Some context: I’m a new mom in my late 20’s who has never found a fitness program that I enjoy. I’ve tried a lot of different programs and several different trainers. Historically, I’ve had a horrible relationship with my body and some disordered eating as a result of years of yo-yo dieting and weight loss by some kind of starvation plan.I wanted to try weightlifting because I wanted something that would help me focus on being strong instead of making me obsess over weight loss and would make me more confident in a gym setting. Andrew’s Barbell Basics class was exactly what I needed. It’s a small class, so each of us receives individual attention and coaching. Way more affordable than CrossFit, and I didn’t sustain any injuries. Andrew taught us solid, foundational weightlifting skills, focusing on our form and helping us build awareness of our body movements. In eight weeks I feel more confident in my strength than I ever have, and I’m excited every day that I have a class scheduled. Andrew’s coaching is gentle and direct and I have never felt judged or weak; he’s been great about helping me focus on strength building and went above and beyond to make me feel comfortable. This has also been a great option during the pandemic, each student has their own set of bars and weights and there is very little need to be in proximity to other students. Andrew always maintains a respectful distance and the place is sparkling clean. I would recommend this class or any training with Andrew for anyone who has never felt at home in a gym and wants the chance to see what your body is truly capable of. I’ve signed up for the next iteration of Barbell Basics and can’t wait to see how I feel in eight more weeks.

Andrew first started coaching me through Gator Weightlifting at the University of Florida. The moment I spoke with him about weightlifting I knew that I would not find a better coach. Andrews expertise and passion for the sport is readily apparent. You can ask him literally any question you could think of about training, programming, technique, etc. Not only will he answer your question accurately and thoroughly, he will also provide at least 3 different scientific references. It is truly incredible. I have been working with Andrew for almost two years now. He bends over backwards to accommodate his athletes. I recently moved to MN and he continues to program for me and coach me from afar. I have made huge strides in weightlifting. He even helped me recover from a broken leg/surgery and get back to the sport (and life) like nothing ever happened. I HIGHLY recommend his services. His coaching is well worth your time and money!

Andrew introduced me to the sport of weightlifting two years ago at the University of Florida and I can honestly say there is little else I would ask for from a coach. His emphasis on evidence-based strength training and longitudinal development proved much more valuable to me as an athlete than trendy or flashy workouts. Within a year, I had sizable gains in both strength and power all while gradually improving my weightlifting technique. Andrew is incredibly knowledgeable and always open to discussion about how training could be better optimized for the athlete. Highly recommended for new and experienced lifters alike!

Like many other people, I met Andrew through the University of Floridas weightlifting club. I HIGHLY recommend working with Andrew; for he is not only very intelligent and passionate, but he also has many years of experience coaching and training in weightlifting. Andrew keeps up with the latest research in weight training/programming and has the natural gift of picking out minute technique flaws. Through Andrew I have improved my technique and became a lot stronger in the process. If you are interested in becoming stronger, maintaining what you have, or just want to lift with good people GO SEE ANDREW.

I have been working with Andrew at weightlifting practices for about two years now and met him when I was a beginner in the Gator Weightlifting Club. He is an incredibly knowledgeable, professional, and helpful coach who really considers the long-term development of people working out under his guidance.I would refer people of any ability or fitness level to train with Andrew as he tailors a program to your goals and abilities but can challenge and push you when necessary.I gladly pay a small gym fee to attend practices 4 times a week with personalized attention. Other gyms in the area charge you more just to use the facilities and are frankly not as clean and well-kept as Andrews space.

Ive tried the globo gyms, Ive tried Crossfit, and Ive tried powerlifting gyms. In my opinion, Dr. Andrew Layne is the best strength coach in Gainesville FL.Few people have the credentials Andrew has earned and together with his years of experience as both an athlete and a coach, Andrew has developed a remarkable breadth of true expertise. In particular, is an expert in youth athletic development, Olympic weightlifting, and healthy aging of older individuals. As a former division 1 athlete, Ive been fortunate to work with coaches of the highest quality. Dr. Andrew Layne is such a coach - right here in Gainesville FL. In my time working with Andrew, Ive found his programming for competitive weightlifting to be among the most effective Ive tried, and his manner of professionalism to be supportive and welcoming of all skill levels. If you are interested in living a healthier lifestyle, building a stronger body, or training for a competitive sport, I HIGHLY recommend Dr. Andrew Layne at Layne Performance.
