I had to live here for 2 months. It was hot and there wasnt air conditioning. I saw where someone said on here they received donations and take them for themselves. I donated a toaster for the room upstairs so we could have toast on cold breakfast days...every time I asked about it they said they didnt know what happened to it. It was brand new and was given to me when I was staying in a motel. I was going to leave it there...I gave it at the beginning before I knew what type of people they were.I finally left and went to another shelter that actually helped people in need. I was there 2 months and found my own place. They had different churches that you would go to and stay for a week. You could tell people there your story and they would donate funds to an account for you to help you get your own place. They fed you great food unlike Genesis House that would get food donated then give it to you a couple days later when it was bad! They received food from a truck and if there was something they wanted they took it (like greens)couple of the workers were nice but me being the only white person I was not treated very well...by the other homeless people and most of the workers. They also had a garden and they were supposed to feed us from there...I think we got fresh tomatoes one time. They took the rest. Im a cook and I offered to help work in the kitchen but was never allowed to due to me knowing their scam.I witnessed the workers taking things from donations for themselves and holding things for other workers. I just happened to be there a couple times or I would have not got anything. If you look at the front of the building you can see that the sidewalk is broken up...I tripped and fell. I had to go to the hospital...I got written up because I was going in to talk to my caseworker and since I didnt show and no one told her I was at the hospital. There are so much more I could say but they need to put themselves in the homeless persons place...we are there because we want to be, we had nowhere else to go...its very sad because they could do a lot of good if it was run right by honest people. Peace.

A homeless man came into our office today, asking for help, and needing a homeless shelter. We just wanted to help. We called several shelters, with no luck, and no offer of direction.... However, when I called Genesis House, Mr. Richardson answered, and was so kind. He offered a solution and a phone number, and actual HELP! How kind! You do not see that very often these days! Thank you for your help.

You can stay for 90 days. There are women with children on the upper floor, but single women stay in a dorm on the first floor together. Staff are usually very nice. The only thing I dont like is that you have to get up at 6:20 am if you dont work and sit upstairs in the lunch/dinner room until 3pm Monday thru Friday

Unless you truly need somewhere to live this is not the place for you, Genesis house 1 aka Teen Mom shelter is a waste of time dont get me wrong everyone got a job but when your job is to use and manipulate young women its a scam not a job they have you wait there for 6 months before they even help you find housing then you have to wait another additional months before they file your work and you know how long it takes to be on a waiting list for housing..... They calm to be a shelter but yet use our brige cards to buy food which is not a problem but they keep them and never return your Bridge card back to you until you leave ...The Co_worker there put out all the young women/ client business to other young women there speaking on there personal situation in front of all the young women behind the client back and the workers gossip and talk about the young ladys here as if they are not human because we live in a shelter....They put out a girl because she had a job retreat and left them a not explaining why she had to leave so early and fast yet told them a week early that she was leaving.... O Yea and did I tell you they want us to pay rent too and they say this is a shelter not transitional living and they want rent and food stamps and very unorganized... So all I have say is that this is for the ones who truly dont have no where to go this place wont help no more then you help your self yes organisations come there give clothes and they help with bus passes put as any program you have to use it for your true needs.. This shelter is not for everyone and is truly funny and fishy

The ladies who work here takes some of the things that people donate for the girls in need and keep it for them selfs. They also take back the things they give you and give them to other girls If they dont see you wearing or using the clothing/ personal need items. The ladies who work here also talk about you behind your back and tell all your business to the other girls who live there. Its like this at the old church they use as an shelter for older woman as well.
