Highly recommend it. Although my kids were the ones to start BJJ classes there, I wasnt expecting such a good gym culture when I started but everyone is both extremely nice and helpful. So, any newcomers should not hesitate when beginning because you will be welcomed by all belt levels. Prof Lou does a great job teaching and maintaining a camaraderie that will help you excel. The kids classes are great and my son loves it. It helps get his energy out and provides him the self-defense confidence and clear mind he may need if ever in a confrontation.

Have been there three months so far. The head instructor Lou is extremely professional and welcoming. The atmosphere is very supportive, members all strive to help each other learn and grow as Jiu Jitsu martial artists. I originally joined to get into shape and lose some weight. In doing so, I have found BJJ to be both physically AND mentally interesting, fortifying, strengthening, as it tests your capacity to learn and grow in multiple dimensions. Would recommend to anyone.

I have been here for 5 years. I am so happy to call this academy my home. I definitely recommend this academy for all men, women and children. There are a lot more women who have joined the academy and love it and the kids classes are upbeat and a good size. This is a very friendly atmosphere and everyone helps each other. We are family here! I can say this academy has made me a better person - through jiujitsu and the guidance of my instructor and training partners, this academy has had a positive affect on my life. Highly recommended.

This school not only offers great martial arts, but also a oppoortunity to get a great workout, make new friends, and build confidence and self esteem. Lou is a great instructor, along with the other black belts that help instruct. Take the chance to at least try it out, you wont regret it.

I’ve been going to Performance BJJ for a little over a year now and it has been and continues to be a great time. A lot of different guys to train with, coming in all shapes and sizes with a variety of backgrounds. BJJ, wrestling, judo or nothing at all. No egos and everyone is respectful during rolling.Instruction is fantastic with Louis Vintaloro running the show. Techniques are explained clearly and in a digestible structure. Also, if you’re wrapped up in lineage you can’t go wrong. Nearly every While Belt class has Black Belts actively learning and rolling. Knowledge is available throughout the mats. From a fitness perspective it’s helped a lot. Resting heart rate and blood pressure down significantly.I started with as close to zero “martial arts” experience as you can get. I regret not starting sooner.PS – A random note – Parking is always available! Nothing worse then having a busy schedule, making it to a class and then not being able to find parking.

I am currently and have been a student for a few years at the Performance Jiu Jitsu Academy. I would highly recommend the school to not just anyone who is looking for a good Brazilian Jiu Jitsu school to train at, but to anyone, whether they are young or old, superb athlete or average person looking to get into better shape, that has a desire to experience a very effective martial art. While the the atmosphere is not as formal as many traditional martial arts, everyone, from Lou himself to all his students treat everyone else with the utmost respect and demonstrate no attitude other than that of helping each other to advance in their Jiu Jitsu, whether they have been there for years or if is their first day.Lou is omnipresent at the school, even at open mat sessions to watch his students train. Unlike many other schools, he himself teaches almost all the classes. There are only two classes out of the more than 15 weekly classes that other students teach (and those instructors are highly qualified black belts).Lou is an excellent instructor teaching a very effective martial art. In addition to Jiu Jitsu, the school offers Muay Thai classes by a very qualified instructor at no extra charge.I would recommend the school to any adult or to parents that have children who wish to learn top notch Jiu Jitsu in a safe and positive manner.

Ive been to a few schools and no other school chokes me out quite like this one. Lou has been doing it since the early 90s as well as has a black belt in Judo. He has trained world champion, JT Torres as well as other notable practitioners. He even taught a few guys that went on to open their own schools here in Jersey. The atmosphere is probably the friendliest I have ever had. I dont think I will ever leave this school.

Not the best place for beginners. And high risk to injuries. I had no experience but owner put me on rolling already. No step by step and proper teaching. Its very fast pace. If youre experienced athlete, a lot of men are strong here and will be better for you. I go to Training Grounds and owner is more professional and will walk you through step by step. I hurt my left hip and leg because owner forced me to get up from rolling when I had no proper teaching. Until now, I have to go to PT to fix my hip and left leg. Not to mention that Gi is overpriced here. Training Grounds provides more professional training and reasonable worth the money of Gi.

Great place to train! I tried out a bunch of schools before I found PJJ, and was impressed by the level of knowledge I received during every class. As a white belt, it’s refreshing to have the indispensable amount of help available at PJJ, from Prof Lou to all of the upper belts who are ready to put in the time and help you succeed. The classes are always challenging, however Lou is always ready to help with a more detailed explanation whenever necessary. I highly recommend PJJ.

I wanted to give this place a solid year before I gave a review, and it has far exceeded all of my expectations. I came into this school with 0 experience and Luis brought me up to speed very quickly and is always available to answer any questions I have as well as making sure I understand the positions/technique and applying them correctly. The school has a TON of upper ranks who are always willing to help, as well as an awesome group of guys and an amazing atmosphere to train and grow. At 30+ years old, I’m in the best shape of my life and I owe it all to PJJ. One of the best life decisions I have ever made. I literally have a BJJ school up the street from me, but choose to come 40 minutes – an hour out of my way to train under Professor Louis Vintaloro.

Prof. Louis Vintaloro is one of the finest instructors of BJJ I have ever seen. I’ve been training at Performance for 13 years and have learned from the best. This is a place for beginners to advanced and has a relaxed atmosphere where there’s always someone willing to help and guide newer students or help the more advanced feel challenged.

What makes PJJ exceptional and unlike any of the other schools within the NJ area, is that Professor Louis Vintaloro emphasizes the importance of learning the SELF-DEFENSE TECHNIQUES of Gracie Jiu Jitsu. His dedicated self-defense class stresses the development of self-defense technique, which helps shape a strong jiu jitsu game altogether. Prof. Louis Vintaloro has a good variety of adult classes to choose from during the week: gi, no gi, self-defense, open mats, etc. He offers kids’ classes 3x a week, where he also teaches self-defense techniques. My daughter began her training at PJJ at 4.5 years old (2 yrs. ago) and is building a solid foundation in knowing how to defend herself. All classes usually have a good mixture of people at ALL belt levels, so there’s always an extra set of hands to help. Safe, supportive, inclusive, and challenging environment. Attain your goals of building a healthier lifestyle while learning how to defend yourself!!

When I stopped working in Manhattan I needed to find a place to train in NJ. I chose Performance Jiu Jitsu because they had been around for years which is a sign of quality since so many martial arts places go in and out of business. Another benefit of training at a place with a history is that there is plenty of experienced members to learn from and to challenge yourself with. Sometimes when I fly to other parts of the country I bring along my gi and may not have much choice as to where I train. What Ive come to realize is that without black and brown belts in the room my growth in jiu jitsu would have stunted. Lou is an excellent teacher and cares about making everyone realize his/her potential. He spends lots of time with the white and blue belts in the room. The environment is relaxed and sometime I go to train as much for the social aspect as the jiu jitsu.

To put it plainly: Performance Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is an amazing place to learn authentic Gracie Jiu-Jitsu from a friendly, dedicated and highly qualified instructor. Ive trained Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu all over the globe: from Brazil to Barcelona, California to Utah, attending seminars and studying with some of the biggest international names in Jiu-Jitsu. Whenever I mention that Louis Vintaloro is my teacher - I am greeted, in sum and substance, with the same statement over and over: Lou! Hes amazing. From Royler Gracie to Kid Peligro even the biggest names in Jiu-Jitsu know Lou and acknowledge his skills and longstanding dedication to the development of real Gracie Jiu-Jitsu in the Tri-State Area. The student body at Performance Jiu-Jitsu is diverse. From dedicated brown and black belts looking to hone the fine points of their game for competition to casual beginners looking to get in shape and have fun; from teenagers and college students to lawyers, doctors and law enforcement officers in their 30s, 40s and 50s - there couldnt be a more wide range of men and women - but somehow it all blends together to a fun and friendly atmosphere were everyone pushes everyone to bring out the best in themselves. No matter where else I travel and train from time to time, I couldnt be prouder to call Performance Jiu-Jitsu of Fair Lawn my Jiu-Jitsu home and the men and women there, under Professor Lous instruction, my Jiu-Jitsu family. If you are thinking about training - look no further. This is the school for you.

Being new to New Jersey (Bergen County), I was scouting a few schools throughout NJ. Ive gone to several schools in NYC and wanted to find the same calibre BJJ school in NJ. After reading many reviews, I decided to check Performance Jiu Jitsu. There are plenty of classes. So that means BJJ any day of the week! Classes are even held on Sunday, which is a MAJOR plus for people who reside in Bergen County. Plus, Muay Thai classes are offered at NO extra cost. The school has very talented practitioners and the skill level is very high. There arent too many egos and everyone is there to get better while having a good time. They are always trying to improve each others game and are extremely patient in helping everyone improve their game. There is a GREAT sense of pride in being part of the school and the guys at Performance are now like a family to me.Oftentimes, a person takes after their teacher and Professor Lou Vintaloro is a great example to follow. He rolls with his students during class regardless of belt level and hes very friendly and inviting. Often during open mat or rolling, Professor Vintaloro will walk around and coach everyone, demonstrate new techniques, and/or correct flaws in someones game. The instruction is top notch; traditional and modern BJJ; and very detailed. Professor Lou is a 2nd Degree Black Belt from Master Royler Gracie with over 15+ years experience in BJJ.Bottom line, Performance Jiu-Jitsu is a great place to learn and a great place to improve your Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (Gi or NOGI) and/or Muay Thai. The atmosphere is laid-back, very warm and a second-home to some.
