Walking into the store was like stepping back in time. It was neat to see all those original pieces. He talked to me about the unit, gave me a new antenna and the fix was done in less than a week.Even though the price was higher than I had expected, I must say my 35yo Marantz receiver is working better than it has in years. I listen to it more because it sounds so good again and I can dial channels in better too. Solid work!

Nice variety of vintage audio gear. Nice guy. Had my SX-1250 repaired here a couple weeks ago. Fixed speaker channels, cleaned knobs and switches, solder joints and I think a couple capacitors. Was very happy with his quick turnaround and receiver is sounding better than it ever has. Nice to have all my channels working again too. Thanks man!

Audio Sound Solutions on Sam Rittenburg Boulevard in West Ashley is a great place to go for all things audio equipment. They have a really good selection available and good value for the items that they have available. This is a fun place to shop and I have had a good experience coming here and have had many successful trips finding exactly what I was looking for.

If you are looking for vintage stereo equipment, this is the place to go! Michael has 100s of pieces of audio equipment going back many many years. From tube equipment to compact disk, he has it all. It is really amazing to see so much audio equipment in one place. One of Michaels specialties is repairs and he is very honest and upfront on costs. The knowledge he has for everything audio related is unreal. I go in regularly just to see what new treasures he may have acquired since last time I was in!

We got a vintage stereo system here (a Marantz, along with a separate turntable and CD player) and are very happy with it. When we were having some troubles getting them to all sync up/work together optimally, Michael came out to our house no charge and helped us make sure they were all hooked up in the best way, showed me more about me how everything worked and answered all my questions. The store has an amazing selection of all different, many vintage, stereo components, systems and radios. It was hard to choose for me since there is so much stuff, but he hooked us up. Now we can play our old cassette tapes, CDs and records and listen to the radio on great speakers. Also, its great to be recycling instead of buying new! I love supporting businesses that support reusing. Thanks Michael!

The first time I went into the shop to see about repairing my receiver the owner was on the phone and I sat there without a word and finally left. I later made the mistake of returning and brought my receiver for repair. He said he could look at for $35 and that I would be charged for additional parts. I agreed and got my ticket from him and left him my phone and e-mail. After no word for over a month a dropped in the store and asked him the status of my receiver. The owner said he was waiting on parts to come in so he could repair it. Given the amount of time I had waited I found it odd that he he didt have the parts yet and also unprofessional that he never contacted after the alleged analysis of the receiver. After two months or more and no word from Audio Sound Solutions I dropped in again. I asked about the receiver and was told by the owner it was too expensive to repair. He said nothing about the parts he had ordered, he said nothing about what was wrong with the receiver, or what too expensive to repair was, nor did he say why he never made any attempt to contact me at any point to let my know the status of my receiver. I did not wish to deal with him anymore so I simply asked for my receiver back. He seemed a bot surprised I wanted it back but agreed and then proceeded to retrieve it, He looked around his shop in various areas which led me to believe he was either very disorganized or making a show because he had done something with it or used my receiver for parts. In any case I was very upset to not even be able to get my equipment back and take it to a more professional repair shop.

This is the only time Ive ever felt compelled enough to poorly rate a business. Ill bullet point my experience with this place as concisely as possible. I own a vintage turntable that needed to be fixed.- I needed to make 7 round trips to the shop.- my turntable is still not fixed.- When I called initially, I asked, but was not given an estimate.- I was charged $260 and asked to pay with cash. I was given no receipt. When I asked for one, he wrote turntable on a piece of memo paper and handed it to me.- The owner is a snob and makes me feel very uncomfortable to do business with.- The owner accused me of intentionally stretching the belt on my turntable, and that was his reason for it not being fixed properly.- After the owner was through swearing up and down that there was nothing wrong with the turntable, I still couldnt play a record all the way through successfully. I had another reputable engineer inspect it, and he slid the housing off of the end of the connector to find wires that hadnt even been soldered together. When I called the owner to tell him this, he said, bring it back and Ill fix it.I would not trust this shops work to change a light bulb. Even after giving them 7 chances to do so. I contemplated calling the BBB and NY tax evasion office to file a complaint. I may still do that. Stay away from this place.

Giving this guy a one, and Ive never been to his store. You can tell a lot about a store simply by its appearance.. Major fail there. I see his bad reviews are the only ones with multiple likes, which tells me those are real reviews. Already had my stuff loaded in the car for repairs until I read this. Thanks for the heads up...Too many places you can go!!

I recently brought an early 80s power amplifier to Audio Sound Solutions for an expert repair diagnosis and evaluation. I had purchased this amplifier as a project (i.e. in non-working condition) from someone on eBay, and had hoped it might be a simple fix so that Id have a match to an amplifier I already have. Unfortunately, the news was not good-- it turned out it would not be economically sound (no pun intended) to pursue fixing the amplifier. In fact, the evaluation revealed that it had enough damaged components that the parts and repair labor costs would certainly be greater than the value of the amplifier, in part because multiple iterations of repairs and testing would likely to be needed to remediate all the issues. While I was sad to get this news, I certainly respect and appreciate that I received an objective, realistic evaluation based on value-- and the advice not to invest in repairing this particular amplifier-- rather than going the path of a major repair that would have exceeded the cost of another working amplifier. Thank you for the professional evaluation and sound advice!

Unbelievably horrible. I called asking for an estimate for a receiver repair, gave the guy on the phone an overview of the problem (Onkyo, sound not getting to speakers, no other issues with the receiver that I know of). He was extremely rude not once, but twice. When I asked for a ballpark figure, which should be no big deal at a place that deals in repairs and estimates, instead of giving me any sort of range (e.g. $100/hr or $50-250 for a repair) he instead responded, very snidely, So you want me to give you an estimate for a receiver IVE NEVER SEEN BEFORE? I told him, Nope, not any more.. and hung up. Really shocking behavior from someone in a service industry, sad. Could not believe how rude the guy was. I was polite, tried to explain clearly and quickly, and he was.. ugh. Nobody should treat a customer that way. Its inexcusable.

Guy was extremely rude on the phone. Brought my receiver in to be fixed. It had a buzzing sound once warmed up. Poor customer service and they dont know what theyre doing here.

I was a customer of this place for about 6 years. I purchased a Thorens TD 160 record player and a Fisher 400 stereo receiver. I had issues with both purchases but ultimately, I am happy with those purchases. This all changed today. First, let me say, I know a lot about vintage audio gear and own some mid range stereo equipment, like Pro-Ject, Polk, Yamaha, vintage Fisher, and Thorens. I am also a DJ and I have experience. I also have some tech experience with electronics and taking old BSR record players apart and putting them back together again to make them work better or work after many years. Now, on to the review. This owner is the most patronizing business person I have ever met. I am so patient with people, so I just put up with his comments. But I agree with other posters that he makes comments that are unheard of especially when doing business. I purchased an Garrard AT 60 record player changer (probably 1970s) to play some 78s. The player worked in the store when he tested it but when I got home I noticed the press board on the plinth was warped. I could not level the turntable. When I told him about this he just stated, put something under the turntable and you are a very picky person and you read too much on the internet etc. The idler wheel also failed and I tested this. The turn table stopped turning. He told me on the phone he does not deal with idler wheels, but when i went back with the turntable he then told me he would fix the idler wheel. He also went down in his basement and found another plinth that was also warped. When I pointed out the warping boards he just said I was too picky and he denied that it was a problem for a turntable. Just put something under it. Why would I put something under a vintage turntable? I explained that as a customer I need to be happy. He is an all cash business so you cannot fight this with your credit card company. He will not return your money Listen, I bought this on Saturday, he is closed on Sunday and I went back for a return on Monday first thing at 11am. He opens at 10am. I had legitimate complaints about the product and this was not just a, I changed my mind kind of thing. Fortunately, he did give me store credit. I purchased records with my store credit. I dont think he liked this as he was trying to have me look around the store for another record player. I just lost all trust and am no longer a patron of this business. Its unfortunate because I am the type of person that likes to support small businesses in my area, especially a place that deals in unique audio equipment. On a side note, I told him I was more interested in belt driven turntables as the low to mid priced direct drive tables are more likely to create resonances in the stylus during recording of the signal. He tells me that the signal is not recorded and is only heard in the speakers during playback. Not true at all. Any vibrations, noise floor, etc will be recorded when using a turntable. Garbage in = garbage out. If the problem was the speaker, I would agree. But a buzzing speaker is not the same thing as a motor resonance from a turntable.
