2002. The customer and diagnostic approach is the best Ive seen in my 65 years on planet Earth. Wow, maybe Ive overstated that? Well, it is the honest truth. I knew of one other similar mechanic in Western Kansas, but he died 30 years ago. Ive been pleased with the attitudes from all the workers here.

The guys at Smiths’s are incredibly honest, fair and reliable. My family and my extended family have been taking our vehicles there for well over a decade if not longer. I can tell you that there is no “selling of repairs.” I’m never going anywhere else!
