CycleX is 1.5 hours from our home. Worth the drive. Many bikes on display. Bikes come assembled and ready to ride.. Friendly, knowledgeable staff. Bought electric bikes for my husband and myself. Had trouble with battery release on my bike. Concern was weather and time before leaving for trip to have bike repaired and picked up. Staff was great to meet our needs and kept us informed of progress. Highly recommend.

My dad and I went to get two of our bikes to get repaired. We thought it would cost over hundreds of dollars, but the cost was astonishing! They asked us very kindly about what was wrong and then they took the bikes in right away. They fixed our bikes in about 20 minutes and the quality of the fix was amazing. They were very quick and kind, and overall it was the best experience of a bike shop my dad and I ever had!

I went in looking for an innertube that was quite a bit skinnier than Id ever seen, didnt even know if they existed. As soon as I walked in a guy approached me, I explained what I was looking for and that I needed it for a project rather than an actual bike. He asked me if a used one would work, I said yes, he handed me a used one in the right size and said I can have it...for free. Yes, for free. Im not really in to biking, but Ill definitely go to Cyclex for anything I need thats even somewhat related just off the strength of that specific situation.

This place is EVERYTHING bicycles and nothing else! They are the only Giant dealer in Columbia and only 1 of 2 in mid-MO. Giant is the largest producer of solid quality bikes. And now they have a line ergonomically designed just for women called LIV bikes. I bought a 2020 model for greater biking stability on hilly gravel roads. There were some issues with the mechanics of this newer model, but the folks here went above and beyond to make it right. Ive referred a friend here and he was satisfied with the used model he purchased. I would recommend these folks. They are not only customer friendly, but pet friendly too. Often there are cats & a sweet old dog here. Who doesnt love to see that?They also own the seasonal bike rental place in Rocheport. Since I have my own bikes, I dont use them, but have heard from others who have and say the rentals are nice bikes in good condition unlike what it was in past years.

Still a bit salty about my Trek repairs. But these guys recognized my stolen bike a year and two months after it was stolen. And thats a long time to remember a bike. It is back home now. Thank you Cyclex.

I found this shop after failing to find decent customer service at other bike shops in the area. As soon as I entered the store, I knew these guys were who I was looking for. They were very knowledgeable of bikes and helped me find the perfect bike for me, a Specialized Crossroads 2.0. They had a solid inventory and all the accessories I needed. I drove an hour and a half from Kirksville just to give these guys my business. I can’t recommend them enough.

They have a good selection of mostly specialized bikes. The employee was super helpful answered all my questions and seemed very energetic. We did not end up buying from there because we decided on another brand that they did not carry.They did have a great selection of all the different sizes of the same models. Thats really helpful when youre trying to buy for teenagers. I would recommend them.

This is truly a terrific business. Needed a bike repair on a Saturday, they dont normally do it, but after explaining, they said to come right over. They fixed it in a few minutes and we were good to go. Truly amazing customer service!

I have bought 3 bikes from here. They carry some of the best brands out there. With big brands comes bigger price. It would be nice to see them carry some lesser known brands. Service was always good an staff is friendly. They are involved in local bike community and it is always good to see them out there. If I need a new bike, I definitely look here first.

I came in needing a repair on a bike that I commute with daily. They were very busy, but let me leave it to see if they could fit it in. They finished it before the end of the day! They were so helpful and reasonably priced. They didnt try to sell me repairs I didnt need. They called to keep me updated just as they promised. They also are building a good connection to the community. Community rides leave from the shop. Check the website or call. This is the bike shop that moved and renamed from cycle extreme. It is under new management and is going great! It is easiest to get to turning right into the parking lot going south on Providence or turning in from Ash St.

This place is amazing! Such great staff and nice bikes to buy and rent! We did a full day rental and the staff were incredibly helpful, provided wonderful recommendations on which bikes to rent and where to stop and eat on the trail! They also rent helmets which is a huge plus! Overall if you want to rent or buy a bike or gear go to this place! They are fantastic all around!!!

Two years ago I showed up for Womens Ride Wednesday not having ever ridden anywhere but the Katy Trail (not very many times) and I didnt know how to shift. Sure, I could shift...but it doesnt mean anything if you dont know what it means and why. Angela Peterson said No problem, I will help you! and she did! After riding with the WRW group a couple months I ordered my first nice bike - a Diverge E5 Comp gravel bike. Last month I bought a Fuse Comp 29 Mountain Bike. Thanks to Angela, BK and John for all your help and for not running when I walk in the door with more questions, and thanks for taking care of my bikes whenever I have something going on. You all rock!

I would recommend this place to anyone. I have purchased 3 road bikes from Tom and have been happy with the bikes and the customer service they provided. Tom and crew have always been very helpful and accommodating in recommending bikes that suit my budget and use, and responsive when I had questions. John and Aaron helped me in my most recent purchase, setting up and fitting me for a couple test rides of different bikes. They also scheduled us in for quick tune-ups (which are free with the purchase of a bike), fixed a BB issue for me, and John even showed up after hours to accommodate our schedule last year, which was a big plus considering we live 90 minutes away - unexpected, and much appreciated. Of course they can order anything, and are competitive in pricing even with the online stores, but theyve got the largest selection around. All around great LBS.

A shop so new that it has not yet had time to become overly cluttered, yet featuring a broad selection of bikes, accessories, and clothing, which is supplanted by giant online inventory. A knowledgeable staff overseen by an owner so young that he actually enjoys attending to his customers (even those from out of town), yet sufficiently experienced to solve intractable problems and deftly advise those seeking assistance. Perhaps the best overall shopping experience Ive ever encountered in a bike shop.

Rented a bike from Cyclex for a trip down to Rocheport and had a wonderful experience! The staff was very nice and helpful (even helping me load the bike into my car), the trip was lovely, and the bike worked great! I wasnt able to return the bike in exactly 24 hours after I had rented it but they were very nice and understanding about it. Highly recommend!

When I came in, I wasnt sure about buying a bike, as it was the first time since I was 13 that I was looking at them. I bought a bike for my 9 yr old daughter - they were over helpful from the beginning, and the bike we settled on was perfect - up to the point when I ran over the bike in the garage. They helped me to source a new wheel, and then Tom went above and beyond to get the front forks straightened. They know what they are talking about, they are very helpful (and not condescending like some of the other bike shops in town) and I really dont believe they will rip you off. They are in it for the long haul. A pleasure having them around.

I have bought a couple bicycles from Cycle Extreme, countless tubes, tires, parts and accessories here and I firmly believe that Cycle Extreme is the friendliest place in town. They dont just talk to you, they compassionately care about what you are looking for, looking to do (trail, road, Cross, etc) and they will guide you if you ask for their input. The owner, Tom, is as good of a guy as you will ever meet on the street and he brings that personality to the business. You can also rely on the staff to be friendly even when they are swamped with the busy demands of our bicycling community and they are the best in town so why wouldn’t they be busy. You can’t go wrong with shopping here and don’t be afraid to ask questions. That’s what they are here for and they truly will take the time to share knowledge. I went to every bicycle shop in town determined to find the best bike for my situation and budget. While I can’t say I had a bad experience at any shop the best experience was definitely cyclex. Angela did an amazing job of answering any questions I had and I have no complaints. Ended up making a purchase I am more than happy with and I will be returning to cyclex any time I need parts advice or another bike in the future.

I bought my Giant bike three years ago at Cyclex, and they are doing a great job to help me keep my bike in the best condition since then.

I came home to find out that a random kids bike was in my yard from my neighborhood, the chain was rusty, the spoke (if Im calling it the right thing) was untrue, the tires were flat, a sharp cable was sticking out and there were no safety lights to speak of. I packed up the bike and took it in to Cyclex, I walked in and John gave me an estimate for Tuesday, but I told him what I was up to and he helped me greatly! Even though they were about to close and had other things to do. Didnt charge me for a lick of labor! ( I did buy a little safety light for the bike though ; ).. ) Way better service for a much lower price than Wilsons! Id recommend them anyday!!

I purchased my bike two or three years ago at Cyclextreme and have been back a time or two for tune-ups, for a new tire {picked up glass, no fault of theirs} and to buy equipment for my bike. The service has been outstanding and the prices very fair. Ive mainly dealt with Tom, Teresa and BK and theyve been terrific. I would highly recommend this store for products and service.

Bought my first serious bike from CycleX in 2006 and have received support, tuneups, troubleshooting from the patient staff. No pressure to buy. Just purchased my second bike in 2017 and had the same knowledgeable and friendly experience—no hard sell—just support, patience and sharing of knowledge. Tom invited me to continue to use the him and his staff for support as I try to reach new cycling goals.

Mr. Brinker always ran a great shop when I was at MU, and although he has since sold the business, the new ownership is incredibly talented and competent and passionate about cycling. I was a member of the cycling team at Mizzou (my time there overlapped with one of the new owners time on the team, as well), and now work in the cycling industry myself. The shop is well stocked with a great mix of new bicycles and other products and accessories for your cycling needs - repair parts, cycling computers, apparel, helmets, shoes. The service staff was always top notch.

Both the staff and bikes were fantastic! My wife and I rented two bikes and rode the MKT and Katy trail to Rocheport, ate lunch, and rode back. Wonderful experience! If you need anything bike related in Columbia you should go here! I can tell you that you will be taken care of!!

I go out of my way to do business here. Great guys, team atmosphere, not always the best selection, but call ahead if you need specific parts. To some of the other reviews:Ok, every LBS gets busy. If you have trouble getting noticed and REFUSE to ask for help....well, heres your sign. If you dont want to replace your helmet after five years, I question whether or not you are saving for retirement. Dont replace an old helmet...we need organ donors. I have been shopping here for years, always been treated with respect and that is more than you can say for most any LBS. Only 4 stars due to in stock selection.

Not the best to go up hills re: power of motor, but its light enough where you can pedal and the bike will move. The seat is hard, no lie. I had to stuff my pants with a blanket just to ride it for a while.Otherwise, my hindparts could not take it. The cost can range from 30-50 bucks for 24 hour rental. Its worth it. I had loads of fun, even if it cant go up hills very well. I liked the experience. It performed well on the trail.

Nice people who are cycling enthusiasts. They know their stuff.

They overpromised on when they could have my new bike ready by at least a week. I bought one from someone else. Also one of their salesmen told me that my five-year old helmet was dried out and so wouldnt offer as much protection. This is a common myth, but still a myth.Its got a nice layout. Ask what their crate deal is. You can usually get a great deal on something they bought in bulk.

Called 3 weeks ago to confirm they had a bike in stock. Gave them my information and size said they would hold the bike until the owner returned. No call back from the store and when I called to follow-up they informed me they sold the bike.However Tom the manager did call me back and apologize for the confusion as they might have had the wrong contact details and were willing to find me another bike if I needed it.

I would recommend Cycle Extreme to any cyclist , recreational or experienced. Tom Brinker and his crew always go the extra mile to make sure that when you purchase a bike it fits correctly and to provide service/repairs over the life of the bike for maximum performance, safety and enjoyment. Not an experienced cyclist? Don’t expect to be treated any differently here in terms of the time and attention you receive. They have fixed untold number of flats for me over the years and answered all of my questions with kindness, even the ones I feel embarrassed to ask (e.g., Why isn’t my cycling computer working?). This is one of those unusual stores where the owner and staff genuinely care about the needs of their cycling customers in terms of fitness, competition, or enjoyment, not just the bottom line. I would be hard pressed to come up with another store of any kind where I have received better customer service.

I have had problems with my bike purchased at cycxtreme, but problems can happen with any bike, regardless of cost. These guys have stood behind their product and given great service. Dont by online unless you know what your doing. There isnt a replacement for a real bike shop and this is a good one.

The only thing Extreme about this place is its mediocrity.I went in here tonight (11 Aug 2015) looking to try out a couple sizes of bikes, Im not sure if Im looking for a medium or a large. I have longer arms than normal for my height, so sizing can be goofy for me. I am looking for a change after riding mountain bikes for 14+ years.I was in this LBS for about 45 minutes with zero acknowledgement that I was even in the store. After making eye contact with every employee there in a vain attempt to solicit some help, I finally decided to leave. As I made my way to the door someone finally acknowledged me as a customer.It wasnt as though the place was busy either. One customer was being rang up for his purchases. The second looked as though he was picking up his bike from from the shop guys. They were both long gone before I lost my patience.I will only be going back here to make sure I pick out the correct size, but Ill be damned if I give a joke LBS any money. I will however, gladly make the drive to one of the other nearly 20 Missouri Specialized dealers to purchase my new bike. Right now I am looking at Sunshine Bike Shop in Springfield for my new Specialized Sirrus Expert Carbon Disc.I also need some work on my current Giant, Ill just take it to Klunks! Bicycle & Repair here in town too. No reason to let people this unprofessional touch my current ride.Cheers,

Cyclex is where I bought my first Road bike, as well as a number of other family bikes since. They made sure my ride fit, and have been excellent at helping my entire family make good purchase decisions, and improve their performance, over the years.

CycleExtreme is my shop of choice. It is a cool shop with a awesome vibe.....Big, open and just plain cool. First and foremost, in my opinion, bike shops are weird. Some may be too much, or the employees are too grabby or push you to buy things. This will depend on the individual who walks in the store. I suspect that if a cyclist who has been racing bikes for 10 years compared to a person buying their first road bike both walk into a bike shop on separate occasions - they will have a dissimilar perception of how that shop (or the first person in that shop to look at them or speak to them) treated them. Did they say nothing? Did they say too much? Where they all over me and breathing down my neck telling me to buy this or that. This being said - I just want to say that my experience with CycleX started as the latter person described above and has continued as my involvement in the sport has evolved. CycleX is capable and able to help the novice cyclist to the pro and everything in between. They are great people and want to get anyone and everyone of 2 wheels. Id recommend them to anyone!

Purchased a new Cannondale bike for my 4 year old son. First ride, the training wheels came off and led to an accident and early end to our first outing on the Katy Trail. Emailed and the shop and they said, sorry thats rare for us. 2 weeks later, was riding and the pedal came off on the next Katy Trail Ride. Shop contacted me and offered to pick up the bike to tune it and redeliver it to ensure my son was ready to rock and roll with no further problems

We visited Columbia recently and rented bicycles here for a half day. We rode the MKT to the Katy Trail and back. Everyone at Cyclextreme was exceptionally friendly and helpful, especially good as we had not ridden bikes of any type in a very long time. We thought that the bike rental rates and rental process are very favorable.When we had happened to stop by the prior evening just after closing time, they were very courteous and informative about what to do the next day, and also gave us a great recommendation for where to eat dinner. We highly recommend Cyclextreme.

Have everything you need, but the staff left me with an impression they really werent interested in selling unless you take what is on the floor. Getting a bike with the components you want that are offered from the maker is hit and miss. This is what we have, take it or leave it. Maybe I was just there at the wrong time (someone was out sick/ at break), but Ill try another shop if Im in need of a new bike.

Friendly, fast, helpful, and charged a fair price for diagnosing and repairing a few minor things wrong with my bike. And a location I can easily bike to from work!
