The WAITING!! How is it mentally or physically healthy to sit a child in a room for hours on end? To keep them up (as they try to nap on hard chairs) until 3am? I realize theyre overwhelmed, but that means kids at risk dont get the help they need. The wait lists mean kids have to be boarded in the medical building for 5-7 days. I was assured that help would be provided, but that was getting maybe 1 hour of mental health therapy/questions a day, the rest just laying in a bed. They said, A doctor will be here soon, an hour at the latest. 12 hours later, a nurse practitioner arrives.... Im willing to pay for care to IMPROVE my childs mental health, but I know Ill be billed for days of care for a paper on coping skills (that I could Google), told to get outpatient therapy, and that their bridge therapy, CATC, would contact us....which they havent. The people were nice, but no one seemed to know what was going on or understand that their prolonged care adds stress to an already stressful situation. They also need more training in drawing blood.

I have a child who suffers severely from mental health issues. Nationwide Childrens has the best care around. Though no place is ever perfect, they care, they help, and you matter there. It is more than we have gotten from most other care facilities of its kind.

Called prior to going. Crisis-line Nurse was professional and kind. Evaluated my child via phone conversation prior to making the drive. We arrived at 9pm on Friday evening; it was just us there, no wait. I was there for approx. 5 hours (total time of assessments for intake). They were extremely thorough. Their Clinician felt that my kid should be further evaluated on Sat morning before making a decision. They were transferred to the main hospital where they remained for 6 days while waiting for an opening in the intake unit. That was the hardest part... waiting, but it had been worth it. They have been being cared for by an entire treatment team for the past 5 days. Clinicians have continually remained in contact daily. This intensive therapeutic approach has given me hope. We have our family therapy session today which is crucial for support and healing. Parents can call anytime to either talk with their child or with the nurse to find out how things are going. Also, visitation is anytime, and you have the option to stay the night. The facility is new, clean, safe and quiet. My kid is finding their time there helpful and I can tell they are doing better. The negative reviews I read seem to be of specific complaint with no actual bearing on the program and professionalism. Compared to the other options available for minors in the Columbus and surrounding area, I wouldnt leave my child anywhere else.

Children’s is hands down always the best place to take my kids. Especially with mental health issues. We drive over an hour to get here because there are very few mental health facilities in our community and the ones we do have are unreliable and not well suited to more intensive care. It blows my mind to see the bad reviews on here.

They let kids walk around without shoes for days on concrete and ignore the blisters and cracks because having crocs is a “safety concern” when other people can have them. I would never recommend this place to anyone. They’re only allowed to have little card board cups but they can’t have toilet paper rolls because the cardboard roll In those is “dangerous” but the cups are perfectly fine?? Makes no sense. Also they don’t tell you that when you’re admitting a patient there, you’re signing away your rights for at least 72 hours.

While the Emergency center had quite the wait once we were seen staff was amazing. They had nothing but concern for the mental health and overall safety of my child.

Sat for over five and a half hours in their behavioral health crisis center with a child who was very violent and in definite need of immediate care. Whenever I asked when we would be seen we were always next to be seen. Yeah....2 hours later. I understand staffing concerns but this is a crisis center, there should be enough clinicians on staff to provide immediate ir prompt care at all hours. If your child is in serious crisis I suggest taking them to the nearest emergency room and foregoing this place.

This has got to be the worst place ever. We’ve spent the whole day here, no exaggeration. They’re extremely under staffed and really should be accepting patients.

This hospital is amazing... I stayed here for about 5 days. The nurses and MHS’s are so nice, they help you whenever you need it, care about you, AND they’re nice to talk to. 100% recommend coming here if you need it.

Terribly incompetent. Have a child with multiple diagnoses, they refuse to help him. When I asked why they said “because he has behavioral problems”. Are you not a behavioral health hospital?! Multiple bad experiences here. Waste of space and money. Our children and families deserve better.

Unprofessional! Love to advertise that they care about kids when all they care about is image and money. Wouldnt admit my daughter when needed them the most! All a front! Go to childrens Cincinnati not Columbus location.

Drove 2 hours to get help for a child with severe behavioral problems, only to be told they cant help behavioral problems and to refer us to aba therapy, which there is none in our area. Change your name because you dont help children and families that you are marketing too. I want my insurance refunded too. Total waste.
