Public service announcement: Spend your money elsewhere! Spent $88 for 2 people and only spent 1 1/2 hours on the water. I am pretty sure you have to be an Olympian to kayak up stream with the current. We didn’t even make it to a beach before we had enough torture. Definetly do not recommend.

I know theyre known for their kayaks, but the bikes were more our speed for the day and it was an excellent day. She suggested some awesome sites to bike to and they werent too far away. Highly recommend biking to the dead tree beach. These folks were salt of the earth wonderful people! If you need a bike or a kayak, be sure to stop there! We had a wonderful Kayak tour with CJ today! He is very knowledgeable about the area, and has a degree in environmental science. If you want more than just paddling around, this is the place to go! We arrived, got a quick but informative class on how to paddle the kayak, fitted the boats and off we went. We were with the tide the whole way, so trip was very easy. I found it relaxing. About halfway through the trip we stopped on a beach and had a swim and delicious chocolate chip cookies! When we got back to the shop theres showers and a restroom to use, so you might want to bring a change of clothes in case you are still wet from swimming. Overall it was a very enjoyable way to spend the day. Thanks again for a wonderful time CJ and the rest of the Kayak Amelia crew!

4 of us went on a kayak eco tour with CJ. Rented 2 sit in yaks and brought 2 of our own. CJ was very knowledgeable about the birds, vegetation, and history of the area around Fort George River area. Rode with the tide up to home port, Kayak Amelia. About a 3 hour paddle. Beautiful day and weather was very cooperative. Loved our mid-point snack too!! Definitely recommend this outfit. My husband and I enjoyed a beautiful morning kayaking with CJ. It was very windy and would have made it difficult to paddle back from the planned destination. CJ rolled with it and suggested an alternative plan that worked out great. We thoroughly enjoyed the trip as CJ shared tidbits of facts about the area, wildlife and ecology, as well as Ray’s famous chocolate chip cookies. We saw an osprey, turtle, brown pelicans & various other birds. All in all an enjoyable trip. Thanks CJ for a nice morning!!

Hands down this is where you need to book water adventure in Amelia. I didnt catch the owners names but they were clearly river pros and so incredibly friendly. My partner and I were visiting from Chattanooga TN and are experienced freshwater kayakers; the best thing about Kayak Amelia is they offer guided tours, sure, but if you dont want your hand held the whole time they definitely give you the independence to check out what you want. We went on the North Route towards the Sound and... wow. Saw at least a billion fiddler crabs, 1 large blue crab, 1 horseshoe crab in a shallow portion, and what I believe was a juvenile blacktip shark jump up that jumped up near a muddy oyster bank. No shortage of wildlife, which was our primary goal.

We went kayaking yesterday to get some fresh air, do some social distancing, but still occupy 4 kids who were already stuck here from Michigan before the self quarantining began. The staff was awesome! They had the main shop blocked off to keep it virus free and everything was kept clean and separated. They made some very bored kids (and adults) super happy! Great recommendations based off the tide and wind directions as well. I love to support small business especially when theyre as awesome as these guys!!

The float along Simpson creek through the salt marsh to the Fort George river is gorgeous and well worth the time it takes. There are plenty of spots to slow down and enjoy as well as some some small beaches along the way to relax on so plan on a half day. The website warns boaters that there will be a a tide to paddle against (along with the wind...you are on the coast) and it is true so expect to expend some effort. We had a great time doing a self guided tour, but wish the sea kayaks were available to self guided renters as they are for guided tours. Heads up....he kayak you will be renting for a self guided tour is essentially a floating tub that does NOT track well or fast in those conditions, and is very susceptible to wind. So, do not expect the slick, fast touring kayaks you see on the website if you are not on guided tour. If you want to maximize you experience take the guided tour or bring your own touring kayak and pay a small launch fee.Pros: Beautiful, scenic float with plenty to see. Great, helpful, and energetic staff.Cons: The self guided rental kayaks are NOT ideal for the conditions you can expect. Smaller paddlers will have a hard time with tides and the wind. This significantly diminished what could have been a much better experience. Correcting this issue would ensure a 5 star review from me.

The great thing to do. We were looking for some outdoor activities in JAX area with my girlfriend and we found Kayak Amelia. As we have no experience with sea kayaking (we were kayaking on the river only before) we booked the guided tour. And it was amazing. The guides were funny, but educative at the same time. The owner is super friendly and helpful! The kayaks are a bit clunky and heavy but the paddles are lightweight. As you paddle through the salt marsh, youll see lots of different kinds of birds like great blue herons, tricolor herons, great egrets, etc.Its best to time your trip to go out and back with the tide if possible. If youre new to kayaking, try a guided trip where youll get a basic paddling lesson. If you have any experience at all, the self guided trip is fine because the owner will give you lots of information on where to go and lend you a map.

Wow! The Segway off-road tour was awesome! Our guide Buddy was entertaining, helpful, knowledgeable and a lot of fun! This tour is great and you don’t have to actually have to stay in a resort to do it like the one other tour I saw from one other place. It was unique and surprisingly easy to learn! These have slightly bigger tires which means you experience more than just straight asphalt. Nothing scary, though! Also, it is not actually located on Fernandina Beach or Amelia Island, it’s just a short hop away but the view to get there is one of the prettiest and most stunning views we saw while we were there. Thank you for a great tour! We will do this again and would recommend this for anyone.

The little gift shop is really nice and the staff is very friendly! Definitely made sure we understood the map and were safe. However, we were looking to find of of the sand beaches that were on our map or on the internet. The one sand beach was literally a 4 meter stretch. So park a couple of kayaks there and you dont have a beach left. The other sand beach was crowded with boats and loud music (they warned us this would happen). So not idyllic at all. And no, sand beach is definitely an exaggeration. The kayaks themselves had no working food rests and the seating was very low - so in a comfortable hand position youd hit your hand on the rim of the kayak. We had to carry our kayak to and from the water which was very heavy for me (especially after coming back when it slowly filled with water.)In conclusion: the people were really nice and tried to be helpful. The homepage is misleading. Its not the best scenery for kayaking, in my opinion.

They do a wonderful job sharing their love of kayaking and the outdoors. The customer service was outstanding. The location and weather not so much. There are so many places in florida and even on/near Amelia Island that are much more beautiful and have much more wildlife than this location. A great trip to get out and explore the waterways between the Atlantic Ocean and Jacksonville. The staff was extremely friendly (including the lovely Burmese Mountain dog behind the front desk!) and the equipment was in good condition. They had a nice little parking lot and facilities for us to prepare for our excursion. We were able to decide which route we wanted to take that day, so we headed out to explore. No dolphins, but TONS of birds and fish flew through the air around us. There were a number of great stops where we could pull over to rest or take photos. Terrible service and high rates. The kid Tristin that gives you your (in my case ) paddle board is lazy and ONLY gives you your board. He doesn’t help you to the water with it even if you are struggling. If you don’t put it back in the exact spot he will ask you to pick it up and move it. I heard him ask a older woman to do this and it was 2 feet from where he thought she should put it... I put mine down wrong and he asked me not to do it again... like I would be back... this could be a nice place and I get charging more Because this is a touristy location but it’s almost double that of what it is in Tampa.

We had a wonderful day with Kayak Amelia. The marshes were so much fun to explore. The staff all took a naturalist course so they could help us understand all sorts of details about the wonderful birds, plus things like how the grasses are able to thrive in such salty water. The customer service was excellent. Our kayak tour guides were Mike and Buddy, both great company and full of interesting knowledge. Buddy took a bunch of pictures and they were immediately posted to Kayak Amelias Facebook, so you can leave your camera in the car and still have a memento. The pace was enough to get a workout, but plenty of chances to rest, watch the birds, and even stop for a swim. They lead you in the direction of the tide and then pick you up with a van, so that made it more relaxed.Plus they have a fantastic location. After the tide went out, from their shore we saw a whole party of shorebirds, including a roseate spoonbill, a couple white pelicans, a cormorant, and a tri-colored heron.

All of the guides are experienced and certified, and they provide you with a wonderful intro to the world of paddling before you set out so that you can be relaxed and comfortable out on the water. They have an immense amount of knowledge about the area and local wildlife, plenty of which youll see as you make your way through the gorgeous state park.
