I paid $62 to have someone break my truck.I had it on my days to-do list to get my smog check done, but it was after 4:00 in the afternoon and most places around me were almost closed. This place was listed as being open until 6:00 so I took a chance.When I pulled in there was one employee there and he told me hed be right over. After a few minutes he came over to ask what I needed. I told him smog check and he asked me the year of my truck, whether the check engine light was on and whether the battery had been recently disconnected. I answered: 1997, no check engine light, and no the battery hadnt been disconnected. He asked me if I was sure, I answered yes. He said hed have to check because he couldnt run the test if the computer had any codes being thrown. He got his code reader and hooked it up to the port and he verified that indeed the computer was clear and all the drive-cycle checks had cleared. He told me the test costs about $70, takes 20 minutes and I could wait in the waiting area (which was around the wall and actually quite nice: an outdoor wooden bench underneath a tree).$70 sounded a bit high, but I was in $Hollywood$, hadnt done any shopping around and I really wanted to get it done that day. I agreed and went to go sit and wait and he started the smog test.My truck is a manual, which of course nobody knows how to drive, and he struggled a bit pulling the vehicle into the dyno area. I heard him pop the hood and I assume he did the visual check because it was a few more minutes until I heard the engine rev up for the speed tests. He lugged the engine pretty bad quite a few times. I dont know how much resistance gets put into the dyno rollers, but it sounded like if someone who doesnt really know how to use a clutch was trying to drive up a really steep driveway with a heavy load. I dont think he stalled it, but it was close numerous times. My truck is old and high miles, but it doesnt spew smoke. Yet the tester was able to lug it enough to billow exhaust. Not good.My truck has passed smog the past 4 years with no problems. 6 years ago it was failing and I went through everything thoroughly and eventually got it to pass. I havent seen the check engine light since then. Anyway, I could tell he finished the testing when I heard my hood slam shut (I sure dont slam anyones hood down like that...) He came around the wall and told me he was done, that my truck failed the test and that hed talk to me about it in the office.We went into the office and he said it failed NOx at 15 mph. I wasnt too surprised, as that test was borderline 2 years ago at my last smog and I figured then that I soon needed a new cat converter. I asked some questions about what else it might be, and he was nice enough to indulge me and answer mostly along the lines of that could be it, but of course I cant say for sure without looking further into it. It ended up being $8 less than quoted for having failed, and he let me know there isnt any free retest, as I see advertised from a lot of other places. I was a little disappointed to hear that. He handed me my paperwork and told me that the keys were in the ignition.I drove away and made it about a block when I looked at my dash and was surprised to see that the check engine light was now on! I drove around the block and back into the parking lot and I asked the mechanic if he had any idea why my check engine light had turned on. I asked him if he had pulled any vacuum lines or messed with any of the plugs to the sensors and he said no, he just did a visual inspection and ran the test. He was a little dismissive. I asked him if he would at least use his computer to tell me the failure codes and he agreed and told me the code. I looked under the hood for any visual cues, but nothing jumped out as being out of place. I realized I wasnt going to get any more help as the mechanic was eager to get back to his other work.Now I have to figure out what went wrong and try and fix whatever was broken or disconnected from the rough treatment.

Just moved to LA and I found my car guys.These guys were fast and efficient but didn’t sacrifice quality. They fit me in quickly as a walk-in for a smog check. They don’t have bargain basement prices, but they have excellent coupons on their website that they applied to my service even when I didn’t bring it in.They didn’t try to con me or talk down to me because I was a woman.Went back the next week because I needed my oil changed. Very competitive prices on that, no up-selling like at chain stores, and once again quality work. I don’t have the equipment to service my own car, but my dad does and he taught me how to change my own oil. From the waiting area I covertly watched them to judge them because I had never been there before, they’re A+.These guys are trustworthy, competitively priced, and do good work. What more can you ask for?

Armen is a very straight forward guy, he did a diagnosis & a ton of quality work on my car , Including some stuff that had to be outsourced ,within hours. We showed up at 10:30 on a Sunday morning and they serviced me right away. Pulled up and we were immediately handed a newspaper. You stay in your car while they service everything and they let you watch from the cameras on the left hand side of the car.

I came here for the required smog check to renew my registration and I was pleasantly surprised.The place is very clean and organized, the price was right (plus I had a coupon!) and the gentleman that helped was very polite, as well as efficient. This is a STAR station that does smog & repair. The guy says $80 + certificate fees, 35 minutes. An hour later, he says the car didnt pass, and he doesnt work on my type of car to make it pass, I have to go elsewhere. Thatll be $80.They are a Smog & REPAIR station, not Test ONLY. He should have told me up front he wouldnt be able make any adjustments if the car didnt pass.Excuse me, but at the time your guy said the car didnt pass, i asked about making repairs and was told you didnt do them and was referred to Pinkys. Pinky said they would have to do a full tune up but that i should go to smog and repair station and recommended you. i came back and asked why i was told you didnt do repairs? i did not ask you to illegally pass my vehicle. Your report says the car failed due to the Ignition Timing Check being out of tolerance. Having had this car smogged several times in the past, the low numbers indicate that the timing is off and i asked if you could adjust the timing, which is what the car has needed in the past. There is nothing illegal about asking if you can correct a timing problem.BUT, your guy should have said up front, WE DO NOT REPAIR old VWs. i would have gone elsewhere.

Their coupon on their website says $39.95 for cars 1996 and newer, but no other details. I have a 1991 BMW, so I phoned to ask how much. I was quoted $95.00 !! Youre not getting my business. Why 55 dollars more?
