CarMax employees are not paid on commission, which makes all the difference! They quoted me $1100 over the best offer I got for the sale of my 2015 Honda Accord, which was also more than Credit Karma estimated. The whole process was maybe 20 minutes, so easy.

Marc at the dealership was great . He actually winds up living in the same community I lived in and there were a lot of folks we both knew.We went in looking for a A Ford Explorer. We found a 2018 that wife wife loved and them buying our car and us purchasing one from them was seem less and Marc the Salesman was very friendly and professional. Management helped with some steps and they were helpful as well.The one and only thing I wish the vehicle would have come with an owners manual. But even then you can purchase one and be reimbursed by Carmax .Daniel

Just sold my car here, and the process was very streamlined. From online appraisal, to on-site inspection, and to signing documents, I didn’t even have to leave my seat. Spent 10min at home doing online appraisal and about 30min on-site, and it was done. The staff (my agent was Mark) is very welcoming, patient, and friendly. In my case, it was a pleasure doing business with them.

I wont ever buy a car anywhere else. The folks at the Charlottesville branch are very nice, never push the extra warranty once I initially decline, and the ability to ship cars from all over the country is an amazing option.

Did on test drive and as soon as that was over. We were told a salesman would meet us outside if we wanted to look at more cars. We were then ignored for an hour. When we went back inside there was a salesman just standing at the desk messing around with a coworker. He asked us if we had any questions as if he suddenly cared and gave us his card and told us to call if we did have any questions.

This was my first time dealing with CarMax but my experience was great. The process was long but it was worth it. I left out with a nice automobile and happy with the customer service that I was provided. I will definitely recommend anyone who is looking to finance and find a vehicle that suits them for a reasonable price to come here.

Purchased several cars from carmax over the years. Buying a used car is always a gamble. Do your homework and hope for the best. Although there are some great people work there, they can refine the initial process better. When you have an appointment to see and test drive a certain car, it should be ready for you. Not parked on the yard in the wind and cold for you to go find it. They have a great heated lighted garage. Cars even look better in those bright lights. Had two appointments, two missed opportunities! This easy touch can make your experience start on a high note. Costs no money and time. Customers are making a large purchase, little bit of early foreplay goes a long way. Common sense always win.

Great sales team. Not super impressed with the quality of CarMax cars. They dont seem to be super thorough in making sure their vehicles are road worthy. Enjoy a very easy sales process with great policies for returns and exchanges, but make sure you look their vehicles over carefully before you buy!Edit, it has been 3 months since buying my 2014 Mazda CX5, the car had a few issues that they looked at and fixed, and did some paint touch-up. They missed some big spots for the touch up (for some reason this car had flecks missing in 5-6 places), at this point Im not even going to try to get them to take care of the spots they missed, it takes almost a month to get in to schedule service and they arent super on top of it. I hope I never need to use my warranty if this is how the process works.

Just purchased a small truck through CarMax. This is the third time we have bought a used vehicle from CarMax and once again it was a great experience. The initial vehicle transfer was fast. The test drive and sale went very smoothly--friendly sales person--no pressure--excellent communications--and since this was in the time of COVID--the sanitation, masking and distancing were carefully maintained. After delivery, my mechanic found a couple of items that the CarMax inspection apparently had missed--CarMax took care of them at no cost to me. Overall, a great experience.

Nathan was great to work with. However, the Manager’s (female) attitude stunk. I’ve bought 3 vehicles from CarMax (Richmond and Harrisonburg, and now C’Ville. My bank, Navy Federal, cut me a check for the vehicle and she didn’t understand the process. She gave my husband and the Navy Federal representative attitude, and she was completely wrong. She needs more training and she also needs work on her customer service skills. She didn’t apologize for not understanding, nor for the amount of unnecessary hours we spent at the dealership due to her lack of knowledge. Her interpersonal skills suck. Nathan however was a very nice guy. I love CarMax but I will not be purchasing another vehicle from the one in Charlottesville, VA.

I had to recently get a new(er) vehicle. My old 2010 Kia Soul was completely rusted out underneath and above the windshield from our six years of living along the Canadian boarder of upstate NY. The repairs on my Kia were more expensive than the vehicle was worth, plus if we are looking to expand our family, then we need a bigger vehicle. I worked with Abe for a week (Ibragrim U.) and he listen to my needs and found a 2016 Toyota Highlander in Lynchburg that completely, 100% matched what I was looking for. It was so clean, looked almost brand new, had only 24,000 miles on it, not too fancy, had an electric back lift, the back window comes up separately from the back, it has an electric drivers seat to assist with my back issues (lumbar support) and it came with all-weather mats throughout. We have four dogs, so we absolutely needed all-weather mats. The CarMax price was right around the price I found this vehicle elsewhere. I test drove and looked at 4 different Toyota Highlanders elsewhere and they all didnt fit what we were looking for. All others had too much mileage, an older style, wrong coloring interior for a white dog, was too expensive or was too fancy. Once the Highlander came in from Lynchburg, I knew it was the one. Other dealers gave me a certain price for my Kia Soul, so I knew what I wanted for it and I was extremely surprised that CarMax matched the highest price for my trade in. SOLD. I did all of this without my husband being there (military) and I felt absolutely no pressure at all. Everyone I met at this CarMax was kind and listened to our needs. Abe was great with updating me and keeping me comfortable. In addition to all of this, my father kept informing me of how good the Carmax warranty is, so even though Toyotas normally do not have issues, I purchased a warranty anyway. I look forward to doing future business with Carmax as well when we are in need for my husbands vehicle or if any friends need suggestions. THANK YOU, ABE!

I find CarMax a very trusted source of used cars - we have now purchased three cars and sold 3 through CarMax. CarMax prices on used cars are fair and the offer on cars for sale are a bit low but CarMax needs to make a profit on them to stay in business so thats ok. There was one car I got a bid on from CarMax and did not sell through them because I thought the price was too low - I am now trying to sell it through a consignment group and am wondering if I should have gone ahead and sold it through CarMax - it is sure easier to sell them that way, and no delays in getting ones money. And I may get the extra few thousand, I may not.

Extremely helpful and informative staff that made buying a great experience. The lot isnt the biggest, but proximity to many other CarMax locations means you can get free/cheap transfers easily. Love the upfront pricing and few up-sells during the paperwork.

I like Carmax - they will shuffle around vehicles from their other stores and they delivered a wonderful car to me. My only gripe is the time in the dealership to complete the transaction (about 3 hours). I just dont understand why the process takes as long as it does and certainly there has to be a better, faster and more efficient way. I did everything I could to facilitate a quick process but it was painfully slow nonetheless.

Your team made finding a car so easy! When initially talking with the scheduling team, they were kind, friendly and answered all our questions. The arranged for the car to be transferred to our desired CarMax location, and within 3 days we received notice that it had arrived. We scheduled a time to test drive it, and upon arrival were greeted by a wonderful sales team member. We test drove the car, liked it, and bought it. My husband and I were impressed at how safe and comfortable we felt doing all this during the pandemic. During our experience we saw CarMax team members sanitizing the customer areas, we were socially distanced from other customers, everyone was wearing a mask, and there was a plexiglass divider at the table where we met our sales person. Our test drive was on our own, after we watched our sales representative put on gloves and sanitize the inside of the vehicle.Thank you, CarMax, for taking your customers and staffs safety during a pandemic so seriously, and for making what could have been a stressful experience, so easy!

We returned to CarMax to sell our vehicle, as it had been quick and easy before. It was just as good this time, and we appreciated the curbside service available, given the pandemic precautions. Maybe one could get a few more dollars elsewhere, but the convenience cant be beat.

We came in on Sunday 9/6/20 with two pick-ups, both same year to sell both, or just one. We were completely surprised and pleased with the hello at the entrance and the help received by Kendall. CarMax over delivered on their no hassle process! I drove up, they reviewed my car and took some pictures, I left and they emailed me an offer. I chewed on it for 48 hours and yes, checked some internet pricing sites.I returned to the store, I did have an appointment and 30 minutes later, I left with a check and I feel I was treated fairly. I would do it again !

My company wanted me to replace my car with a Corolla that they found at CarMax, so it was a little more complicated than your average trade-in. Anyhow, they were on top of everything and gave us a great price on the trade-in as well.

They offered a good, fair trade on my car, and the purchase of a newer vehicle went smoothly. No pressure.

I was so surprised with how friendly and yet knowledgeable the staff were. There was also a “we can do that” attitude. It was the easiest and most pleasant car-buying experience I’ve ever had.

Everybody was nice and welcoming. The only thing that I would say is the process could have been a little faster for selling a car, thats why I gave get it a 4. But other than that the experience was great.

I was very disappointed in the General Managers demeanor, physical actions and lack of professionalism when interacting with my sales associate. We were having a hard time getting information from my previous lender to show a zero balance / paid in full letter. When she went to talk with him and see what could be done he would not even listen to her about my situation. He simply would not hear anything. He began waiving his hands at her and was verbally abusive. When she returned back to me she was visibly shaken by how he treated her. I took the opportunity to tell him I had seen the interaction and would have left because of it, had I not been so far in the process and found a vehicle I liked. He didnt apologize or empathize at all. He didnt offer to help or listen to what the issue was. When I told him I would be in contact with corporate about his actions he said awesome. That is not the type of behavior I would expect from your General Manager. While I did speak with two associates from the Corporate office who were empathetic and listened to me, I didnt walk away from that thinking that anything would be addressed. He spoke to me as if he was untouchable. I hope that isnt the case. I am certain that how he spoke to her on the sales floor was not an isolated incident. And now, I can only imagine how he treats her behind closed doors. I encouraged her to file a complaint on behalf of herself with the company and if she didnt feel heard by CarMax she should contact the Labor Board. I am hopeful she will use her voice to communicate her feelings about that interaction and any others that may have made her feel similarly.
