I started living in University Place in August 2016. It is near to the University which makes it very good. When I renew my contract last spring I was thinking I will get a discount based on the duration of my stay. But I did not get a discount, I renew my contract with additional 10 USD to pay 530USD a month. Then in August of 2018 my friends informed me that the other room in my apartment is renting 344USD. I couldn’t believe, and I saw the website, it was true.I complained to get a discount but never get any. Now I am paying 530USD while my roommate who share the same apartment with me, same kind of bedroom is paying close to 200 USD less. I couldn’t get out of the contract since it was for a year long. Unfortunate for me securing the rent earlier costed me way much. I advise you not to contract in advance. Always take your time. While all students start their school the price of the rooms in Columbia, MO will go down rapidly. (This was the thing that I did not know, now I am counting down to finish my contract which I am forced to finish the whole year or pay a full year payment if I broke the contract). NB- Ask and read the contract in full before you signed. In addition, the University Place apartment air is not fresh and the cigar smell which I have been complaining about is a headache. There is no solution to it. Especially in the summer it was too much.If you are choosing to live in the extreme end side of the apartment you might be disturbed by the outside cars noise from the University Ave. though you will have the advantage of a window view for your leaving room. The carpet which I always want to make sure it is clean are so old. I clean them now and then, but the color is so dark reddish because of its age and it always looks uncleaned. If you are planning to do most of your study from the apartment, you might have a problem with the internet. It is highly unreliable. Think of your options. There is a gym where you can work out, but not ventilated enough. Though most students complain about bugs, my room is clean. However, I once found a squirrel in my leaving room just when I was going out of bathroom. It was scary for me because all the window and door were locked and yet it managed to get in through the roof. When I told office, they did not believe me because the squirrel went behind the stove and it hid. They looked at me and said it was impossible. I was to go to my class, I went out while the squirrel was in the apartment. When I came back they told me they got it after it went to another apartment and make a scene all the way through the corridor. On the positive side, if you have a request for maintenance like shower, drawer, or kitchen they will respond quickly. They also now change the sofa and the bed this fall.

UPA is one of the best places to live in Columbia. The price, the location, the amenities, and the service from the administration are all great assets of this place. It is a very welcoming environment that offers everything any student needs during her/his studies. My only suggestion for improvement is that the halls should have a better ventilation due to the odors that come from the apartments when people are cooking. But this is just an issue of minimum importance. I highly recommend this place to anyone.

University Place is a decent place to stay. The staff was friendly and responsive for the duration of my two year stay. The shower in the bathroom wasnt clean when I moved in and I had to call maintenance to get it cleaned. The lighting is really low in the rooms so its mostly dark. The wifi wasnt too great either.I liked how it was very close to campus though. That was a big plus. Be careful because they will raise your rent if you are trying to renew your lease with them.

I found the staff at University Place to be very kind, understanding, happy, and helpful. On one occasion I accidentally locked myself out of my apartment after hours in the middle of the night. I called the office number and was promptly put through to the right people who were extremely patient with me and made sure that I was back into my apartment as quickly as possible.

I lived in UPA this past year and absolutely loved it. I was on the first floor at the end of the hallway, right next to one of the exits so very easy access to get out and head to school in the morning. I attend Mizzou so it was perfect for me. I could literally see Memorial Union from my bedroom window. This apartment is good for a lot of reasons. It is affordable, the management is attentive and responsive, there are a decent amount of amenities, there is plenty of parking (for and extra fee per semester), it is practically on campus, the bedrooms are HUGE, the common area is nice. The kitchen is quite small but my roommate and I made it work.I was very busy this year and thus didnt spend much time at my apartment except for meals and sleeping. It was a great space and I felt really comfortable in the building.I would highly recommend this to anyone interested in an affordable place close to campus.

My fiance and I have lived here for the last 3 years and have absolutely loved it. I would definitely recommend to anyone, especially students since it is so close to campus. The fact that the apartment was fully furnished and all utilities included was a load off of our shoulders. Maintenance requests are always fulfilled in a timely manner and management is very accommodating and reasonable. There is a Gym located on the 2nd floor that is open 24/7 which came in handy since I worked late. The MU connected computer lab was very nice to have while I was attending classes. I am excited to see all the new furniture that will arrive in the Fall. Would definitely recommend to anyone!

I have had a great experience living here. The rent is inclusive of all utilities and Internet. You have to pay a one time fee when you move in for Internet router. This is attractive for students and working people alike. The apartment is very comfortable. The management is super friendly, kind and accommodative. Maintenance is fast. My maintenance problems have been resolved on the same day mostly. Their in-house gym is suitable for both cardio and strength training workouts. They have treadmill, elliptical, weights etc. The common areas are always kept clean. Laundry has to be done in the common area. We have to charge a laundry card that they provide when you move in to do laundry There are plenty of washer and drier units here. I have rarely had to wait to wash or dry my clothes. WiFi is super fast. All in all I would recommend people to take a look at this apartment building when they move to columbia and consider living here.

I stayed at UPA from November 2019 to March 2020 (I was a visiting researcher at Mizzou). The staff was always helpful, I cant complain about them. My apartment was clean and undamaged. They also accommodated me with a roommate within my preferences. I also got my security deposit back. The one thing I feel could be improved is the internet connection.

Best thing about this place is its location. Very convenient for anything and everything. Not pricey at all. Facilities are what you get for what you pay. Old complex. The apartment maintenance and furniture has gotten better over the period of time. They will replace/refurbish living room furniture and kitchen appliances as and when requested. Lucky to have had no bed bug complaints. They try to take preventive measures periodically. Internet was my only complaint here... Intermittent service.Need to be lucky to get good roommates, else it will be a pain. But the location and price overcomes any disadvantages.

I lived there in about 2 months and shared a room with another person.I have been happy for the whole stay. Unfortunately, I had to move out since I really prefer living by myself due to some personal reasons. The staff in there are very helpful and responded to your requests very quickly if anything went wrong. The location is great and very convenient for those students without cars. I would recommend people to check that place if they are searching for a nice place to stay.

This is a great place to live! Friendly staff, convenient location with a parking lot, and the gym has motivating colors. Management is very accommodating to everyones needs and maintenance responds quickly. No there isnt a pool or a tanning booth, but do any of those complexes actually clean those anyway? Only downside is the space is small and you only have access to heating or cooling depending on the season. Overall I recommend this complex!

Highly recommend living here!! Ive lived here for 3.5 years and thoroughly enjoyed living here. I wouldnt have continued to live here if I didnt like it. One of the main reasons I chose to continue living here is because of the close proximity to campus. Campus is literally across the street and I could walk to all my classes. The kitchen is quite small, but with strategic placement of small appliances is very functional. The bedrooms, bathroom, and living room are a great and come fully furnished which is awesome. The furniture can be removed if someone wished to bring their own. The couches are great for napping. WiFi, cable, water, and electric are included in the rent price. The staff are really friendly. Everyone always said hello to me as I passed, held the door open, and were really polite. Maintenance requests are also completed as soon as possible. There is also a computer lab located in the lobby which is supplied by the University of Missouri so students can use their print quota here.

My experience here was miserable. My stove and oven didnt work and when my roommate and I repeatedly asked for maintenance to fix it, they would fix it and it would break within a day to a week. Its not maintenances fault... This apartment is old so there are bound to be problems. Heat/cooling system was terrible and I asked maintenance to fix it and nothing changed. I was so hot during the summer I actually slept with ice on my bed. I got used to the smell but it is extremely strong. Its close to campus and utilities are free, but that was the only two nice things about it for me. The apartment that they show you before you rent from them is completely different from what unit you will actually have, dont be easily fooled. I wish I lived somewhere else even if it wouldve been farther away and a little more expensive. Your comfort and happiness is worth it.

I have been living at University Place for 3 years and have enjoyed it. First, I feel safe here due to the security doors and cameras. The staff members are friendly, helpful, and cool to talk to. There is full time staff that work to keep the place up to date and clean. When I put in a maintenance request, they do a pretty good job with following up with everything. There is also a computer lab downstairs which is very convenient, and it is linked through the university so you are able to access a lot of software and use your printing balance. The walking distance from campus, is like four steps... Cable and internet work just fine. I have no problem with the internet. All and all, its a pretty good place for the distance from campus and the management is cooler than the other side of the pillow.

I lived at UPA for two years, and can attest to how friendly and responsive maintenance staff were. I always got quick replies, and they were willing to be flexible about payments and other issues. They were prompt about emergency fixes. The location is excellent: right by campus and a quick walk from downtown. The price is very affordable considering that its a fully furnished apartment and the rent includes utilities. There is a bus stop right outside UP servicing two routes to major grocery stores. Covered parking spaces are available which is a huge bonus since campus/downtown parking isnt always easy to find. I would highly recommend this apartment to new students who are moving to CoMo for the first time!

Ive lived here at University Place Apartments for three years and I love it here. Each year Ive been here they have worked on renovating the apartment Im in. Getting new furniture the first summer and last summer I received a new kitchen! The managers are very friendly and willing to work with the tenant on any issue they may have. I feel the reviews Ive read on this site are quite unfair; while the place might not be some extravagantly outfitted apartment complex like the den or brookside, I feel the management is far better than youll get there and the apartments are nice. I want future tenants to know this is a great place to live and Ive already renewed my lease for next year! The rent is reasonable for being right on campus and the utilities are included. That includes cable and internet. The apartments come fully furnished. I highly recommend this place! As any Realtor would say, Location, Location, Location!

UPDATES 2019:Ive lived here with my dog (ESA) for a few years now (as an undergrad and graduate student) and am kind of sad to go! The positive connection I have had with managment and maintence staff is unlike any place I have lived before. They truly take the needs and requests of tenants seriously, and that is something you will not get from big-market complexes in this area.Updates such as the coffee bar, gym, and study lounge make this a great place to call home. It is also SUPER close to downtown boutiques, restaurants, and shops, as well as classes on campus. They have also improved upon their planting/floral decor around the building and it looks nice.Previous review 2018:Not a bad place to live. The building isn’t modern, so the living spaces are a bit outdated looking, with inexpensive furniture and amenities. The only real issue I’ve run into lately is the heating and cooling of the apartment: management only has the central air or heat turned on after a certain temperate is reached. One week, it was 60 degrees outside for three days and two days of snow and the AC was turned on. The next week consisted of 70 degree weather and the AC wasn’t turned on, and my apartment (in the main building) was 77 degrees!Maintenance issues are always fixed in a timely manner. As long as you keep a clean living space you shouldn’t have to worry about pest issues. The walls are thin, so you can often hear random neighbors singing or chatting. Overall, pricing isn’t bad and you can’t beat the location!

I lived at University Place Apartment for 3 years. This apartment is across the campus, 10 mins walk to engineering building and 3 mins to Memorial Union. It is nice that UP is fully furnished apartment, so as a student with bunch of hw and assignments I dont need to think about electricity, water, or gas bills.Even tho the building is old, but it is very well taken care of. Ive lived at UPA for just over three years and the experience here has been really good. You couldnt ask for a better location which makes getting to class on time a breeze. The apartments are fully furnished, so you dont have to haul any heavy furniture, making move in easy. The apartments are reasonably priced for everything thats included. The full-time staff are very friendly. The few times Ive had to make a maintenance request, it has been taken care of in a timely manner. The computer lab is a plus, allowing you to print from your Mizzou print allowance, so you dont need to rush somewhere on campus to get something printed off before class. Management is very understanding, all you have to do is communicate with them and let them know whats going on. They will work with you to resolve any issues that may arise, such as trouble paying rent. All in all, Im happy to be here as I finish up my time at Mizzou.

EXTREMELY RUDE front desk person. I faxed over a document after taking the number off of the front page of their website (listed under contact information), and tried sending it twice since it did not go through. I receive a call where a man starts off saying aggressively YOU HAVE TO STOP FAXING ME OR LEARN HOW TO FOLLOW DIRECTIONS. I asked him who he was and he stated UPA, then I said I took the fax number off his website which does NOT state that you have to call first in order to send a fax. I apologized for not knowing this information (not that there was any of knowing from their website), but the man continued to be rude and did not apologize. The hostility was in no way warranted and was certainly unprofessional.

Aside from my freshman year in the dorms, I’ve lived at UPA during the entirety of my undergrad. It’s true that the building is older than other complexes around town, but they’ve made updates to the apartments each year and have continued to be of excellent value for students. ALL utilities are included with your rent payment at UPA, a renting “pro” that’s difficult to find elsewhere in Columbia; basic furniture is also included (desks, beds, couch, tables, etc.). Something I appreciate about UPA is that you don’t have to spend a fortune to live across the street from campus. Go to apartment complexes downtown and you’ll be paying twice the price per person, per month on rent...and that’s not considering a parking permit. If you choose to resign your lease with UPA, you’ll lock in the next year’s rent payments at the current year’s rates. The fact that the complex is located across the street from campus is extremely convenient, and makes it easy to live at school without the requirement of a car.I can’t attest to utilizing UPA’s parking lot, though it does seem like a tight fit. However, the parking space prices are similar to those of the commuter lots on campus, so it wouldn’t be hard to find nearby parking elsewhere, if preferred.Washers and dryers are provided on the main floor of the building, with a $2 fee/wash and dry. Money for this must be in the form of cash, that is loaded onto a card that each washer and dryer reads. This is another convenient aspect of living at UPA, as you don’t need to drag your laundry across town to find a decent laundromat. Even my fiance, who lives at an apartment down the street, prefers to do his laundry at UPA than his apartment’s sketchy laundry room.I’ve always had a great experience with the staff and have consistently gotten a quick response from maintenance, the few times I’ve needed it. In fact, last year when another tenant above us was misusing the shower and caused a leak in our ceiling, we called the emergency maintenance line late Friday night and had the problem fixed within the hour.Another thing to mention is that I’ve never had bug problems like those described by some of the other reviewers. We’ve had the occasional bug appear in our apartment, but usually as a result of leaving the windows open...not at all the apartment’s fault.Overall, UPA is a great place to live, especially as a student. I would definitely recommend living here!

UPA is a really good place to live if the following aspects are the most important for you:1. Location. I am a grad student at the university of Missouri. It only takes me 8 to 10 minutes to reach my building. UPA is also 5 minutes away from WalMart Express and the main restaurants in downtown. If you need to go to Ellis Library, Memorial Union, Student Center or even to the Rec Center it will take you less than 8 minutes. In conclusion, every essential place for an MU student is at walkable distance from UPA.2. Price. There are two options offered. You either share the apartment with another person (each of you will have a separate room) or with another three persons (2 persons per room). The place includes basic furniture which is really convenient (I am an international student and I did not want to buy furniture so for me this aspect was really important). The price also includes all the utilities. So what you pay includes everything! (Except food obviously!)3. Maintenance. The maintenance guys are the best. The time of response is almost immediate. They know how to fix everything. If your internet is not working, your thermostat is broken or even if you want to put curtains in your room or a mirror... They can help you!Honestly, is not the fanciest place, but the price is fair for what you get. And an additional thing I did not think about at first, but I am really glad I got from this place, is a really diverse and multicultural environment with neighbors from all around the world.Hope this review helps you and Welcome to Mizzou!!!
