I went to a funeral in Lancaster, CA. My flight arrived late at 830pm. My wife, six year old daughter and I had a two and a half hour wait. Take note that we did have reservations. We left out of Thrifty Car Rental and and did not notice the car as full of ants until we arrived in Lancaster after midnight. Thrifty was close. I called the 800 number the following number and they told me that “I could drive the car an hour and 26 minutes back to LA to get a new one or it will take 5 to 6 hours to get someone out there to clean the car.” I bombed the car myself. Fast forward on the day I left they did not want to really comp me for my trouble and my six year old getting bit all on her legs and inner legs. Then a month later had the audacity to send me $36.00 toll tag. I never rent through them I always do hertz. Trust me, I will never make that mistake of not renting with hertz again.

I rented a car for four days, I had it for 5 and the charged me for a week! They charged me for the key that I took by mistake and was told if I mail it back that they would refund me. 3 weeks later they say they still don’t have the key and I expressed mailed it! They asked me to return it in person and I told them I live out of state and that’s when they said to mail it. Makes no sense they just want to rip people off! I’ve been dealing with this for about a month! They messed up my statement and refunded me $85. My statement was 870.40 after everything. With the wrong charge I should have been at $785.40. I called back to figure out the refund for the key for them to say$141.30! So the $85 refund I got they got back plus the rest! I’m so disappointed as I’ve rented from thrifty in other states with NO problems! They told me to pay the 141.30 in order to get my key refunded. And I have to call in 5 days to see if I could even get it!! I’m so upset I feel like I’ve been robbed! I’ll never rent from them again LAX is the worst!

Renting the car I never have any hassles or experience issues, but It’s the LINES to check in. You’re either incredibly lucky or cursed and will wait in a line that can wrap around the building. I advise booking non refundable in case you arrive and don’t wanna wait and walk over to Hertz. They combine all 3 counters and probably are short staffed due to COVID.

I will NEVER rent a car from Thrifty again. My experience has been a nightmare. I rented a car for one day on 08/20/2021 at LAX and it was returned on 08/21/2021. I waited in line for 3 hours to pick the car up due to long lines. 2 weeks after renting the car, I received an updated invoice stating I was charged another $491 for extended rental. I had the car for one day and my total was $200 which was already paid. I called to figure out what was going on as I do not live in California. Thrifty stated that the car had not been returned. Well, thats not true. I do not live in California and the car was returned on the date of the rental agreement stated 08/21/2021. I also received a threatening letter stating to return the car (THAT I RETURNED ON 08/21/2021) in 10 days or they will be moving forward with charges such as Grand Theft Auto. How horrible and intimidating is this to send a customer who completed their part of a rental agreement, which was to return the car on 08/21/2021. I am now out of $691 because of Thrifty. The lack of following their policies and procedures has caused me to be without MY money, emotional distress and valuable time wasted on the phone trying to get this figured out. ALL to be told I have to wait 7 days for them to do an investigation and watch their cameras. Thrifty is ass-backwards- their investigation should have been done prior to contacting me, sending a threatening letter and going into my account unauthorized. I have also contacted an attorney to look into this as I should not be stressed about a problem I didnt cause. I want ALL my money back plus more. This is not how customers are to be treated. Plus threaten them with a federal charge!! I will make sure everyone knows about this as Im still waiting for a call, email or something.

Now I actually had a great review for LAX and the workers of Thrifty/ Hertz who did an amazing job by getting me into a rental despite the INCREDIBLY long line and wait time. I left my phone in the rental car and the shuttle made sure I got it back instead of having to file a claim. But the one thing I can not tolerate is a thief. And thats exactly what Thrifty did by charging me, not only 500 in a deposit (for debit card) but actually charging me $115 in gas fees even though we brought the car back exactly where the gas was. Reading the fine print that says bring it back to as close as possible or exact. It was on half a tank and thats where we left it. And the receipts inside the vehicle. And of course I didnt get copies of the receipts so Im out of luck. There was nobody to check us into the car to note this. The passenger door opened from the inside when it wanted to. And the passenger tire kept going flat the entire weekend. I will NEVER use Hertz/Thrifty/Dollar or any affiliates associated.

Thrifty and dollar share a space. I waited for 1.5hrs in what I thought was a huge line. Its really hot with no ac and none of the vending machines were working and no where to buy water while you stood in line. Hertz shares the building and pumped their people in and out really really quickly. Their half of the building had a lot of workers and ac. This review gets an extra star because the counter agent was really nice. She said on average Its usually a 5 hr wait to get to the counter. If you want the cheapest rate come to thrifty/dollar. If you value your time spend more and use hertz.

DO NOT RENT FROM THIS COMPANY; rent from enterprise or Hertz!!! The line was absolutely nuts, I never waited this long in line before and apparently it is standard. I got into LAX at around 1-2PM. Waited in line at Thrifty till 6-7PM to get my car rental AND I already reserved online MONTHS in advance, as did everybody else in line too. Also not everybody was wearing masks indoors/outdoors, and it was not being enforced, which was disappointing. I would order from Hertz or Enterprise, because they literally had NO line at all, it was crazy. Saving grace is that the person who served me was really nice and patient. I dont blame the staff but whoever is in charge needs to get their shit together. But I also got charged insurance even when I declined it when I was asked. Called them a bunch of times to see if they could change that but customer service is just disconnected from the actual desk people, so they were no help at all.

I rented my car through price line when I arrived at the counter of thrifty. I was asked about insurance I declined the insurance becaues my personal insurance covers my rentals as well. After showing me the total deposit was $255 I asked why $255 when my deposit is only $200 the agent replied that since I booked through price line I did not pay the taxes for the rental so now she has to charge me. Well after receiving my final recipet through email I was charged for insurance not taxes . I was lied to. After calling priceline they stated I did pay taxes with them. I called thrifty and they said there is nothing they can do about it now since I returned the car already . That is unethical on so many levels.

Performed a bait and switch. Had a rental car fully paid for via hotwire, get to the location to pick the car up and at the register they inform me that they do not take the bank that had paid for the car as payment and also do not have the car they were supposed to be renting. This was not disclosed on any documentation until the 2000+ mile trip was made to California. After a 2 hour wait in their line (its absolutely insane how slowly they process people waiting) they refused to honor the fully paid for reservation, then attempted to rent us a downgraded car at double that price at the register. After complaining to customer service the only thing they would do is refund the fully paid for car, but they stole the money paid for the insurance for the car they refused to rent. After 2 weeks the insurance provider hasnt even responded to attempts to contact. The experience at this rental company was by far the worst part of my trip to California and we saw a store get robbed.

Even 1 star is overrating. Its really unnecessary to wait that long when a lot of us already had reservations and paid, the key is already in the car, theres also a check before you left the parking lot. Will never rent the car from Thrifty again and I learned my lesson, paying a little extra will make my trip happier and easier.

If I could give 0 stars, I absolutely would. My bestfriend and I were visiting from Alabama and paid $350 to reserve a compact vehicle online a week prior to getting to LA. The itinerary I printed out clearly stated Amount due at PICKUP would be $102.92. I paid with my credit card and planned to use it to pay the $102. When I got there, I didn’t mind the 1 1/2 hour wait because it’s LA and busy, understandable. Once I got to the lady, she told me I had to pay $401 on my credit card, which I didn’t have because I budgeted things a certain way. She told me if I was able to get $700 on my debit card, I would be able to come back to her without waiting in line to get my paperwork finished. She also knew we were trying to drive to Portland, OR. It said it on my itinerary/receipt that I printed out and highlighted, plus I verbally mentioned it. We came back after 30 minutes to use my debit card and she wasn’t there. I know people have to use the bathroom, etc so we started over in line because we didn’t want to be a bother to her. Once we got back up to the front, a guy was the person who was “taking care” of me. I explained to him everything the lady and I spoke about and he tried to say $700 MIGHT be enough and that he MIGHT be able to help me. After he saw that the location drop off was in Portland, he told me unless I lived there, I couldn’t drop it off there using a debit card. He was EXTREMELY rude to me and my bestfriend. They basically gave me the run around for 5 hours. We were there from 9:30am - 2:45/3:00pm total. AND NEVER RECEIVED A CAR. I do not recommend using this service.

2 1/2 hour wait in line. Now I see 3 months of reviews saying the same thing. This isnt a fluke, its how they choose to operate this location. Very difficult to hear the agent. It takes roughly 15 to 25 minutes once you are at the desk to get through their rental process. We had nothing to do so we timed it. People tired and frustrated. The agents seem used to this and are nice enough but its just another day for them. No covid protocols enforced. Hertz had twice as many agents. Zero organization. When we were assigned a vehicle it did not match the car on the rental agreement. A random employee in the parking lot told us to take any car and tell them at the gate to do a vehicle switch. Of course there was only one exit gate open. Luckily the agent at gate handled it in 2 minutes. The fleet of cars is all shared with Hertz, Dollar and Thrifty not sure why Hertz agents cant assist with rental. Stay clear of this location.

I called Thrifty and the representative was very unprofessional and rude. She said the card was charged because I did not refill the tank. Locked out, waiting three hours (and counting) for roadside service as I write this. A maddening inconvenience due to Thriftys incompetence. On top of this, they are expecting me to drive all the way back to the airport to swap out the car. A 24-hour car rental company doing this volume of service can afford to dispatch someone from the office with a spare key or vehicle, and not leave customers in the lurch for hours and hours. I understand that sometimes a short staffing situation can cause long wait times, but theres a correct way to go about this and an incorrect way. Waited for nearly 4 hours in a neverending line and not one person came out to explain the situation, they had no signs indicating wait time, nothing. Just get in line and suffer. For a large company like Hertz (which owns Thrifty) to allow this to happen at one of the busiest airports in the country is unacceptable. Fix the situation, Thrifty, because when youre talking about 3-4 hour wait times, that has the potential to ruin someones day, be it a short vacation, a business meeting, etc. and that is not okay.

Its been 16 days since we turned the car back in and we are still waiting for them to release the initial hold for the rental and $500 deposit, but they already got the rental fee. Oh and if you rent from dollar car rental, Thrifty fills those reservations at the LAX location and you are subject to Thrifty rules on debit cards. Always RESERVE at least 2 days in advance and if you can pick up from a location away from the LAX location do that to avoid the lines.

This was the longest line I have ever had to stand for at a car rental! I had a reservation to pick up my rental car but I had to wait in line for 3 hours and 50 minutes! The line (and I couldnt believe it) wrapped around the building! Not only that, thirfty was combined with Hertz and Dollar. And what made it worse, there were only 3 customer representatives open at the counter. I dont blame the representatives behind the counter because I cant even imagine what they are going through, being understaffed, dealing with disgruntled customers due to the long wait, and not getting their breaks. But these 3 companies should of at least provided water to the people waiting in line. The parents with young ones, I felt the worst for. We had to stand outside in the hot sun for 2 hours and then another hour and a half inside. And guess what, the vending machines were not working even to try and get a snack or a drink. It is absolutely dangerous to have people wait out in the hot sun for so long, majority of us are coming straight from the airport. There should have been some warning or message sent to us customers about possible long wait lines. We then could be better prepared to stand in line for almost 4 hours! Also, I work in the Healthcare field and it is dangerous to have sick and elderly people with health issues, have no access to water. Especially if they need to take their medications, etc. I will never again rent at this airport, this was unsafe because people had no access to get basic water and there was no social distancing! This was ridiculous! NEVER AGAIN!

I do not generally write reviews, but I feel this is a PSA for anyone who sees low rates pop up from either Thrifty or Dollar when searching for rental cars out of LAX. We had to wait 3 hours to get our rental car on a recent weekend, and it had nothing to do with low-staffing or computer issues. If you do a quick search on Twitter youll see problems with immense lines of customers going back to at least 2009. On the day I was there with friends to start our LA trip, staff was sending customers to parking spots with no cars or the wrong car or simply running out of cars in certain categories. The person who finally helped us asked me to confirm my address no less than 10 times and then tried to upsell me on a car for 10 minutes. This place is a shitshow and I am writing this review in hopes that you, fair reader, will avoid it in the future. Pay the extra $10 or $20 per day and save a chunk of time that would be otherwise spent in line with children and their parents who are very reasonably stressed out of their minds. Its not worth it.

Incredibly long lines! Multi-hour wait for car pickup in and around a crowded, poorly ventilated building. Zero concern for customer care or safety during the pandemic.

After flying across the country we took a shuttle bus only to find a line wrapped around the building and snake inside of the building twice! Although nearly every counter spot was staffed, the manager made no apologies for the fact that everyone had to wait more than three and a half hours to pick up the rental car! Obviously any family with a child under 3 years old couldnt keep the child from becoming impatient and crying we had at least three different children inline close to us from other families absolutely crying and screaming their heads off because they were either starving or it was nap time. It could not have been any worse! I cant believe Im saying this but this private business makes the D M V look like top-notch service! Someone please remind me, if I ever make the mistake of renting a car from Thrifty again I would be better off walking!

This is the longest line for a rental car Ive ever seen! Its a Thursday afternoon and the line is over 3 hours long (no joke). Ive spent longer waiting in this God forsaken line than I did on my actual flight!

One of the worst car rental experiences of my life. In an effort to save $50 I went with Thrifty Dollar. Unfortunately when we showed up midweek, there was a line around the building and the staff quoted a 2+ hour check in time. We had to Uber instead. Please use Hertz or National, you pay the cost either way. Trust me.

Took 3 hours to get our rental car because the line was incredibly long and it felt like the employee helping us tried to trick us into spending more money. Wouldnt recommend, at least for now.

I literally waited 4+ hours to be seen by the staff. If you want to save your vacation time, please I beg you, DO NOT RENT YOUR CAR from them. I understand that we are under pandemic and ppl dont want to come back to work, but the Hertz rental that was right next to them had enough staff to get ppl in and out very quickly. Please do not use thrifty Or dollar, unless you want to feel miserable.

The wait for this car company which also includes Hertz and dollar car rental were insane. They should have a better system that can handle the load.

Avoid if at all possible, took 90 minutes to get a car that had been prepaid for. Clerks were nice but knew nothing of company policies and the information provided at check did not match the original at booking. Managers refused to even talk to us directly.

This place was ridiculous. We had to wait 2 hours and 20 minutes in line. If we hadnt paid in advance and it was nonrefundable, we would have gone somewhere else. Then of course they tried to upsell us. He was not very friendly and never once apologized for our wait. The only reason they got the second star is they did come around with free bottled water while we were standing outside in the hot sun.

There was no sense of urgency with any of the employees. Waited in line for over an hour at midnight! If you want a company who respects your time and wants to help you get on with your trip, then dont choose Thrifty car rentals in LA. You will regret it as waiting will drain your soul of any hope you had of having a good trip.

Thr fact I rent alot I know what cars are what. Then Ive called for 3weeks about keys left...that were connected to the rental car keys. Ive YET to receive a call back.

3 hours in line waiting for a car. The line is longer than when we came. I tried to enroll in their curbside, pass the line program but their computer program sucks. This is not customer service. This is a joke. Their behavior is offensive.

Terrible service on top of a long wait! I asked for basic coverage and when I called to have my rental extended for 1 extra day, I found out from the representative over the phone that the representative at the counter added EVERY insurance they had to offer & it made my rental cost rough an extra $100.00 a day. When asked could I remove the extra insurance, I was told over the phone that I would have to go inside the branch. MAKE SURE YOU REVIEW YOUR POLICY BEFORE YOU EXIT THE PREMISES WITH YOUR VEHICLE. It appears that they are running a bait & hook scam at this location and I fell for it.

Arrived at 12 noon at the thrifty car rental center at LAX. I have been waiting in line for 2 hours and have still not been serviced. Honestly. What was hertz, dollar and thrifty think when they combined their service at this center. Lines wrap around the center waiting to get in. Inside the center processing is so slow!! I can not believe that during this time of recovery thry could not value the service customers give them. If I was them I would close up shop in shame and admit that they do not know how to run a service business

Supposed to pick up a car with a reservation at 11:30 AM on 6/7/21. Arrived at 11:15 AM and joined the long line snaking outside the building onto the roadway. It took 2 hours to get to the counter. There was a person trying to manage the line and she said its always like that at Thrifty/Budget unless you get there at 6 or 7 in the morning. Ive been using Thrifty for years. Never again.

Only way to do anything useful is by calling their support line which takes a minimum of 10 minutes for someone who does not have a good handle on the english language to place a rental order for you.System went down when I went to pick up the car, obligating me to have to travel out of my way to get a certain insurance that I needed. The final price for only 2 days of renting a lower priced car was very expensive.Front desk people were nice, except for the manager.

And the award for the BEST car rental place we’ve EVER rented from goes to...*and we rent a lot of carsWe booked online and chose a mid size SUV.When we showed up, they had a really limited selection of cars in our section. After joking around about an upgrade to a convertible, we walked out to the floor and the girl told us we could choose from the mustangs!!!I asked about the convertible 5.0 and she said “Sure”They didn’t have a lot of colour options, so she led us outside to see a few more.None of the keys were in the cars, so the hope of getting the one I wanted faded.Until Danny came out with the keys to the exact car I wanted. This was the icing and cherry on top of our entire vacation!!!Guess who will be coming back to this thrifty, every time we’re in California!!!

Thrifty service couldnt be worse. Price of rental is sneaky as fees cost far more then price shown in larger print. checkout service was terrible, they refused to add my wife as driver saying it wasnt required.. I spoke to duty manager who said her name was Trisha Smith and she couldnt care less about the customer. Then I went to the assigned car and it was in shambles, leather had foot long rips, large dent s and scratches in all quadrants. Thankfully I noted all on contract but I wonder how many get charged for old damage.
