2 years later and still awesome! I worked with Benjamin who was exceptionally professional and diligent when replacing the ball joints of my lifted 1999 4runner became a little complicated. They even provided me a loaner vehicle when mine had to be kept overnight! Highly recommend.

I have been using Chapel Hill Tire as my car servicing and repair center for more than 30 years. They are experienced, courteous, reliable and honest. Their shuttle service is particularly helpful so that the vehicle can be sèrviced while I am involved with other duties and appointments.

This has been my go-to car maintenance shop in Carrboro. It is super easy to make an appointment, they always inspect the car well, provide their recommendations and complete the repairs on time. I have had no issues with any of their repairs. It is not the cheapest option but worth paying for the great service, their expertise and my peace of mind that my car is in good hands.

I really love all of the Chapel Hill Tire locations. They are always helpful and do their best to service my vehicle despite being very busy all the time. I appreciate the service recommendations they give, and they are always respectful if I decline certain services. They never try to perform services that I don’t need. Their chapel hill and Carrboro locations are very convenient if you work near campus or the hospital - I was able to drop my car off in the morning and take a bus to and from work.

Ive taken my car to Chapel Hill Tire a few times (and this last time I elected to use their free pickup and delivery service which was v convenient--I was so impressed with the parking of whoever delivered my car!!), and the service there is unbeatable. Theyre so wholesome and good and inspire confidence. Theyre incredibly transparent and efficient about any process which is something I really value and appreciate, especially for car care. Ive always known my options, what my car needs, etc., and the text updates and invoices are super helpful. The motto of Drive Happy is so true bc I really do drive happier knowing theres a great place in the neighborhood where I can take my car

You will need to make an appointment to have your car inspected, and because you need to leave your vehicle with them, I highly recommend getting picked up by someone until they get around to checking your vehicle. Other places are much quicker and easier to have this service completed.

Weve been bringing both our cars here for several years now. Chapel Hill Tire are honest and do great work; very good at communicating issues. Highly recommended.

I really wanted to like this place. It has friendly people who seem to know what they are doing. Unfortunately, the prices are not reasonable at all. I havent seen any reasonable quotes on my car repair in the Chapel Hill area, so Im unfortunately going to have to drive 30 minutes away to get affordable service done on my car.

I am not one to write reviews, but this place is an absolute ripoff. $1600+ for brake service where it should normally be around $800. This place charges insanely high prices because they can: theyre in-town and serve a population that isnt exactly car-inclined. Extremely disappointed. Again, if you are a college student, do not go here.

Apparently this is the kind of auto shop where you can be paying for your inspection and hundreds of dollars of repairs, nearly heading out the door, when one of the mechanics suddenly remembers hes forgotten his screwdriver beneath the hood of the car. Apparently this is also the kind of auto shop where you can spend hundreds of dollars on new parts and labor, only to later discover that the labor has failed to install the new parts correctly (something as simple as tightening a belt). Ill be giving Yeargans or Auto Logic a try; I dont want to waste my time or risk my car on sloppy work.

I had a tire blow out on my way home on a Friday.I drive a work van all over the country and its got pretty rare tires to deal with construction sites and foul weather. I was back on the road Monday morning, Blalock towing was recommended and they are also great. I only use them from now on.

It took a second for somebody to help me find where to go, since it was my first time using this location. There were guys standing around and talking while also noticing I was confused, but they didn’t help for a few minutes. Otherwise, the process of it all was professional enough. I enjoyed talking to whoever helped me at the front desk, as he helped explain to me what was wrong with my car. I’m always pretty skeptical of car shops, as I’m not very knowledgeable about the mechanics of cars and how they work. So going to a new place is definitely pretty anxiety-inducing, since you don’t know if they’ll take advantage of you. But they were understanding of my financial situation and helped me as best they could for the lowest price they were able to give me. Obviously, still extremely pricey. Chapel Hill Tire does good work nonetheless, so I would probably go back to them if needed.

Excellent repairs, at a ripoff price.I took my car in after it overheated and the radiator needed to be replaced, among a few other small repairs (replace thermostat, coolant temp sensor, oil change, clean battery), and the grand total came out to $1300. I dont know a lot about cars, so I accepted that price as hefty but necessary, but after looking over the invoice, its pretty clear I got scammed.This whole repair took just under 1 8-hour business day to complete, and the labor costs alone totaled $883—I ran the numbers and that averages out to paying $110/hr just for labor! Who in their right mind thinks thats a fair price? I know car repair is skilled labor, but seriously? $800 for a days work?Huuuuge ripoff. Avoid this place like the plague, especially if youre young and dont know much about cars, you will get seriously preyed upon.

Ended up buying a tire from them. Not mounted not balanced just the tire. Only place in the area that could get my tire size in a timely fashion. Prices are a bit steep but I guess the extra $40 I spent to get the tire the next morning was worth it. The experience at the store was nice walked in and walked out with my tire in under 5 minutes. Spencer was very respectful on the phone. The whole experience (calling and at the store) took no more than 15 minutes of my time.

I am sold on Chapel Hill Tire. I have taken my car there for repairs and I am very pleased with the service and the price and the personnel. The charges are appropriate for the work done. They even advised not to do a service I thought my car needed. Excellent company

We were having a set of normal services done on top of the phantom rumble from the front tire area. They solved the issues and got us going same-day. We had a bit of trouble again with that phantom issue and they were happy to look things over again and conclude that safety wasnt a concern - for free.

Brought my car with my own tire in for a quick change and alignment around 8am. They were booked since the last week but still got my car finished by 3pm.Quality service and fair prices.

So. Ive used them for several years. Usually great. Today simple oil change tire rotation. I pick up my car. No little sticker on windshield saying when next service. The email report said check my windshield washer fluid. It was empty when I checked. Checked my oil volume. I was missing a quart. Glad I checked and replaced it. Im a nurse at Duke. Someone would miss me if my car didnt make it in. My brother said oh maybe someone forgot to finish their job. Maybe. If I forget to finish my job people die. Thumbs down to Chapel Hill Tire in Carrboro.

Tried to get a state inspection twice. Both times there was a technical issue and they couldnt do the inspection. Wasted 3 hours. As a new customer at the location, this was a very negative first impression especially considering this is a relatively simple and quick service. Doubt I am going there again.

Had 4 tires replaced and an alignment done recently. They picked my car up from my job and I got text notifications the whole time my car was being serviced. A few days after, my tire pressure light came on and I took it to them to check. Checked all 4 tires, made adjustments and told me if there are any other issues call them. Great service, friendly associates!!!

I dropped off my car for an oil change and to check if there was an oil leak. They diagnosed the oil leak and said they repaired it within 3 days but then a day later noticed that something was still leaking. They did another intake (free of charge) to fix the problem. They had to order another part which took longer than expected. They communicated clearly however it took almost a week and a half to fix the problem.

I think they are an entirely competent service facility. However, they are somewhat overpriced and I strongly dislike the “up selling” they often do, especially to young, inexperienced car owners (like my 21 year old daughter). And for that I say, shame on them!

I was extremely impressed with this shops reviews so I chose them for my oil change service. Upon calling on Wednesday 3/10/21, I was thrilled about the drop-off/pick-up service and scheduled it for Friday 3/12/21. I gave my information and was told my car would be picked-up between 9-10 and dropped-off between 2-4. Friday morning I left the key on the seat. Around approx 11am, I called to make sure my car was picked up because I hadnt heard anything. The man I spoke with said no one answered my phone so they didnt pick up my vehicle, I had my phone with me all morning and I have no record of missing a call from Chapel Hill Tire. I was told I could schedule an appointment for another day, meanwhile Im in another city and my car is left unlocked with the key inside all day. Very unimpressed with the lack of service and no effort to make the situation right. Back on the hunt of looking for a dependable, quality car shop.

Weve used Chapel Hill Tire for almost a decade now, and we have been continuously happy with their service. Very professional, exceptional customer service, and always a good job - and if something is not quite right the first time, they will take it back and make it right. I want to like Chapel Hill Tire as they are a local business that tries to do good work. However, they have room for improvement. First, I received an email advertising free pickup and delivery for service. So I booked an oil change. I received an email that they would be in touch to work out the details. I never received further correspondence. I called them directly after about three weeks. Second, they came for my vehicle and performed an oil change. They also do a once over of the vehicle. In my case, they generated a list of urgently needed services. One of the services was already performed by them a few months ago. I am sure they did not even look at the brake fluid reservoir to see that the fluid was pristine and full. This is just a way to blindly generate business. Had I followed their recommendations, I would have had a $500+ bill for what should have been a quick oil change. Please at least question what they are suggesting. Finally, they returned the vehicle after I discussed the services with a rep and paid for the oil change. When I popped the hood to take a look to be sure all was in order, I found a mess and puddles of oil near the air intake and around some covers as well as dripping down the radiator. That’s an unacceptable way to leave someone’s vehicle. I cleaned it up myself. The worst part is that this was my second round of these same three issues with service from Chapel Hill Tire. Last time I was cleaning up brake fluid and properly closing my air filter assembly after service. I gave them a second chance, but unfortunately, I will have to move on. I shouldn’t have to write this review. I may try a different location of theirs and be up front about my less than optimal experience in hopes of better service. I hope they will take the opportunity to improve despite the fact that they are always busy and probably don’t need my service. All that said, my interactions with the service reps were always pleasant and they were respectful and polite.

I was told by my local tire store that my wheel bearings were failing and that I’d soon need new shocks/struts - to the tune of $3,000 in work. I was referred to Benjamin at Chapel Hill Tire in Carrboro because of his knowledge of MINI Coopers. They performed an hour of diagnostics and found absolutely no issues with my car. They’ve just gained a new customer for any of my future repair needs!

Ben was incredibly helpful and great to work with. I called and needed a same day appointment, and they were able to squeeze me in and have my car done in just a couple of hours. He communicated everything with me the whole way and made sure my car was ready for the road trip I was headed out on. Can’t recommend Ben enough!

I am new to the area and hoped Chapel Hill Tire would be my new tire shop based on the reviews and numerous, convenient locations. When I made my first appointment for a tire rotation I was told that if I wanted to wait rather than drop off, an 8:00am appointment would be best as they would be able to get my car in right away. I arrived right at 8, but my car was not brought into the garage until 8:50. Since the waiting room is understandably closed due to COVID, I sat outside for over an hour for a simple tire rotation. In the mean time, numerous other cars were taken in and out of the garage.

This location tried to scam my friend into getting 4 new tires, when only 1 needed to be replaced due to a nail in it. They tried saying they couldn’t get just one because it wouldn’t match the other AWD, so we called the dealership and they said they had the exact tire and could replace just the one…..They are also very misogynistic and mockingly asked if she could reverse into the spot or if they needed to do it for her, a 24 year old woman who’s been driving for 8 years.Take your business elsewhere.

I went to Chapel Hill Tire for my inspection, as I do every year, but this year I went to the Carrboro location rather than the one I have gone to for years in Cole Park. My appointment was for 1PM and I arrived a little behind schedule at 1:07PM because there are two locations within a 5 mile radius and I went to the wrong one. It happens often, they understood. I was told that they would call when my car was ready, so I gave them my key and registration and walked over to the park where the farmers market is held expecting to wait a short time and walk back. Boy, was I wrong. I didnt even receive the text that someone was looking at my car until 2:08PM. And then I heard nothing more. I waited at the park until 2:30PM and then walked back over to the shop and let the front desk associate know that I was there. He told me he would get me when my car was ready. Meanwhile, I had already spotted my car across the parking lot, just sitting in a space with no one near it. I then gave them a generous amount of time and didnt bother them until 3:15PM when I was finally fed up. I went into the store and asked if anyone had even done the inspection yet because, otherwise, I was just going to leave. Immediately, the front desk associate pops his head into the other room, grabs my key, and gets me set up to pay. There was zero hesitation. This says to me that my vehicle had BEEN ready, most likely for SOME TIME. I have never had such terrible service at a CHT.In addition to the terrible service, the front desk associate could neither wear his mask correctly or at all times. Every time I stepped into the building he was putting his mask back on, often incorrectly.Truly, would NEVER recommend this location to anyone.

We used their pickup/dropoff option for our annual car inspection. They were so easy to schedule with, arrived when they said they would, and dropped off our car once it was finished. Our car passed inspection without any issues, which gave me a lot of confidence that they are honest & dont try to milk people for little fixes that dont need to be done. Well absolutely use them again.

Juan took great care of me from start to finish. He was able to get a new set of tires installed on short notice and he price-matched with no questions asked. I do wish the inside waiting room was open, but I understand and appreciate their caution during the pandemic. I absolutely intend to return and I recommend them.

I have gone to Chapel Hill Tire for regular car maintenance (tires, oil change, etc) for a few years with no issues. However, I recently needed new front wheel bearings and I was quoted $1500 at CHT. That seemed rather high, so I made some calls to other places in the area. Ended up getting it done for $500 at F&F right down the street. Moreover, at F&F they noticed I had worn-down rear brake pads, even though CHT allegedly checked my brakes two separate times. I dont expect to be using CHT again anytime soon

My wife and I went to Chapel Hill tire previously to get our brakes checked. All and all the experience was good and we decided to go back to get our tires done as well. During our second visit, though the tires were changed, they lost our hub cap during a test drive. They told us they had lost it, but would get us a new one free of charge. We did not hear back from them for 3 days post appointment, we called them and then they asked for us to take a picture of the hubcap so they could order it. 3 more days pass and we call back again and they say they are working on it and will get back to us before days end. We did not receive a call or follow up. Tired of driving without a hubcap, we canvassed Carrboro, found the hubcap they lost and reattached it ourselves. Also one of the other hubcaps started coming off, so we reattached that one as well. Main issue was getting the run around on where our hubcap was and when we would get a new one.

I went for an oil change and then they called and mentioned the car needed a few more things. Assuming the car needed those things, I said yes...When I went to pick up the car the bill was $500. I know I should ask how much was the additional services, but I felt preyed on (I dont know much about cars).Anyway, the service was good and fast. I would recommend but just for what your car needs, dont say yes on the phone. 😔

Made an appointment for the very next day after I called, even though I didnt really need to get my truck serviced that soon which was great. When I arrived though, they had no idea why I was there and what car I had and I had to reexplain EVERYTHING again to the guy I made the appointment with the day before. I got an amazing deal on what I needed done, and it got done rather quickly despite not having my appointment saved. Other than the initial confusion and unprofessional appointment saving skills, I was very happy with my experience. The mechanic responsible for my service also spoke to me directly and got my questions answered promptly and professionally.This facility came highly recommended by my family and I will return again! I just needed my tires replaced, and they inspected the car too and notified me that there were other things that needed to be fixed that were missed by my recent NYS inspection. The car has just under 150,000 miles on it and its running the best it has in years!

I took my car to have a tire plugged that had a nail in it. The nail is in the tread and easily fixable. I was told that it could not be fixed and since my car is AWD, that I’d need 4 new tires costing over $1,000. I had my boyfriend call the shop back to ask why it couldn’t be fixed as he works for EMS and is in charge of the mechanics of ambulances. They told him the nail was in the sidewalk and he called them out on that because the photo clearly shows it’s not. They then changed their story and said my tires are bald, they are not. The tires have about 40,000 miles on them and have at least another years life as I don’t drive too much. I had 2 other mechanics look at the tire in order to prove that I wasn’t wrong and both state it is fixable. It’s bad business to try and force someone to spend a great deal of money when it is not necessary. If they’d of just plugged the tire, I would have came back for new tires once it was necessary. But they lost my business forever. Just be careful of what people tell you and get second opinions.

I always have a good experiences at Chapel Hill Tires Carrboro location. They are always on time with my appointments, and for general car maintenance like oil changes and inspections, I am always in and out in about an hour. Pricing is more than fair unlike some other places in town where I have been taken advantage of. Even with walk-in service they are prompt, I will continue returning to them!

I have been going to CHTire Carrboro since my 2005 Prius was new and I am convinced that it continues to drive beautifully because of the service they have always provided: they are professional, knowledgeable, reliable,efficient, and very caring and courteous! I wouldnt go anywhere else!

Great service! I did not have an appointment. I called them this morning, they just told to bring car in. I was in and out in less than an hour. Considering that they were very busy and packed. Nice thing about this location also that in carrboro you could walk anywhere. There are dozens of restaurants in less than 10 min walking radius, so if you do not want to wait there, you can explore one of these restaurants that you always wanted to go, but finding parking was a challenge. FYI: there is a waiting area with refreshments and TV, probably wifi as well. I also got a coupon in yelp $60 service for $30, so it was also a great deal!

Since I work night shifts at the hospital, I love being able to have my car picked up and worked on while I sleep.

This was my first time at Chapel Hill tire. I arrived 845am for my 9am appointment. I received a text at 1030am saying my vehicle was just then being serviced (90 mins after my appointment time). I went inside to check on the status at 1045am and was told it was actually done. Go outside and can’t find my car - turns out it’s not done and I then wait for another 15 minutes. 2 hours for an oil change, especially one I made an appointment for, and no other service is just too long for me. Everyone was nice (though no one ever acknowledged the long wait) but I will likely go somewhere else next time to hopefully receive more efficient service.

Friendly and speedy service! I brought my car in for a last minute battery replacement and they were able to accommodate me. Ill definitely revisit for future inspections etc.

I had an emergency with a flat tire while running errands in Carrboro yesterday and was left without many options! I was able price a new tire with Enrique over the phone and have my car towed to CH Tire, where they were thankfully able and willing to squeeze me in and install the new tire in just over an hour! They will damage your car, not fix it. They pulled out and tore off my passenger car leather seat when replacing camshaft sensor! Then, apparently they couldn’t fix the seat and waited until closing to rush me to come pick up my car before. I’m pretty sure they did it since no one else had my car. I return the next morning to show them the problem. First, the mechanic, when called out, seemed to acknowledge the issue and said they couldn’t GLUE it though. He went back inside and returns only to tell me now that they didn’t tear my seat. This shop is very unprofessional and expensive for no reason. Will never return here again for sure!

We got the pickup & delivery service for a state inspection, and as a mom of two small kids, I appreciate this service more than you know. Took a day and I was home without having to wrangle car seats or deal with a loaner car. Thank you for quick & communicative service!

I have been a Chapel Hill Tires of Carrboro customer for over 10 years and have never once been disappointed. They are honest, dependable, capable and efficient. Their customer service is as good as I have experienced anywhere and especially during this time of Covid-19 they have taken all precautions for the safety of their staff & customers. These guys are pros - online appointment requests, text updates during service (with photos!), super quick turnarounds, reasonable prices, friendly staff, and unbeatable work quality. We‘re grateful they’re in our backyard, but we wouldn’t go anywhere else!Also impressed with their safety precautions during COVID - big plexiglass screens and everyone wearing masks. 1/20/2021 UPDATE:I am writing an update from my previous review where I gave CHT 5 stars for a comprehensive test, oil change and spare tire change to 1 star because of the ridiculous amount it cost for a few issues. I called in and explained what I needed changed or checked. I wanted to replace the cabin filter, adjust the low beam lights (it was positioned too low), look at my water pump and to assess the heat because it would blow out hot air then cool air. Moving forward I would encourage before you drop off your car to ask for a quote. They adjusted the headlight, we found the water pump had to be replaced so they did not touch that. They added coolant and connected a hose to the reservoir and let the car run for an hour. The cost of my service was nearly $300! The total was $292.30. You can even argue the first time I came to them, the service I need was more intense than now. I talked with someone who was able to bring it down to $262.30 but I honestly still dont understand how that payment equates to the work done. Its overpriced and I would encourage you to please check out a local trusted mechanic who is not money hungry. I will not be utilizing this business again.11/23/2020This is my first time going to Chapel Hill Tire at Carrboro. I purchased a 2008 Camry and I needed a full comprehensive test, oil change, and a spare tire change. Benjamin and his team took great care of me. They communicated with me very well and if I wasn’t able to answer my phone, they left a detailed message of any updates. I found prices are very affordable compared to the other options in the Chapel Hill/Carrboro area. I really appreciate them for their work, and communication. I would also like to add that all staff members were wearing face coverings and the front desk has a plexiglass separating the employees from the clients. I think that the customer service here is so so great!! I felt like I was truly valued as a customer. They were so helpful and informative. They make the whole process easy. They give detailed estimates and ever offer shuttle service if you dont want to wait for your repairs. The oil change was only $20 because I showed them a 20 off coupon from their website for new customers. And they did a whole big inspection for free while doing the oil change. They even had pictures of any concerns that they noticed needed work. Which was a surprise and awesome to actually see problems I didnt know I had. I came back to get work done and that process was great too. I highly recommend chapel Hill tire for all vehicle needs.

Awesome! Needed an inspection, tire check and wiper blades. Dropped by without an appointment, they told me they could work it in that day, they offered to give me a ride while I left my car there. Got the car done before lunchtime and it was only a little over $50 for everything! Good price, excellent service, I am sold!

Good and not so good:I called 2 days before the actual appointment and got an appointment for car inspection at noon the next day. However, when I showed up, there apparently was no notification in CH Tires system of my appointment. However, the associate was very accommodating, with my perfect willingness, to come in the next day at 7:30 and therefore I could get my car inspected quickly first thing in the morning.At that appointment, the car was inspected quickly. When I got in the car afterward, the glove compartment was open and the packet where I keep the registration card and insurance information was on the passenger seat, so I assumed the technician had been checking the cars registration. However, when I got home, I could not find the registration card anywhere in the car. Where did it go? Also, why didnt I get an itemized car inspection list like I normally do? I texted CH Tire with the registration question, but did not hear back. OK, that was probably an automatic text number. I may actually call CH Tire about this, but since I dont drive this car that often, I will wait for the new registration in the mail.Overall, although Ive had a good impression of CH Tire in the past, I cant help but have some doubts now.

UPDATE: The store manager, Dalton, called me after seeing my review. He made it very clear that the lack of masks and recommendation of unnecessary repairs was unacceptable for his store. He said he spoke to the employees to make this clear. Dalton also sincerely apologized and offered to help in any way. I appreciate him taking the time to call me and understand what happened. I hope that these issues will be fixed moving forward.I will not be bringing my vehicle back to CH Tire in Carrboro. I brought my car there twice and I do not think the mechanics are honest.I brought my car there in January to have my tires replaced. They recommended many other fixes, including replacing the air filter and new brake pads. They were very insistent that the brake pads were less than 1mm and it was urgent that I replace them. It was said to me more than 3 times. I decided to wait until my dad came to visit the next month and have him replace them. In the meantime I personally replaced my air filter (they did not know I did this). When I helped my dad replace the brake pads, we both noticed that they were not as worn as CH Tire made it seem. There was much more than 1mm left.Today, I brought my car in to have a safety inspection done. They again recommended an air filter replacement, which would have been around $70. This is ridiculous for an air filter replacement (it cost $26 for the part and less than 10 minutes of work for me to do it). Not only that, but my air filter has less than 4,000 miles on it and does not need to be replaced. I asked to speak to the mechanic. He came out and stood about 2 feet away from me without a mask. I asked why the air filter needs to be replaced and he asked which car was mine. I pointed it out, and he said “oh that’s a mistake, it doesn’t need to be replaced”. Not only that, but he said it was a universal air filter box, which is not true. The situation seemed suspicious to me and I felt like they assumed I knew nothing and could recommend expensive, unnecessary procedures.I will say that the front desk on both visits was extremely kind and helpful. However, with the unecessary recommendations I would not trust my vehicle here.

I love going to Chapel Hill Tires because I trust them with my car. They’re always kind, courteous, professional, and not pushy salesmen. I’ve been going to them since 2015. I will keep going to them, and I’ve referred all my family and friends.

I tried out Chapel Hill Tire for the first time for a 60,000 mile maintenance and because my car was sounding sluggish when it was idle. While I thought the service was great when I first received the car, this quickly changed as I started driving. The cost was $1100+. The sluggishness is definitely still present. On top of that, the AC somehow isn’t getting enough air and is struggling to blow. Also, there are major vibrations that make the entire car shake. This was a terrible mistake.

State Inspection completed. Fast and very thorough keeping in touch as service questions arose.

Everybody was very friendly. I would highly recommend going here. I definitely will be back !

Had two tires replaced due to a bad/flat tire. The spare was dangling from its attachment beneath the vehicle and not connected. I also wanted the tire that wasnt bad/flat put in as the spare because the spare was very old. Got the old spare instead of a newer tire.
