Phil was so great for my high school daughter who was struggling in Calculus in her senior year of HS. She had several other tutors that were decent but none were as fantastic as Phil was. He was flexible with her busy schedule and was patient and able to explain things and meet her at her level. I would highly recommend him for anyone struggling in math.
I have worked with Dr. Phil G. for just under a semester and it has helped my grade so much. I had a notable improvement in my honors pre-calculus grade and now have much better confidence when it comes to math. He makes complex concepts easy to understand and is very patient throughout the process. After each session, he sent me the notes summarizing all the material that we covered. I now have a much better association with math and I would recommend him to anyone who is struggling with the subject!
I have been working with Dr. Phil G for 2 semesters now. I plan to continue to do so. He is very professional & very knowledgeable. He has not only helped me with math and statistics, but also with my confidence. I am now able to solve problems independently, as we were able to target my weaknesses while at the same time further develop my strengths. He is also very patient & has a good sense of humor. Highly recommended for those struggling or for those who wish to work ahead & be better prepared for class.
Phil has been tutoring me since my freshman year in high school and i just finished my first year of college. He has been a huge help and explains every topic so well and in a way i understand. He really makes sure i grasp they topic well before we move on. I couldn’t have passed my math classes without him and i highly recommend! Most recently he helped me in my math 95 class!
My daughter is a sophomore and a Secondary Education Mathematics major at Illinois State University. Math courses course for math majors can be difficult during normal times, and the transition this past year to online learning creates additional challenges. My daughter was finding Math 260 (Discrete Mathematics) one of these challenges. I had seen an excellent recommendation for Phil’s math tutoring on the Illinois State Parents Facebook page and contacted him for information. He was available to meet with my daughter the next day and they worked together both virtually and in person all semester. He was flexible and available to work through any homework, prep for quizzes and tests. She successfully completed the class and we will definitely be working with Phil in the future. Thank you Phil!
To whoever is looking for a math tutor, Phillip Grizzard is the person you want to contact. I began my tutoring journey with Phil at the start of my freshman year of college in the Fall of 2016. For my whole life, math was never my strong suit. I had no confidence in my skills when it came to math. It terrified me, but Phil was able to change that for me. I would see Phil for about 2-3 days a week from the start of freshman year until my senior year of college. 4 years. Now I know there are people out there who seek a math tutor who may have a better sense of math than I did. Some people may need help in a specific area, but mine was everything. I never knew where to begin, but Phil worked with me each tutoring session to learn the math content I was working on at the time. If I were stuck on a problem, he would explain step by step how to approach the problem and apply those skills to answer the question. Not only did Phil help me with my math courses, but he also helped me prepare for the ACT. I needed to boost my math score to stay on track for my major. The number of retakes I took for the ACT was endless. Because of Phil, I was able to increase my math score and pass. There were times where I would get frustrated and want to give up, but Phil made sure that I comprehended the information that was given to me.I recently graduated from Illinois State University on December 12th, 2020 majoring in elementary education. Before I could even graduate in December, I was required to pass the elementary education content exam to receive my teaching license. I continued to see Phil prepare for the math portion of this exam. I had to retake the test 5 times. Despite those fails, my math score was higher than I expected. Finally, on October 9th, 2020, my 5th retake, I passed my content exam and was able to graduate. My math score was incredible, and I owe it all the Phil. I lacked so much confidence in myself, and Phil helped me see that spark in me that I never knew I had. I never realized how far Ive come up until now. Phil was just my math tutor at the start, but now I am happy to say that I can call Phil my friend.
Phil tutored both of my kids last summer. He taught my kids to not disregard their abilities to do math & to trust that everyone has the ability to perform math, its simply more challenging for some.Because of this, my kids were able to stop operating off of emotions & were able to get their head in the game.My son got straight As in Geometry last year (and it taking advanced Algebra next year, & my daughter is doing great in her college Algebra course. Math no longer intimidates my kids.I cant reccomend Phil highly enough, he has my complete faith!
Best tutor I have ever worked with! I was failing my math 120 class. Once I started getting tutored my Philip my grade went from a 58 to a 83!! I went from getting 30% on my exams to averaging 95% on exams and quizzes! Highly recommend
I am a Secondary Mathematics Education major at Illinois State University. Most of the mathematics courses in my track are very abstract and can be difficult. This past semester I was in Math 260 (Discrete Mathematics). I went into this proof-heavy course with minimal background knowledge on how to set up and write a proof. The first exam set my grade to a C and I received a B on the final and in the course. Working with Phil, attending office hours throughout the semester, and spacing out my studying made it possible for me to get the B. Now, I would say I have a stronger background in proofs and hopefully this will help me in Linear Algebra and my other math courses that lie ahead!
I have a daughter in high school that has a medical condition which affects her memory and focus. Phil has been great helping her thru algebra and geometry. And we will, for sure, return to Phil for algebra II. !!!!! He has been so patient teaching, repeating and reteaching concepts that are difficult for her retain. Concussion sufferers, this is your tutor!!!! Highly recommend
Phil is an awesome tutor! Going into my class this past semester, I had little confidence because I had previously failed the class, and have always struggled with math in general. But with Phil’s help I was able to earn a B in MAT 144! I’ll be going back to Phil for the second semester & I’m sure he’ll have just as positive an impact.
I was in a very difficult calculus class Math 121, and I would not have gotten through this class without Phil and his tutoring. He used to teach so he is great at explaining concepts in a helpful way. He works with your schedule so you can meet at convenient times, he brings his own supplies so he always prepared. I absolutely would recommend his services to any student struggling in a math course, Phil will help.
Throughout Math 120 I struggled with the tests, and felt overall defeated by the course. A week prior to the final exam, I reached out to Phil and told him I was going into it with a 67%. We scheduled to meet four times throughout the week and with his patience, encouragement, and overall mastery of mathematics he helped me earn an 82% on the final which allowed me to pass with a 75% in the course. Not only was Phil a phenomenal teacher, but he gave me confidence in myself and actually made learning math enjoyable through his sense of humor and upbeat personality. I highly recommend utilizing his service to anyone in a Math course, and without a doubt he will help you succeed.
Hes a great tutor, Ive only had As while being tutored by him, he really helps by explaining the concepts.
Went to get help with MAT 146 Calculus 2. And this tutor basically helped me pass my class when it was crunch time for finals. He goes over all the material and concepts, very carefully to make sure you fully understand what is going on in the problem. Very easy to communicate with as well. I would fully recommend this tutor if you want to save your grade or need some extra help.
Great tutor! He explains concepts clearly and helps to combine other mathematical understanding when tutoring a subject.
I had a very bad professor for MAT 351 this semester. I had to work harder to pass that course than for any other mathematics course Ive ever taken, and Ive taken quite a few. That said, I dont think I would have passed without Phils help. While it was somewhat clear to me that he was a little out of practice in advanced statistics, he nevertheless pulled through for me where I needed him to.Dr. Grizzard always has a great sense of his students individual learning temperament, and as a result, he knows when to offer assistance and when to back off and let his students own mind do the work it needs to in order to absorb the course material. He himself expressed to me during one session that he is far more used to tutoring 100 level math courses, and in certain ways, it did show. However, having someone else reviewing the material alongside me helped me in unexpected ways. All in all, Phil has my very strong recommendation, and I will be coming to him again if ever I need assistance again.
My daughter was recommended by a friend to Phil for help with High School Algebra and Geometry. She had started a new school and was slipping behind quickly. Phil took her back to the basics helping her fill gaps she had and was able to catch her up to her classes speed. My daughter goes once a week for 90 minutes at a time. Her self confidence along with her math skills have gotten so much stronger. She feels like Phil explains math in a way that her teacher doesnt. Phil will help with homework, preparing for a test and even correcting test to make sure she understands the concepts. My daughter now enjoys math, maybe not at school but she does when she is learning from Phil. Thank you Phil for all of your help!
If math is not your best subject or even if you need just a brush up on your math skills, Phil is the guy to go to. I took math 113 at ISU a year ago and finished with a D in the class. Although it is a 100 level class, anyone that has taken math 113,119 or 120 will say that it can be very difficult at times. Phil is extremely patient with the students that he tutors and he always makes sure that you understand the problem that you are working on. After being tutored by Phil I am going to receive a C or a B- in my math 113 class (wont find out for sure until after the final) If I could give 10.0 stars I would! Thanks Phil!
PHG Tutoring is the place to go if you need math tutoring. Phil tutored my son this summer while he took an Algebra class and it helped him so much. My son said that Phil broke things down for him so that he understood the math. Also, Phil welcomed any questions and concerns my son had throughout the tutoring to make it a great learning experience. I would not hesitate to use Phil again if the need arises!
Being an IT major, making it through math 120 and math 160 was gonna be two of my hardest classes to get through. Through the assistance of David, I was able to make it through the harder of the math classes with my skin intact. He was able to make sense out of material that my professor failed to, answer every single one of my questions, even if not right away hed get back to me a few days later or by email. Very dedicated and hard working, and definitely worth the money in the end. Cant thank you enough David, hope this helps.
I find his tutoring to be very helpful! Definitely improved my math skills as well as my confidence with math. Highly recommend if you struggle with math.
It was an absolute pleasure to work with Phil while taking Trigonometry 108 at Illinois State. After a few weeks of the class, I could tell it was going to take a lot of extra effort on my part and some outside help as well. I found a flyer for Phil while walking out of class one day and gave him a call. It was one of the best decisions I could have made for myself. Phil really broke things down for me and helped me understand not just how to do the practice problems, but how and WHY the problems worked. He was extremely patient with me and was always willing to meet at weird times, go an hour later than planned, etc. to make sure I felt comfortable and that I understood the material. He was also exceptionally knowledgeable. I really wish I had him as my instructor! Over the many hours we had spent together, he became a great teacher, mentor, and friend. The math class I was taking was the only thing standing between me and graduating from ISU. He truly changed the course of my future. I believe tutors are somewhat expensive in general so there may be a bit of sticker shock to those who have never had a tutor before, but if you feel you need one, Phil is the man to go with. Thanks again Phil.Sincerely,Jake
If you are struggling with math, Phil is your guy. I had a D in Math 113 at ISU for most of the semester and with Phil’s help I ended with a solid B. He’s extremely patient, no matter how many negative comments you make, and is very good at approaching topics in different ways to help you better understand the subject. If you’re like me and hesitated about the price, it’s MORE than worth it.
Turning to PHG Tutoring when I was struggling with discrete math was the best decision I could have made. Seeing as discrete is a higher-level math course, I didnt think I would be able to find a tutor able to help. Tutor Dave Mendel helped me to understand the material and pass the course with flying colors! I would definitely recommend PHG Tutoring to anyone, at any level of math ability.
If you are looking for help in any math course, look no further. Honestly! Phil helped me so much in my Calculus II course at Illinois State University (MAT 147). I came in understanding very little about my course. I would go to class and not understand a thing, but the moment I sat down with Phil I was able to grasp the concepts behind everything. He is incredibly patient, relates everything you are learning to you, he definitely makes it a comfortable atmosphere. So if you really need help this should be your last stop. You will gain so much from him and his knowledge in math. Highly recommend.
I went to Phil because i was struggling a lot in Math 121 (calculus) at ISU. After seeing him a few times my grade increased a lot and I ended up actually understanding the material much better after each session. Thanks to him I ended up passing the course! If you’re struggling in a math course i would highly recommend seeing him.
I go to Illinois State University and was getting help with math 130 for elementary education majors. PHG is really close to campus and easy to find. I went up two letter grades in the class after going through tutoring here! It is also really easy to schedule an appointment!
As a freshman college student I needed to take math 119 (college algebra) for my major. After looking at my first week of notes I knew that I would need some help. I contacted Phil and worked with him throughout the semester. The results have been phenomenal and I would recommend him to anybody who is struggling in math at any level.
I decided to get a tutor after not passing the math section of the Basic Skills Test three times. I was a little hestitant about it because I tried to go to math reviews and such beforehand but I knew that I needed a personal tutor to pass. I was dangerously close to having to switch my major because of the test. Phil was great! He met with me during the only limited times I had available. We went over a ton of material. He went with my pace and explained what I was doing, why I was doing it, and how it will help me, not only to pass, but for life in general. Besides that, Phil encouraged and instilled in me a confidence in math that I hadnt had before. On the fourth time of taking the Basic Skills Test, after only eight or so hour and a half sessions, I finally passed!! :) With Phils help, I am now able to stay in my major and graduate on my projected date! Thanks Phil for all your help!
Being a math major, I started struggling in my high level math courses at ISU. I ended up having to retake Linear Algebra (MAT175). With Phils help about once a week, I was able to pass the course my second time and get an A! I will be going back to get help from him again in the spring for Discrete Mathematics (MAT260), and I am confident that with his assistance I will succeed in the course.Phil always worked to accommodate my schedule, and used a personal approach which you cant get in the classroom. For anyone who needs extra help to do well in a math course, I highly recommend getting in touch with Phil.
Algebra II was a killer! Our senior was struggling and we couldn’t help with the content. Even though both of us have PhDs, it had been too long since we took algebra! Good friends recommended Phil and our prayers were answered. It turned out that our senior was a natural mathematical thinker – it just took Phil to bring it out. Phil’s patience, his ability to explain and make the content accessible, and his coaching talent were prevalent throughout! We cannot thank Phil enough for getting us through this difficult course. We wholeheartedly recommend Phil to anyone who needs a knowledgeable, yet compassionate math tutor. He is the best!
I was struggling with Elementary Linear Algebra at the beginning of the semester and was afraid I was going to have to retake it. After getting some help from PHG Tutoring, though, I got a B in the class! Phil is an awesome guy who definitely knows his stuff. If I ever need tutoring for a math class again, I know who to go to!
My daughter was struggling in her MATH 113 class at Illinois State University and found information about Dr. Phil Grizzard on a bulletin board at ISU. We contacted Phil and easily worked out a plan and package and convenient times for him to meet with my daughter and tutor her. She was committed to passing her class and succeeding and that, along with the great teaching skills of Phil, and lots of extra credit, and work on her own, she was able to bring her grade up from failing to passing and did well on her final. If you are struggling in college level math courses of any kind, it is worth the money and time to seek out Phil for extra help and tutoring!!!
I had struggled with Math 119 in the beginning of last semester and Phil helped me understand all of the material really well! I felt better about the course after every session and ended up passing the course with the grade I wanted by the end of the semester!
I went to Phil for one semester for Math113. He helped me work through the homework and gave me great testing tips. He used good examples that were relatable and gave me tips on how to remember formulas. If you need help passing a math class at ISU, I highly recommend Phil.
I was really struggling in MAT175- Elementary Linear Algebra and was getting more and more lost as the we went further into the syllabus. When I started with Phil he took me from the beginning straight to the end of the syllabus and I understood every bit of it, and because of him I got a B in that class.
Phil is an awesome teacher! I was in Finite math (Math 120 at ISU) and he raised my grade and helped me pass my class. I highly recommend him as a tutor.
Working with Phil was great. Our daughter was, for the first time ever last year, struggling with math and her Algebra course and we found Phil. He was easy to work with and flexible from our point of view and from our dauthers point of view explained things very well. She upped her grade significantly throughout the year and her ISATs and MAP testing scores for Math outpaced even her reading, which was a first. Definitely a great tutor!
Phil made calculus seem easy and understandable. He was a great tutor and I would recommend him to anyone struggling in math.
He is an excellent tutor and works to hold you accountable and responsible. He will work the times around your schedule and is an excellent man to work with.
I would highly recommend Phil as a Math tutor. He was a tremendous help to my daughter when she took very difficult, advanced Math classes at ISU.
My son was failing Calculus at mid-term, which was required for his major at ISU. I contacted Phil and he setup a tutor for my son. My son immediately inform me that his new tutor was great and he was beginning to get passing grades on his quizes. My son went from a D a mid-term to B- for his his final grade. We were so happy with Phil and His team. I would recommend this tutoring company to any concern parent. You get more than your money worth from this organization. Go Phil !
Worked with Phil to improve my ACT math score, covering a variety of topics. Phil works not only to help you learn but also to reinforce basics that may have slipped or are weakly reinforced. Phil helped me clean up my math and now my score is right where I want it.
PHG Tutoring was one of the best decisions I have made. I took calculus for the first time this semester and had difficulty from the start with my teachers style of teaching. I signed up with Phil and had the pleasure of working with one of his assistants David Mendell. David not only helped me understand calc more but would take the time out of his day before we met to make practice exams, example sheets, and notes. You can really tell the people from PHG Tutoring care about your grade as much as you do. I would advise anyone struggling in their math class to take advantage of PHG Tutoring services.
Our son was a student-athlete at Heartland CC and recently needed Phil’s services to help him pass a mandatory Statistics class so he could continue his college baseball career at the four year school he had committed to last fall. It is not an exaggeration to say that it was a “make or break” situation. Had you asked me a year ago if I would ever pay so much for a tutor I would have thought you were crazy! But, given what was riding on the class, when it came right down to it, it really was an easy decision and worth every penny. Phil took such an interest in our son’s success in the classroom and in his future we knew he was in good hands. Being a summer school class it moved fast, but with Phil’s help once or twice a week, not only did our son pass but he got a B+ in the class….high enough to bring up his GPA to qualify for some additional scholarship money! Our son is so relieved and has said several times he could never have done it without Phil.
We contacted PHG tutoring midway through the semester when my daughter was struggling with Calc 2. She had used the college and math tutoring services from the college. After scoring vey low on first 2 exams she began tutoring with Jessie, one of Phils employees.Things immediately began to look up. She received an 88% on her next exam and final. She received a B in the class. Without the help of PHG tutoring this would not have been possible.Thank you Jessie and Phil.Would highly recommend this math tutoring service to anyone who is struggling in Math.
I went to Phil after I failed my first test in Applied Calculus at Illinois State. Math has always been difficult for me, but Phil helped me so much. He was very patient and always knew the answers to my questions without having to look in a book. Phil helped me bring my grade up, I would not have passed this class if it werent for him.
