I got my dress back from Davids Bridal 1 week before my daughters wedding. The dress was extremely to long. Needless to say I was in a panic. I took my dress into Shirleys and they were extremely polite, professional and FAST! They told me my dress would be ready in 3 days, within a few hours of dropping it off they called and said it was ready! It was fixed to perfection! They literally saved the day for me! THANK YOU!!

Dropped husbands dress whites and blues off for patches and press before a funeral.They were supposed to take off the old rocker from his last command and put on the new one as well as put on his blood stripe for his service years.They didn’t remove old rockers and put the new rockers onto the other sleeve. They ironed on the rocker patch onto the wrong sleeve making removal impossible without destroying the blouses.They put the service red stripes down too far on the arm and sewed them over a twisted pleat. Railroad tracking the blouse sleeves and thus making it impossible to ever be able to recover the correct pleating.The blouses are absolutely ruined!

If youre looking for a military tailor or a glorified plaque shop, this is your place. If youre looking for someone to take real care and perform repairs on a sentimental piece, dont bother. They are very good at what they do, possibly the best in town, but they certainly work in their comfort zone with no interest to help in projects outside of their norm.

Huge shoot out to Shirleys. I needed a dress uniform restriped for a funeral. It was very last minute (told a little over 38 hours within going home) and they were able to get it done for me the same day! And they didnt charge an extra fee for expedited service. Im so truly grateful for their help, they definitely went above and beyond! Ill be a customer here from now on!

Great service only complaint I have is I got a clean and press on a jacket and it wasnt fully clean upon receipt other wise it was perfect

Ive been getting my alterations done at Shirleys for 20 years. Just last year my husband retired and we moved to Virginia. I still take my alterations to Shirleys. They have always done excellent work. My husband also used her shop for his medals, uniforms and his civilian clothes.I have recommended her shop to friends and co-workers for years.I appreciate the sacrifice that her business makes for our military and for the community.

They over charged me. They didnt have the equipment needed to preform the task. & they sewed on my uniform out of regulations. It was a hassle doing business with them. Kats Alterations was way better.

This place is absolutely ridiculous on their policy for farewell gifts! Tried to order a mini version of our unit colors with streamers to place in a going a way gift we built. Their ridiculous policy requires me to purchase the entire display which is nothing like what we have designed. $370 is the cost with the display which I don’t need. Talk about a waste. I’ll never come back to this place for any business and hope they eventually come to their senses!

(( Dropped of shirts on 3/23 and finally got them back on 4/26))I took about 8 of my husbands BRAND NEW DESIGNER DRESS SHIRTS valued at $100.00+ each to have his initials put on his sleeves. I asked to make sure they were familiar with how to do it, and I was assured that they knew what to do. Needless to say, when I picked up the shirts 2 WEEKS later, the initials were in the wrong place on the sleeves!! So they said, sorry and that they would take that stitching out and move the initials over to the correct place on the sleeves. So then we had to wait another 2 weeks for them to fix their mistake. All in all, that was a bad call, because the holes from the previous stitching mistake was purely visible. THE SHIRTS LOOKED HORRIBLE!!! Keep in mind these were NEW designer dress shirts, mostly Calvin Klein & Michael Kors and now they totally have screwed them up!!!!! THEN TO TOP IT OFF.... When I go back A MONTH LATER to pick up the last 3 of the botched shirts they have been trying to fix, they give them to me without any plastic covering and they look as if they have been just laying around the shop because they were wrinkled and one had a small dark wet spot on the back of one shirt, like a soda dripped on it or something. After I expressed my irritation about the spot and them being wrinkled.... she had the nerve to say... Show me the spot, and I will send it to be pressed and cleaned. I said, ARE YOU KIDDING ME!!! No Maam you will not keep these shirts another day!! Needless to say... THE WHOLE EXPERIENCE WAS A HUGE DISAPPOINTMENT!!!! I will NEVER go back and you shouldnt either!!!

I consistently go there for all my jeans, pants, and clothing. Very reliable, on time, and everything has always came out perfectly... I would recommend then to anyone.

Went there for alterations, hoping for a quick turn-around. Hoped for at least a day or so, but these wonderful ladies had me ready to go, same day! Would definitely recommend this shop to others!

I have used their services several times but my most recent experience has convinced me never to use them again. I dropped off 4 pair of scrub pants to be hemmed on 6/4/16 and was promised they would be ready for pickup at 6pm on 6/6/16. When I arrived for pickup at the agreed upon time I was informed that the seamstress was not finished. I was directed over to the seamstress workstation only to find not only was the job not finished but it had yet to be started. None of the 4 pairs of pants had been hemmed. I needed at least 1 pair for work the next day and had to wait 20 minutes in order to take 1 of the 4 pair home with me. Needless to say I was quite late for a 6:30 appointment that evening. I was told by the clerk I could come back on 6/8/16 to pick up the remaining pants. When I returned I did not receive an apology or any recognition of the inconvenience they had caused. When I politely asked if they were even going to offer some type of compensation for my inconvenience I was told No. Accidents happen. It was at this point that I realized my business is obviously not at all important to them and I have decided to take my business elsewhere.

Quick turn around time and they can do everything from alterations to kill patches

This shop is great if you need alterations done on your uniforms or clothing, but I do not suggest for you to go here if you need cleaning/pressing done. Their pricing is fair and you get what you pay for. I still use this shop regularly myself

Over two weeks ago my daughter a student at ECU dropped off her Ball Dress to be altered. She called last week to see if it was done and they indicated they had not done anything with it yet. My daughter explained she was flying out to California and needed it as soon as possible. Shirley told her to have her mother pick it up without even knowing weather her mother lived here or not. My daughter told her that that was not right to say something like that . My daughter is 20 years old. So my daughter called her back and explained that she was insulted by what she said. Shirley said that she didnt mean to offend her but the dress would be ready on the 23rd by 6PM. My daughter drove the 2 hours from Greenville today to pick up her dress and it had not even been touched yet. Poor Customer service. I will spread the word that Shirleys is not the place to go to have alterations done. Shame on her for treating people like that.

Unlike some other comments, Ive never had any problems at Shirleys. Their customer service is great, they do great quality work, and Shirley seems to know a lot about everything alteration-type. Ive taken in a variety of clothing, from ball gowns to bras, and shes never had a problem fixing any of my tricky alterations, and all in a timely manner.They also do a great job with military alterations. My husband was there for four years, and never went anywhere else for his clothing needs. They have a great turn around for nametapes on cammies, and everything has been great when we left. One time my husbands new Blues coat, after being altered, was still not a perfect fit. We told her our ball was that weekend, and she went out of her way to do it herself and finish it by the following evening.I wouldnt go anywhere else, and Ive recommended her to everyone whos looking. Dont go anywhere else! Great work, great service, great prices.

Lied straight to my face after I heard them say they never asked the beard worker about my dress. Had me waiting from last week Wednesday for a phone call and never called or even touched my dress. Never ever going to Shirleys again. If no star was an option I would of picked that.. also terrible customer service. I understand theyre busy because of the Balls coming up but to lie to my face is another.

Best alterations in town

I dont know about uniform alterations, but DO NOT get a framed guidon made here. The quality is horrible. Letters do not line up and theyre different sizes. Finished product looks like a 6 year old arranged the lettering and sewed it. Super expensive and not worth it, almost embarrassed to give it as a gift but no other option at this point.

Took my dress in 3 weeks before my husbands ball date to get it HEMMED. Overheard the staff telling other customers that their alterations would be done in just a few days after they had brought it in. They asked for our ball date, noted it, and then was told to pick my dress up 2 days before the ball after 6pm and MUST I REMIND YOU THEY CLOSE AT 7. 1 week after I dropped my dress off, I called to get a price, at first they couldnt find it, and once they did, they told me it would cost me $60 to cut a dress. I get there to pick my dress up at 6 and then was told that pickup isnt until AFTER 6 and it wouldnt be ready until 630-ish (again they close at 7). So I would have a 30minute window gap to pick my dress up. Wont be going here anymore.

Ive been going here for 5 years and never had a problem, if I did it was promptly fixed. I always recommend this alteration and embroidery business.

Never will i go back this is the 2nd time they have not had my stuff ready when they said it wod be done they had my dress for 1 week and 2 days just to fix the sleeves for 12.00 and i had told them i needed it for friday today for a wedding tomorrow then the guy talked to me down and told me i need to respect his workers remind u i was not outraged i was talking very calm i sure do miss the older owner i have been taking my things there since i was 16 so for 18 years now i will now go to kims alterations

I have been taking my uniforms and my marines uniforms to Shirleys for the past 3 years and have never had a problem. If I need a rush order on something they meet the time frame.

About 2 weeks ago, I took my gown here for my fiance s MC Ball out in Cali. on Nov. 3rd. I called her shop Oct. 20th to verify when to pick the dress up & take off work since I live 2 hours away. First off, my family owned a business & I ve worked customer service jobs, so organization is important. She had an attitude right off the bat because she had look for the ticket. Second, I told her the dress was baby blue. She found the ticket & said Oh no it s turquoise. No mam , it s baby blue. Then she dared to ask me Honey, does your MOTHER have it? Um, I am a grown woman & just because I said I m a college student you ll assume my business had anything to do with her? Lady, you don t know if my mother is dead, if she s around, you can t assume a young lady depends on her mother to do her chores. I said, My mother wouldn t have it. She began to argue with me, so I hung up on her. I took a couple moments to calm down & called back to complain. I did & asked for the owner. I learned that the lady who argued, insulted me, & undermined my business was Ms. Shirley herself. I told Ms. Shirley how she offended me & that I m the customer so it isn t my fault that the business is unorganized or that you got irritated to look for the ticket. She began to argue. Fourth, don t argue with the customer. She told me the dress will be ready 6 pm Oct. 23rd, like the ticket said & to avoid driving 2 hours to find the dress unprepared come the 24th. Today is the 24th. I am a college student taking 17 s.h & working 20-40 hours, so I took the suggestion. I drove down today & came in at approximately 4:30 pm. I handed a young lady my ticket, she located my dress, handed me my dress, & said, Thank you . I asked her, Could I try it on so I can make sure it fits? Another lady said, We didn t make any alterations. Okay, STOP. WHAT? I asked, & why haven t any alterations been made. She began reading off of their copy of the ticket & said that, After you called us we were told not to make any alterations because time was an issue. I said, When I called, I called to make sure when I came down the dress will be finished. Then the lady said, It also says here you hung up on Ms. Shirley & she told you to come pick it up the Saturday you called. By this time I was heated. I said, Mam , I was never informed about this because I would not have drove two hours just to show up & learned that my dress wasn t ready. She said, Let me get Ms. Shirley. Apparently Ms. Shirley had been listening this whole time. So she was already walking towards the front. She said, I heard the whole thing. I asked her, Why isn t my dress altered? She said, Because you said it wouldn t be enough time. I said, Mam , it s been 2 weeks & the whole reason why I called was to verify a time that I could come down & pick it up so it would be ready. She said, I told you to come pick it up on Saturday. I said, I was never informed of that information. If I was, I wouldn t have drove all the way down here. She said, Well you hung up on me. I said, I m sorry that I hung up on you, but I called back because I wanted to inform you of the poor customer service & your rude comment about my mother. You don t even know if my mother is alive! She said, I don t know why you would be offended by that because I have college students come down all the time whose mothers... I said, I told you I would be down the 24th like YOU told me. She continued to argue with me & her story of telling me to come pick it up continued to change. She said, I m not altering it. I said, Fine, & I m not ever coming back here because of your horrible customer service. I ll make sure I spread the word. She rolled her eyes & said, That s fine. It all happened with customers in her store & a Help Wanted Sign in the window. I m reporting her & I suggest anyone who experienced her horrible service & attitude to do the same.

If I could give zero stars, I would.Ive brought my boyfriends uniforms in twice, the second time I was trying to give them a chance to redeem themselves. HORRIBLE customer service, sloppy work, and chevrons not sewn on to regulation standards. I will never go back and Ill never recommend this place to anyone.
