5-2021I am still coming in as close to every 56 days as my schedule allows, to donate by the pint. I usually see at least one familiar face each time. Folks are experienced health care professionals, as well as courteous. Since COVID I see less donors. I just figure as long as I am able, and as long as my blood donation can be of help, then I will continue....Autumn 2016 I stopped by, spontaneously, to ask about donating blood.(Ages ago, before being a mom, when I lived in southwest Virginia, I donated whole blood by the pint, roughly every 56 days. I stopped during my child-bearing years.)After inquiring and presenting current ID I began donating whole blood, a pint at a time, every couple of months or so, at this location.Staff is professional, efficient and courteous. Location is clean and well organized. Free Wi-Fi available, just ask for sign in info (usually with front desk/receptionist).From start to finish, I think the quickest Ive been able to get in and out is 45 minutes. Most time-efficient appointments have been when Ive scheduled appointment ahead of time (using blood donor app & completing Rapid Pass )[get a screen shot of completed Rapid Pass] -- on a day Im not doing a million other things. Saturday just after lunch seems to work best for me.Best results occur when Im sufficiently hydrated, did not skip most recent meal, not rushing, and I take a few minutes upon arrival to breathe deeply and calmly, after checking in.I really like when the Red Cross offers t-shirts to donors. Especially white t-shirts. Because I can tie-dye them. This year Ive tried to donate close to a significant date for me. For example, a friend passed away last year. This year I donated on her birthday, in memory/honor of her (informally, just known/mentioned to my closest family). If a donation appointment will be close to one of my childrens birthday, I will select it, in honor of them (again, informally, just known to my closest family).A couple of notes about the blood donor app (remember to complete your rapid pass via app):1. Your Donation History shows blood pressure, pulse and hemoglobin. I like being able to have that health information so I can track improvement or health concerns.2. You can view your individual blood donations journey. My blood has traveled from Columbus, GA to AL, SC as well as other GA cities.3. You can schedule your next appointment via the app.
