I have used CMD for my car repairs since moving to Charlotte and they are outstanding. They can generally fit you into the schedule very quickly and turnaround time is even faster. They’re great at communicating exactly what they recommend getting fixed, and are very honest with what is absolutely necessary versus what can wait. They also take the time to explain exactly what is going on and what could go wrong if repairs aren’t completed. They don’t try to sell anything you don’t need and the prices are extremely fair. They also prepare you if they think something may end up being costlier, rather than completing the work and just charging more. I will continue to use them and recommend them as my go-to mechanics.

I travel for a living and finding good, honest mechanics can always be tricky. The staff at CMD were friendly and professional. I only came in for an oil change but they were able to see me that day and I was on my way in no time. Any time I come through Charlotte these will be my guys for all my auto needs. GREAT first experience with this company. I called needing a headlight replaced and Kevin was extremely helpful over the phone. He gave me pricing info right away and explained the process since this was new to me. I dropped my car off 20 minutes later and 30 minutes later it was ready to be picked up. I have been a CMD customer for many years ever since they opened the shop on South Blvd (they have since moved). I try to do as much work on my own cars as possible but when I dont have the time or the energy or the expertise, I take it to CMD because they do it right. This shop is very different than any other shop. They are honest, straight-up, helpful and provide very high quality service. I tried some of the other notable shops in town but they just dont even come close to the level of honesty, quality and customer service as CMD.

My car wouldn’t start yesterday and I was going to get my car towed to CMD Automotive so that they could diagnose what was wrong with it. I called ahead of time to make sure it was okay for me to bring my car, and Kevin was extremely helpful and provided great customer service over the phone. I ended up being able to get my car started after waiting on a tow truck for a long time, so I ended up not bringing my car to CMD Automotive after all. After having a horrible experience with the towing company, speaking to Kevin definitely put me at ease and his knowledge and customer service were excellent. I am definitely going to use them for my future car needs.

Was highly pleased with the quality of the service and support from the entire team. Lets face it. Finding a repair shop that only corrects what is broken and then doing so honestly is rare. The turn around was good and the estimates were spot on with the end cost.

I went to CMD on a recommendation. I wish I had found it long ago. Everyone there is really friendly and professional. I got a detailed explanation of what was and WASN’T needed. Drinks in the fridge. Clean waiting area. WI-FI. And a really good place across the street to get coffee while you wait (beer too, later in the day). Will definitely return.

Edit regarding owner response:It is true that they did not offer to replace my break pads or to talk me into anything, and for that Im appreciative.I recognize that there is a possibility for miscommunication, but I feel strongly that I had been mislead.I was told that the break pads needed to be replaced soon, or I could damage the calipers, which would then need to be replaced as well, giving the pad replacement urgency. When I asked how soon is soon I was told that it depends on how I drive it, which makes sense.Even after the owner response, I feel that, had I blindly followed their advice and replaced the break pads there, I would have payed for a job that is not necessary for another ~20k milesAt no point was I told that I should get it looked at by my regular mechanic, that course of action was brought up by me at CMDWent here the morning of October 2nd for an oil change, which went well, the staff was very friendly and welcoming.After the oil change was completed and I went to pick it up, the staff told me that the brake pads were low, and if I didnt replace them soon Id have to replace the calipers as well. I elected to replace them later, as I had more repairs to be done at my normal mechanic when I return home (I was in Charlotte for travel) and I figured I could get the brake pads done at that time.My normal mechanic reported that the front pads (as of today) are at 50% and the back pads are at 90%, so they have about another 20k miles left.If I need more work done in Charlotte, Ill be going elsewhereTL;DR: Friendly staff, fast service, but beware of being swindled!

Kevin at CMD auto was awesome. To make a long story short I bought a used car that I shouldn’t have purchased. It had a bunch of problems. The first place I took it too gave me an outrageous quote, and said if I did the work they recommended the car would be good to go. I went to CMD for a second opinion and price quote.Not only did the first place miss that the car needed a new transmission, even with this added cost the quote CMD gave me was less than that of the first place I went.More importantly, Kevin was honest and told me that he would not recommend moving forward with repairs and to get what I could get for the car. No use throwing good money after bad.I appreciate his honesty, and after all of that he didn’t even charge me for the inspection they did.I will take any other used car I may purchase to CMD and would highly recommend it to anyone who asks.

I’ve taken my vehicles to CMD for many years now. They have always done great work, and are great at answering any questions or dealing with any concerns. They have a great pre-sale inspection service where they will do 3 inspections for $99 on any used car that you are thinking about buying. There have been a couple of times where I have brought a vehicle in thinking that it was definitely the one only to have them tell me that it was in my best interest not to buy the car. They would then point out the multiple issues that the car had that often did not show up on the Carfax. What’s scary is that when presented with these issues the dealers wouldn’t even bat an eye, shake my hand, and tell me “have a nice day”. Just shows you that most car dealerships are about the sale and not what’s best for you. If you don’t have a presale inspection done on a used car before purchase then you are asking to be screwed over. This shop is great, and will not be using anyone else as long as I’m in Charlotte.

CMD has cared for all of our familys cars, foreign and domestic, for over 15 + years - wouldnt take my car anywhere else. I have total confidence in their staff and their mechanics because they are highly skilled, courteous and professional. UPDATE ON 8/9/19: It is unfortunate that the owner chose to call my review “simply inaccurate.” I don’t lie. Everything in my review below is true. The owner said his service adviser explained his position in detail to me well over 15 minutes. Below is a picture of my call log from the phone company showing the call to CMD (check their number) on the date of the original review. The call lasted 3 minutes. I did not insist upon my way, nor did the service adviser explained why they couldn’t accommodate making an appointment for me. None of that could have happened in a 3-minute exchange. All what happened is in my original review. I disagree with the owner that they don’t “deserve a bad review from someone who has never been a customer.” I started my review by saying it is not regarding the quality of their repair, rather the quality of their customer service, which, in my experience, was lacking.This review is regarding CMDs customer service, not the quality of their repairs. I called asking to make an appointment, thats it. The guy said to bring my car in and theyll look at it before lunch. I again said Id like to make an appointment so I dont have to wait. His response was that they start looking at the cars at their own pace, and customer dont dictate that. He proceeded to say if that doesnt work for you thats fine. That was my first time calling! The level of unprofessionalism is unprecedented. Few other service providers are willing to lose customers just like that. He could have just said sorry, we operate on a first-come-first-served basis. Why the attitude?

These guys are great. Ive taken my old Honda to them on a couple of occasions, and they always gave it to me straight (even recommending against some unnecessary repairs). When the Honda finally died for good, I had it towed to their shop to look at. They were very gracious in allowing me as much time as I needed to arrange for the car to be sold for scrap value, while it was parked on their property. Highly recommended.

As a woman who doesnt know a lot about cars, CMD has earned my trust. Ive taken my car for service twice now. I was impressed the first time (upfront quotes, clearly explained, true to their word, fair pricing, provided either a ride or light rail ticket back to my office, clean space inside the wait room). The 2nd time I was having a simple issue w/ my tire light pressure that kept coming on in error and they did not charge me at all. I will cont. to bring my car here.

Was disappointed. got a bid for 6500 for brake, ujoints, ball joints, transmission. When we stated we were leaving, they told us they wanted 4500 now. The front brakes pads were about half worn. the front wheels are not loose or sloppy. I checked the master cylinder which they wanted to replace, and of the two wiring harnesss, one was unplugged. I plugged it in and the brakes work great. Avoid these guys. They wanted 200 to replace the door posts and bushings. It is a $2 item and it wont solve the problem as the door welds have come loose. There is only a star there because you have to give one star to make a post.

Ive been having these guys service my cars for over 5 years. They are fair, knowledgeable and honest. Theyve always correctly diagnosed the problems Ive had and fixed them correctly. And they will tell you when a certain repair is not cost-effective.

They are the best at communication of any automotive shop Ive ever been to. Theyll tell you whats wrong with your car, how much it will cost to fix, whether or not its something that has to be done or has to be done right then and there (and that you dont get most places, most use a little bit of fear by telling you all the horrible things that will go wrong if you dont do something, but wont tell you that you could wait another 1000 miles before you really need to worry about it). Ive never left there thinking Id been had- and everything theyve fixed theyve only done once. Never had to take it back to have the same problem fixed twice.

I just had a major repair done for the second time with this shop and they are the best I have ever found. I completely trust them with my Saab 92-X and their rates are far better than any one else around. The first time they had a machinist remake a part in my tranny because there were no parts available except a total new tranny. My car is a rare model that all other shops scratch their head with but they know exactly how to fix and respect my car. I highly recommend them for any vehicle. Their prices are second to none which is a huge plus too.Thank you for making my Saab-arro a go-go again after 134K!

The repairs seem to have been completed as expected. Customer friendliness was less than stellar. When I arrived, I wasnt greeted with a Hello, how can I help you. Instead, it was frown with no greeting and a rather cold welcome. Perhaps both were having a bad start to the morning, but the front of the house can leave a bad impression no matter the quality of the service work in the back of the house.

CMD Automotive is honest and forthright. I was referred to Kevin (by McClure), which does not do engine related repairs. I had previously gone to another place, but was not satisfied because they charged a lot and also even after fixing it just the month prior, the problem was not solved. The other place quoted another high price to fix my car just one month later, but the repair list did not seem to address the problems, so I took my car to CMD. Kevin took a look and quickly got to the root of the problem (which the other place missed twice). Kevin was honest about the extent of the problem and the cost, and showed me an animation of exactly what was wrong. He suggested that I do not go through with the repair since my car is old and it would be better if I got another car for a cheap price, so he gave up money to be honest. I appreciate telling the truth instead of doing small repairs here and there to keep a dying car going. I just wish Id gone to CMD a month earlier so I would have saved more money.
