Honestly, these folks have been the best landlords. Maintenance is quick and easy to get in touch with. Housekeeping is super kind. Tiffany is also awesome and super helpful.The apartments are cute as can be and well taken care of. The price range (especially for a one bedroom) is phenomenal compared to other apartments in Boone, and theyre good apartments too!Super happy that I was a Winkler tenant while at App. :)

From beginning to end this rental experience was frustrating. My roommates and I were put into an apartment we did not apply to despite applying early with our top 4 choices.Our particular unit had no windows and a “skylight” in the living room. Its a porthole in the ceiling. Living in this conrete box, especially during covid, was depressing as it had no natural light. Additionally, the combination of sensitive smoke detectors and no windows meant fire alarms, and thus evacuations, occured weekly if not multiple times a week at all hours.Maintenance is a mess and takes days to respond and sometimes weeks-months to actually fix the problems. At one point our washing machine broke. It took 6 days for someone to come look at it and when they did, they reported us for a “strange smell” in our unit… the smell was caused by the stagnant water in our machine, clearly.At another point in the year I had a $500 package stolen from my doorstep. I lived in a locked building so it had to be someone who lived there as well. When I reported it to Winkler they informed me that the cameras in our building do not work and they offered no further assistance.Staff gets back to you when/if they feel like it. I understand the Winkler organizing has a stronghold on student housing in Boone, but that doesn’t mean they can take advantage of students or their parents. Will not be renting here again.

I rented for over a year with Winkler at Winkler Adams. I really enjoyed my time at the apartment and it was well maintained. For a student it is a perfect location and even though it is a bit pricey compared to others apartment further out of town, the location, utilities included, and parking next to campus was great for student life. Plus a great view of Howards Knob!

I love Winkler! Prior to leasing from Winkler I had never lived in an apartment before. The staff is always friendly and accommodating, especially Tiffany. She has helped me on numerous occasions and has aways done her best to work things out for my best interest! She gives quick and helpful responses when you reach out to her.Maintenance service requests are always dealt with in a timely manner as well as going above and beyond to come out on the weekends when our sink was broken.I have never had any issues with Winkler or the staff! Our apartment is very nice and the price is unmatched. Our apartment has always been clean and well taken care of! I have enjoyed every minute of leasing from Winkler!

I can NOT say enough about the amazing experience we´ve had with the Winkler Organization. From the start they were helpful and accommodating. Moving your eldest into their own apartment (our daughter has a studio) 3 1/2 hours from home can be a daunting experience, but the leasing agents are incredibly helpful and responsive (shout out to Tiffany and Amanda). Just this last weekend our daughter returned to Boone after a weekend at home in Raleigh and realized she had left her apartment keys behind. It was 7:45 on a Sunday night! One phone call and 15 minutes later there was a Winkler Rep at her building who made sure she got inside and a spare key was waiting for her in the Winkler office the next morning.THATś amazing customer service. They just seem to understand that they are taking care of many ¨kids¨ who are first time renters as well as their parents who are more than just a bit nervous about that. I appreciate the extra mile theyŕe always willing to go!

Winkler deserves all the stars it can get! The people writing negative reviews have never had to deal with a non-college apartment. I lived in Winkler Square for 3 years in 2 separate apartments and I can tell you that those 3 years were the best 3 of my time in Boone! The building was only 1 year old when I moved in but did have its problems. The few times I did have problems, Winkler had somebody fixing them within 12 hours. (Try that in an apartment in Raleigh at triple the price and triple the tenants and see how fast they come.) Tiffany and Molly are running a tight ship and it is absolutely working for them. I cannot recommend Winkler enough and when compared to other companies in Boone, you would be crazy not to talk to Winkler about your next residence.

I dont remember his name, but I think he was bald, and when we needed our door fixed and refrigerator fixed, he went out of his way to make sure that everything was tip top and was a great person to chat with as well! I have had an amazing experience with Winkler. I have lived at two of their properties and their customer service has never disappointed. Within the first week of moving into my apartment at East Village two years ago, a tenant upstairs set off the fire alarm and sprinklers. I was upset and disheartened at having to move out of my first apartment so soon but Winkler did an amazing job getting all of the tenants settled into a hotel and made sure they could do whatever they could to help us through the remodeling period after the flooding.Every maintenance request I have ever made was taken care of within a couple of days, housekeeping has always been polite and respectful, and any phone correspondence I have had with Winkler has been prompt, organized, and helpful. Currently, I have been working through a lease transfer because I am moving away from Boone and Tiffany has been super helpful during this stressful time. I would highly recommend Winkler!

This being my first year off campus, Winkler has made it a great experience so far. I love the location of their apartments as I am transferring to another next year in just as great of a location as the one I am in now. Tiffany, and the ladies in the office have been wonderful. Judah, the head of maintenance has also been great. Though no land lord/tenant relationship is perfect, the folks at Winkler have always been responsive to my questions and special requests, and they clearly have had my daughters best interest at heart.I have had many dealings with landlords and management companies over my adult life, so I can tell you with out a doubt, the people at Winkler are by far the best Ive come across.As my daughter works hard to finish her check-out cleaning per Winklers specifications (which to be honest are rather extensive, but clearly laid out in their check-out packet), I can tell you that I highly recommend their properties (especially the newer properties) and feel more than confident that they will provide you and your child with a great experience.

If I could give Winkler more than 5 stars I would! Winkler has been great to me and my roommates and we have really enjoyed living with them!! Ive lived here since the apartment complex was first built (Winkler Square) and Ive enjoyed my time here. Although there have been minor issues since living here for three years, Winkler has been great at fixing these things within a timely manner, making the customer service great. The staff is very friendly and they know me by name and I would be more than happy to rent from Winkler again in the future. Im sad to be leaving, but happy to be graduating.

My roommate and I applied to four locations and payed the application fee. They said they would call us back to see what they could do and a week later no one called. I understand that BCHR and Winkler are the only companies that make you pay an application fee that they will not refund you for if they dont find a place for you.They took our money and we wont be able to get it back.Stay away from this company they will not refund you the application feeI raised my review from a 1 star to 2 because Tiffany called me to see what was going on. I do believe that they really care about customer service but they told us that they would call us back because none of our options were available. We never received a call and Tiffanys response was you cant expect us to call everyone when they said they would call us back!

Poor communication skills. Miss Winkler seemed to lack transparency during the application process. Getting in touch with her for basic questions was a battle, will only communicate at the last possible minute to avoid a lawsuit. No customer service seems to exist with this company.Scam artists.

I am on my fourth year living in a Winkler property. After graduating from undergrad, I still chose to live in Winkler property again for graduate school. Winkler offers the best property locations and some of the best perks including discounts with local restaurants. I recommend living in a Winkler property to anyone, but especially to college students looking for prime living arrangements in Boone!

Super rude management. I called recently because I was interested in one of the properties. The lady on the phone was rude as hell about the pet policy. Based off of the other reviews I don’t even know why I considered this place. If I could give it 0 stars I would.

We are very happy with our experience with Winkler. We recently had the good fortune of working with Tiffany Leonard during a less than easy lease transfer for my son. Tiffany is an exceptional employee and human being. She facilitated our lease transfer process and made what could have been a horrible experience, into a much better situation.Both my husband, our son, and myself, will be eternally grateful for crossing paths with Tiffany. You are very lucky, indeed, to have her under your employment!We also had a flood issue early on in the lease that we were able to get resolved and after talking to the office and maintenance they credited each lease holder for their inconvenience!!I realize that these days people are quick to complain, and rarely give recognition to the caring, and selfless employees out there. I wanted to make a point of letting you know how much she helped our family.

Scammed us out of our deposit and when they got caught, Tiffany had 10 excuses. Charged us damage on apartment. tiffany would not provide documentation. When we provided pics, they all of a sudden changed thier tune. MAKE SURE YOU TAKE PICS OF APARTMENT. They will scam you when you move out.

My son stayed in a winkler property for 3 years. they will do anything to extract money out of you. charged us 225 dollars just to move across the hall. when we moved out, they scammed us out of our securty deposit for alleged damage to a10 year old appliance and fan. both needed to be replaced anyways. Tiffany was difficult to deal with over 3 years. if you rent from them, be prepared to get ripped off. they will do anything to make an extra dime from you.

I originally posted a very angry review; however, I am very pleased with the customer service I have experienced since posting my review. While the organization may be a little hard to communicate with, if you stay persistent and get the right person. All is well. Going into the office face-to-face also works to get your message across.

As an out of state student, I had one day to come to Boone and find an apartment. I decided to rent from The Winkler Organization because they were accommodating and helpful from the start. I have been with them for my entire tenure of graduate school, and am only moving because I am graduating. For two years, I have never had any issues (major or minor) regarding the business practices or maintenance of my lease and apartment. Anytime my roommates or I put in a work order for something, it is addressed almost immediately. The grounds around my apartment are always well-maintianted and there is ample parking for tenants and their guests.

Rude and disrespectful management. They understand that their customers are college kids and will try to squeeze every penny they can out of you. Apartment locations are nice, but if you are the type of person who will need to work with management (good ord bad) avoid Winkler at all costs.

My son has lived in 494 The Lofts for going on three years. He had an efficiency the first year and moved to a two bedroom last year. I believe this is the very best location to be had. He only has a short walk to campus and has time to swing by his apartment between classes for a sandwich or whatever. The bedrooms are small but easy to arrange with a loft bed or something of that sort.We have formed a great relationship with the management team. They have been quick to answer requests for simple maintenance. My son was shocked that he called and they were there within 10 minutes. The leasing coordinator, Tiffany, has been an answer to prayer. She is perky and responds to calls and emails very quickly and always has the answers. I hate when someone calls back and then has to check with someone else, etc. in short, theyve never passed the buck with me and Im a stickler for customer service and timeliness. Granted, I saw a review that was somewhat negative about a maintenance issue but it made me wonder (as a mom of two) if the student followed proper protocol to report the issue. They have an emergency number on their voice mail at the office so I cant imagine it taking so long. Judah is a great contact person and he will make sure its done in a timely manner. Judah came during the night one time when the fire alarm was going off.I checked other places like The Cottages and they were nice but didnt like the idea of so many room mates in one place and the LONG drive to campus. Driving=time and in college thats something that serious students dont have in excess. ****The first year he parked in a town lot but we found parking (for a fee) behind the Business across the street to be a better location.All in all a good experience!!! Call Tiffany in the leasing office if you want great customer service and a great place to live. I dont think you will be disappointed.

Worst rental company Ive ever dealt with. They will do anything they can to get money out of you. They claim to have a cleaning service every month but that rarely happened. They also have a lot of hidden policies they dont inform you about. I called to ask if I could put a lock on my bedroom door and they just assumed I was having conflict with my roommates and said that they would send someone over to speak to my roommates unless I put in writing that I didnt want that to happen. Thats ridiculous, I am in college not elementary school. Please dont give them your money.

The worst rental company in Boone.1. The customer service is lacking. They commonly hang up on you if you call and are not helpful if you have issues.2. The apartment complex is very poorly constructed (Winkler Square). You can very clearly hear everything your neighbors are doing, including their puppy screaming all day, fights between couples, rage quits on video games, or the drunk girl coming in at 2 am on a Thursday.3. While this is no pet property, majority people have puppies. Not dogs, but actually 3 mo to 9 mo old puppies that cry all day and night. I have come home to a puddle of dog pee in the community hallway. I can understand having an emotional support animal, I have one myself, but you have to clean up and take care of it.4. They put a Kava bar underneath Winkler Square. It makes it very loud as they have bands play Thursday-Saturday. The people who frequent the establishment are loud, dirty, and smoke right under the apartment windows (despite signage saying dont). Its very common for the parking lot to be covered in cigarette buds and empty cups. They also will stay well past midnight and skate board or party in the parking lot. The bar makes a lot of noise but the lease pretty much says screw your sleep schedule, we want money as you cannot complain about noise from other tenants including businesses.5. They will have maintenance sent out for nothing with little notice. Maids come in even if you request they do not. This rental company is very intrusive and this place felt like a dorm not a home.6. USPS refuses to deliver to these apartments. Winkler was no help. Its because the hallway has a code to enter and the USPS does not have the code so cannot deliver large packages. I had to get a ASU box to get my packages. It would be ok if the code actually offered protection, but everyone gives their friends/boyfriends/family/delivery drivers the code so you commonly find random people in the halls looking for certain apartments.Absolutely terrible rental company. It is the most expensive rental company in town, yet it is by far the worst. I hope you never have the misfortune of renting from them.

I didnt rent from the place; however, I was sharked into paying for a place. When I asked to view the apartment, I was told that I needed to pay an application fee up front. Not only that, all of my roommates had to latch on their application fees too. So, after a few days of dealing with the sharked behavior, I ended up putting the $40 application fee. Yet, that wasnt enough, since the leasing agent kept harassing us over and over to pay for it. Not after the last harassing call, we received a voice mail about 45 minutes after that call and they sold the apartments.No warnings of it being sold nor it being updated on their website, since they claimed to had 4 apartments open that morning on it. No warnings about the application fee being non-refundable, exception of the fine print on the application and thats easily overlooked, and the leasing agent was making it out to be that the application fee was some sort of reservation fee.So, I took it to Paypal, got the money back, but they only did it because of the customer being accidentally mislead. So, not only because they were sharking me constantly, harassing my friends and I, and being assholes on the phone, but they cant even realize their own mistakes and blamed us. I give credit of being nice and refunding me of my payment, but thats a total slap in the face to blame your customers, rather than owning up to your mistakes.Ive rented from numerous people before and I never ran into this problem of paying first, seeing later. Not only that, I went to a different company, spoke with them about looking at apartments, and had them drive me around town to view apartments. No fees or anything. So, this isnt a Boone thing or a big city issue, but I suppose you have to look out for shady businesses anywhere, especially in bigger cities.Horrible business practices, horrible customer service, and the previous reviews paint the picture of horrible conditions. I recommend for this company to either get its act together or it needs a cease to exist order placed on it. I thought the scum lords I rented from was very horrible, but when I met this company, I was dead wrong. This company seems to shark customers, especially the college kids. I dont know why it even exists at this point.

Let me tell yall, winkler is a good company to rent from but what makes The Winkler Organization a tier above the rest of the organizations in Boone are the 2 most awesomemest woman Molly and Lyndsey that sit at their office, day in and day out to help solve any issue that you may ever have! Without them, winkler gets maybe a 4/5 stars, but when you dont know what to do, or have issues getting into your portal to pay your bills, dial winkler and immediately press 4, and you will be welcomed by 2 very angelic voices who will try their hardest to fix any issue you may have. 5/5 stars all day. Thanks for everything Winkler.

I have rented from winkler twice in my four years in Boone. I am sad that my time with them is up. The billing and the maintence made renting through them a breeze. As far as staff goes, Tiffany Leonard was amazing. She was very sweet and helpful with anything I needed help with. Honestly Tiffany deserves a gold medal with all she has to put up with ( my situation especially ) and how well she maintains composure and a smile! Maintenance Is also another strong point. I had to call maintenance only a few times but they are always so quick to fix the issues. Thanks winkler for everything!

Winkler has a monopoly on apartments in boone. rented my sons apartment out from under him in December, then charged another 225 admin fee to move next door even though my son was already a tenant! Scott Cook, manager, was rude and disrespectful. Basically told me pay it or find a new place to live . The office person, Molly was just as rude. Refused to give me managers name on several ocassions. If your child goes to App, Avoid Winkler unless you dont mind getting bent over.

Worst rental company I have ever dealt with. Apartment complex didnt even have enough parking for all the residents. Was booted as well while living there and Winkler did nothing to help and made me pay for the ticket. Took months everytime we made a repair request. Very bad experience, stay away.

Have rented with them for 2 years now, love all the staff there and always are so helpful with problems that occur within the property. Compared to Holton Rentals.... these people are saints.

I have no idea why people seem to hate on Winkler. We had a dog, a maintenence man found the dog and said he wouldnt report it so we wouldnt get charged, I called them about fixing my dish washer, got fixed the next day. Called them about fixing my washing machine, fixed the next day. They are very by the book, but it is fair. Always helpful, always prompt. I just dont get why people hate on them.

Be prepared to be jobbed if you rent from Winkler. Never believe that all utilities are included. Theyll charge you extra on heat regardless of whether you use it or not. Theyll get money out of you any way they can. Theyre dishonest and deceitful. Its by far the worst organization Ive ever dealt with.

Don’t bother, they only care about your money.

If you need housing in Boone and youre stuck with a rental agency, hear what I wish I had known three years ago: pick Winkler over BHCR at all costs. That being said, both are far from average on the matter of serving their tenants.

Would not recommend. Know your rights.
