I have a 2007 Toyota Highlander that has 250,000 miles on it and is a pleasure to drive. I could not continue to drive this vehilce without the exceptional service that I have had from Genins over the years. I have been a customer of Genins for more than 30 years and would not think of going anywhere else for vehilce maintenance. We actually lived in Northern Wisconsin for 18 years and would wait for an opportunity to travel to Madison so that I could continue to have our vehicles maintened by Genins. Rick, Kerry Joe, and their staff are simply the most excellent and service oriented car maintenance people that I have ever known. Five Stars Plus to all.

Recently our Honda CRV had an oil leak, which we discovered on a Sunday evening, of course. We were able to schedule an appointment online for the next morning, and Genins had it completely checked out, repaired, and returned to us by that afternoon. They determined it was caused by a faulty oil filter (not installed by them) and charged us $64. This is our second great experience with Genins this year, and were thrilled with their quality, service, honesty, and reasonable prices.

And they will call you several times to remind you of this.If having your prices posted on your google reviews is that much of a bother, maybe you should lower your prices.

Ive gotten a few oil changes here and have had some work done on my car. Rick is a great guy and his staff are wonderful to talk to on the phone. Its conveniently located if you live on the near west side or downtown, and they are often able to get my car in with short notice. Additionally, they have a few loaner vehicles available if you need one in a pinch. It can be hard to trust shops, but Ive felt respected and well treated every time Ive had to bring my car in. Definitely the place to go downtown if you need routine maintenance or if you have a more acute problem pop up! Highly recommend.

Rick, the owner, is an OUTSTANDING person! It was a rough morning, I needed gas, but apparently forgot my wallet as I rushed out the door that morning. He did not hesitate and lent me money for gas, even when I wasnt able to provide a collateral in exchange or repay him for a week when I was back in town. I needed a kind gentle smiling face and heart that morning, and he was spot on when he said if youre in a pickle, youre in the right place. I will forever be grateful... and will always keep emergency cash in my car!

Not bad! They squeezed me in yesterday before I had to be at work. I needed a headlight bulb. I was in an out in about 25 minutes on a Friday. This was after calling as a new customer on Thursday. Not much space between the gas pumps and service lot. Im thankful that the staff gladly helped me out with that.

They let me know that my old car (1996 Accord) probably wasnt worth updating and called me before they just fixed everything. Great service in that way and I appreciated their frankness and openness before just fixing my car. My only complaint is that the front desk service was a bit rude to me. I came in for an appointment and later to pick up my car, and the person at the desk acted like I was inconveniencing them with my presence. Kind of snarky and rude.

I had a terrible experience here yesterday. Had a flat tire, stopped by one of the gas pumps, and sat in my car for about 20 minutes as I was on a business call. One of the reps walked by and tapped on my window, gestured something, so I rolled down my window and he told me I had to move to a stall if I wasnt pumping gas. I told him I was going to pump gas after my call, and he left. After my call, I got off the car to speak to a rep (about my tire and to pay for gas), and the woman -- I assume she was some kind of supervisor or manager -- was extremely hostile and seemed somewhat manic -- for no apparent reason. I greeted her and there was no greeting, nothing -- the first thing she says to me is Your tire is messed up because you drove on it what do you going to do? Are you getting it towed? What? I turned around and walked right out after telling saying this isnt any kind of customer service. As I walked away she kept shouting at me -- Im not sure what, but I was extremely surprised -- What are they thinking speaking to a customer this way? I took my business elsewhere: went to Discount Tires over on 4645 Verona Rd, Madison, WI and they were awesome -- very polite, capable, and a great price. Never coming to Genins again.

Ive been going to Genins since moving to the Madison area and they continue to look out for my best interest. They discovered some issues with my car after I took it in for a routine oil change. These issues sounded to me to be directly correlated with an accident I had been in a few months prior, caused by the other driver. I had that persons insurance completely involved in the process and the professionals at Genins advocated for me as much as possible, which really helped me out in this scenario! I would definitely recommend going here if you dont know much about cars and want mechanics that will be honest and straight up with you, instead of take advantage.

So my car won’t start after leaving work on a cold night figured I would’ve needed a jumpstart call my insurance for road Side assistance. Let’s just say they won’t helpful I Uber home after jumpstaring failed and found myself on google looking at reviews and auto shops in the Madison areas not to far from where I work or live. I called one shop that also had pretty decent reviews but they told me they wasn’t able to fit me in till Thursday which would’ve been 4 days later so of course my reply was is that the best you can do because that’s not going to work for me. My second call was to Genins who give me a two Truck number after jumpstarting fail to make plans to get it to their location. So Tuesday around 11:15am I believe the two tuck took my car from the location in which it was stall to Genins which mind you I called and let them know my car was on the way and give them permission to diagnose and let me know the next step. My car got their and no one contacted me to let me know what was happening I may have call about twice that same day to be told my car wasn’t looked at yet at this point 24hr had went by and I called and had to explain how unprofessional it was that they had my car for 24hr and know one contacted me.I was doing all the calling and I need to know what was going on ASAP because I’ve been ubering to and from work and that was costly. I’m not well vers in cars but I do come from a family of mechanics and know it doesn’t take 24 for a shop to tell you what’s wrong with a vehicle. I got my dad involved because I really couldn’t explain to him what was going on so I had them explain to him after 24 hours all my car needed was a fuse to be changed and a battery recharge. Then I figured they already had the car 24 plus hours why not do an oil change since I’m due for one. I ask if someone could have dropped my car off where I work that way I didn’t have to leave work to pick it up they was nice to do so but when I got in the car my lights to the radio display wasn’t turning on I then waved down the person dropping the car off to ask if he noticed it his response was no but you can call the shop and let them know. At this point I’m just about overly frustrated and was like I’m deal with this tomorrow. To my surprise got to parking my car and my coworker noticed one of the brake light was out. Can someone say frustrating! Called the shop back today to let them know her first response was someone drove behind your car when it was being drop off they would’ve noticed it helloooooo someone also drove my car and didn’t realize my radio display wasn’t lightning up. They told me they could come to where they drop off the car which is my place of employment to look at it but unfortunately I was able to allow that to happen so tomorrow I’m going to take my to the shop so they can let me know if the Lightbulb need to be changed. Mind you I already paid about $229 to have my car Diagnosed, oil change and to recharge the battery. Just about over this let’s see what happens tomorrow! Of course it’s tomorrow and I get to the shop and the young man has no clue what I’m talking. Don’t even think he recall dropping off the car to me. He then went and make a call came back to tell me o yeah that will cost $7 lmaooo. Lacking communication amongst themselves witch plays off to me as being unprofessional. Plus don’t think they spend a fair amount of time making sure when you get back your vehicle it’s probably work. Take some time to notice the little things that will improve your customer service so much it will actually make me want to bring my car to you guys . Safe to say I’m still looking for a Quality auto shop in Madison.

This is the kind of shop you worry about happening across when you come to a new city. These people dont care about you or your car, the only thing they assess is how much money they think they can get from you.I took my car in for a run of the mill oil change. But They found 3 parts that needed to be replaced as soon as possible as well as stating that my tires were completely shredded and needed to be replaced before winter or I wouldnt be safe, but dont worry, they just happen to have a sale ongoing that ends in a couple days so I have a very short amount of time to decide whether I should give them over 2000 dollars to fix all the things they just found wrong with my car.I knew something was wrong with their assessment because the tires on my car were less than 9 months old and I hadnt been having any problem with my car. So I didnt allow them to change anything else about my car.Instead, I let them perform the oil change as normal and over the past several months have had my car inspected by 3 other organizations that have all confirmed that theres nothing wrong with my tires or anything else that needed to be replaced as soon as possible.Dont ever give these people your money. Dont let them continue to turn a profit by abusing the trust consumers are often required to place in their mechanics.

I was driving home from work at about 6 pm last winter and I hit a pot hole. My tire was a goner and I needed to change it for my spare tire. Luckily (or so I thought) this happened on University Ave right in front of Genins Auto Care. I am young, it was dark out and I unfortunately have no clue how to change a tire. I went in to ask for some help (and made it very very clear that I would pay for their services if they could just change my tire for me). I got told that they were closed and there is nothing they could do. This wouldnt bother me if no one was there, but I could see a group of 5-6 guys sitting around in a circle talking, laughing and eating in the garage. Even the cashier at the gas station section felt bad and tried to help me change the tire, but he didnt know how either. Luckily a tow truck driver pulled up and helped me so I could get out of there. I have told everyone to avoid this company since and I still cant get over how unhelpful and inflexible they were that night.Update:Hi Rick,“Thank you” for your time replying to my Google review. I assure you I am not setting out to “inaccurately attack” your business. I have no reason to lie about how there was 5-6 people eating inside your work place when I needed help. The cashier did try to come out to help me, but could not so that the effort there was at least appreciated.I’m sorry about not being timely enough in my review. I did write on your Facebook about the incident the day after it happened, which I never received a response on. I tried to go back just now to see what day it was, but apparently my post is no longer there.I don’t appreciate you attacking my review. This is the first time I have ever written a review for Google and this is because I can’t believe the way I was treated that night by the staff that was there. Again, there is absolutely no incentive for me to lie about this incident and I am giving my honest opinion about how frustrating that night was and how unhelpful the staff was there.

I would definitely not go here unless you really have to and you dont mind an inaccurate quote.I called ahead and was quoted $250-$320 for labor, but after I took my car to their garage the labor magically jumped up to $440. The person I called gave me the quote according to the book and I also had a few other shops give me a similar quote, I chose this shop because it was close to where I lived. I buckled down and went with their price because my car couldnt physically make it to any other shop at this point and I wasnt going to risk having to call a tow truck. Honestly they knew what the issue with my car was and that I wouldnt be able to refuse the service after my car made it to their shop so I was really offended by this.My next problem was the call I received about 90 minutes later. They called to inform me that the treads on my axle shaft were cross threaded and that they needed to replace it. I have personally taken the nut off of the axle in question and put it back on with no problem at all. They informed me that their impact gun couldnt turn the nut so my guess is that they didnt start the threads by hand like a normal person would. They told me the axle would cost $100 to replace and told me that they would keep my car on jack stand if I didnt pay, basically threatening to keep my car because of a problem they caused. My last problem was how they treated me when I voiced my concerns. The receptionist brought the mechanic out to talk to me and he got defensive immediately for no reason. I have done work to the car and admitted it to him and he replied by accusing me of hammering on the drive shaft. I told him if I did I would have used a rubber mallet and he laughed at me. I have completely disassembled and reassembled a car in a garage with my father and have performed all maintenance on my car according to the Haynes manual I bought after I bought my car. I know better than to hammer on the threads on a bolt because the nut will not physically thread back on. He told me I must have hammered the threads because they couldnt get the nut on with the impact gun they used. I asked if the started the nut by hand and he didnt reply.TLDR: The mechanics know how to do their jobs but not as well as youd hope them to. I wouldnt take your car here unless you want the staff to rip you off in some way.

And their estimates for the repairs was exhorbitant. So I blew 160$ for NO REPAIRS (ONLY PARTIAL DIAGNOSIS) done here, but thankfully found Mex Mufflers after seeing exceptional Google Reviews for their place. They quoted half the price and I saved 500$ by declining the service here and going there instead. If you want a peace of mind, avoid reasoning with them about costs - they are very rude. I recommend Mex Mufflers instead! If you want to blow your money and still must go there, at least do not agree to proceed with repairs under 300$ (or other amount) before they contact you.
