Its a great gym with all the appurtenant equipment needed for a great workout. The best thing is they have childcare which is a big incentive for couples to workout together after regular work hours. We were really impressed by the quality of childcare especially the provider Nima who is very nice with the kids and we never have to worry about our kids under her supervision. She was accommodating of our schedule on multiple occasions and never reached out to us for any kids related issues during our workout. We highly recommend this gym to everybody but especially to those people who have kids to be taken care of while they’re at the Gym.

This gym has everything you would need equipment-wise, and has a smoothie bar that is fantastic. Would definitely recommend this gym to anyone.

The place is kept clean and I love the equipment they have there

I canceled my membership and am still getting charged. This isnt the first time Im falsely charged for something at this gym. I honestly think they think of their customers as just a quick coin-grab but dont actually Foster relationships, at least at the manager level.

It is uncomfortably painful to cancel this membership. I moved In February and they just charged my account in June again. I went in person to cancel in February and I was assured I wouldnt be charged. Its incredible how anytime I call someone gives me the run around of how they will take my name down and speak with the manager. I just called again today, 6/30, lets see how long it takes for a manager to call me back.

I was terribly mistreated by the staff today. Im paying roughly 45$ for membership. For these money - Im not provided with proper pulley handles for the many unilateral cables machines they have. But also when I bought my own , and I forgot them at the gym - I was refused to have them back, even after I stated I have my receipt for them - the guy on the front desk told me - I dont know and was looking at me like I got 3 heads. And the personal trainer just shrugged at me. I understand the front desk guy doesnt do a lot at the gym - so I dont expect him to know what equipment they have. But what about the personal trainers? I would never give my health in the hands of someone thats doesnt know what equipment they have and is there every day.

Wish I could rate 0 stars, literally the worst gym ever. They told me in April they had issues finding my membership, I showed them my credit card app where the payments come out of and he told me he will fix it or have a manager fix it, today they said the same thing again which takes time out of my workout n is also frustrating bc one goes to the gym to relax not to deal w their clerical errors, I was finally fed up n told them I wish to cancel my membership and I was told I have to write a letter to their corporate office when their website states you can cancel at the gym where u signed up, on top of that we will have to bring our own cleaning supplies to work out during Covid bc they were always out of paper towels or the watered down cleaning solution they offer, no social distancing whatsoever and will allow guests to walk freely without a mask. Gym is always packed, no accessories like handles for their equipment, at least 8 machines out of service and I can go on about what’s wrong with these place. Do yourself a favor and don’t sign up for their membership7/12 update: they haven’t cancelled my membership even tho I talked to a rep in the lobby (Joe) who gave me their P.O. Box address to mail a letter which I did, they are now saying they need the letter to be thru certified mail which the the post office said they can’t do for po boxes, I’m now being charged another month plus a service fee plus a late fee totaling $57. Seriously no way to get out of this, I already signed up for another gym and I’m paying for a service I won’t use. Membership impossible to cancel, please be aware!

Avoid this place at all costs. I came in to cancel my membership with a signed letter. The manager simply said its taken care of, but this was not the case. I was charged for another month of membership and my membership was still active. I had to call corporate and was finally able to get the account cancelled. Deceitful and shady business practices STAY AWAY. They also bribe customers to submit a good review in order to cover up the negative reviews. You can see signs around the facility that advertise this.

Second floor is good but 0 floor dont have enough air.You see most of review is 5 star but almost all of them lie.They give free items when you give them 5 star. Read agreement before sign!!! You will understand it was trap after signed. They will charge from your account unauthorized fee.

Today was my first day. Gym had a lot of equipment. Gym was clean, equipment all worked fine, friendly & knowledgeable staff. The only thing I didnt like was a certain couple who used the equipment but did disinfectant after usage.

HIGHLY PERSUADE AGAINST Retro fitness because canceling membership at Retro is a nightmare. I moved from Chicago to Palatine in Dec 2020 and I requested cancellation in person at the gym, paid my balances and was told that was all set. A month later, they charged me another monthly fee, plus late fee and yearly ones. I called the gym and ABC financial several times who says they no longer accept in-person cancellation (simply said that a guy who cancelled at the gym didnt know the job) and asked me to mail the request and I did. Now theyre asking cancellation fee of $20 and charging monthly and late fees of $19 meanwhile even I thought my account was on freeze. IM WARNING YOU BEWARE of signing a contract. ONCE YOURE IN IT, THERE WILL NO SUCH THING AS CANCELLATION UNTIL YOU LOSE SEVERAL HUNDRED BUCKS.Update on Apr 30. They dont resolve or take any action on this. I still couldnt cancel my membership, its been 5 months :(

Spacious, not packed like some other gyms. Cardio room with a theatre is a BONUS!!! Many equipments available to use without wait. Still new to this place, but I love it so far.

Please avoid this gym!!! Terrible gym, all they care about is money. I cancelled my membership bringing a written letter, and they took action 1 month later, making me pay another month. Also, they charged my account two times in one month, in total they took like $200 in one month. I tried reaching out the manager several times and he wouldnt respond to anything. The front desk left him notes and letters from me, because he was never at the gym (gym manager Joe) and I needed to get the refund, even the front desk would leave him notes about that, he never reached out! Scammers. Please dont sign up at this gym!

-Very professional, kind staff, and the Operations Manager, Harold is always making sure that the staff is consistently cleaning the gym around the clock. Not to mention Gavin, and Catherines fantastic customer service skills.-Staff has positive demeanor and are always eager to help.-Good membership prices, and amenities. Very safe and compliant especially under this unprecedented time that were currently in.-One last thing, they are very consistent with the face covering policy, and constantly remind the members over the loudspeaker with announcements every half hour or so.

Great gym, has all the equipment I need and not too crowded

Ive been pretty happy with Retro Fitness, I signed up about few months ago and the process was quick and easy. I pay $35/month for the package including childcare but theres one for $20/month. I start out my session on one of the hydromassage chairs (the first time I tried it I wasnt impressed with the pressure-which was on the highest setting--10-- but every time after has been much more powerful and a great experience). There are tons of free cardio machines and Ive never had to wait to go on the stairmaster even though there are only two.The childcare was my favorite part at the beginning, but now I wish they would just take the tv out. I feel like my daughter often watches TV instead of playing and I think not having a tv would encourage the kids to play more. They have cute little exercise equipment that the kids can use as well as a coloring table, play mats, and other toys and chairs.The equipment is all very new (its all red and yellow so kind of an eyesore, but you get used to it). The locker rooms are very nice and always clean. Theres a cardio cinema, but several of the machines squeak so I avoid it. Parking is also much easier than most places in Chicago.The main con is that the childcare doesnt overlap with any classes which is a bummer. Once they get more kids coming, they said they would increase the hours (I didnt believe them at first but they did add childcare to the weekend since a few other kids started coming, so they seem trustworthy). There doesnt seem to be any good mat to do core work, so I just use the individual mats in the cardio classroom, but its not ideal. Also, the kettle bells and other fun equipment is off limits except for the personal trainers and their clients. I totally understand (I used to be a personal trainer, and I know how annoying it can be to have people on your equipment when you need it) but wish we could use them when no one else is. I prefer more functional workouts, and am somewhat limited without that equipment. None of these are a big deal though, Im just spoiled coming from a great gym in California.

I love this gym! Ever since they’ve opened back up with new management things look great! It’s clean and always well kept. Every time I check in they’re checking temperatures and making sure members are wearing masks. It’s good to be back!

Great place to be! They have multiple classes, tanning and hydromassage chairs available. One amazing feature is a movie theater room in which you can work out while watching. Ask for Harold, he will definitely help you out!

Clean gym just no wi fi in basement. UPDATE BE CAUTIOUS.I use blue cross blue shield which allows me to go to a wide variety of gyms. I explained this three times as they kept trying to bill me. This place will always figure out a way to add some hidden fees. NOT WORTH IT.

Horrible Experience. I signed up my wife and I for the membership. We were locked in to a year agreement and could not cancel without incurring a early termination fee. We waited until the year was up and had to physically go in to cancel, They would not do it on the phone. We signed our papers and were told we would be charged again because they need 30 days notice of cancellation. I proceeded to pay for the extra month we would not use, and once I thought we were all finished, I then received two $39.99 fees claiming they are an annual fee that must be charged to my account. They claimed they could not reimburse the fees, even though I obviously cancelled already. PLEASE USE ANOTHER GYM, YOU WILL BE MUCH HAPPIER!!

Face mask policy is not enforced at all upstairs. Need to say reminders to wear it correctly/put it on. Saw about 3-4 people not wearing them at all today.

Inconsistent face covering policy. It amazes me that half of the grown men in there cant handle wearing their face mask properly or at all in some instances. This even happens in front of the check-in desk. Staff should remind members how to wear one properly at each check-in and continue to do so when they walk around. Hopefully the gym wont have to shut down again because a simple task is too much for some or worse, a virus cluster originates from there. Aside from that, nice clean gym.

Love it new machines lots of cardio space .only thing I Dont like are the hours open at 6:00am instead of 5:00am like xsport in norridge

This Gym is the place to be, nice and ample getting new equipment and very and I mean very friendly staff.Rick Ramirez and Jaime are my personal trainers and are the reason why Im excited to go in for a workout they cater the training regime to fit my level or rather lack of fitness.Seriously come on in and sweat have fun and be fitGet the personal training classes if you are a beginner because you will be guided to establish a good foundation for your future success.Be mindful in the sense that you are making an investment in your self get the personal training and carve your master piece of art sculpt that fabulous body you have!!!!

I first came here and used it for a few weeks (good equipment, pretty good gym as far as hardware and space). I had stopped going before covid struck, once Covid happened the gym suddenly stopped charging my account without an email or call or word of any kind as to the status of the gym. For all I knew it had completely shut down and didn’t exist anymore. Months go by and still no charge. Then one day I get a charge for retro fitness, I call and try to have my membership canceled but they say it has to be done and in person and only when a manager is around...not exactly fitting to my schedule to be going off of some gym managers schedule. Weeks go by and I make several phone calls asking for my membership to be canceled and no one can do anything for me. Instead they give my number to some collection agency that calls non stop. One day they finally charge my account for like triple what they thought I owed them, I called and again nothing can be done over the phone. Which is funny cause my initial sign up and payment was done online completely solo. You can take our money over the phone but if we ask to stop taking it we have to show up in person. And screw the policy, that should be modified on account of COVID-19 you can’t force ppl to come in person with a big disease going around. Especially a gym which is germ central. This is a nice facility ran terriblyUpdate: still have never heard from a manager and am still getting emails saying that there’s a problem with my account. Also after reading many reviews with the same problem I am considering cooperating with other former members who are still having trouble and putting together a small legal team to take Retro Fitness and it’s sticky finger sidekick ABC Financial to court. We might be years in court but I’ve got nothing but time.

Thanks to the manager, Steven Nguyen, I didnt sue Retro Fitness and ABC Financial for overcharging my debit card $300 on more than one occasion. Their billing/financial team is clearly incompetent. Below is an email from John-Michael (corporate) trying to silence me. He said money was not taken from me, but if that were the case, how did I get my money back 6 months later? Steven worked so hard to make sure I received my refund, and I am so grateful that he didnt brush me off. Cool coaches arent enough to make this business worth working with.

Canceled within 3 days of getting the membership because the place had awful equipment and they refused to refund me even though I canceled within the days that the contract said you’d get a full refund. DO NOT GO HERE. The manager never called me back after calling them 4 days straight. You are better off anywhere but here. Super unprofessional.

Great gym with state of the art equipment. Cardio theater, 2 Smith machines, rebounding medicine ball abs contraption. A separate cardio area upstairs with circuit training 👍💪

Rick, Colie and Allen are amazing coaches. I’ve lost 30 lbs in 4 months and I honestly couldn’t of done it without their help. Being a full time mom is draining but the motivation that my coaches give me I continue to make time and go to the gym. Ana who works in the kids club is also a huge help, my kids have really connected with her which makes my workouts way less stressful or worry sum, Retro is great gym for the whole family!

Have been a member of this gym for over 3 years and until the last few weeks the following issues were never present: I have shown up 3 times in the past week and a half and no staff showed up for work I guess and not able to work out. The manager assured me after the 2nd time this was taken care of and would never happen again. Due to my work I have to work out earlier in the day so I am paying for a gym I am not able to access. Management should be at openings for an extended period every day to both insure staff are coming to work and insure the gym is open on time for members to be able to access. Unfortunately staff performance is reflective of management when it is a continued issue. I love the facilities and equipment but if I cant use it, not sure if I will continue paying membership here due to these issues.

I go here because there is nothing better in the area.Pros: It has a lot of newer machines and weights to get the job done. Staff is nice but has high turnover. I think there have been like 4-5 fitness coach managers in a year.Cons: Barely any classes- and theyre offered at a limited schedule. Things break and they are left broken for months. Leg machine was broken for 3 months. Toilet was closed for a month upstairs. We had a coat rack, it broke and they just didnt replace it. Cleaning equipment is empty or broken often. At some point, this equipment will age and break more often and Retro will have nothing for people to use unless they get used to fixing things quickly.But this place is better than Xsport down the road, so...

So far I’ve been loving the two weeks that I’ve been here! Everyone is super friendly, shoutout Steven, Rick, Enrique, & Jake! Never crowded, always clean + reliable. Team classes are a great workout, but I’m also very comfortable doing a workout by myself. All around definitely recommend checking it out!

Retro fitness has all the equipment I need to do the exercises prescribed by my personal trainer. The equipment is in excellent condition and they just got new weights, medicine balls, and other equipment on the second floor. Now everything is right in one spot which makes it easier to do all my workouts. Also, its never over crowded so you dont have to wait on equipment.

Around june 26th when the gym reopened to the public, members were sent an email containing the measures that they would be taking to protect members from the spread of covid. This included taking all member’s temperature at check in, having a staff member sanitizing machines and equipment throughout the day, stopping the use of every other locker and treadmill, and requiring guests and employees to wear masks. In the week and a half that they’ve been open, I’ve had to ask for my temperature to be checked by a staff member multiple times because they didn’t do it upon my check in, it makes me wonder how many others haven’t been checked and could possibly be sick. I have never seen a staff member sanitizing any equipment at all, no matter what time of the day it is. Most of the time I walk in, the employee at the front desk has their mask pulled down even though they’re often talking to a member that is closer than 6 feet away from them. There is also no enforcement of other members wearing masks, although most of them do it on their own but not all. I believe that half of these measures that were supposedly put into place are really just a lie and decided to post my thoughts here after finding no way to email the manager about my concerns.

Ive been working out at Retro Fitness in Portage Park for the last month and absolutely love it!! To have a gym of this caliber in the neighborhood is fantastic. All of the employees are very friendly and knowledgeable. The environment and equipment that they offer is best in class and has really motivated me to go the gym. Great gym! Like bright colors of equipment and music, which lightening up the mood. Front desk is super nice. They know every one by first name. Love the smoothie bar. Movie theater is my favorite.

I signed up about a week ago and the machines are too dusty, seems like they dont clean them. They have one employee doing everything which makes it hard to have a clean gym. The monthly fee is affordable and the gym has all the machines needed to get a good workout, I just wish they would offer classes with the basic membership.

The Manager/management is terrible, I’ve been trying to cancel my membership yet harold is never in the business? How is this even a thing ? I call and ask staff when he will be there yet they never know .

For the price, its a great value. Lots of equipment, decent class selection, very clean, never super packed and the cinema room is a great perk. Parking is easy and the staff is nice.

First thing first the employees are amazing, theyre really friendly and try to make everything as convenient for you as possible. Theyre never too packed which is good, equipment is always available, great music playing, the theatre room is my favorite.. you can watch a movie while you do cardio. The smoothie bar is always a major plus. Other then this you guys need to check it out. 👌

Would love to give a higher rating, the sign says open at 4am but again for the fourth time that i’ve tried to get in at four they’re not open. i like early morning workouts and i try to be done by 5:30. if the late opening can be resolved this would be a great place

Positives are the place is super clean and rarely crowded. Nice mixed crowd- 2 floors are great. Very clean bathrooms. Trash cans rusty and hard to use but gym members keep it clean and nice. Negatives are the hyped up movie room. half the time it is a really bad movie and you can rarely hear the volume. So if you want to start with a cardio blast plan at least 5 minutes to ask them to start the move check the volume etc. on the other hand the music in the gym is often blasting so loud it colmes in over headphones. Odd. I have asked and been told the person who opens the gym picks everything ands sets it for the day. Classes are also an extra charge.

Worst annual membership. It is trap!!!

Been a member for about 6 months, just got charged an annual 39.90 fee and that i was on a one year contract which was not brought to my attention when i signed up which makes me feel like i got scammed. i have to pay this ridiculous fee and my 19.99 a month as well. i was very enthusiastic about signing up but now i don’t even want to walk past the gym. Do yourself a favor and don’t sign up to this gym.UPDATE:It’s been a year as SAID IN MY CONTRACT. I AM STILL BEING CHARGED BY THE RETRO THEVIES, thankfully I have the best bank in the world, chase and they refunded my account from this fraudulent gym.

The facility offers a wide variety of machines and space to tailor your workouts to your goals and spans two floors! The gamification strategy I also find very appealing.I see a fair amount of malfunctioning cardio equipment but they have so much available that its easy to find something thats working. The locker rooms are kept pretty clean inclusive of the showers.Lastly, my sign up was not great as i did not get the promotion offered, but had qualified for, yet it hasnt tainted my overall perception of the operation.

Up to Date, State of the Art, Private, Fun, Professional and Friendly, I have RA and use a walker and I had a blast! Theres an elevator, everything is clean and spacious. I felt welcome!

I go here on weekends. I like the Zumba class with Jesse, although I totally cant keep up with it! Locker room floors not clean enough for my preferences, and no towels or toiletries. The hydromassage is nice to use after a workout.

Horrible staff (manager)I have membership at this gym today I took a guest for a 3 day free pass he took of his shirt which he didnt know about the manager came up and told him to put it on and he did put it on RIGHT AWAY just cause the guest was laughing and told him okay and the manager said he would see him in 30 minutes when he would finish his work out which he did to get a membership there the manager told my guest that he couldnt give him a membership that he wasnt in need of his money and that he doesnt go taking people of the street that he was trouble the manager also said that just cause he took of his shirt and laughing he told the guest he has the right to deny him a membership, that is ridiculous for a guest not to be able to get a membership for one something he didnt know two JUST laughing. The manager was rude to me as well when a manager should act totally different to someone that has a membership at that gym!!!

Amazing gym, always empty and great equipment. only major issue is the wifi, I either have no service in the downstairs area or I am never able to connect to the retro WiFi. Besides the lack of tunes it is a perfect environment to work out in.

I give this gym 2 stars because its to dirty someone needs to clean and fix the Machines but this gym is really nice and comfortable

Went with my friend for a workout we know that o Saturday gym is closing at 10:00pm was 9:50 and we was finishing our workout one more set and they gest turn off lights 10 minutes before 10:00pm there was gest me and my friend in the gym they at least could let us know that they closing at 10:00 to finish our workout the gym itself is good and is not crowded at all but they need to treat the customers right very disappointed

So these mess up my membership when they first opened then supposedly settup my file setthen meup with child daycare here then..now they go back there word and so I cancelled it there service is horrible

The staff deserves 5 stars, the owner deserves none. He under pays his employees not even min wage, wont pay overtime, wont compensate for any holidays. He treats his staff like garbage and expects a salary paid manager to work a unreasonable amount of hours. He doesnt care about his business in the community, nor his members. Its strictly about the $. He doesnt deserve to have the community of Portage park support his gym or business. He has gone through staff and 4 General Managers since the gym has opened (1 yr ago) I wouldnt recommend buying any personal training at this gym since he believes its ok to lie to people to lock them into a 12 month personal training contract that you get stuck in. Watch what your signing up for. I wouldnt recommend signing up for this gym.

Place is always clean and machines working properly.. they even have a gym daycare for kids.

Never busy. Never can find anyone to show me how to use machines. I just figure out myself. No pressure there. Like that 🏋🤔

WAS a member. Proof that you get what you pay for.. Service should always be priority, but not these franchise gyms. Too bad..

The new yoga instructor is awesome. She taught us about chakras.

If you dont know what means to workout. Then I dont know whats wrong with people. These trainers mean serious business when it comes to word Personal Training they mean it with a passion.

Doesnt have the universal pull over machine or a sitdown tricep press. Bring headphones or the music they play will put you to sleep. Other than that it is one of the better gyms. Most XSPORTS too many people and not enough equipment. Though both blow Planet Fitness out of the water. The heaviest dumbbell Ive seen in Planet Fitness is 75 lb is that have a 50 pound dumbbell Max.

I sting like a butterfly and float like a bee, Dominick M, is the original Rock-eeeRei Sanchez is my trainer.....has a degree in exercise science, several certifications and is a former MMA Cage Fighter....so who better to try to teach me to box? I know an impossible quest right? ....but he appears ready for the challenge.Today I went to Retro Fitness, worked out on my own for a bit (strength training and balance training) and then had 30 minutes of hitting punching mitts held by Rei, punching pole mounted targets and hitting a punching bag.Who knew 30 minutes of doing this could be so tiring.....and fun! I should also mention I had two sessions on the hydro-massage-waterbeds... after all....I am 67 and chronologically enhanced!The original Rocky by the way....was Rocky Marciano....he was the very best!

Everything is new and very clean. Great smoothie bar and freindly employees.
