This is a great YMCA facility. They have everything you would want for working out and programs. I used this facility while traveling on business. They have a great workout room upstairs that has a full weight room and dozens of cardio machines. The facility has a full gym, classrooms, indoor pool and game fields outside. Highly recommend.

Not sure what’s the point of having a membership when you can’t access the smaller less populated workout room? I went to the front desk and inquired why it was locked but there was a man working out inside with the door locked and she stated “it’s the trainer he has the key special privileges”. It just doesn’t make sense to me especially when the only room is over populated and the trainer wasn’t even utilizing any of the equipment. I needed to get cardio in but apparently I won’t be able to get my fitness needs met here although I pay monthly fees.ridiculous

Very disappointed with the staff at this facility. Bullying is never OK. Its particularly agregious when adults bully children. I would never name names, but one of the local high schools agreed (as person in reference was on staff with the school) and they dealt with the situation. The Y? No so much. So my takeaway is that such behavior is condoned by management and thats a shame.

I put my kids in day care, had a problem with my two year old, he keep screaming with them. He goes to daycare twice a week, no problem at all there. He can not wait to go, but he fights me tooth and nail if we come here. I wonder WHY?????? Do not trust them at all.

Clean, lots of exercise options, employees seem friendly enough. Pool schedule is horrible and does not accommodate lap swimmers in the slightest. Swimming is important for kids and swim teams but this could be managed a lot better.

I go to the YMCA several times per week. I have Sjogrens Syndrome and Mixed Connective Tissue Disorder. I became very weak after numerous surgeries and had no idea how to bounce back, where to begin and how to get back in shape without injuring myself. The staff at the YMCA have been very compassionate and extremely helpful. They have tailored exercises to fit my needs and are always available to answer questions and show me new things to help me advance and fend off boredom in my workout. I think the staff is awesome and the programs offer a great variety for beginners to advanced skills.

I was a participant in the LIVESTRONG pilot program. I inadvertently deleted my first review so I’m posting again.West Cabarrus does NOT suspend your monthly fee for the 12 week program as ALL other YMCA facilities that offer this program do. Once you sign up you cannot be a participant again - it is a 1 time 12 week program. I inquired many times when the program began about the suspension of the monthly fee for current members. West Cabarrus was NOT helpful in offering this same no fee cost to ANY current members that participated in this program. Basically the response was Charlotte Y’s have more money and they can do that. Ridiculous!!!In your previous response you mentioned the program just finishing up the pilot program and how it was a success. How about taking note to the names of people leaving reviews in the future. I was one of the members that just finished your program. Had you really been interested in my review, you would have noticed that.Future participants please look into other facilities to get the ENTIRE benefit of whats offered.

I myself was not aware of this--Parents, please be aware that if you need to cancel a week or the whole Summer Camp (even before it starts allowing time for other kids to sign up), you lose $25 per week. I lost $225. I had to cancel due to moving.Update: I was hoping to hear back from this YMCA and receive a full refund on my deposit. I know that they had a waiting list, so they had a replacement for my sonss spot immediately. Therefore, it would be a fair (and Christian) act to refund me the $225. I am truly heart-broken.

Some of the employees are racist. I was working out with my mom Im 10 and they said that you can work on the cardio equipment if your 10. I was not on the strength equipment just the cardio equipment, Someone who was 8 was up there by herself, but I was with my mom, a man came up stairs and asked if Im supposed to be on the exercise equipment my mom said yes politely, now keep in mind the 8 year old girl is still right behind me. The man said that I should get off(that was obviously implying that my mom and I were lying but we werent I was born August 11, 2008 on a Monday) just so other people to get on, my mom said that I was on and he said she is joking around and people are serious about exerciseing, my mom said that I was serious and I was, other employees are very helpful and nice. I would recommend the YMCA but for black people I think you should be careful of what you do.

Absolutely loved the YMCA besides the bad management there until the new manager Robert Kirk was hired there. I quit going because the management was becoming deplorable. But im wanting to join again now that Robert is over it now. I would love to get back in there and workout in a good christian environment! They need towels though!

When swimming in the lap pool, the lifeguards allow people to jump into your lane to exercise, and there are empty lanes available they could have gone in. The lanes are clearly marked lap swim. I see this happen to other lap swimmers too.

The workout equipment is kept working properly. The gym is often occupied by pickup basketball games. The pool can sometimes have an overpowering chlorine smell.During the summer there are many camps making it difficult to use the facility.

Unfortunately, I’m extremely disappointed with the YMCA. Today Brandon and I decided to apply for the 7 day free trial at our closest location because we have heard wonderful things about the fitness classes, gym, basketball courts etc. but tonight the manager and employees made me feel embarrassed and unwelcome.Let me start with my choice of attire. I planned on working out in the gym so I picked out sports leggings and a sports crop top. I’ve worn this outfit many times to our previous gym and I’ve never thought that it was inappropriate and I’ve never received negative feedback about the outfit before.I walked inside to get signed up and immediately was responded with head to toe stares from multiple employees. I thought it was rude but I continued to overlook the stares and sign up- I then proceeded upstairs to the gym and was again left with death stares by more employees and members. While in the gym- I was greeted normally by an employee and proceeded to start my work out. 10 minutes into my work out that employee walked over and said to me, “I’m sorry but my manager just came upstairs to tell me that you cannot wear that kind of attire and next time it should be more appropriate. You are ok to finish your work out today but just please remember that for next time. Again, I’m sorry.” (After some thought, I almost wish someone would’ve just told me as soon as I walked in the door so I wouldn’t have been publicly embarrassed in their fitness room)You could obviously tell he was uncomfortable relaying the message to me and he kept apologizing like he knew that what he was telling me was absurd. I knew in my head that it was ridiculous and I knew in my heart that I was not dressed inappropriately. I am a woman, at the gym, working out. A sports crop top and sports leggings should not be deemed inappropriate. But I chose to respond with “ok”This is what the Y states on their site, “At the Y, we help build a healthy spirit, mind and body for all with the core values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility at the heart of everything we do.”I do not feel like I was shown respect today and I don’t feel like there was a caring energy about this facility given that almost every employee gave me dirty looks for the duration of my time there. I understand that they have a policy in place for “no inappropriate attire” but to me, I truly believed that there was nothing wrong with what I was wearing. This incident made me feel incredibly angry because as I looked around the gym- What I saw were numerous men in small bro tanks that showed much more than my outfit was (my midriff)Like it or not, I was inappropriately sexualized today and that makes me sad because I really thought that the Y was going to be welcoming.I could go on and on about this but instead I plan on not returning and I’ll continue my search for a gym I can feel safe and comfortable in.

Great facilities however, the after school kids and YMCA basketball league are always occupying the gym so it is hard and rare to have an open gym this time of year.

Referred here by Ortho Carolina, I cannot even walk, to use the pool only to learn to walk again. Among doing their assistant health program we were told my husband had to join to even be in the pool with me which is required due to safety with my severe health condition, I knew I was moving in July and made it clear as we JUST had gotten out of a trapped contract that was a trapped contract. They assured me cancelling wasnt a problem and I would not be charged each month. When the program ran out they had said I could pay for one month before moving. Instead they put BOTH my husband and I in a corporate contract according to their membership manager and we were charged through August, Once calling (now 5 times) and actually having to have a staff member physically get the membership manger to get a call back, I was told I still needed another 30 day notice even thought when I supposedly signed up would have been the day I needed to give the 30 day notice. When I mentioned that she then added they dont allow cancellations the day you sign up. ? So there is no way to do the health program without paying way more than you bargain. Filing BBB complaint as well as complaint with Ortho Carolina. We never even used the place except a few times in may and june and never for the equipment only where my husband could watch me try to walk. ALSO NO rooms for handicap users. I often had to wait or leave due to kids or guys dressing up, or someone not disabled or a family using all the handicap showers and there is no control of the locker room.
