I’ve been using Highland Park Automotive since about 2013 when I first moved to the town. Always high quality & honest service, would highly recommend. Literally the only repair shop I have been to in the last decade where it doesn’t feel like they’re trying to sell you something additional or add fluff to the repairs to drain your wallet. Still come here even after I moved out of town.

Duane is the best! I recently got myself a collector’s car that still needed quite a bit of work. Duane did a full inspection and was very communicative throughout the whole process. Now my car is running perfectly!

HIGHLAND PARK AUTOMOTIVE fixed my engine light problem and did a well diagnostic analysis to see where the problem was coming from. Previously I went to Mavis auto center where they couldnt fix my car. Since HIGHLAND Park Automotive use the same Synchrony bank that Mavis uses, therefore I was able to use that same credit card to get my vehicle fix at HIGHLANDPark. The only good thing that came out of Mavis, I used their credit card that they forced on me to apply and now I able to use it at HIGHLAND PARK AUTOMOTIVE

If u care about your car or truck this is the place to get it repaired. They no what they doing and they will walk you through all the issues not just tell you to leave it. I respect this place and from now on if any other problems with my truck or car this where I’ll take it.

Highland Park Automotive is an awesome place. A friend recommended this place to me, for taking care of my 2004 Mazda 3s. They do a very good job, at a reasonable price. Oil change and filter change is $38. They even squeezed me into the schedule the same day I called. Outstanding customer service. Once I came in with a check engine light on, and they took a long time to figure out the problem. In the end it turned out to be a minor problem, but they still wouldnt charge much. Before running any major diagnostics or repairing anything, they call you and transparently consult you. The owner is not much of a talker, but that does not matter, because they did a great job. I would definitely recommend this place.

After a horrible experience at another garage that butchered a catalytic converter replacement, I took my Chrysler to Highland Park Auto to have the work redone. Service was honest and the work was top quality. They are definitely not the cheapest but If you are looking for a cheap garage I will give you the number for the first garage.

I found a local shop rather than going to the Lexus dealer and having the dealer do unnecessary work adding up to a costly amount.I happened to bring my car in for tires and thought I’d have the regular maintenance work done. Duane advised me that I still had about 1600 miles to go before maintenance was needed. Lexus dealer would have gladly done maintenance too early and found more things needing work.I really like this local shop and never feel that I’m being spoken to in a condescending way or having someone taking of me advantage.Kathy

Excellent experience! My car was making a strange noise so I took it in around 3pm because this place is close to my house and had good reviews. Duane took it for a drive around the block and guessed it was my brakes. He recommended I come back at 8am the next day since he couldnt fix it that day. I came back, dropped off the car and he fixed my brakes (plus gave me an oil change) by 3pm. He called and explained all the repairs and costs (including tax and labor) first. It was reasonably priced considered my rear brakes were completely shot. Less than a week later I received a sweet handwritten thank you card in the mail with a Starbucks gift card for being a new customer! Talk about customer service and attention! Highly recommend!

Dont take your car to this place. Its a total ripoff. Unfortunately I was fooled by the fake reviews and took my car to this place. The story is the following:He started out with $250 just for looking at my car, he said that that would include fixing all the bulbs that are broken or replacing any old wires. Then he ended up charging me the $250 even though I had him fix my car at an already outrageous price. He charged me $350 for replacing an oxygen sensor in addition to the $250. The best thing about this whole story is that 2 weeks after, my check engine light came on again and it turned out to be the same oxygen sensor he allegedly replaced. Another week down the road the cables to my battery needed to be replaced cause they got eroded... What did I pay the $250 for again? So that he can replace any old wires and bulbs etc.Once you start asking questions he gets really aggressive and starts lecturing you. He is only nice to you as long as youre willing to pay for whatever he asks you. Do yourself a favor and avoid this place. Actually do yourself a favor and avoid all mechanics in HP, theyre all a huge ripoff!

I went to Highland Park Automotive for a problem that was plaguing my car that could have been dangerous if over looked further. I had Duane run a full diagnostic for me and the report was emailed to me as requested and then he took his time in going through everything with me over the phone. He DID NOT take advantage or tried to sell me on anything I didnt need. The report was actually very clean and well organized, detailing what should be done sooner and what can wait. He consulted me on everything before doing them and an estimation. Duane is absolutely amazing! He worked on my Mazda he did so promptly and walked me step by step of the diagnosis so I know exactly what was wrong and what he was going to do. Works with his customers, he understanding that some of us are students and cant really afford everything at once. He even hand writes a thank you letter to repeat customers.

Very helpful staff and owner. I took my Chevy truck in for a new alternator and battery and the turn around was fast and the staff was knowledgeable and helpful. I had some concerns a week or so later and the owner was kind enough to look at my truck and give me assessment free of charge. Prices seem fair and I will be returning in the future.

Being a college Student and not from the area, I had to do my own research to find a respectable auto repair shop. In speaking with a few places( and getting some ridiculous estimates) , I came across Duane and his shop. He immediately leveled with me and told me he wouldnt give me an estimate. Instead he asked me to bring in my car and he would have a look at it, so i could get an accurate and fair price.(which is a good sign) For the work that was done and service given, I was very pleased how smoothly everything went. I will definitely recommend my friends to go here if they are in need of auto work.

I found this place after looking for a reliable auto repair shop to get a look at my Toyota Camry. It is around a mile away from HMart on RT 27 - very convenient location for me!Duane runs this place great, clearly explains what has to be done and tries to even give some priority around the things that need to be done so that we can plan the expenses. You can see the office and the garage where all the work gets done is very organized, clean and tidy which personally to me, gives a professional reassurance.This place is open only during the weekdays (which is a little bit inconvenient, but everyone needs a weekend!). But if you drop off the vehicle, usually you will get a ride back to work/home/station.I see some of the reviews thinks its a bit pricey but I dont think so (not that i am an expert at auto repair pricing). When the work was to be done on my Camry, Duane gave me list of things along with their prices (after taxes, so there is no hidden cost later). I checked with my friends who knows about this more than I do & they all said its very reasonable. Moreover, an oil change here is quick (i usually call ahead before I drop by) and I can say its easily 1/2 the price that I got charged at other places nearby.I highly recommend this place & would strongly advice to give this local business a try!!

I arranged for the car to be towed to his facilities. He did a thorough assessment advised me of all my options and quickly got the car back up and running. It was primarily a battery issue; the car was about due for servicing, I had him do the servicing as well. I have been to garages where they inflate the issues with the vehicle to increase the bill; that was not the case here. Everything was broken down, explained and a plan for full restoration over two visits put in place.The kicker was that as it was my first visit, I did receive a follow-up call afterwards to thank me for my business and check and see that everything was running smoothly. I have been wanting to write this review for a other things got in the way. Today, as I was looking to get a spare key, I called Duane, and he took time out to give me the right pointers to obtain the keys as it required orders directly with the Volvo dealership. Funnily enough the other locksmith I called about it could not stay 30 seconds on the phone beyond saying We dont do it. Such a stark contrast in customer care; so, I was compelled to cut the procrastination and ensure have to give credit where it is due -- Duane and Highland Park Automotive stands above the rest in their level or expertise and customer care.

At first time, I thought the shop was good. I got problem with my headlight and put my car to this shop. I mentioned that my battery light is on and maybe there is some problem with wire circuit. Then they did the electrical test for me and just simply replace the headlight bulbs. Besides, they suggest me to replace the oil pressure switch and I accept it. When they fixed my car, they said everything is fine. When I asked about my battery, they said is good. Unfortunately, just one day after my car get fixed. The alternator and battery went bad and I cant even use emergency parking. How can such a big problem come out after they did the electrical test for me. Just one day after they did the test! Outstanding work. Its pretty clear that they actually care, also.HPA took care of some routine maintenance on my car along with brakes and a squeaky belt. The owner even followed up a few days later to make sure everything was running smoothly.Prices were fair- on par with work youll get at most shops. But the customer service was top notch. No question Ive found my new mechanic.

Had my rear breaks replaced here, overall they did a great job. Called them and they were able to do it the day of. Explained to me why I needed new rotors and recommended break pads, and not just the most expensive ones. Very friendly owner and like he mentioned, he is very passionate about his business and cars. Even called couple days later to do a follow up to make sure everything was ok. Price I think was fair, not the cheapest place around but you do get what you pay for.

I have come here twice and both times, the owner has been kind and honest. Today I had a nail in my tire. He came out to my car, looked at it right away and took the nail out after inspecting it and making sure it wasnt going to cause a flat, no charge.The first time I came in to highland park automotive, I brought my car in for a big job, as it was overheating and leaking. After the diagnostics, he was very upfront about the charges and issues.Would highly recommend.

I would like to say that Duane was very firm and honest about giving me the quote for my front windshield that was shattered by a rock. He also kept his promised by doing it on time.I rated four, because it was a bit expensive. However, I would go back to him if I ever need to fix anything. I rather have someone who take his time and be honest, rather than quick and be ignorant about it.He also gave me a ride to my work back and forth which was very helpful too. I have had a remarkable experience at Highland Park Automotive. I first found them when I needed my license plates changed coming back from the DMV, as the screws on my old plates were rusty. The owner, Duane, took the time to help me change the plates without charging me. When my car started making a weird noise and I knew it might need more serious repairs, I looked around on google reviews, and the positive things people had to say here combined with the help I’d been offered previously meant that I decided to go to Highland Park Automotive. Duane offered to do a full diagnostic of my car to not only figure out what was currently wrong, but to give me a timeline of things that were that I would need replaced in the next few years. The problems that needed immediate addressing were my rear brakes, timing belt, and right front wheel bearing. He gave me the cost including labor and parts upfront, explained the work that needed to be done, and texted me pictures of my car so that I could see what was wrong. As the total cost of repairs came out to over $1000 (both a timing belt being very expensive to replace, as well as my rear wheels needed new rotors), and I know very little about cars, I asked my uncle who is a semi-professional mechanic to call and confirm that these prices were reasonable. My uncle confirmed that I wouldn’t find a better deal anywhere else. It took one day for the rather sizable amount of repairs to be finished, and my car is running perfectly now. Duane followed up by asking a week later whether or not everything was running smoothly, and checked out what turned out to be a malfunctioning light on my dash for free.I will certainly continue coming here as long as I live in Highland Park. When doing oil changes, he checks for any other problems in the car, so I know that I can always trust how my car is running by going to Highland Park Automotive.

We hit a skid and went over the medium separating traffic on a Sunday afternoon. Cracked the rack and pinion, cracked both front wheels and one of the bearings. Since they are closed Sunday we left it in their lot and called Monday morning and they fixed it by Wednesday morning. He did an awesome job keeping me updated on what was wrong and when it would be fixed. I was worried about finding a good mechanic since we just moved to New Jersey and glad we picked Highland Park Auto. Definitely will be using them for all other car needs. Awesome customer service with a genuine, personal touch.

Dude was hella honest and didnt try and charge me for an alternator that I didnt need at the time, like another mechanic did only a month prior to this incident. Instead he kept it real, told me it was a loose cable, and didnt try to rip me off for a whole alternator. Dude wont give an estimate over the phone without looking at your car, which in my opinion shows honesty and transparency. A lot of places will give you an estimate that sounds pleasant just to get you in the door. All in all the repair was real quick and about average price. Going to school at Rutgers NB for the next couple years and this guy will be my go to mechanic. I would recommend this guy, Duane, which I believe the guys name was who I spoke with.

I contacted Duane (HP Auto) for checking and replacing (if necessary) braking pads and rotors. He is very experienced and professional guy. I dropped-off my car, and it tooks him a couple of hours for diagnostics. He called me back then and provided with the report of what should be replaced ASAP, qnd what can wait (but should be considered for replacement in future). Ive been there twice. Once for brakes and once for a steering problem. Both times they identified the problem and fixed it quickly at a reasonable price. Ill definitely go there again.

Fantastic customer service! I had a flat tire and needed it patched last minute. HP Auto was one of the few shops I called at 4:30 on a Friday that was still open. The owner waited for me to show up before closing for the day. The tire was fixed almost immediately, and at a VERY reasonable price. He could have easily charged me a fortune since I was desperate, but he didnt. Thats the type of honesty youd hope for in every profession. Thanks so much Duane!

The owner there is really nice and seems to know what he is doing but the estimate he gave me for a repair was very expensive. In fact 152% of what I paid in another place. Also I am not sure if it is a common practice for a mechanic to charge a fee even if you decided not to get the repair after an estimate but he did.

Had engine light on. Mechanic was able to fix it in the same day (changed all spark plugs and one coil). But after 4 days got engine light on one again... UPD: At the next day they do a lot of analysis to find out that one fuel injector failed periodically. It wasnt their fault, as full engine diagnostic wasnt done. They have replaced it with no service cost! Thanks them very much!

I dont understand how this place is rated with 4.5 stars because I was treated VERY rude from the first day when i towed my car here for inspection. My car engine wouldnt start for some reason and i was thinking between fixing the car or discarding the car. When i asked Duanes opinion, instead of answering my questions, he would try to persuade me to fix the breaks and calibers, saying it is not safe to drive. I made myself clear that i do not want to spend more than $700 for the break especially when the engine is not even starting and Duane had told me that he has no balls to guarantee that it wont break down again after he fixes it. They charged me more than $400 for diagnosing the car, replacing thermostat & antifreeze. They charged me $110 for towing. AND THE CAR BROKE DOWN AGAIN 4DAYS LATER. I called them next day to repair the car for free because the car shouldnt be breaking down 4 days after it was fixed if they had done their job properly. Duane was repeatedly saying that he has been doing his business for 33 years blah blah, he said, The cost depends on what is wrong with the car, if it is not the problem of thermostat, we will charge you. The car started working again when i towed my car to the H.P. Automotive for extra $80. When i asked Duane why the car engine stopped, he wouldnt know, keep saying there is no problem with the car. I was very uncomfortable while doing business with Duane for past 3 weeks. I think he acts very rude when you try to be cost-efficient. He looks down on you, he was looking at computer or reading newspaper while talking to me, he would use mechanical terminologies when you ask questions regarding the car, so basically you wont be able to understand most of the thing he is saying. He makes zero attempt to help you understand what is wrong with the car. He often forgets that he is still talking to his customer, and is very rude. He asks you to sign on papers without explanations. When you ask for detailed explanations, he doesnt want to get bothered. Duane is full of pride that he thinks he deserves so much respect as a mechanic, but this attitude provides extremely uncomfortable experience to the customer like me. I first found this place from google and looked at the 4.5 star rating but ended up with disappointment. I think lot of people (including me) get confused between this place and the Highland Park Service Center, which is different from this owner. I would rather recommend H.P. Service Center.

This is a reliable auto factory, professional, patient and high efficient. I just stopped by their shop to do the routine oil change, but they helped me find out several problems for my car , one is the coolant leaking and the other is the AC compressor. I replaced the coolant radiator there and the cost was rational. Why I didt fix the AC compressor there is just since my car is too old thus I went to junk car center to take out a used one and replace it.This is a trustable factory and neighbor in Highland Park, NJ.

Good service and reasonable prices. I recently took my car in to get some work done and parked my car on a side street (wasnt on HP Automotives property; dont do this if possible, use their space right next to their building). While waiting a random truck knocked off my driver side mirror. The shop immediately ordered a new mirror. It arrived next day and when I came in they immediately began working on my car. Best of all they comped me the cost of the mirror+labor. Great service/response to an annoying situation. I would definitely recommend them.

I brought my car in to have a safety inspection/oil change, and to have the door handle replaced since it had snapped off. I was assured that my car would be ready the same day, and I was even contacted because the parts supplier wasnt able to match the handle to the colour of my car. Then the same day became the next day when the supplier wasnt able to deliver until the following morning. Then the next day became four days later, because the supplier wasnt able to get the part all, despite all the assurances that it would come in. When I went to pick up my car, because I could not leave it in the shop for five days, I was treated rudely by the owner, as though the failure to provide service was my fault. I was told that only the dealership could order the part I needed, despite the fact that its widely available for sale online (not to mention scrap yards, since my car is a common make and model), and despite the fact that his reliable supplier claimed he could have the part for two days before and didnt deliver. I was offered no apologies for the lack of service, and was snapped at for saying I didnt want to pay for the unnecessary disassembling or reassembling of my door.The owner also promised he would show me the other repairs hed made to my car, but didnt.

Duane has always been consistently honest and dealt with us fairly. From personal experience I can testify to his integrity in diagnosis and fixing of our vehicles.A real example: I once brought in a Subaru that had a rattling noise when it accelerated. I brought it to Duane and we discovered it was a gasket that was worn away and needed to be replaced. Then a few months later, I was experiencing a similar issue with another car and I brought it to Duane and even told him I thought it was the same problem. He looked into it and told me it was just a loose screw and he wasnt going to charge me for tightening it. He could have confirmed my false suspicion and I wouldnt have been the wiser. A lot of mechanics would have no problem doing that.

Finally got around to leaving my review as it is well deserved!!! Most importantly, this is the place you need to take your car to if youre having an issue. I recently moved to the area, one day I noticed my Check Engine light was on and it began stalling. After searching Google, I called Highland Park Automotive and spoke directly to the owner Duane. He was able to diagnose the problem, estimate the cost of repair, and fix it in a timely manner. He is professional, and kind as he gave me a ride home after I dropped the car off. As I was new to the area at that time, I didnt have a mechanic (I live in Piscataway) and I am happy to say I have one that I can trust.. Thank you!!!!
