Ive been at National Karate for two years now and I have been meaning to write a review for quite sometime. Having a 1st degree Black Belt from a different karate School (Okinawan Kempo), I can easily say that the Head Instructor, Mr Kuntzs approach to teaching is above average if not the best. During classes, I always feel challenged and get an amazing workout. After class I always feel very empowered and full of energy. I signed up my husband for classes as well and as he says, having never been a sports guy he absolutely loves martial arts now and feels like his body can do more than ever thought would be possible. The atmosphere in the Adults class is awesome and because of it, we have made some great lifelong friends. I dont have kids yet myself, but Ive sat in on several Tots classes and I cant imagine any better way to instill discipline and the ever important self-defense lesson on Stranger Danger for young kids. Thanks National Karate!

I joined this karate school in February and have not been disappointed!!! 3 years ago I had a job transfer away from Minnesota, where National Karate is well-known and a reputation for excellence. When I moved to Colorado recently I was thrilled to find a National Karate School and beyond thrilled to see the level of excellency is even more than I anticipated.Mr. Kuntz is firm with a great sense humor that keeps you motivated.LOVE THIS SCHOOL!!! Can’t wait to finish out my black belt dream!

Mr. Kuntz is excellent with our kids. Weve been here for over a year and the kids have learned valuable lessons in self-defense. Mr. Kuntz brings energy to every lesson and keeps the kids attention in class. His assistants are solid instructors and help to create the positive family culture that we were seeking in a martial arts school.

My son has been a student here for 2 months now. Mr. Kuntz is an excellent karate instructor! He has the perfect blend of discipline, encouragement, and humor to promote a class that works hard at learning technique while having a lot of fun and feeling inspired. There is also a fair amount of instruction on self defense for real life situations which I can appreciate as a parent. The longer I know Mr. Kuntz the more I see his passion and joy for teaching karate to kids.

I cannot say enough good things about NK & Mr. Kuntz. This is the real deal, not just a belt factory. Our son has been going here for about the past 6 months and not only does he love it, we love it too. On top on learning karate, he is learning life skills and continuing to build confidence. Would recommend to anyone interested.

I joined National Karate after spending a significant amount of time training at another local school with my two boys. I left that other school due to an overall lack of excellence, guidance, structure and ultimately good karate. I found NK after searching and reading reviews and have not been disappointed. My sons and I have been training under Mr. Kuntz for more than a year and the growth in our karate, abilities, and knowledge can not be overstated. I wish we would’ve made the move to National Karate much sooner than we did. Simply can’t say enough good things about National Karate and Mr. Kuntz.

Mr. Kuntz and National Karate have been an intricate part of my childrens growth. The classes are informative and fun. Mr. Kuntz is one that will not beat around the bush and he keeps the kids up to date with current events. He ensures that the children are getting the best defense skills. If we were not leaving town this school would be a staple in our daily activities.

National Karate is definitely one of the best studios around. I looked at several when my youngest son told me he wanted to learn karate, and Im so glad I found this place! It is, by far, the best value out of any other studio I looked at; no hidden or extra fees and the most class options/availability out there for the lowest price. Mr. Kuntz is an exceptional instructor who really cares about his students and the art of karate and will go out of his way to make sure they understand the moves and get whatever help they need. Even the families who go there are super supportive. I honestly could not be happier that we found NK!

He is vocal and sets high standards, yet he is encouraging and the kids love him. If you are looking for a place fight competitively NK and Mr. Kuntz will get you there! He has given my young son the guidance and confidence to be a successful competitor who looks forward to class every day.

Mr. Kuntz and his school have provided my daughter much more than I could have ever anticipated. I knew nothing about karate when my 4 year old asked to take classes. Its sooo much more than learning the mechanics. Mr. Kuntz uses humor, silliness, and tough love to coax the best out of each and every one of his students. This is no easy task in a class full of 4 and 5 year olds! He teaches respect, perseverance and hard work. He helps students set short and long term goals for themselves. He creates a family atmosphere that carries beyond the classroom walls. He goes above and beyond to ensure the experience is more than just a 30 minute class. I have been thrilled with his assistants as well. All have been wonderful role models for my daughter.

My oldest son was eight years old when we signed him up for karate in Minnesota at National Karate. This is when we met Mr Kuntz, the director of that school then. Because of his GREAT attitude and charismatic personality, my wife and I also signed up and made it a family thing. We think the world of his ability to get people to realize their own abilities. He teaches through the use of compliment sandwiches meaning that he will give constructive criticism along with positive reinforcement. This is great way teach and coach. When he came back to our school to visit recently, all of the students lined up to hear what he had to say, as eagerly as if he were still their director. His positive influence is still felt many states away. He is an integral part of the NK family that will continue to grow through Mr Kuntz. We are still students there and would recommend Mr Kuntz and National Karate school to everyone.

I have never had any problems with Mr.Kuntz or Chris, and for Chirs to go around and bad mouth Mr.Kuntz because he did not like how something was done and act childish is wrong. I have seen Mr.Kuntz put his heart and soul into everyone of his students. And it reflects at tournaments where we have been praised for how well our instructor is, and one of those people were you Chris.

My experience with Mr Kuntz has been the best experience for my kids and I. He pushed me to be my best i can be I earned my black belt under him and feel I got my moneys worth of it. I spent time teaching under him and credit how I teach to him and the students have his legacy that he has given us.As a parent, I am pleased with what he gave my son. My son is now traveling around the country to fight. My son still credits what Mr Kuntz thought him on his fighting skills. The confidence my son has, has given him so many opportunities. He started with Mr Kuntz when he was 7 years old, now going into high school, he believe in himself academicly as well as sports. He spends his time with kids for karate and are more concerned that they all give there best in school as well life.My daughter started when she was in the tots program. She is now a black belt and in middle school. She has the confidants to not follow the bad crowed. All her friends at school are fellow karate students and they keep each other safe and are there for each other. These values what Me Kuntz thought them, as a parent in todays day it makes me feel a lot better about my kids out in this worldMe Kuntz, thank you for all you do... and know that you have made a life long friend.

Damn, people cry over the smallest things in life when the whole world is suffering and people dying of cancer. Get over it! Why act like a child and cry over spilled milk. What kind of person brings their whole family into bs teenage drama. Get real! Go on with your lives and stop being so immature. This whole thing sounds like we are back in middle school. Get a life!!!!!! Go help the homeless or do something useful instead of bitching about minor things. P.S. Someone said Im Mr Kuntz . lol I wish I was but Mr Kuntz is not responding to immature comments like the one you just made about me Mr Kuntz is to busy for the bs. What you just said proves all the lies you people spit out.

David Kuntz has done more for his students, staff and parents than most people would ever do for anyone, including their own family. He is patient and diligent when teaching martial arts to his students. He has an incredible way of drawing out the best in his students. He pushes them and helps them realize their true potential. But understand, this quality and expectation isnt just a David Kuntz thing, this is a National Karate thing. NK Colorado Springs, NK Chicago, NK Wisconsin and NK Minnesota are by no stretch of the imagination a McDojo type of organization. Anyone walking in the doors expecting Mr. Kuntz-- or any NK owner or director in any state for that matter -- to roll over and hand a student a belt promotion because mommy or daddy has deep pockets or got a bug up their butts about a disagreement with the instructor, youre sadly mistaken. Students will EARN every promotion. NK has a very high standard and we do everything in our power as instructors to help our students live up to that standard. Nothing is ever just given. And if a trust is broken or betrayed just know this will resonate across the NK family. David Kuntz is an amazing and influential part of our great establishment. His reputation, accomplishments and successes in MN preceded him when he struck out west to expand the company. He has continued to cultivate and command greatness from his students as he did in MN. The way I understand it, Kuntzs students are kicking butt and taking names on the tourney circuit in CS. Guess what, THAT IS NOT AN ACCIDENT!!! Those students have one hell of a coach, mentor, instructor, director and school owner in their corner. Ive watched this man in action for many years and I can tell you first hand, he is only just getting started. If you are a parent of a student at CS NK and are proud of your students hard work and accomplishments thus far under Mr. Kuntzs instruction, just you wait, it gets better! Hard work and due diligence always pays off. And Kuntz will accept nothing less than your students best effort. Life lessons.

This post is in response to Chris Lippards review. I disagree wholeheartedly with his review regarding Mr. Kuntzs teaching ability. My daughters have been students of Mr. Kuntz since 2008, from the ages of 6 and 7. They are now second degree black belts and had the honor of teaching alongside Mr. Kuntz this summer. They enjoyed meeting all of the kids, Mr. Lippards children included. Im sad that these kids will not have the experience that my children have had. It has been truly life changing and continues to shape my daughters into exceptional young women. Mr. Kuntz has been instrumental in the development of my girls as outstanding individuals. If you are considering karate for your children I strongly encourage anyone to enroll with Colorado Springs National Katate. Mr. Kuntz is the best teacher either one of my daughters has ever had.

After a few days of reflection and much consideration I can whole-heartedly say, “If we were smart we would have left sooner. If you are smart you will not step foot in this business.” Because of the owner/instructor, David Kuntz this business will not survive. This business will not survive an “under new management” ploy either. The extreme highs and lows the owner/instructor, David Kuntz experiences daily in the span of 4 hours is not normal. Also, after visiting other karate schools in town I can say what takes place in NK Karate Colorado Springs is not normal karate instruction. Children should not cry at least once a week. This is not the same child crying. Thank God we were not the only parents who witnessed the owner/instructor’s rants of “what parents owe me money and how much.” One day you are treated like a friend. The next day you are the enemy. The duality of extreme happiness and the next minute extreme anger is too much. Is this owner/instructor, David Kuntz a reflection of the NK Karate brand? After speaking to owners in MN all week I would say, “No.” My husband and I were informed that this owner/instructor, David Kuntz has a history of this behavior and while in MN was moved from one school to another and demoted, because of this very behavior. The “writing off of people” behavior is a theme of this owner/instructor, David Kuntz. Through out the entire year David Kuntz has told many stories of canceling contracts because, in his own words, “parents piss me off and I wash my hands of them, have a nice life.” We are no longer at the school because of the text from the owner/instructor, Dvid Kuntz that states, “Go find a new karate school!” I stood up for my child and this is the response. If you are smart you will not step foot in this business.

I looked in some schools where they offered Karate classes, not martial arts in general and I finally found it.Excellent instructors, super accessible schedules to have more than 1 class a week, this is something that I liked, many schools offer you limitations on schedules here you can make your schedule according to your availability because they have schedules all week, Sensei Kuntz and all the instructors give the attention to each child to improve their achievement, I simply give you back 100%
