Mike is the best mechanic I know and probably the best one Ive ever had anywhere. Between myself, my wife and our kids weve got at least 5 cars in regular rotation and he takes care of everything with expertise and helpfulness. Hes also very fairly priced, doesnt recommend needless work, and on the rare occasions weve had a follow-up to resolve something not quite perfect after a visit its no question and no charge.

The man at the front desk was so rude to me that I got in my car and literally sobbed. I was not angry or upset about the service; I was simply asking some clarifying questions to better understand the diagnosis. When he started saying car jargon I wasn’t familiar with, I asked for a pen, so I could write it down. He angrily held up a hand and told me to “calm down” and “take a breath.” I was honestly shocked, and I tried to joke it off, but he just said more disparaging and rude things. It was really strange—I have no idea why he was so impolite to me, when I was contentedly paying, and I wasn’t complaining. I just wanted to make sure I could remember what he said later. It was so aggressive, it felt a little scary. Why would a man be so hostile with a polite and paying female customer? Our family has received service there several times in the past, but we will obvious not return. I don’t need a side of verbal abuse and misogyny with my car repair work. (And I hope the front desk gentleman uses my payment today for therapy and anger management. Jeez, man. In your words, “calm down” and “take a breath” before you talk to people in such a cruel way.)

I just relocated to the area and wandered in looking for a place to take my car for inspection. They were super friendly and helpful in getting me set up with an appt and then clearly communicated what needed to be fixed. My issue had to be taken care of elsewhere, but they told me not to worry about making a follow-up appt once I had the issue taken care of - just to let them know it was done and they would squeeze in the re-inspection. That worked out great. Ill certainly plan to use them for future maintenance!

The shops in CH/Carrboro have been infamous for a long time for overcharging, sloppy and unnecessary work. I think this is because of the large student population with parental credit cards. Once nearby place actually gave me my car back without the air intake manifold then acted like this was a minor oversight.F&F was suggested to me and I have been using them for a while. Dont expect to be waited on like a prince and have your feeling validated. These are serious and honest mechanics some some waiting room fluffs.I knew I had found the right place when they gave me overall assessments of my vehicle including what I should consider sooner versus later down the road. It had been a long time since someone looked carefully enough to do this for me.The most important quality of a mechanic is honesty. If you dont have that, they can pull anything. This said, they are not going to put up with a lot of attitude before they send you packing. You should be grateful for a business like this and show it.

My father has been going to F&F for 15+ years- the former owner was an older gentleman, and he was the most fair and honest business person we have encountered. We have taken many of our cars there now as well. His son has now taken over, and clearly keeps his father’s mission in mind:Fair Pricing, honest estimates, and great work.I came on here to review them, not only to review the great work I have had, as well as my family, but also because my father has a very thick accent, and we have never been treated anything but kind & fair by this business. I was sad to see some negative reviews, and was glad I came on to discuss our experience with them for more than 15 years as a family. They sometimes charge such a fair price that I have felt guilty! The work is always done right and on time- and we have even referred friends to them. I believe this family has carried on a great business for this many years by just doing the right thing, and treating people the way they would want to be treated themselves. We have purchased tires, many repairs, batteries, full car part replacements (that they’ve ordered new from the manufacturer for us) and have had nothing but A+ service. Give them a chance, you won’t be sorry!

Read their reactions to sub-5-star reviews on here and you will know everything you need to know about how F&F Automotive operates. You want to drive into that mess when you just need an oil change? It would seem redundant to even bother detailing the particular treatment I received there, as so many others have already done so. Suffice it to say: slow, combative, inept.Anyone who doesnt love their services is either lying or yelled a bunch. They seem to have some conspiracy theory cooked up about a place down the street asking people to leave negative reviews, but I honestly dont even know what the hell that means or which place they mean. They just plain have irresponsible and awful service. Ive had a few local friends get in touch with me to ask where else Id recommend because they were also done dirty by this place, and Ive recommended different shops based on their different needs. I am a regular customer and went to Michael to have the brakes on a used car Id just bought checked. He checked the whole car over, alerted me that it had many expensive problems, told me to take it back under lemon law, and didnt charge me (I had been in recently with my very old former car needing repairs and he knew I was having to be careful with money). He gave me a tech sheet listing all the issues, which I then showed to the dealer, and they took the car back. They seemed to feel bad about it, and then gave me a much newer, certified one, still under warranty, for a lowered price. Michaels noticing the problems with the other car saved me from being bound to yet another undependable vehicle. He also did this quickly on a busy Friday afternoon, without my having made an appointment. I highly recommend F & F.

Greatness can be evaluated through comparison. I was touched by F&F so I have to write my first google review. I broke my cigarette lighter by doing something stupid with it. It should be easy to fix according to the Internet. I went to the first auto repair. They didnt have time until the next business day, which was totally understandable. But it would be $45 or more. Then the second place, they would charge $90 to check the whole electrical system and said would take at least 3 hrs. Finally I went to F&F. Only one mechanics was in the store. He was super nice, took a look at my car, and fixed it in 5 mins with no charge! I was so grateful and will definitely come back next time.

F and F was recommended me to me by a colleague early last year. My initial experiences were neutral-- they were pleasant and generally seemed on the ball.Subsequently, I had issues with my honda van pulling to the left when driving. I took it to F and F and they aligned the front end. The problem persisted and I took it back and they said they rechecked the alignment and it was fine. They rotated the tires ( all appropriate things) and said the pull was gone. It was not. This time, they also flushed my brake fluid (which probably needed to be done but had nothing to do with the steering pulling) without asking before hand and that cost $180. I called back a voiced my concerns and that I wanted to talk to them about what to do next and that I was frustrated with the lack of progress. I also voiced my concern over not checking with customers for repairs >$100 ( probably the standard). I never received a call back.I finally took the car to the dealer where they showed me the the alignment on the front end was not correct. They put the car back into spec and it seems to be fixed. On a positive note, when one of my brake pads that F and F installed wore down way to quickly ( on the same van) , they did replace it free of charge. On the whole, however, my experiences with F and F have been negative and I will not be returning.

I looked in Google near places to do NC inspection and unfortunately I found this place near my home. Then I went there in the early morning to do it, and the guy told me that I should have an appointment, so I did the appointment to the next day afternoon. So I went there the next day to do the inspection, the guy barely turn on the car and said that the car has problems because of the lights of panel were turned on, ( which is not true, the car runs great, its just a sensor problem) and probably the car will not pass in the inspection and I do not have time to do the inspection right now, please find somewhere else. So I left there and found it another place to do it and then 30 minutes later I already had the inspection in my hands. I did not like the way that they treat me there and it was the worst treatment that I ever had.

**Posted after Owner Response1 star for your piss-poor attitude as a shop owner and abhorrent customer interaction.* I was aware of the cost of my inspection. You asked me what county I reside in and I stated Alamance, to which you responded the price and that Orange and Durham pay 13-ish which is fine. In friendly conversation, I said the cost was fine and I simply stated I found it odd that Orange and Durham would remove emission tests from state inspections seeing how they are generally more environmentally conscious than Alamance County. Thats OK and like I mentioned, I pay far less taxes in that County than Orange or Durham do. Never did I mention or rant anything about rich and poor people like you stated. I find it odd that in our initial exchange of conversation you perceived this as tolerating customer conversation relating to the business that was at hand.* You also yelled at your technician to bring me those keys after you park the car as I was standing outside on the phone. This was an obvious paranoia you voiced that I would somehow get/grab the keys from the tech and zoom off in my car without paying. Disregard the fact that you just performed a state inspection on my car which has every bit of information about who I am and where to find me if I had done so but hey, I get it... 40 dollars is 40 dollars.* After coming to desk to pay up you state $40 dollars instead of the $30 to my surprise. Naturally I questioned the difference in stated cost of the service because of being unaware of the $10 fee for window tint. This is perfectly acceptable for any customer to question unforeseen charges and you should be aware that people do that. The issue here is your attitude and defensiveness about explaining these costs. You seemed very angry that I was unaware of the extra cost when questioning it, even vehemently stating its state law and firmly pointing to a wall of documents behind you. Its my prerogative as the customer who is paying, to question up-charges with defensiveness. Its your job as the business to provide explanation of those charges.. No you dont have to do it politely but you could at least try and see if that gets you less consistent 1 star reviews on Google where people seem to have very similar interactions with you as the business owner. Either way, thanks for the inspection and the free candy.*** Potential Customers beware - If the lower scores have a consensus of what its like to do business (with the owner) at this establishment, chances are they are absolutely correct. Terrible customer service interaction and attitude from owner. Dont go here unless you want to be treated the same way.

The Jeep specialist is awesome. Michael Fogelman? Not so much. Rude, dishonest, fast talking jerk. At the time I brought in my Jeep last August they offered a free inspection. After $900 of work I still never received a free inspection and was told when I came in for an alignment they would perform the free inspection. That’s just the tip of the iceberg. I brought my Jeep in for them to make good on the one year warranty they offer on their work, but not surprisingly Mike refused and said the age of my Jeep didn’t allow him to honor his promise. Undoubtedly, mike is going to reply with some nonsense, as he does with every other poor review he receives. The fact is that I had to take my vehicle back several times, and get very stern with mike in order to get the work I paid for done so that my blinkers would work like they should and my interior dash lights to work. Less than one year later the tumblers are slipping and the ignition can be switched without the key. When I brought the vehicle back in mike said “you weren’t happy with the work last time, and it’s been too long since we did the work” I said “it’s been less than a year and you did the work so I’m bringing it back for you to honor the warranty” mike then replied “not on a vehicle that old” hmmm... ok I wonder if the attorney general will see it the same way. The rest of the staff is amazing. Also, let me tell you that when I first brought my Vehicle in one of his staff members said I could drop it off overnight, but I guess mike didn’t know and assumed I just dropped it off all Willy nilly, and scolded me. He’ll also tell you I brought my car to him in pieces in a hand basket. Also not true. The work performed was un jamming a stuck door. And the tumblers in the steering column which affects the dashes electrical and the cars ability to turn over. I don’t know what mikes problem is but it’s ridiculous how he thinks he can get over.

Moving to a new place I am always concerned about finding a good, honest mechanic and BINGO...one month in Chapel Hill/Carrboro and I hit the jackpot with these guys. Will never go anywhere else and recommend no one else do either :)

Took my 2007 Mitsubishi Endeavor for a wheel bearing replacement. They quoted me almost 2x the cost of the part from auto zone etc and 3x the cost of the part from amazon. Was told that they wouldnt warranty their work if I dont buy the part from them, even if its brand new with receipt. Decided id rather take the gamble, spend 200 (90 for the part from amazon, 110 for labor), rather than spending 300 (180 for part + 110 for labor) for a warranty. Noise is gone. Unlike pep boys are other branded car places, they are more than willing to the job the same day and do it while you wait. Very friendly people, and even if you get the part through them, they are cheaper than pep boys. I will go to them for all my future car needs in this area, but will probably source parts myself.

Took in my F150 with 120,000 miles - had a great interaction with Michael and a mechanic - they replaced an ignition coil, serviced the transmission and it drives better than it has in years - good service, good price - very happy
