Twice now, I have gone to alternative sources for medications for my pets. Chewy.com for my cats insulin, and Tractorsupplyrx.com for my dogs flea and tick treatment.The insulin was denied by the Vet because it is a change, (Yes, it was almost $60 less money for the same insulin, but branded differently), and the Vet who called me kept stressing, Well, this will be just like starting over, when I explained I could not afford the medication I received from them, as if I was being dismissive of my pets care. I feel fortunate I can afford insulin for the cat at all, many people cannot. Finally it was approved. Also, this vet charged me $75 to apply a diabetic sensor to my cat (which i provided, otherwise it would have been $150), and the cat had it off in under 15 minutes. When I explained what happened, they actually asked me when i could get back in and spend another $75 to have another sensor applied for this cat to pull it off again.Today, the flea/tick/heartworm medication I purchased from tractorsupplyrx.com, which was nearly half as expensive as when i purchased it from the Vet, was denied because my dog is overdue for her wellness exam.So what youre telling me, Blaine Vet, is that you are going to hold my dogs medication for fleas and ticks hostage until you can force me to spend more money with you for a wellness exam, which i had already planned to take her to you for anyway because it was overdue, but I am working 60 hour weeks and have not been able to make it in yet. I bet if I had walked in to buy the medicine from YOU, you wouldnt have denied it though, would you?No thank you, between what happened to Kanoa being sent home without pain medication after having several teeth pulled, (she died two days later), then my cat, now my other dog, Ive learned my last lesson from you. I will find a vet closer to me, and one which hopefully does not deprive my dog of needed medication because you want me to spend more money with you. Very disappointing.

It was easy to get him in. They seemed to really know what they were talking about. They are great with our Oliver. I would definitely recommend them.

We have had a couple dogs that have been seen at Blaine Family Vet over the years. The quality of care and compassion that we have seen there are above and beyond anything we have seen in other Veterinary Hospitals. The Veterinarians that we have seen are knowledgeable and forward thinking to always do best for our dogs. Liz (Vet Tech) has always been helpful in walking us through follow up care, no matter how many questions we have. We recommend them whenever possible!

I have always taken my dog to this vet. He has an emergency injury and they said they have no appointments take him somewhere else. What kind of service is that? I rely on you to be my pet doctor and you tell me sorry to busy. Super terrible customer service. Not even a recommendation on where to go, do you know how hard it is to find a vet in an emergency!Update: Dr. Krista, that is just not true. I called back within an hour an was told it had been filled. I called the next day to beg for an appointment and was told to go somewhere else.So you may want to talk to your staff. I would have appreciated a suggestion on where to go vs. Being told sorry we cant help you. My baby was ill and your clinic left me hanging.

They are great with my dog who was a rescue and is very aggressive. They are willing to work to better his temperament with tips, tricks, and resources.

Dr. krista is on maternity break. I have been going there since the switch from prior owner. I asked to speak to the vet for a week and never got a response. I got calls back form the techs. The techs played games and never gave the phone over to the vet just switched to each other. I have several sick animals that require regular medical treatment with blood work and medicine . They refused to refill my dogs medicine till blood work was done , knowing that to do so could hurt my dog. they have no heart nor compassion . and are down right rude and smug about it . I had several family and work emergencies but received absolutely no compassion just was mocked. Never have i seen such cruel people to care for animals. I😔 will never go back unless she gets new staff

I know my pets will always get the best care possible. Liz Gigler is the one that usually takes care of my pets as she has a special place in her heart for rescue and abused animals. I know she will do everything needed to make sure my pets live a long, healthy life!

We have brought our dogs to Blaine family veterinary for years. Recently one of our dogs was quite ill and the vet took necessary labs, xrays and prescribed appropriate medication. Our dog was feeling much better after a few days. During this time the vet called and checked in with us to see how our dog was doing.Thank you for being so kind, caring and for taking great care of our pets.

Fantastic vet! My pitbull had to get her torn ACL repaired and BFVH was recommended by a trusted friend. SO glad I went there. She was treated so well and the staff and surgeon were amazing and the quote came in exactly what they said it would be. She is on her way to full recovery. I cant say thank you enough! Ps... she may not look happy in this picture but she will be soon!

My experience at Blaine Family Veterinary Hospital exceed all expectations. The staff was welcoming, professional, and very informative.

This past Thursday, the 19th we lost our beloved Peanut to Cardiomyopathy. This has by far been the hardest thing that my husband and I have been through. She was truly our furry baby and losing her has made our home feel so empty. The quietness gets to us as Peanut was a very vocal and shouty kitty. We want to thank Dr.Krista Steffenhagen, Ashley Hofer & Lisa Stulc-Nihart. These 3 woman were amazing as my husband and I sobbed throughout the 3 hours that we stayed with Peanut until her passing. They did everything possible for Peanut to try and stabilize her, make her as comfortable as possible and answer all of my annoying questions to try and understand what was going on. In the end, Peanut couldnt be saved and she passed with her head in my husbands hand and peacefully as her heart slowly stopped. I would HIGHLY recommend this clinic to anyone. The love, support and never ending knowledge that was provided to us was so comforting in such a painful time. They truly care about the animals and owners. Thank you all so much for the compassion you have shown us. We wish you the best and when we have healed enough and decide to add to our family again, we will be bring our next furry baby to you for its care.

Even though it is a little further than several other clinics we could go to, we would never consider going anywhere else, and it is absolutely worth the drive. Yesterday we had to make the hard decision to say goodbye to a member of our family. Despite her never being seen there before, they got us in same day and treated us like family. Everyone was kind, gentle and considerate. We never felt rushed. The room was surprisingly welcoming... soft lighting, clean and warm. They had a blanket laid out so we could be right next to our sweet girl. The price was reasonable. We had used them a month prior to fix a kitten we had saved from barn life. That visit went well and also reasonably priced. We have found our new vet.

*****response to owner*****The problem wasn’t the fees, the problem was that after ALL exams were completed and all tests were done, two different people quoted us $290. Then we came to pick up our dog and the bill was $385. I don’t see that addressed in the response below.I didn’t remember until I read through your comments in our file that you have done this not two, but three different times.Additionally, yes, we were waiting on The results for one. The two that we are not waiting for anything on have still not been sent.The first time they quoted us the wrong price, quoting us a lesser price than what they actually charged after service, we thought it was an honest mistake. Now, the second time, when they were done with tests/evaluating, they quoted us one amount, but when we went to pick up our dog, the bill had grown by over $100, which they explained as a “system error”, that not all tests were in when two different people called us to tell us the price. Being this has now happened two times with very few other visits to this clinic (if any), we are not confident that these are “system errors”, rather normal business practice for this place. We went here for years, but since new ownership we’ve been here only a few times, two of which had these things happen.When I explained that they had done this to us twice and have lost trust and plan to go to a new vet, I asked for our records for all three pets. After multiple requests, I finally received one of the three, but still waiting on two.

Blaine family vet is amazing! Our malamute broke her canine in half and needed to have it extracted. They took such great care of her and were able to get her in extremely fast for the procedure. They clipped her nails while she was under and the whole experience was very smooth.

I have been to this vet hospital twice and happy with the outcome either time. Both times when I have arrived there has only been one person helping people check in and out, while there are other staff at the front desk and in the back not helping anyone. Both times the front desk person has asked the other staff if they were able to help take a patient into a room and the staff would kind of snicker and say they are not able to help, making me feel as if we werent important. Both times there were long waits in the room while waiting for the doctor. The staff seems very unorganized, constantly coming in and out of the rooms, forgetting things or needing to get something else. Dr. Molly is who we worked with and she was wonderful and very knowledgeable. We would love to come back and continue care with her, but the rest of the staff makes me not want to come back. At the end of each visit the staff didnt care to ask about future follow up visits or if I needed help with anything. They were focused on just taking the payment, which again made me feel unwanted there. The first visit I had to ask for help with learning how to give my pet a pill, and I had to ask for the medication too! The second visit they gave me the wrong pet food, and again I had to ask for something after the doctor told me what I would be going home, making me see again how unorganized they were. Both times the visits were about an hour long, and more than half the time I was sitting in the room just waiting. Ive never felt so unwanted at a clinic before, and wish the staff wouldve stepped up to the plate to help the doctor who is amazing!

Paws down, the best vet in the Twin Cities. Our family has brought several animals to Blaine Family and had nothing but amazing care. I wouldn’t take our fur babies anywhere else! When we had to make the difficult choice to put one of our dogs to sleep, Dr. Krista was incredibly compassionate and did everything possible to help comfort us throughout.

There is so much to say about this clinic that I cannot even begin to scratch the surface on how amazing they are. The doctors and staff are committed to continued education and provided the best medicine out there. They listen to the concerns of every client and go above and beyond for every patient. If you are new to the area or simply need a change in the medical care of your pets... I highly recommend trying them out :)

You can find a better clinic than this one. Just to name a FEW problems I had with them...1) They gave me the wrong strength of medication for my dog (could have killed her). 2) My dog was on 3 different heart medications that were costing me approx $100/month from them. I found out I could get the medications from Costco cheaper so I had the vet send the Rx to Costco. Immediately afterwards the clinic told me they would no longer give me prescriptions for a year at a time- they insisted I had to have my dog seen every 6 mos for continued prescription (Im guessing to make up for the money they were now losing to Costco).3) My dog developed a cough and the vet asked me to video my dogs coughing and send it to her email. I did, the vet didnt respond. I called and was told they had received the video via email and the vet would be reminded that I was waiting for her to review the video. The vet never called. I could go on, I have more stories....Please find a better vet and dont use this clinic.

My dog was fighting a nasty infection that required daily visits. Even though she got poked and prodded every day for the last week, she was very excited to get into the car and visit them. That says so much more to me than any words could express. Thank you for taking such good care of her.

He had some health issues when we adopted him, and while we are still working through them, I have been so impressed and thankful for the care he has received. They are super responsive to questions, and when there is an issue or concern they work with me to set up a drop off time so he can be seen as soon as possible. Dr. Steffenhagen and her team provide quality professional veterinary care. Dr. S. demonstrated her surgical skill on my 15 year old diabetic cat, by removing a 2 inch mass from her neck, skirting her jugular vein. I was worried about the anesthesia but she was walking around a few hours after the surgery. The team ran thorough tests before surgery, monitoring her closely during the procedure and after. The technicians provided all the info and support I would need to take care of my cat post surgery. The vet followed up with me and took the time to answer any questions I had. My cat is so much healthier since having the mass removed. I am thankful that the procedure was affordable, so my cat could have the surgery and will probably live much longer. This is a great veterinary facility!

We highly recommend this vet. We live on the east side and took our fur babies to Dr. Krista Steffenhagen at the Forest Lake location....and didnt hesitate to make the drive when they moved to Blaine. Its a gift, having such a knowledgeable AND very compassionate vet! All of their other staff have also been GREAT at this new location! You wont be disappointed....give them a try. :-)

I have never been so comfortable with a Veterinary Hospital as I am with Blaine Family Vet hospital. I had already been taking my oldest dog, Stella here for a few months and now we added our puppy, Rue to the mix. They have answered our questions and kept us on track with all the vaccines and growth needs of our pup. They are super personable and I feel like we are family when walking in there! I am one of those over-protective dogmoms... so if I say its a good place, you better believe its the best! -Janessa

Ever since they changed hands a few years ago, at first the prices were fair, but as time goes forward they are constantly sending postcards saying my dog needs this or that which is too soon or not needed as he was just seen for recently. When he needs a medication for a chronic issue, in the past I have been able to replace the medicine without paying for an office visit because he has always been diagnosed with needing the same one. But now I am on a fixed income and they say they want double the price of the medicine and another office visit. Ill start going elsewhere because they are not willing to work with me. Too bad after using the same clinic for 5 years.

We used to come here when it was another owner, so I was leery coming back. All of my fears went away when I met Dr. Krista and the staff. They are so wonderful and great at their jobs. Both my animals are difficult, so I was worried how they would act. Krista was great with them and the animals did just fine. I felt the pricing was very reasonable. I am so happy we went here. I wished I had read the reviews before we brought our dog here. We have similar negative experiences that have been reported.Poor communication- I was expecting to have a conversation with vet, Krista Steffenhagen, about my dogs problems. We brought our dog in for a urinalysis we were told that the vet was not able to speak with us about the results. She asked an assistant to come out to the lobby and relay them to us. When we asked questions about the results the assistant went back to the vet and then came back but forgot part of the answer and had to back again to speak with the vet. Eventually the assistant came out and said the vet would have to call us later which ended up being phone tag. When my husband did get her on the phone 2 weeks later her answers were vague and she said a different diagnosis then what we were originally told. When pressed on it she admitted she didn’t have our dogs chart in front of her so she wasn’t sure. We ended up scheduling another visit. Again at this visit the vet wasn’t there and were told she would call us later. No solutions to our dogs issue, multiply visits tests and medicines were prescribed but still no solution. Each time we were told something along the lines of each dog is different and responds differently to treatments, we will keep trying to figure it out.We spent quite a bit of money for nothing in return. We ended up switching to another vet.

I used to have a wonderful Vet and was sooo reasonable. He retired, so we needed to find another Vet for both our dogs that have back problems and seizures. We called many Vets and decided to go to the Vet in Blaine on 65 and 109th. They were so expensive and seem to care only about the money and not my dogs or what I wanted for them. I decided to try Blaine Family Hospital since its around the corner. I feel blessed that I found and tried them out. Love, Love everyone there. The Drs are awesome and you can tell they care. I have been there many times in the last 6 months and have been blown away by how they care and that their not bankrupting me, I cant believe how reasonable they are compared to others. And the most important thing is they let me make the decisions and they dont push for unnecessary cares to bring up costs like many, many other Vets. Id give 10 stars if I could. Went in for a recheck on kennel cough and found out she has pneumonia. They noticed right away she was pale and put her on oxygen. They were all concerned and very attentive. Very caring people!

I went to this vet for my first time today with my 2 year old husky/German shepherd mix and my 2 month old husky. I was nervous at first because I loved my old vet for my older dog but had to switch because we moved. When I called on Monday they had availability for both of them the next day. They were great with both of my boys. They were patient with my older one who hates getting his ear checked and very helpful and informative with all information. They sent me home with a free “puppy pack” for my little one with ALL sorts of goodies and his first flea/tick and heartworm meds were included in this pack. I will definitely continue to go to them for any future visits and would recommend them to anyone looking for a new place.

Great customer service and treated my animals extremely well. I think I’ve found my permanent vet!

Our dog was placed on prednisone and metronidazole. Was handed the medications in the middle of their waiting area and said that “there would be increased thirst and urination” with the medications. 3-4 days into the medications our dog started throwing up. Once we stopped the medication, he seemed to get better, but took sometime. Also what appeared was a rash on his skin and tail. If you look up the side effects of these two medications there was much more than increased thirst and urination. Disappointing communication and we will not be taking him back.

Blaine Family Vet has seen both of my cats Minto and Artist.Minto was seen by another Animal Hospital before Blaine Family Vet for treatment. Minto was seen for dehydration, not eating, hacking, not much movement just really down. I spent $500.00 on her for X-rays, iv fluids, sedation, exam, and etc. They wanted me to bring her back in for more X-rays after she was fasted. They diagnosed her for a blockage. At that point I wanted a second opinion. I couldn’t see her like that anymore. I reached out to Blaine Family Veterinary Hospital and a very good friend. They acted fast and treated Minto right away diagnosed her for Pneumonia. The next day Minto was feeling much better.Artist where do I even start! Artist started peeing out blood about a month ago took him in to Access Animal Hospital they treated him right away sent us home with medication. Once his meds were done I wanted a recheck at VCA Animal Wellness Hospital they rechecked his urine sent us home with nothing and made a plan if this happens again bring him back in. Once again I reached out to Blaine Family Veterinary Hospital and my good friend. They rechecked his urine and sent us home with medication and prescription food for his bloody urine.It just seemed like VCA Animal Wellnsss Center in Maple Grove just wanted me to keep on coming back and spending more money without treating my cats first.Blaine Family Veterinary Hospital put my cats first and they treated them both!I will definitely be back with them and my dog! I was very happy with the fast treatment they have gotten!

Brought my cat here for a dental. Im very bonded to him and protective. They were extremely professional, kind and thorough throughout the whole process. They quoted me on the high end and I ended up spending less than anticipated which I thought was commendable. Apparently my cat also enjoyed his experience and would like to go back to see them because he has been hanging out in his carrier since I brought him home. Im slightly offended! haha
