Hands down the most honest, respectful and trustworthy mechanic I have found in over 15 years!I live in oregon and was in Lakewood visiting family when my check engine light came on. Knowing I had a 6 hour drive home in two days, and it was a holiday weekend, I had to put my trust in someone. Will fit me into his busy schedule, ran my diagnostics, took the time to explain everything to me, including recommendations for future maintenance. When I need work done on my vehicle, I will be bringing it back here to Will.

This shop is great for its size. Will is a fair and honest mechanic. When I go to 5 Star I feel like Im not being ripped off. Will seems happy with his job and it shows. They are patient and will answer questions. I could go on all day. Either way this is a great shop.

Top of the line service

I had my car towed to 5 Star General Auto Repair because it would not start, and they do all my oil changes. I thought the starter needed to be fixed, but after doing a free diagnostic it was a much more serious problem. Ernesto showed me that the engine was seized, and would not turn over because of what they called a hydro lock. I saw antifreeze in the cylinders. I dont know a lot about cars so I thought it would be going to the junkyard, but Will offered to replace the engine with a new or used one. His quote was a better value than a couple other places I called, and all parts and labor were warrantied so I told them to put in the used one. Two weeks later I had my car back running better than ever. The replacement engine had lower miles than the car has, and runs great. I trust them and will go there for everything from now on. They earned my business by turning my lemon into lemonade. Thanks guys!

Was there to have AC checked. He put car into bay and after a few minutes he came into the office/waiting area and told me that the AC system needed to be flushed. That the system was over pressured so he bled down some of the Freon. Not just checking the system and telling me what needs to be done, but draining the system so it wouldnt function at all. Then he explained to me that the vehicle on the other rack had to have the system flushed and while doing that, he found bad hoses. Had to change other parts on AC system also.I told him to let me have my car, not knowing I had NO ac at this time. He smiled and said that when I am ready for him to FIX it, to just come on back in. I had already told him that I was from out of town and just passing through. The arrogance and assurance that I would be back was obvious.I brought the car to a dealer a few days later. They checked the system and brought the Freon level back up to par and told me that flushing the system wasnt needed if the system hadnt be contaminated or opened. Mechanic was just ripping people off with their ignorance of AC systems.I would not recommend this shop for an oil change...

Not recommended.Went in to replace a starter, and was given a clean bill of health for 6 months before additional engine work would be needed.It broke down again and needed to be towed within 5 hours. Did not even make it from Lakewood to Tacoma and back.Took it back, used engine replacement would cost $2000.I was quoted at 10 hours, but when I went in to pay, it turned in to 1 month...Also completely unapologetic about how little time it took for the vehicle to completely break down again.Probably best for small fixes, or tune ups, but not recommended for serious repairs.

Around the 23rd of May, me and my wife was having problems with our car so we took it to 5 star general auto repair in Lakewood wa. We went to get a diagnostic and paid $75. We were told and we’re given a document with only two problems to our car. We need the throttle body replaced and also the catalytic converter fixed. We were told the catalytic converter was not an immediate issue. So we went ahead and paid $500 to fix the throttle body. The car ran fine the whole next day. Then it started having the same symptoms as before, so we brought it back. The mechanics looked at the car and said it was actually a hose we need to replace but in the first diagnostic there wasn’t a mention of any hose. They only charged us $20 for the part and went ahead and fixed it. The car was working fine until August 30 when the car out of nowhere stop running. I was with my son and we were stuck on the side of the freeway. I had no one to call besides the police, the police called a tow truck for me which costed $430. And my son and I was driven home. I called 5 star and asked them if they can look at my car because there was supposed to be a warranty but they said they would have to charge me $75 more for another diagnostic. I called meineke and they told me to bring it in for a free diagnostic. I then towed it to Meineke. Which cost me a $107. They looked at everything and told me the car engine blew up. They said I needed a tune up. I honestly am in unbelief that is all I needed to begin with and was not told by 5 star auto repair. My son and I was put in danger , my wife was put in danger all because of a misdiagnosis. I am asking for a refund on my diagnostic fee and repair cost. This is outrageous!

Will the mechanic helped out a bunch. Had to make a insurance claim and he went above and beyond handling the claim, repair and keeping me informed. Definitely would recommend.

Our trucks fuel pump went out the day I was released from giving birth to my son. Thankfully these guys were across the street and got the job done a bit later that day. Weve since taken our GMC and Geo there and theyve always been knowledgable, resourceful, informative, and polite.

Will and Ernesto are both really good mechanics and changed my truck starter changed when it when out after I finished pumping gas. They also have done all my oil changes since 2015 because they carry AMS oil and are really fast. I trust these guys with my 1996 GMC any day.

I had problems with an alternator drive belt. Pulled in off the freeway and was fortunate enough to discover 5 Star. They went out of their way to fix my problem. I would highly recommend their Auto Repair. Thanks.

Well its such a great mechanic he fix my Land Rover in no time and the price is fair this is my second time coming to this location and I will definitely recommend will as a mechanic he makes sure he breaks everything down into detail telling you whats wrong with your vehicle!

EXTREMELY unprofessional. Car was brought in for two problems. Fixed one, took the money for two, caused a third problem, then pointed us to another Mechanic!?! If you were not confident in your ability to fix my car maybe you should have not offered your services. When voicing our concerns Will was extremely disrespectful and demeaning. Don’t bother with this shop unless your interested in gambling with your car and money.

I had my car replaced No. 3 ignition coil there, but turn out they changed No. 2 by mistake. When I confronted they, they refused to admit that and there attitude are very bad.
