Since moving into oakwood I have had only positive experiences with the management, maintenance and residents. Whenever I have an issue with my apartment I get it addressed quickly and professionally! George, is always super friendly to my friends, dog and myself. I couldn’t ask for a better place to live!

I’ve lived at oakwood for almost a year and it’s a very close commute to campus. The staff is very friendly, George is super nice with my roommates and animals. Great experience overall!

Management is what is horrible here. Office staff is always super friendly and very helpful! It took a year of complaining about our loud dryer that left clothes and entire house smelling burnt for them to replace it. Now our “new” dryer is even louder and leaves clothes smelling burnt as well :) the painters this complex hires will just welcome themselves into your house without knocking, during one our past inspections, they locked my cat in my room for the entire day, maintenance will leave front door wide open ignoring that I have a cat. Long story short, if you have any problems while living here, they will be ignored until you email josh himself and even then, it will be a temporary fix. 0/10 find another place to give your money to.

I’ve lived at Oakwood for about two years now, it has been a positive experience overall. The staff has been kind and courteous, from the employees in the office to the maintenance workers. Price was a primary draw to me choosing Oakwood, and they still don’t disappoint.

The horrendous snow removal is pathetic,its there so called maintenance guys that arent snow appoved!! No salt on sidewalks nor approaches,nor do they clean up where cars park,,large landslides of ice between cars once again no matter what dont care about anyones health, nor lifes. The Owner is a puppet master and George his so called best is only far from approved..Oakwoods standing tall.

Really enjoy the convenient route to campus! The staff is friendly, inviting, and very informative. The is my first year living at Oakwood and I do not know why I have not lived here sooner.

The office is very difficult and unprofessional! They don’t Fulfill the work orders that you put in! They also take forever to shovel the snow and salt the roads!!! And they give you a very short notice of when roommates are moving in, especially during Covid, and that’s just unprofessional!

I have lived in the area for 3 years and have had several different accomodations in that time. Oakwood was hands down the best of them. It was a place were I will always think of as home in Big Rapids. The community is full of great amenities and friendly people. The neighbours are great and the staff are always eager to assist you any way that they can.

Things are very back and forth. They take forever to fix problems. Have a leak in our hot water heater still a year later that is now growing mold understand our sink and floor boards. Ridiculous.

They don’t know how to plow their parking lots. My car is a tiny car that gets stuck every time it snows. HORRIBLE

Lived at Hillcrest, the 2 bedroom apartments, and really enjoyed it. Clean apartments, quiet complex, easy to access, plenty of parking, good upkeep and snow removal on sidewalks, and close to both Ferris State University and all the shopping places. Very friendly office staff and always trying to help and make you feel comfortable and welcome. I would recommend this place to anyone.

Price is good for the space. Good place for partying for certain holidays. Good bundles with internet and cable. Very friendly and helpful staff. One star down because maintenance takes a while sometimes (maintenance guys are cool though). One star down because of how outsiders treat the development, no regard or respect for property on the hands of others (nothing to do with management or maintenance). Good place for sophomore and junior year until schooling gets serious.

Going into my senior year at Ferris I have stayed at Hillcrest Oakwood Apartments for the entire time Ive been at Ferris. The staff is great, the pricing is good compared to other places around, the spacing is nice, they are pet friendly, and as a college student its a perk that this is home to some of the best apartment parties. Id recommend them to anyone looking to move off campus plus they are also offering deals and give aways.

Bad customer service

I was out of hillcrest for over a year but their stupendous brand ambassador Rachel went out of her way to track me down and make sure I got my mail that was just sent there. It ended up being very important mail and it meant a great deal to me. She is a perfect representation of what you want from any employee and makes me want to sign back with hillcrest!

The maintenance crew is very helpful and the apartments are priced well for what they offer. Heating bills are quite affordable since it is gas heated and the carpet holds heat in well. Also has a lot of land on the property and forest in the back so it doesnt feel too crowded

Maintenance crew are nice people and while they seem backlogged with issues, they are relatively quick to respond when its important. That is about the only positive thing I can say. Terrible tenant selection (maybe not necessarily their fault, but something to be aware of), poor landscape maintenance including roads (dozens of large and deep potholes), rude office staff who ignore complaints and issues and generally seem to dislike all the tenants. I have requested three times that something be done about a roommate who continuously smokes in the unit and to date there has been no resolution or follow-up. This complex also seems to host ridiculously large parties every so often to the detriment of tenants that arent participating. If thats your thing then thats fine, but loud music, property destruction, and loads of weed and booze do not a good evening make for me.

My college student leased a unit from Hillcrest Oakwood Properties. The unit was in decent condition upon inspection. The issue that I have is with the management and office staff of Oakwood Properties. Over the course of my daughters lease there were issues with safety and additional tenants not on a lease residing in her apartment.These issues were brought up to the attention of Hillcrest Oakwood Properties staff and nothing was done to resolve the issue(s).In addition Oakwood staff made several accounting errors on my daughters account and tried to have her pay an additional $800.00 in rent and security deposits that she had already paid. My daughter spent several weeks resolving this issue with the corporate office and the end result was that she had paid the monies and there was in fact an accounting error made by Oakwood staff.Onsite Office hours: Oakwood staff is extremely difficult to contact. They are not in the office during stated hours.Eventually my daughter terminated the lease with Oakwood and she was called by Marcia Alger / Property Manager for Hillcrest Oakwood Properties. Marcia was extremely unprofessional and did not attempt to resolve any of the issues in a professional manner. My daughter asked what was being done to resolve the issues; asked for a statement of her account and all Marcia was capable of was screaming at my daughter.Based on my experience and interactions the management at Oakwood does not have the ability to properly address issues that come up with managing a large property. They do not treat their tenants with respect nor look out for their well-being and safety.As a parent I would strongly recommend that your college student seek alternatives to Oakwood Properties.

I lived at Oakwood for FIVE MONTHS, thats it. We were without a stove/oven for the first month and a half while living there, which the roommates that were still there at the end of the year were charged with missing pieces they took when they FINALLY fixed it. Constant problems with showers which they took forever to get a hold of and come work on. Decided to wait until everyone was moved in for the year to pave the parking lot which has not a single extra parking space to begin with. The office receptionist were VERY rude when you had to talk to them. I currently havent lived there since December 2015, but my lease ended in May and still have yet to get my security deposit. I have contacted and spoke with them which Ive given them the information they needed and they have still failed to figure it out. Finally after three weeks got in contact with management after calling all offices everyday multiple times a day and even leaving voicemails. I would NOT recommend living here!

This is overall a decent place to live for the price. There are always parties going on, so if you dont like a lot of noise or people around, then I wouldnt recommend living here. The staff is pleasant and helpful. The only downside is the condition of the apartment. The stove in my unit is very outdated compared to the stove in other units. There are also two burn holes next to my oven/stove that are very unappealing to the eye. Theres a lot of smoke detectors, which isnt neccessarily a bad thing, but the one in the hallway near the bathroom goes off while taking a shower if the door is open or cracked. The one in the living room goes off if something gets even a little smoky while cooking. Overall, this is a decent place to live.

I cant say enough good things about the maintenance crew! They made my unit immaculate for my new roommates. They take care of you here.

Hillcrest is possibly the worst place to stay in big rapids. Do yourself a favor and do not stay here. The place is big but everything was broken in there. The closests fell on me multiple times and the sinks were broken and clogged. Also, you can hear everything from other apartments (good luck sleeping) You think you’re saving money but I promise you’re not because you have to pay for your own electricity and internet even though they falsely advertise the internet. The only good thing I can say is that maintenance was nice and timely with issues.

Oakwood Is the worst place you can live off campus. They do not maintain their property and they have terrible management.

They have one dude with a snow blower trying to plow the entire apartment complex. The internet is god awful, my stove has one and a half burners that smoke when we use them. If i werent graduating this year I would definitely be relocating.
