I am new the the area, originally from NY, so I know a good Dominican hair salon from the moment I walk in and this was it and more. I called first to get a price on how much the service would cost and when I arrived that didn’t change. I appreciate that so much because sometimes you’re told one thing on the phone and another in person. The salon is very quiet and very clean. I loved that they used gloves to wash my hair, super sanitary. Susana was so nice. She blew out my hair, passed the flat iron- I usually don’t get that as it’s typically too much heat but she recommended I do that because of how hot it was that day. She also trimmed my ends which didn’t result in half my hair being cut !!! Great experience and I’ll be back!

I love the fact that they accept walk-ins. They are so efficient that even if you walk in they get you out quickly. I arrived at 2:30pm on a Saturday and was out by 3:45pm. The prices are very reasonable. Most places I go to charge way too much for a simple wash & silkening. These ladies know what they are doing. I will be a returning customer.

Booked an appointment for my mom who has a hearing loss. We confirmed the price prior to starting the appointment and they charged extra for thickness, which was anticipated.Martha was great and my mom looks forward to me making her another appointment.We will show a picture of styling. My mom wanted a little bit more body— but we didn’t convey that, so it was on us.Mom fixed it to her liking with sponge rollers and was good to go!

Beware..The older women at the front desk is a Witch… She lies about the prices , she will tell you one price and once service is rendered she thinks of a different amount.They never show you what product they are using because it’s prepared in the little back room. I paid $175 for Keratin (I really don’t think it was because I never saw the actual product) My hair is not glossy as it used to be when I got it…My hair was dry and falling out!!!!!!! I’ve been told by others that they have experienced the exact same thing and NO LONGER PATRONIZE THESE PEOPLE!!! Watch out folks it’s all about the dollar with this salon

The pricing here is unethical. They seem to be crooks. I walked in and asked for a full sew in. She said it would be $300. I said “no thank you” and then the price was $250. I still declined but decided to get a wash and blow dry so I could do my hair at home. My hair was washed and blow dried. At the end of the blow dry she offered to do my weave for $225. Seriously?! I still declined and went to checkout. Upon checking out I was charged $48 for a wash an blow dry. I asked if this was the same price as the wash and silk press. She said it was the same price. I found that to be extremely unethical considering that I didn’t get the same service and it took half the time. If you choose to get your hair done, be clear about the price before sitting down. Also, be careful of “add on” services because they will charge you. The salon is clean and you don’t have to wait long

I went there yesterday to get my hair dyed in the back, the color came out great, however… The dye was burning my scalp. I told her that is burning and she said “it’s ok”. She then washed my hair blow dried it and flat ironed it, however once I got home and I started combing my hair she did not completely wash the dye out and now my hair is hard in the middle of my head. And it hurts. They also do no clean there tools, used the same combs and brushes on everyone’s head. They need to do better.

I had to come here due to an emergency. I had an event to go to and my original stylish was not able to do it. I decided to come here based off the positive reviews, but unfortunately I did not experience that. First off when I came in I wasn’t asked my name my appointment time or anything. She just check my temp and told me to sit. The lady who washed my hair was ok, she made a comment about my hair being tangled, but I just took my braids out so I kinda expected it. The real issue was the lady who did my blowout. I wish I knew her name because she was VERY unprofessional. When she took my scarf off she yelled OMG! EXTREMELY UNPROFESSIONAL! First off I have shrinkage and 4C hair and if you’re not use to seeing this hair grade how are you a hairstylist. Throughout the process she kept saying this, and the lady beside her was looking and laughing! I was so embarrassed I had to call my sister. She did a rush job it looked terrible but I was in a rush and had no time to wait and have her do it again! I was highly disappointed in my service! I was highly upset at the embarrassment and how I was treated. People were staring at me and everything. I’ve never been treated like this in a salon. If I could give 0 stars I would!

I scheduled an appointment for 4 pm via their website. I get to my appointment and the door is locked. I waited at the door for 5 minutes before the manager sent someone to the door to let me know that they are closed. I told her that I had an appointment at 4 pm and showed her the email. She then goes to tell the manager that I have an appointment and comes back to say that the manager told her to say that they’re closed. I asked to speak to the manager several times band she finally come out and says “we take our last appointment at 3:45 pm so I’m notsure why the system would let you book a 4 pm appointment, we’ve been here since 8 am and we close at 5 pm.” Instead of her accommodating me or apologizing for the mishap, she closes the door and lock it. Very unprofessional! I’ve been coming here for years, but never again.

I missed my appointment with my original beautician. I immediately panicked and a friend recommended VIP Dominicans Beauty Salon on University.I called and scheduled an appointment for that day.(Good Friday). When I arrived the manager of the salon (Nanny) approached me, took my temperature and asked what services I wanted.Although the shop was extremely busy with customers coming in and leaving out, my appointment moved so quickly. I was treated with care and courtesy. I was in and out the shop within two hours.My experience was so pleasurable that I scheduled an appointment for the following week. My second appointment was even better than the first.I definitely recommend this salon.

I really love my hair... I had braids for a while and wanted my hair straightened. I have never been to this place but did some research online and decided to go here. The women are nice and the shop is clean. They have their own little routine going to get everyone in and out. Glad I picked this salon and love my hair I will be going back soon.

I had to come back and do my review over after my hair was done the first time I did not like it Marilyn was very nice about fixing the issues that I had she made me fully aware that she is not in the business for the money and that she would fix my hair. My hair was fixed on her next availability and I love it she’s a sweet lady and she takes pride in her work!!! I do recommend her and will be back.

Went there two weeks in a row to get a wash & blow dry honestly my hair is worst than it was . It doesn’t last or they didn’t do a well enough job on the blow dry. The second time I went I knew the ladies were talking about my hair in Spanish unbeknownst to them I understood what was being said . They lady said my hair was nappy lol but when she did my blow out kept saying how nice my hair was & healthy. They service is bad & for them to disrespect a client in any language is disrespectful. Apparently they only cater to women of Latina decent. I would never go there again

It saddens me to leave this review because I have been coming here for several years however I will not be returning. I had an appointment for 10:30a hair was washed around 10:50 and I did not start having my hair blown out until 12p, I also had very important things to do that day and emphasized it several times which is why an appointment was made vs walking in. There were multiple people who came in after me who got serviced before me. When I asked why, the lady who runs the shop was extremely rude (which she typically is) and had the audacity to put her hand in my face and say chill with a nasty attitude. I asked was there any way I could be compensated for the inconvenience seeing as I wasnt making it to where I had to go on time and it was costing me money myself she said no, so I texted the owner Marlyn (who is usually great with customer service) she initially responded fast but once I explained the problem I was having she stopped responding altogether. If I had known this was how they truly conduct business not only would I have left when the lady rudely put her hand in my face but I would have never given business ever. Instead of walk out when my hair was finally done which I feel would have been justified, I did the right thing and paid and the rude lady who runs the shop tried to charge me a higher amount than what I paid just 2 weeks prior. She honestly just throws a number at you she tries to overcharge every time there is a price chart by length posted but they do not go by it. I would like to say the lady who did my hair was sweet and my hair was beautiful so I did tip her despite my experience. If you do not care about heat damage, customer service or inconsistency this is your place ask for M.Mejia.

This is a great salon and fantastic customer service. The ladies are friendly and quick to accommodate each customer. It is a peaceful place and for those with disabilities I highly recommend this salon.

My 9 year old daughter got a wash and set with a trim. While her hair looks nice my complaint is the price gouging, for a child to be charged $80 is beyond ridiculous and it’s very much over priced. They charge based on length and while daughter has long hair it does not justify spending $80, her father kept asking the price they kept telling him oh wait until her hair is blown out than we can give price. If I was there I would have demanded a price out the gate and walked out when told $80. They will not be getting my business again, use them at your own risk.

I went to get my hair done with my grandma. I got a blow out and got it straightened. It took some time because there was a lot of people. Their accent is very strong so I could barely understand what they were saying😅. Other than that it’s great, also their blow dryers are very hot so u will get burned 😂

I am happy with the service :-) I like that they took temperatures prior to providing services and everyone wore masks. I had a thorough shampoo and conditioning (worker wore gloves) and Señora Mart(h)a gave Me a nice blow dry, flat-iron & style. Thank you!

My sister called to speak to someone over the phone about installing tape-in extensions and was quoted $25 per line, so I believed it wouldnt cost more than $50 (at most) for adding a few pieces of hair to frame my face. This was NOT a full head of extensions at all (owner states full head is $150). It took Kathey, the hairstylist, 15 minutes to install the tape-ins. I then had to request a trim for her to blend my extensions and natural hair. Usually, I do not have to request this from professionals. There was no washing hair, coloring, drying, extra work, etc...it was simply placing 10 adhesive hair pieces into my shoulder length hair.Needless to say, the receptionist at checkout was rude, spoke broken English, and wanted to charge me for $175 for a job that shouldnt have cost more than $40-$50. She claimed to have phoned her manager and said she could not do anything about the discrepancy because she would get in trouble. The receptionist barely spoke or understood English, which would explain why we misunderstood her over the phone to begin with.This was not my first time having this brand of tape-ins installed, and I always get them done in South Florida for reasonable prices and much better quality. The stylist mentioned she was very knowledgeable about extensions but I beg to differ. 2 out of the 10 tape-ins have already loosened and fallen out (and are supposed to last almost a month or more)!This was by far the WORST salon experience I have ever had. The staff is unprofessional, salon is not clean with little air circulation or air conditioning, and their pricing is UNETHICAL. Will never return to this place.

Ive been a faithful customer for years. For years I have never been charged the same price for the same service. I was done when they actually thought I was going to pay $80 for a wash and blowout when the pricing goes to $60. They want to blame my long hair that is not even to my waist. But you are ok with less price on short hair that takes double the time. I will not be back. You should not mess with a womans hard earned money and you tried to hustle me the last time.

This was my first visit to this salon. My hair is natural and I usually wear twists. The hairstylist was fast and professional. She advised me how to keep my curls by pin curling my hair to avoid too much heat. The salon was clean and the stylists all wore masks. I will definitely return!!

This is my second time going to this salon. The first time my blow out didn’t last 24 hours. And today makes it my second time going because I believe in giving second chances. I’m currently unemployed due to COVID-19 so I’m on a strict budget. I still took a chance by going into my savings to get my hair done because it had been a minute since I’ve gotten my natural hair blown out. I received a 20% off coupon from this salon that I can use for ANY purchase! But do you know the receptionist would not honor my coupon?! The receptionist tells me that the owner says that she can only honor the coupon if I get color on my hair but Im standing there showing her that the coupon says that I can use it for ANY purchase so why not honor what you sent to me as a customer!? That was the only reason why I came to get my hair done in the first place. I am extremely upset because why would you send a customer a coupon but not honor it? That is so misleading and deceiving! And not to mention unprofessional! You should not treat your customers that way especially when I’m spending my hard earned money to support your business so for that is why you got 1 star!! I’m really big on providing great customer service and not lying to your customers when they come in to redeem their coupons smh.

My appointment was at9 o’clock. They allowed walk-ins to come in and get service before the ones that had the appointment. This was my first time coming to this location. People that walked in after me was seated before me to get service they have a horrible system.

Ive came here a couple of times. everyone is great and professional. My hair also comes out nice. Kathy is my favorite. However Ive been paying $35-$45 the most $45 due to me getting a deep conditioning and split ends cut. I was recently here this past Saturday and only got a wash and my split ends cut no deep conditioning. I asked the lady how much a blow out would be she said $40 was the starting price depending on hair hair length or whatever. When I got done I was told my price was $55 when i asked how there really was no explanation. needless to say Im not going back.

If you are African-American I would not go here to get your hair done because they do not style your hair to protect it. I lost a lot of hair simply because they do not know how to do it. The lady who washed my hair was detangling it from the root to the tip and everyone knows that’s not what you were supposed to do. I lost more than 4 inches of my hair and I am not happy. Its days later and I am still upset. Go somewhere else if you care about the longevity of your hair.

Went here one time never again... I went specifically for rollers and a blowout.Since moving to charlotte finding a hair salon that doesn’t use a straightening iron has been an almost impossible task...the lady who did my hair told me if you dont use a straightening your hair will frizz.. Ive been doing my hair for years without a straightening iron no frizz.. sure enough reach my car hair frizzed.. THIS IS CALLED NOT KNOWING HOW TO DO A PROPER BLOWOUT. IVE HAD MY HAIR DONE FOR WEEKS AT A TIME WITH A GOOD BLOW DRYING JOB.NOT WORTH MONEY NOR THE TIME.

Today was my first time ever visiting this salon, and might I add I had anxiety on how my hair would turn out because my results in anyN.C salon have not been good thus far. But, my daughter Val has been coming here for some time now and her results whether it be blowout or color are always on point. My daughters stylist is Stephanie. Stephanie is very professional, kind, one who pays attention to detail, and listens to what her client would like done. Let me tell you I could not be any more satisfied, wowed, and extremely happy with what shes done with my hair. My hair looks so healthy, the color looks so natural;the look I was going for and silky. Stephanie has definitely gained another client, she is definitely a stylist to never let go. I just moved to the South from New England, and finding a hair salon I could trust was high on my to do list. I had never heard of VIP Dominican, and being a Caucasian from Rhode Island, I wasnt sure if they even serviced my hair type LOL I mean Im French and Irish not Dominican. I am so glad I went! I risked it all and cut my shoulder length hair into a chin length funky bob, and it came out amazing!! Im going back to see Cathy next week for color, thats how great my experience was!! Every woman walking out the door looked like she heading to the runway! Highly recommend!

Do not get a relaxer from here. For one, they baited and switched me on pricing. I was in the area and calling around salons to price shop. On the phone, they purposely quoted me the price for a touch up relaxer; they didnt present the full pricing structure until I came in person. So, I was quoted $70, only for the price to be switched to $150. But thats not even the worst part. So, the problem is that I was getting a relaxer after 2 years natural. The stylist began by rough combing my hair. She continued even after I complained and could clearly see that a bunch of my hair was coming out. Her solution? Continue to rough comb the hair and just hide the bunches that was coming out in her hands and try to dispose of it so I dont see. She didnt even bother to grease my scalp, I literally had to ask her to grease my scalp. Then she started the relaxer, she literally would put one layer of the relaxer and immediately run a fine tooth comb through the hair. Keep in mind, this is 2 years natural 4C hair, so much hair came out! By the time she was finished, all my volume was gone, my hair looks so thin that I cant even wear it out.Edit: Thanks for the offer but no, thank you. I would like to hold on to the the bit of hair I have left. Who runs a comb while relaxing hair, let alone a fine tooth comb? You have no business relaxing peoples hair.

Today was my first time visiting VIP Dominican Beauty Salon and the experience exceeded my expectations! Marlyn is absolutely amazing! So kind, so professional and so talented! After a deep condition, blow out, and trim my hair looks and feels fabulous. I highly recommend this salon!

I got a blow out at the north Tryon location by a stylist she burnt me multiple times with the flat irons on my ears, neck, and forehead. The area on my forehead is severely burnt. I have been to this location several times never gotten burnt by flat irons this was my first time going to that stylist at this location and I will never return again. I’m not sure how to add photos on google I have also posted pictures on there Facebook page.

I am transitioning from relaxed to natural and I came in for a blowout and just let me tell you NiNi is simply AMAZING! Everything about my experience here was great... Price...time (in and out in an hour)...end results! I cant say enough... I will definitely be coming back.

Hello my daughter usually would go to the Harrisburg location but we came to this one due to moving for some reason her natural hair doesn’t curl like it use to and it’s be 4months since her blowout at this location I’m concerned a chemical shampoo was used of some sort she’s only 9 and gets a blowout 2 times a year

I was very hesitant to leave this review, I really like to spread positivity but; I felt it was right to share. I’ve been to this salon 3-4 times and all thought everyone is nice upon entry, it’s not very organized/professional. The first time I came I had a wonderful experience with NiNi, she was excellent and kind. The following times in the salon I have made scheduled appointments to be seen by her but, excuses would be made that she’s “busy” or “over booked” and another stylist would have to see me. I really needed my hair done so I did not mind, even though it didn’t look as good as when NiNi did it the first time. My most recent trip in the same thing happened, I made a scheduled appointment with the stylist I wanted and AGAIN, the excuses.. I needed my hair done so wasn’t upset about it, what did upset is the stylists around me arguing who would do my hair. It made me feel less than and unimportant. Unfortunately, on top of all of this my stylist burnt my forehead (I can share photos) and did not seem to care. I couldn’t believe the service I had received was so poor. On top of all of this mishap, I noticed the price is always different when I come here. Every time I get: a deep condition, blowout and trim.. the price ranges from $45-$65. This review is not meant to be nasty, just to inform your salon and others.

This place is great! My hair is severely damaged and they exceeded my expectations!!! I left with so much body in my hair and it feels so silky and smooth. My new favorite salon! I cant wait to go back which will be happening TODAY!!

Came a few times and recently brought my daughter to her hair Wash Set and blown. Reasonable prices and they get you in and out. Hair comes out beautiful and healthy looking. Believe me Ive been looking, but most Salons are over priced. Im a from NYC. Have been getting Dominican Blowouts all my life. Overall, beats any others in town.

Today, I went and got a blowout and trim and the service was wonderful. I was even more pleased by the results. I am a 4c natural and it is a challenge whenever I come to a salon to get my hair done and they accepted the challenge and got the job done. I will be coming back in the near future.

MY HAIR IS SOO THIN NOW!!!!! I’ve been going here a couple of times and other than them lying about prices, my hair always looks great afterwards until my most previous visit. There was a lady washing hair ive never seen before and she should have never stepped foot in a hair salon. She handles hair too rough, does not care about the health of your hair, and detangles hair from the top and forces it down pulling out millions of strands of my hair. I have never experienced this before. My hair was so flat because it got sooo thin. My hair has never felt the same since and now I have to look for hair thickening tools to get my hair back to what it used to be. I am so disappointed.

I was referred to this salon and I have to say I dont agree with the negative reviews. This salon has taken care of my hair so much that my 1st visit i came in with neck length hair and 1 year later i have mid back length hair. They really take care of your hair and dont put chemicals in your natural hair or relaxed hair that dont need to be in there. Of course there is a wait to get your hair done when there is 30 ppl trying to get their hair done at the same time. Have patience and the end result will be worth it..this is a great salon with respectful employees who treat their customers good.

I have been going to Marlyn’s salons for nine years! She also has one in concord and one in Harrisburg! Listen, when i first relocated from NY there were tons of places people sent me. No one cares more, no service was better and it didn’t matter who hooked me up they knew my expectations of healthy hair! My hair is picture perfect and healthy because of Marlyn Cruz! She won’t fry ur hair instead she will take good care of u and show u how to care for ur hair! I trust her with my all and any cut, any style! She is a lifesaver! Make an appointment right NOW!

Hair smelt burnt after and even own family commented when they came around me. Also hair frizz up the same day terrible experience. Make sure you ask the price before getting done. My hair is shoulder length and they told me to pay $10 more because of it. Do yourself a favor if youre natural just spend a lil more money and go to a person who specializes in natural hair. They used no humidity control products or nothing just blowed and the used a cheap $20 hot tools flat ironed. Beware!!!

This was my first visit at the N Tryon location. Upon entering I was greeted by a young lady who did not look happy to be there. I got there at 12 and did not leave until 3:25pm. There was a young lady who was waiting on an appointment but the client was late. She was hesitant to take me then did not know how to do a roller set. After I was under the dryer she refused to check me to see if I was dry! The young black girl rolled me and was going to finish it until Mayi stepped in and took me. If it wasn’t for her I would have went completely off because this younger generation has no customer service skills. The young lady even went over and was whispering something about me. I was heated! But all and all Mayi did her thang and was pleasent! I will not recommend going unless you have an appointment. This is sad because no one should ever feel the way I did as a walk in. There where people just sitting around for at least an hour before it got real busy. That’s not cool at all. If I do decide to go back it will be with Mayi only.

The newest location is nice. I have gone to the Harrisburg location several times and didnt feel as welcome as I do here. I had my hair blown out and trimmed by NiNi. This is the first time I have had any services done by NiNi. She was friendly, polite and gave a really great trim to my hair. I will return to this location when its time to get my hair done again and probably go back to NiNi.

Worst service ever. Not professional. Not clean at all. Felt like sitting in a fish market The service people didnt even realise that they were splashing dirty water on the next customer while hair wash for another person.They use the same dirty towel in multiple customers. The same towels were used to wipe the wash basins, dust bin lids etc.. will never visit ever.

They tried to charge me $65 for a regular blowout with no deep condition and even threatened more since my hair is a little past my shoulders .. I have been there before and never paid more than $45. Not happy with the inconsistency.

Expect to spend all day here and when they say it’s a certain amount of people in front of you before you are next , a walk in will come in with no appointment perhaps one of their friends and they will do their hair before yours even though you might of been next and been waiting for almost 3 hours .
