When I first received my vehicle (a van), I saw that the tires were worn out and I was not going to jeopardize my family on such a long trip with worn out tires. I immediately went back to the counter and explained my situation, and the attendant quickly found a replacement in Harlingen. It was a brand new Toyota Sienna with 8,077 miles, and it was a joy to drive such a wonderful vehicle on our trip. It was economical, spacious, comfortable, and powerful on the road.

Everything went extremely well! The service was excellent, fast, and friendly! We appreciated the wonderful upgrade--the car was perfect! We also appreciated being able to rent the vehicle in Brownsville and return it in Houston. Thank you! We highly recommend Avis!

On a recent business trip, I had reserved an AVIS rental car. On the night before we were ready to leave for Brownsville, I got a call saying that they had oversold and had no cars available. At that point there were no other cars available with any other rental companies in Brownsville, and my four colleagues and I were forced to use taxis and Ubers at much greater expense. But, the icing on the cake was that they charged me a $50 cancellation fee the next day for not picking up the rental that they cancelled!!! The charge was eventually reversed, but it took a fair amount of time and frustration navigating their automated calling system to find someone who could do that. Not impressed, AVIS.

It was great all around the gentlemen who helped me at the desk was amazing!! I cannot thank him enough, our flight was delayed and I called to let him know. He said he would wait for me and i appreciate that VERY much it was raining and the weather was so bad. Had he not waited for me, Im not sure what i would have done. He was very nice, greeted me with biggest warmest smile and made me feel like it was not an inconvenience at all having to wait... I appreciate the Customer Service and him explaining the process to me. I also appreciate the vehicle I was provided with it even had 4x4!!!! With the terrible weather it was nice to know it had 4x4 in case I needed it .... I told the young man I am in the automobile industry and have driven lots of makes and models but never a Jeep Compass ..i really enjoyed driving it that Im considering buying one now!!!! i will definitely recommend AVIS to everyone I know!!! Thank you once again!

DO NOT RENT FROM THIS PLACE! Rented an Large SUV approximately a month ago for vacation. Needed a large vehicle as we had 7 people in our group. We are flying in tomorrow and were to get the car at the airport. Just received a call from Avis (less than 24 hrs before getting the car) telling me that they did not have a car for me as they overbooked that particular vehicle. I asked if they could re-book into other vehicles and was told I had to do it through the website. I also was told that they didnt know if they would have any cars coming back for me to rent. 2 hours on the phone and no help. At least I received a refund, thanks a lot AVIS for leaving me in a huge bind. Only reason you received one star was for refunding my money. Called Enterprise right after hanging up, and they were more than helpful!

We got the Brownville airport and they were closed, we called customer service and they said they couldnt help us. We ended up taking a cab for $70. The next morning we went to pick our car and no one was at the counter, we had to wait almost 45 minutes for someone to show up. We were lucky we called before we went we meet another couple in the same situation who lost their rental.

Made our reservation 1 month before trip. We were told less than 24 hours before our flight they would not have a car due to shortages. Called back as our plane was about to pull away from the gate to let us know a car was available. Understand theres a car shortage but communication was very late with no alternatives provided

Was originally overcharged for fuel but that was fixed. Small airport. Returning before the counter opened was easy, just be sure to write down mileage before going to counter to drop your keys.

The level of service at time of pickup and drop-off was very poor. The rental car was not very clean and interior was extremely worn and had an odor. I had to purchase a car freshener.

I prepaid for my car, when I arrived at the airport I was told I didnt have a car, I was promised a car for the next day which I got at noon. (It cost me over $80.00 for Uber) When I arrived back that lady that checked me in wanted to charge me an extra day because I was 10 minutes over my one hour, as it was she charged me an extra almost $80.00 over what I was supposed to pay and told me I had to take it up with corporate. As a travel agent of many years and having used Avis myself and booked Clients with cars through Avis, I am really disturbed that the service and quality has gone so far down. I will be speaking with Amex about the charges on my card and will not be using Avis in the future for myself or my clients.

Our flights were unexpectedly changed so we arrived at Brownsville, TX 4 hours later than expected. When I approached the Avis desk I was informed that my car had been rented out to someone else. Keep in mind that I had a prior reservation that was already paid for thru Expedia. The person at the desk informed me that their boss said they can rent out the car to someone else if it one hour past the reservation time.The desk worker told me that I should have called to inform them of our travel plans being changed. There was nothing on the email that I received stating I needed to inform them of a different arrival time nor was there a phone number listed for the Brownsville location.I called the manager who was not in the office. I then called again on Monday and he was not available again. I left my name, number and information to have a call returned to me. I never received a call back from the manager.I would not suggest using Avis and definitely not the Brownsville, TX airport Avis location. Poor service and very poor attitude by the desk worker.The only reason I am giving it a one star review is because I cant give a negative star review.

I prepaid for my rental, but my flight was delayed in to Brownsville. The office was closed, so I had to pick up the next day. But in order to not forfeit my pre-payment, I had to modify my rental which resulted in ANOTHER $130. After numerous calls to customer service, no viable solution was even recommended or attempted. Though the local office was extremely cooperative, the overall experience was displeasing. Bad business practices...

The agent that I returned the car to was not friendly. Also, after paying over $300 for the car for the week, after, I leave on my flight back home, I got another charge on my card for $175. I have received no email or information as to why I had to pay this amount. I left the car full of gas and in perfect condition. Avis need to send an explanation of additional charges before just charging your credit card. The agent made it seem as though I did not have any additional charges.

And no problems with the car the only issue I have with Avis is at the Brownsville airport in Texas their hours are not that good luck getting a car if you have a late flight coming in after 6:00 they are closed.

Me and my wife had to take my mother in law to San Antonio for a very urgent surgery. We had checked with Budget and thier requirements were a little to much. We called Enterprise and they had nothing available until next day. We had to leave in the dawn. Our third call was Avis and when the representative answered she immediately answered every question and concern. It was almost closing time and she assured us she would wait for us. It was a very simple and pleasant experience.

I waited an hour for a vehicle. They’ve got like two people working there- one manning the counter, the other cleaning and sanitizing cars. Really poor service. I hope to never rent from this location again. I believe the real company is Valley Rentals Inc. Don’t waste your time and money or you’ll be stuck at the airport waiting for a ride.

Overall I would have rated the experience a 10 however I made a reservation and traveled 2 1/2 hours by public transportation to pick up the rental car. When I arrived I was told there were no cars available. I received no email, call or text message notifying me of this information. I was extremely upset because I was on my honeymoon and had no options. Then the person working there was able to locate a car for us to rent. The car was great and the rest of the experience was great. Very stressful in the beginning however. Very poor communication with customers.

Rental deposit holds used to be 100 without credit card or no deposit hold with a return flight ticket now deposit holds are 250$ regardless if you dont have a credit card or a return flight.Also this last experience with my rental was horrible the car was filthy it hadnt been cleaned inside or outside also car had alignment/steering issues and swayed bad the windows was so dirty I could barely see out windows windshield or any mirrors!

The vehicle I picked up was dirty, dust around a/c vents, exterior was also very dusty too, windows were dirty. I returned and was granted another vehicle, they told me it just detailed. It was just as bad as the first one. Windows had dried up water streaks and full of dust.

Even though I had a reservation, the lady at the counter said she had no car for me, despite the fact that she had serveral keys of cars and said that she was waiting for those to be picked up. I asked her why them and not me.. she replied that they did the reservation first. The night before I supposedly got the confirmation for the car, I also paid for my hotel and airplane tkts .. but upon arrival had no way to get to them. It was extremely stressful. Finally after waiting for a long time. Someone retuxxced a pickup truck and since i was staring at the woman, she told me that I could have that one but i needed to wait for it to be service .. later she decided to give me a 2 door car .. supposed to be an upgrade .. like she was doing me a favor .. even though she said it was uncomfortable because it was a two door .. (upgrade). My family and I (4) were humiliated, mistreated and dismissed. I will never again rent a car on AVIS.

When I booked the rental we paid for a large SUV. The night before our reservation I was contacted saying they didnt have any SUVs available. The amount of luggage and travelers we had necessitated a large SUV (hence I booked a large vehicle). With less than 24 hours notice I had no other options other than to accept what ever vehicle was available. when we arrived at the airport we were given a mini van. When I asked the clerk if wed be given a refund for the price difference she stated the mini van was nicer than a normal mini van and it had as much room as the large suv we booked. That was totally incorrect. We had to pile luggage and strollers on top of people which made our 40 minute drive to our condo unpleasant to say the least. Our group rented 3 separate vehicles with Avis and each reservation was messed up in one way or another. Horrible experience all around.

We have been renting from Avis for the past ten years. Until this year we used their satellite office in the Isla Grande hotel on South Padre Island. We used their weekend rate. We were informed by Delphina, the manager (who has become a good friend of ours) that we could no longer rent from the island. We had to go to the airport this winter to pick it up and return it. While this has been less convenient, we cannot fault Delphina in any way at all. She is polite and patient and a pleasure to deal with.

Awful. Got a lyft to the airport to get a car. I prepaid for the car. DONT EVER DO THAT!!! SPEND THE EXTRA DOLLARS. I get to the airport and use my debit card so they NEED to do a credit check. Mind you Im renting not buying and have insurance. They refuse to rent me the car. The attendant keeps arguing with me and repeating the same thing over and over again.I have to take a lyft back home. So $25 each way for that and $110 on hold while they do an investigation before they can refund my money.AVIS apparently doesnt operate these places because each location can create their own policies and AVIS couldnt tell me which policies were at which locations.GO ANYWHERE ELSE.

I have used Avis for years and have never had an experience like this location. Firstly, they berate you if you dont show up on time and then they threaten to rent your car to someone else (even though it was a prepay!). Secondly, they charged me for $16 in gas even though I filled up less than a mile from the airport. Crooks, plain and simple.

What can I say about a car rental station at a small airport at a small south Texas City. (Harlingen), Wow the best of the best of any brand of rental car you will ever find and experience. They go out of their way to make sure the rental experience perfect the car is perfect and if it is anything less they fix it without question. No price is to much for this level of compentence care and professionalism.

Rented car twice already. First time lady was not so knowlegeable. Second time very friendly and helpful staff. Forgot a personal item in a vehicle and they didnt keep it or steal it so who ever cleans their vehicles has integrity cause I was able to pick it up after 2 weeks that we noticed it was missing. The only rental place at this location who does not base on credit history. Thank you Avis!!

Be careful !!! They will charge you for previous damages hours after returning. I’m 100% positive they charged me more than quoted for damages caused prior to my renting and simply because one attended working on so many cars missed it. . !!!!!

After getting bck home Avis charge me 17.25 for 3galloms of gas which by the way we had already filled up the car!!!😡 So I called and the lady said to that I had to provide proof wow she shouldve asked me when I turn in the car not two days later!!! Never again will I rent from them !!!!!!!
