I absolutely trust them with all my cars and family cars, would not trust anyone else they really treat you like part of the family. If your like me I don’t know much about cars they explained everything that was needing work so I would understand. Everyone is so nice and friendly there. 100% the only place I would recommend.

I highly recommend Chets Car Care! I recently took my car to another Madison Area car repair shop and after they told me I would need $1300 worth of work done I wanted to get a second opinion. I went to Chets and it turned out all I needed was a new wheel bearing. They saved me so much money and did not take advantage of me! They also gave me a ride to and from work while my car was being worked on. These are great trustworthy people to have working on your car.

Chets always does a great job but the most important thing to me is I know I can trust they arent going to nickel and dime me. I appreciate them doing what they can to make my service as affordable as possible.

I recently moved to the area, and have already brought my elderly car by Chet’s several times. They are fast, reliable, and willing to explain the repairs to you if you have any questions. I’m a little paranoid about my old car, but I do know my vehicle very well, and they always treat my concerns seriously and professionally, which is much appreciated.

I called up with a punctured tire and they told me to come in the same day. Staff were very friendly and helpful, and managed to fix my tire instead of trying to sell me a new one so saved me a lot of money. Very reasonable price for the work as well, I will definitely use them again.

I take my car here when I need a ride home and back to the shop. They are very customer service oriented and I appreciate that. They are not always the cheapest though.

This place was absolutely wonderful. I was needing to get home from The Dells and had a flat tire. After contacting 4 different places, including a Chevy dealership, no tires in my size were to be found. Chets was recommended and they were able to get my tires and get me back on the road in no time. While I hope that I never have a need to have my vehicle serviced while on vacation again, I would not hesitate to take my vehicle back to Chets.

I recently needed a wheel bearing replaced. I was able to get in quickly and a full repair completed in record time. Matt kept in touch by cell and I was able to pick it up in a few hours. They have cared for my truck for years and are always friendly and professional.

Two weeks just to get in no thanks

I moved in town three years ago, I did my search, made an educated decision to go with Chets and I never looked back again.Sometimes car repairs can be stressful due to the fact that most of us knows nothing about cars. Not at Chets. Starting from the owner Eric, to Paul and Matt at the front desk, to the service technicians and to the person that may give you a ride, they are going to take the time to make sure that you understand the what and why of the repair. The service is delivered with professionalism, efficiency, integrity and the right amount of warmth that makes you feel like you are part of the family. Quite often if you are waiting for the service to get done you may end up to meet and exchange a pleasant conversation with the man who started all Chet itself (Erics father), and you will know why this is the best family owned car repair in town.

Beyond pleased with my service here. The people were super nice and accommodating. After my car died by their auto shop Eric came to look at it right away and I was provided a free shuttle to work. They let my car sit in their parking lot for over a week free while I Decided what to do with it. I thought they were very fair and very timely and very professional, while being very hospitable and kind.

Been following Chets advice and car care since the late 70s. Never had a bad experience, overcharge or time delay in all that time. The workmanship, courtesy service and customer care have been exemplary. I would have and have had no problem recommending Chets Car Care to anyone.

Well the last two times I brought my care in, I cant get a mile down the road without something going wrong. I decided to take it somewhere else and told them what happened and they called it getting chettied. They found a loose oil drain plug and improperly installed spark plugs. Interesting. I wont be returning.

Took my Smart car here when it seemed the transmission was needing work. Chets put time into my vehicle, but after they realized the software needed updating, they sent my vehicle to Zimbrick. Remarkably, the software update was very inexpensive! I contacted Chets about my bill there and was told I didnt owe them anything!

I had a very negative experience at Chets. I am not extremely familiar with the mechanics of cars, so Im already somewhat uncomfortable visiting a mechanic, and this experience made the situation worse than usual. The man at the counter who helped me, Paul, was almost instantly rude to me. When I spelled out my address for him (it contains an unusual word), he responded, I know how to spell. Im educated! I was immediately taken aback by his response, joking or not, and stayed quiet the rest of the visit. He printed out my receipt and I quickly left. As I was walking out of the lobby toward the door, he called out, Did I spell the address right on the receipt?I returned later that day to pick up my car. Paul was there again and informed me they had forgotten to check one of the items I had asked them to, but I could come back some other time and they would do it. I quickly paid without asking any questions and left as soon as I could.Whether or not Paul intended to be rude to me, his general attitude and comments were very off putting to someone giving HIM business, and someone who does not live and breathe cars the way he does. I 100% will not be returning to Chets and look forward to finding a mechanic that will treat me with respect.

I was extremely happy with the service given. They definitely went over and above to help me. My car broke down after work and I had to call a tow truck to get it to a service station. The tow truck driver recommended Chet’s & towed my car there. When I arrived it was nearly closing time so I was on the phone trying to book a hotel (since I live 40 miles away and had to work the next day). They heard this and said they would quick look at it to see if it was something that could be easily fixed. It was! They stayed past closing to get me on my way. WOW! who does that these days? I am very grateful for the help they gave me. THANK YOU!

Ive been taking my car to Chets for a few years now and they are always very honest and have the lowest prices! They have gotten me in for last minute problems many times and go the extra mile to serve their customers.

Dealership told me I needed new sway bars and sway bar housings for $1300. Chets quoted me for $1k so I visited the shop for the first time. They came out later and said there was nothing wrong with my sway bars. I personally costed Chets mechanics time and effort to look at my car and they had to order a part for me beforehand, yet they gave me an honest answer and didnt charge me anything. I went home without having to get work done. Ill be going to Chets again for my next car repair as they seem honest!

If I could put zero stars I would. Paul, the general manager, was condescending, rude and disrespecful when I calmly tried to ask questions about my bill and what the diagnostics and service included. ($236 for battery replacement!) I told him twice that he was being condescending and he did nothing to change his inappropriate behavior. This was the absolute worst customer service Ive experienced in my entire life EVER. I will never go there again and recommend you take your car somewhere else. I plan to talk to the owner and will update my review if that conversation proves helpful in any way.

AMAZING EXPERIENCE! My first visit to Chets was this week. They were kind, professional, and timely. I was able to schedule within 24 hours. I was treated kindly by the staff. Being a woman in a car shop doesnt always feel the greatest (in the past Ive felt unwelcome or talked down to), but Paul and the guys at Chets didnt make me feel that way at all. Ill definitely be visiting Chets again!

There is an employee here named Paul who apparently doesnt have the intellectual capability or depth of character to know how to speak to people properly. On more than one occasion (once on the phone and twice in person) this “person” was condescending and sharp toned to simple questions. One question was simply because I wasnt informed of the length of time it would take for the repair. He did NOT tell me how long it would take, yet- upon asking him about it he was rude in his response, as if he had told me but he hadnt. Rinse and repeat times two. While waiting for my vehicle, heard similar disrespect to other constumers over the phone. I will never go here again and will make sure NOBODY I know goes here.

I was glad to find an auto shop I can trust. You can find places in the Madison area that are (initially) less expensive, but they might not get the job done completely. I believe Ive only paid more than an initial estimate once out of the dozens of service encounters Ive had with them, and frequently the final bill comes in under the estimate. Add to that some soda, coffee, or hot chocolate while you wait and a shuttle service to and from home or work, and its obvious why Chets is highly regarded. The only minor beef is that they sometimes forget to call me when my car is ready when I happen to need it as soon as its ready. Dont be shy about calling to check on the status of service.

Chets is the best car care place Ive ever been to in my life of cars. Unbelievable customer service, friendly and knowledge front desk team. Every other employee I met there was incredibly genuine and accommodating. I know I can trust them because they have never overcharged me or up-charged me. I have had my cars worked on by the crew at Chets Car Care Center for many years. I own a 03 Saturn and it has had a few issues. Chets service crew was able to diagnose the problems immediately and repair them. I also have Chets crew perform my maintenance ( Oil Changes, Tire Rotation, and Fluids check). Disappointing experience.It costs you too much for a simple job.It is not easy to recommend them to others.You will have one way conversation with their people!!There is a need for them to be realistic, to continue into the future. Remember, it is a simple relationship between the seller and buyer, nothing more or less, for this auto service, since there are many competitors in town.

I absolutely love Chets Car Care Center, and I dont think I will ever go to another repair shop as long as I live in Madison. Everyone who works there is courteous and helpful. They know who I am when I come in. I love the shuttle service which allows me to drop off my vehicle for service and get a ride to work, and then be picked up after work to retrieve it. I can call and ask questions if I need to. The do not recommend things that are unnecessary; for instance, I asked how my tires were looking once and instead of telling me I needed new ones just to get a sale, they told me I could wait a little longer because I had some life left in them. I called to ask questions about a vehicle I was thinking about purchasing, and Eric spent time going over it with me and gladly answering my questions. I cannot say enough about the integrity and professionalism shown by the staff at Chets! I highly recommend that you take your vehicles to them.

My dad knows cars. For a long time I never had to go into a shop. It was awesome. Then I moved away from home and bought a brand new car (with Dads approval of course). Now my dad is a straight shooter, he does a lot of work for barely any compensation. He doesnt like being screwed over or seeing others getting screwed over (Crooks!). Unfortunately my dealership seemed to be doing just that in the maintenance dept. So when I moved I did my research. I picked Chets because of the reviews and my gut feeling that these were good people. I wasnt wrong. They remind me of my Dad, and I love that. They arent trying to nickel and dime me, and they dont suggest unnecessary things. I know my Dad would approve.

Chets Car Care failed to complete a basic repair cost evaluation of my vehicle after three days of holding my car. They stated they would look at my vehicle and charge an estimate cost of approximately $120, which I agreed to. Three days after leaving my vehicle, they had failed to call me with a repair estimate. I had to call them and learned they had failed to complete the entire estimate and had only looked at the brakes which would cost $1600 to repair. It should be noted that they told me they were going to call me the same day with the estimate. It should also be noted that I left a list of three repairs that I needed an estimate on. One of these was the brakes. So, no new information and $120 later, I go to pick my car up after hours. Guess what!? The car was dead due to their negligence. They had failed to keep the hazard light button secure. I left a note to be sure it was secure as it runs the battery down. So then I had to get my car jumped in their parking lot after learning nothing new and wasting my money. Additionally, know that if you plan on leaving your vehicle overnight after a repair, they will charge you a holding fee. I had high hopes for this repair shop because of their reviews but I will never recommend their shop to anyone.

I have mostly used Ford dealerships to maintain my 20+ year old vehicle. recently I had a major rear suspension problem. (Broken leaf spring) My neighbor recommended CHETS . Since its somewhat close to my home, I thought Id give them a try. Not only did they get me in quick, turnaround time was very reasonable, at very fair price. They did a great job !

I depend on Chets to service my car and keep me informed about any upcoming servicing that Ill need - belts, flushes, tire rotation, etc. - just good maintenance practices. The customer service is top notch (Paul, Matt and Eric) are always to friendly and helpful. Ive never had to wait to get my car in for an oil change or repair. Ive been working with Chets for about a year now, after years of loyalty to a dealer shop in town. Chets has been superior in all the ways that count. The staff has consistently gone out of their way to be helpful and accommodating. They have always done repairs and maintenance for less money than the dealership would have charged. Ive confirmed this by getting estimates at the dealership before taking it to Chets. As an added bonus I get to support a local family-owned business that is five blocks from my house. This is care care done right.

I needed a wheel bearing replaced on my 2001 BMW and price shopped around Madison before going with Chets - I am very happy with the work and service.Being an older vehicle they ran into problems getting it apart so it took a while longer than planned. Despite that, they held their price and gave updates as it progressed - I will definitely be coming back.

Due to poor VW craftsmanship, my car needed a new engine. I took it to Chets because they were the most helpful prior to actually seeing the car. That helpfulness last throughout the process of diagnosing and replacing the engine with a newer one. They happily communicated with me via email, which helped me keep track of what was going on and be able to explain to my wife what was going on after receiving each update. Nothing was lost in translation. Will likely go back to Chets for more auto work in the future, if I need it.

I had a coupon for a free oil change years ago, and thought this would be a good place to go for other repairs in the future if I like them. Well, they told me I also needed a new air filter, and offered to replace mine right then, so I agreed, thinking it would only be a small $ amount. So they ended up charging me $20 to replace the air filter! I should have just said, take it back out and put the old one back in, but I was so shocked at the price I never thought of it. So I paid the $20 and never went back. They also could have had another regular customer if they hadnt pulled that on me.

Great, friendly, considerate, and affordable service, plus they have a shuttle! So glad I found this place, Chets will undoubtedly be my go-to shop from now on.

My experience with this car shop was absolutely horrible. My car left sounding worse then when it went in after paying the big bill. We discussed in-depth what the plan was for my vehicle and they did the complete opposite. I discussed with them that I had to work all day and I would like a call when my vehicle is done so I knew everything went well. I dropped off my vehicle at 6am and they did not call me until 10 minutes before they were to close that day. When I went to call there was no answer so I thought no big deal because Paul was suppose to wait for me(discussed prior) so I could at least get my keys for my apartment but guess what? He did NOT wait for me to get there nor did he answer the phone which left me with no vehicle for two days and I was locked out of my apartment because they failed to communicate any change with me. On top of it, they ordered the complete wrong part for my vehicle and yet they left my vehicle just sitting on their lot without calling me:( I unfortunately had no choice but to bring it back to them when they got the right part in and since then my vehicle has not been the same. If I could have given them no stars I would have.

These guys are honest, affordable, and polite. Theyll educate/explain issues and only do what you tell them to if youre on a budget. Highly recommended.

Ive gone here a few times in my younger years, and each time I have been grossly overcharged for the repairs done. My husband however, has no experience with Chets and argued that it was the closest place to have our car towed when it refused to start. It turns out the spark plugs needed replacing (which I also told my husband to check before having it towed). Chets charged us just over $200 to diagnose and replace spark plugs. The spark plugs themselves cost around $50, the rest was labor between figuring it out and replacing. Thank goodness the tow was free from my roadside assistance.

OMG! these guys are amazing! I took my car pretty freaked out because the brake lights were on, Paul calmed me down, topped all my fluids and pumped up my tires and sent me home for free. I was expecting to pay at least 150. Thank you, I just found a new mechanic!

Bad customer service and high prices. It doesnt make for a good combination. I will definitely go elsewhere next time. You would think when they give you an appointment that means they have time to look at your car. Nope! I dropped my car off the night before so they would have it first thing in the A.M. but at 4:30 PM the next day they had not looked at it yet. After a couple calls they finally looked at the car and diagnosed the issue but of course too late to work on it. So a whole day with no car and nothing to show for it.

Absolutely amazing I took my SUV to 7 different mechanics and 2 transmission shops, no one could figure out the problem they nailed it turns out I never needed a new transmission after all do your due diligence alot of shady shops here in wi chets hands down to you thank you.

I apparently cant give a zero or half star, but even one star is too much.I went to Chets recently for help determining why several of my dash lights were on. While the people at the service shop were friendly and they offered a shuttle service back to my place of work, the experience has made me never wish to return. I dropped my car off in the very early morning, right when they opened, and was told it would take an hour to run a diagnostic. I went to work, and waited for their phone call. Four hours later, having not heard anything, I called them and was told that they were still investigating things, and theyd call when it was ready. Two hours after that, beginning to wonder what I would do for a vehicle to get home, I called again and was told they were still running the diagnostic, but that the shuttle could come pick me up. I set up a time for the shuttle, and asked if they had any preliminary ideas about my car; they said they didnt know.The time for the shuttle came and passed - an hour later, it showed up in the midst of rush hour traffic, then proceeded to take the longest route back to Chets. Once I arrived at the service shop, they told me that my 2004 Toyota Avalon fuel filler neck was rusted out and that I would need to get it replaced; oh, and the part and work would total around $700. I thanked them for investigating, gathered my keys, and said I wanted to check one other place for an estimate before I set up the service. Chets then informed me they had cleared the lights off my dash and cleared the codes. They also informed me that they did not feel the vehicle was safe for long distance journeys and that I should not drive it anywhere.Nonetheless, I took my vehicle to a repair shop near my hometown where Ive had it serviced previously. They ran their own diagnostic, inspected the vehicle, read the report provided by Chets, then told me that based on the lights I had reported (since they couldnt read the codes as Chets had cleared them), they thought that my gas cap hadnt sealed properly. They offered to replace the gas cap, but said that since the lights had not returned during my 1.5 hour drive home, that it just needs to be tightened when I fill up. There was nothing wrong with the fuel filler neck, there was no rust anywhere on the car, and the report from Chets was a joke.Not only did Chets waste an entire day running a simple diagnostic, but they clearly made up some imaginary issue hoping I would not do my homework. Fuel Filler Necks on Toyota Avalons are specially coated to prevent rust...while not 100% effective all of the time, my car is not old enough to have completely rusted out. Additionally, they cleared the codes off my dash without talking to me or obtaining my permission, seemingly making it impossible to take it to another repair shop since they would have no information to go off of.I feel they were inefficient, dishonest and conniving. And all of it was done with the sweetest of smiles from every employee at Chets.

Since it was conveniently located near my home, I thought that Id take my car in to Chets. The first time much to my shock and horror my breaks appeared to quit working on my way home from work one day. Well, they fixed the brakes but also suggested an additional mountain of repairs, thousands of dollars, pages long.I had them fix the breaks and told them to hold off on the rest, which seemed to annoy/exasperate the man at Chets I talked to. The next time I go back up to La Crosse, my dad takes it to the mechanic he trusts. The mechanic looks over the suggested repairs says that while in a perfect world, all of these could be fixed, he would recommend maybe one or two. This was not the impression I was given by Chets. At all. This mechanic proceeds to do the repairs at a fraction of the cost quoted by Chets.Fast forward about six months. One of my wheels is making a whirring noise. And when stopped with the front end on a decline (existing the downtown parking ramps), a strong rattling noise has developed in the front. I take it back to Chets thinking well, Ill give these guys one more try. I ask them to check for the rattling and the tire whirring noise and give the car a good overall inspection. Maybe my first less than satisfactory experience was a fluke.I call to see what the mechanics have found. The man I talk to tells me that my tires are cupped and then goes straight into quoting me prices for tire replacements. Fine. Until I think back on it later. He does not tell me A) what could have caused this or B) whether this was safe to drive. I ask what they found regarding the rattling noise. He hems and haws stating that it could be related to one of the fixes the shop recommended six months earlier. Basically, he doesnt know. I say that Ill hold off on the tires for now and to replace the battery if it needs it, replace my cabin air filter and replace my rear upper break light. He sounds frustrated that I didnt decide to make any of the many repairs the shop noted. Theyll need more time to check the battery he says.I go to pick up my car and the man in the office says okay youre car is ready, its $180. Awkward silence ensues. I ask him if I could get a print out of what all what fixed or checked. He proceeds to print four or five pages of all the repairs the shop noted between the two visits. Then his program crashes so he sends me over to the other guy working the front desk. Okay, hes able to get me a print out for the days repairs. He says it will be $160. (Note the mysterious $20 discrepancy). The rear light bulb was not replaced. And I never did find out about the health of my battery, but it shows at least they checked it. So for a $160 I got a changed air cabin filter. And the knowledge that my tire (tires?) are cupped.That will be the last time I take my car to Chets Car Care.

Excellent diagnosis and reasonable prices.

Cost me more than 450 dollar and the problem still not fixed they told me the car is ready and i came along from Ohio to pick up the car and when i test it its still the problem not fixed i spent money on ticket and hotel to wait untill they fix it ant that cost me over 500 dollar.They told me better to change the engine cheaper than changing the part itself. I dont know what should i do with that wasting of money

Good service, but with high prices. I set up my appointment through their website and was contacted in a day. They diagnosed and repaired a dent in my left front wheel backing plate and diagnosed the worn out wheel bearing in my right for $56. They gave me a +$500 quote for the wheel bearing replacement, but I had it replaced instead at Preferred Auto Care in La Crescent, MN for only $240.

GO ANYWERE ELSE!!! i had taken my daughters 2002 camry to chets my daughter said her mom uses chets so she wanted to check them out. because i was 99 percent sure that the right rear caliper was binding. i left it with them to confirm what the problem was. cost was $60.00 to do that. they called me later and said it was the right rear brake caliper binding. i asked how much to replace it and install new pads on both sides. i was told that they wanted to replace the left rear caliper also so i wouldnt have to replace it later. totally unnecessary. i was quoted $850.00!! i told them i would be picking it up. i took it to another shop. caliper $76.00, brake pads $22.00, brake fluid $7.00, [pads installed on both sides.] labor $80.00.[ it took an hour to do it.] chets price including another caliper would have been about $188.00 for parts[ 2 calipers and 2 brake fluids] and $662.00 in labor. their shop rate is $108.50 an hour. so they are charging 6 hours for a job that should only take 2 or less. honest mechanics that i go to are, Badger transmission hwy CV, Dans auto,5514 hwy CV Bauers auto services 5518 hwy CV, Northside automotive 4282 acker rd. Badger transmission could get me in the next day thats were i went. everyone else that i listed are also honest .
