I have been a regular for about 5 years now and always have had a great experience. My usual barber no longer cuts here, so I decided to give a “new” one a shot due to my previous great experiences. ALEX cut my hair and is “new” to the shop but has more than a decade of experience cutting hair, it shows. Best haircut I’ve had in 5+ years in Columbia. He listened to my suggestions and gave me the cut I truly wanted. A great establishment all around, if you’re new ask for Alex! He did an excellent job and I’ve found my new barber! Complimentary beer doesn’t hurt either!

Jodi did a great job on my beard trim and my head shave and straight razor shave. Great atmosphere and nothing better than enjoying an adult beverage while I waited. I highly recommend Southern Gentlemans Barber Shop and will definitely be back.

They should be honest with clients. If you can’t cut, you have to let the client know that you can’t cut. Don’t just cut people hair and thinking that it the right cut. Have to do better of being honest. I have never left a review until today. 👎

I started coming here before COVID took its toll on the local economy. I love the atmosphere and all the barbers are great. I have used Caleb and Mack and they have done great jobs on myself and my boys. Their scheduling system is phenomenal in that it can project out any date and time you’d like and then it sends you reminders the day before and day of your appointment. So long as we live in Columbia SC this will be my place to get my haircut.

I felt so bad asking Jackie to cut my hair. I hadn’t had a haircut since right before the March 2020 shutdown, so it was past my shoulders, and I really wanted to get back to a short style. She laughed it off and did an AMAZING job! So grateful for her skills and sense of humor. I’ll be requesting Jackie every time now!

From the moment I walked in, this was a superior experience. Being offered a beer while I waited was cool, but I had a great time with Regina, who cut my hair and trimmed my beard to perfection. My wife was very impressed when I met her afterwards, and that was the best endorsement I can give.I was also happy that, while the service was excellent and definitely of a premium quality, the atmosphere was that of a pure, good old fashioned barbershop.Ill be returning for certain.

Showed the barber a picture from after a previous haircut and then received a totally rushed haircut which looks like no other haircut I’ve ever received. Could’ve probably done the job myself to be honest.

My third visit here and I am thrilled by the level of service provided from every employee Ive had the pleasure to interact with. While waiting free refreshments are offered for your enjoyment while relaxing in some really comfortable decor. The refreshments include a selection of ice cold beers. All the traditional barber services are provided. Including shaves and beard shaping. Everyone is friendly and the space is inviting. Parking is typical for the 5 points area, there is however a small parking lot available to customers behind the building and the barber shop has a second entrance with access to the parking lot. Look for the image of the barber pole on the door to find the back entrance.

5 stars all the way. Jackie was excellent. Took her time to make sure my haircut was perfect. First person who has ever taken actually taken the time to fix my cowlick ( didn’t know you could) She knew exactly what to do without me even having to say anything. 5/5 stars!

I went here recently to cut off the long hair I had grown out over the pandemic. I had Regina and she absolutely killed it! She gave a perfectly shaped and even undercut. I will definitely be coming back here.

Went in today for a haircut after a few recommendations. Told the gentleman exactly how I like it cut. Zero around the ears and tapered up and longer on the sides. Next thing I see he cut it super short. He said it was a miscommunication because he thought I’d want it shorter being military. You should never assume with someone’s haircut. Basically everything I said in the beginning he didn’t listen to. Will not be returning.

Front desk check-in was great, already know my name from my online scheduled appointment and got me seated quickly. Rick was my barber and he was great. He took time at the beginning to listen to me bumble about with how I think Id like my hair cut. He made great suggestions and explained the details of the haircut. They aim for a certain type of hair. They do not do all types of hair. We had an appointment and got there on time and we sat for another 15 minutes still didnt get seen so we left because people were coming in the door and sitting in the chairs and when I went to go and ask why we didnt get in a chair yet she replied that were waiting on our Barber to get here. They basically dont cut black people hair or have anybody skilled enough to do so period. First and last time trying them.

They scheduled my appointment for the wrong time,I drove two hours to be turned away. Had this but happened, it might have gone well. It seems as though most people are satisfied with their experiences.

Wow, always an awesome experience when I come into southern gentlemens Barber shop. I always have Jackie cut my hair because she takes the extra time to find out exactly what I want and she always makes me look good even though I have multiple cowlicks. She even takes extra steps to make sure I dont have hair in my shirt so that I can be comfortable the rest of the day after the haircut. Of course I always have her wash my hair after, and thats my favorite part because she always gives me a nice head massage and makes sure all the loose hair is washed out. Great place to go if you like excellent customer service and I recommend Having Jackie trim you up!

I have had my hair cut here about five times over the course of two years. I would describe it as a 10/10 environment, as they have a great drink selection and a great ambience. The customer service is often good too but the actual haircut itself is inconsistent. A half inch scissor cut off of the top sometimes means two inches off the top here and other times means half an inch. As someone whose hair doesnt grow fast, this is extremely frustrating. I understand that mistakes can happen and not all barbers are the same person but, regardless, I want the haircut I ask for, not the haircut someone feels like giving me. The clipper work has also been inconsistent. Ive had great fades from this place before with very clean lines all around while other times I leave with a very jagged and uneven cut. Although I truly enjoy the setting and the feel of the place-- I dont enjoy paying over $30 (after tip) for a haircut that is on par with GreatClips/SportClips.

I am 8 years old and I have been seeing Mrs. Jodi at the shop for a year now. She is a great barber and very nice. She always makes sure to cut my hair exactly how I want it. Mrs. Jodi shaves the back of my neck each time and always uses a hot towel. I love that! Mrs. Jodi is the best because she can fix your hair even when you make a mistake and you try cutting it yourself!

I highly recommend Jackie if anyone is looking for a professional and tight fade. I naturally have coarse hair with a thick follicle and medium porosity. This means that my hair density is lower than folks with thin, delicate hair. As a result, my hair is VERY unforgiving and will show lines or poor blending if the fade is not near perfect. Jackie, however, gave one of if not the best fade I’ve ever received. She is very attentive, extremely friendly, and very knowledgeable about how to care for various hair types. (I swam professionally and still subject my hair to chlorine regularly.) Having visited many barbers and salons with stylists who just nod and do whatever they want, Jackie actively engages with you to make sure she executes exactly what you want. For example, I hate when people completely shave off their sideburns, giving them this creepy televangelist or Lego hair. I prefer to have my sideburns stop at the tragus, which is the pointy part of the outer ear. I couldn’t be happier with the result. You will not regret requesting Jackie for a shave, eyebrow waxing, or haircut.

I have come here many times and I have never had a bad haircut here. Staff is generally friendly and good at what they do. Just wanted to say that I came here earlier today saw Aisha. It was the best haircut I have ever had in my life. She asked for my input about my preferences throughout my haircut and even gave me a suggestion about how the back should be done. Our conversation was nice but not overbearing. I would definately recommend her especially if you have thick hair.

Fantastic cut

Crazy expensive, which I would not mind if I had a great experience. People were nice but my haircut wasnt $20 good. I came for the shave but was told only one person knew how to use the straight razor. I paid $43 for a neck trim and shave with electric razor. I could have left without paying but decided to just pay up and leave a bad review instead. At least they had beer.
