As a former employee and 30 plus years in my career field I must say Chicago Lighthouse is the most unprofessional place I have ever worked. Chicago Lighthouse known for servicing the blind, visual impaired disable and veteran community have multiple partnerships with UI and Illinois Tollway just to name a few.The Illinois Tollway consist of temp and permeant employees as a permanent employees you have to take a drug and criminal background check, if you have any violation they need to be cleared up prior to employment. The pay scale is very low for people with experience and education to back it, management is lazy and dont want to do anything, the HR rep is Helen Wolfe whos the Senior HR Rep not Director as it states in LinkedIn.Its best for any assistant to reach out to Jeanette Bonzani very professional VP of HR which will refer you to Helen shes the point of contact for the Illinois Tollway. Things may be different at the actual Chicago Lighthouse but I wouldnt recommend employment at the Illinois Tollway.

For anybody looking for employment FYI never work for a company that asks you to buy expensive material just to work for them and never be reimbursed and also pay a monthly subscription of internet also without reimbursement just to work for them, also having in mind that you will have to pay monthly parking of around $150 because The Lighthouse does not have parking for employees, at the end youll end Paying over $250 a month JUST TO WORK FOR THEM...I had so much faith and wanted to work there because I loved what I heard of this organization but is very unfair to work there. Definitely DO NOT RECOMMEND unless your plan is to just volunteer

I recently applied there, and to be honest, the workers and organization are great. The application process begins w/ a typing test (40 wpm), grammar test, multiple ? test, and an interview. If you pass you’ll then come back for a 2nd interview. If they select you then you’ll proceed to sign a waiver for a background check and you’ll go get drug tested. If everything clears you’ll get a response to start training. Note, you will not get hired if you have any type of felony! You can possibly get hired if you have a misdemeanor that was committed as a minor. So don’t waste your time if you have a background. Even if years have passed.

The Chicago light house located @ 1850 West Roosevelt has the worst staff in the low vision clinic &call center . They are very unprofessional & seems to be very uncaring towards people with disabilities & their families. My aunt was at the store trying to get help / information & when she called she was constantly put Thur to some lady named Patricia Rodriguez whom she never spoke with or she never returned my aunt phone calls When my aunt inquired of whom she could speak with as a supervisor or a higher up personnel she was constantly rerouted to this Patricia lady whom ever she is, which left with an unresolved issue this is so sad that they have people working there in upper Mangement that dose not have compassion or understanding of a person with disabilities

I went in to buy a product, a clock, they did not have it. They immediately took me to the industrial area and built the one that I wanted. They offered me water and a nice place to sit and wait. They could not have been more accommodating and professional. No extra charge. I was in and out in less than thirty minutes.

I came here for a assignment test, the test was at 1pm, they didnt come down to get me till 1:30( important to know if you are paying a parking meter) the testing was pretty basic no complaints, but the room that you take the test in is another story... if you take test well with all kinds of loudness around you then you will be fine.. but I guess when they thought about where to place people for testing they didnt think to make it someplace quite. You have all kinds of people walking in and out, people dropping things , taking loud and even had a women next to me that needed extra assistance, which is fine but at the same time they should think of placing those people in a separate room since they most likely will be talking the whole time. I personally have to take my test in a quite place so this was just something I was not use to. It was extremely ghetto IJs..

The Chicago Lighthouse For The Visually Impaired in my opinion is the most unwelcoming and anti-social institution for the blind Ive ever had the displeasure of visiting. In the two weeks I spent here the majority of those within never spoke or greeted me and everyone seemed to be in their own little group. It just doesnt feel inviting and I couldnt wait to get the you know what out of there. Im sure for many this place has been a great help to them but I have yet to experience that help. I sincerely believe over the years The Chicago Lighthouse has lost focus of its original mission.

Dear beloved.I understand the review distribution here on this website: people can get upset about The Lighthouse for the Blind. I am a vigilante by profession, a title given to me from a dear friend. Most of the people who I help are very appreciative; but, a few dislike me, personally, for what I did for them. Dear friends and siblings, Trust in the Lord with all your heart, lean not on your own understanding. Be kind to one another, like Jesus is kind to us.from, Ronny.

I had an interview here and got here @0815. The receptionist was very welcoming &I heard here entire personal conversation. When 0905 came I went back up to ask if I should call the person who called me on my cell she says nope theyll come get you. I said ok. When I sit bk dwn she then calls them. They finally come down @0930 to get me. The person giving the test was nice and security who kept me from getting an $80 ticket were awesome
