When you join Karate International, you dont just join a dojo to learn karate, you also gain an extended family that helps you or your child succeed in life. You wont find a more passionate group of people who teach valuable skills of self defense, discipline, respect, community, and working towards goals. They also offer amazing opportunities for teens to connect with one another with their community programs. My son has been training here since he was 5 and, as a 12 year old, Ive seen tremendous growth in him. Even during the pandemic, they pivoted quickly to make sure they continued offering classes and support to their students remotely. I cant say enough about this amazing dojo and every person that works here. They truly care and they bring out the best in our kids.

The team at KI is truly tops! It’s a comfortable, learning atmosphere where everyone is both accepted and encouraged to be and do their best. I couldn’t ask for a better place to train and grow as a martial artist.

Highly recommend giving Karate International of Exeter a try. Mr. Wharem and the KI staff are excellent, everyone has positive attitudes and are very knowledgeable. The classes are the perfect balance of learning martial arts and self- discipline while having fun. KI also offers lots of certification classes for the kids to learn additional skills. My son looks forward to every class and private lesson. His one complaint, is that he wishes the classes lasted hours!

There are so many wonderful things to say about this place I dont know where to start.. The staff truly care about each student! They do a fantastic job balancing both material and other important concepts like discipline, respect, and perseverance among others. There is such a palpable sense of community here that coming back from college for visits feels like you never left. I cannot recommend this place highly enough.

My daughter has been going here for 14 years. The instructors are very professional and have high expectations of the kids, but nothing that they cant meet. I love how family-friendly the dojo is. Theyve helped my daughter through thick and thin through her childhood and teens always helping her come through more confident on the other side. I highly suggest this dojo to anyone looking for a place with incredibly knowledgeable instructors, many different types of classes to choose from, and just a fun place to be. When you go to the dojo you truly feel like family.

Ive been with KI since I was 4 years old, and 16 years later Im still training! This dojo is more than just a place where you learn to defend yourself, its a community. Speaking as someone who went through the youth program and now is in the adult program, there is a welcoming place for anyone who joins. As a youth student youre taught discipline, respect, leadership, and work ethic. I dont think I would have the same motivation to work hard in school, and to keep myself in shape if it wasnt for KI. As for the adult program you learn some more advanced techniques, and get that well needed escape from the work day to keep you feeling young. Karate International not only teaches you how to defend yourself, but also teaches you to be the best version of yourself.

I can not say enough good about this place. My son has Autism and ADHD, and 10 years ago his father and I went looking for something for him to do. We called a dozen places. KI Exeter was the only place that called back. Mr English and Mr Wharem are amazing with all of their young people. The rest of the staff is just as amazing and most started as students at KI. The pricing is very reasonable, even for the private lessons. I highly recommend them. I am proud to say, they are all Team Talin, even on the hardest of days .

My daughter has been going to karate international for 6 years. Each child can work at their own pace and if they are ever stuck an instructor works with them to help them achieve the goals that they want to achieve. My daughter looks forward to ever single class she attends to be able to learn something new, practice the old stuff, or if it’s just simply to see the instructors. Each teacher has made an impact on her and she looks up to every single one of them! Once you start your journey at karate international you will forever have a new group of people to call your “ family”.

I’ve been a student here at karate international for about 12 years. I’ve made friends that I now consider family. The parents, kids, and staff really make the dojo not only a place to learn self defense but a place to have fun. Karate has taught me many things like exercise, nutrition, good health, manners, and time management. Karate has been a big part of my life growing up as a kid and now as an adult. I am now a college student and continue to visit and help out when I can. I am thankful for karate and the people there who have helped me through difficult times in my life.

There is a reason I have spent over 15 years training at this dojo, not just the constant striving of instructors to better both their students, and themselves. When here, i became part of a family, a group i knew i could count on anytime and have stayed connected with through years of meting away at college and will hopefully stay connected with for the rest of my life. This isnt just a place to learn self defence, it is infinitely more.

My teen daughter started in this dojo after being referred by a World Champion Karate Professor who has trained with the dojos main teacher/manager. He couldnt speak more highly of Mr. Wharem. I was incredibly impressed with how teachers and students quickly made my shy daughter feel comfortable and more secure in her own abilities. She has been with the dojo for 4 years and has encouraged me to start training. I am on my second year in the adult Kenpo class and couldnt be happier with the level of professionalism that is intermingled with fun and exercise. The dojo has given me friends, confidence and a place to go where I know I will be welcomed and coached by instructors AND students-who help no matter what level you are. This is a wonderful community that has also risen through the barriers of Covid restrictions to keep their doors open throughout the entire pandemic, whether through zoom, outside practice, or well maintained, CDC following mat time. They have been our lifeline through this pandemic and I highly recommend them.

I took the adult karate and kickboxing classes at Karate International. My goal was to get back in shape and learn a skill at the same time. I got in the best shape I’ve been in since college. I went from being able to only do a few push-ups on my knees to pumping out 20+ at a time. The karate classes engaged my mind while working my body. Kickboxing left me exhausted but exhilarated at my progress. Most of all, it was so much fun. There is nothing like being out of breath from working out and laughing at the same time. Lastly, I’ve seen people post this before, but I’ve now experienced it myself – you become part of a family. I have moved away for work, but the people I met at KI continue to be dear friends. I encourage anyone to just give it a try; it will be more than worth your while.
