I went in here yesterday, 12/6/17 and my experience was kind of a pain. The guy who cut my hair was great. Solid haircut decent price. However, listening to a woman working there disciplining her child and the dogs roaming around got old. The dogs were awesome but hearing her constantly telling them to go lay down and telling her kid to stop messing with them became annoying. I just wanted to sit and wait in peace. Id go back if it was her day off. I dont feel like its much to ask to not have to listen to that when your just waiting for a haircut. Haircut was 5 stars but the environment is a 2 or 3. By the owners response to my fair and equitable review, it shows her professionalism and desire to keep her customers the slightest bit comfortable is not a priority.

Had a great hair cut and conversation with Danny. The store is a in a great location and has and incredibly friendly feel to it. As for the reviews saying they do not care about their customers, I could not disagree more. I had great conversations with everyone in the store and felt a genuine human connection. Deserves way more than four stars.

There used to be this old saying Cheap, Fast, Quality. Pick twoWell Jakes BS seems to break that all to hell. The haircuts are cheap, fast, and arguably some of the best you can get in town.The atmosphere isnt for everyone. If rock music and someone having a beer while they wait is going to bother you - then you might want to go elsewhere.The staff are great and are no nonsense. They get it you, give you a good trim and get you on your way.

Other reviewer hit it spot on. Was there a few weeks ago, plenty of people waiting. The guy cutting hair was working very hard while Mohawk woman exhibited the professionalism of an eight year old. While folks were waiting she kept her customer for an extra ten minutes after the cut just to chat. While three people waited in chairs ten feet away!! She even refused to answer the ringing phone even though she wasnt cutting hair, and the poor dude who was actually working had to leave his customer and answer the phone. She must be either an owner or family, as she could never hold a job with her sloppiness and lazy attitude. Id fire her day one and change the lock. My haircut was fine, and I feel for the poor guy who cut my hair while having to cover for his lazy, rude partner. Did I mention shes obnoxiously loud as well? Ugh. I may give it another shot, if shes out of there next time I will substantially upgrade my review.

Had a great haircut here a couple months ago. Went in again recently and it was just the owner working - two other chairs were empty. Customers were coming in while I was getting my cut and it was clear that the owner was rushing to finish my hair. She decided that she was done and quickly pulled the smock off, making it clear that my cut was over. Id literally been there for 20 minutes tops. She gave me no opportunity to see the back of my hair, or to get my brows trimmed. Now Im sitting here with an uneven haircut, and Ill have to go to another barber to get it fixed. All in all, very poor experience at Jakes. Im giving 2 stars instead of 1 because my first haircut at Jakes was great. But now, I wont be going back.

My first haircut since moving here to Bham. I was in early so the owner did my cut. I love what she did and what an interesting and talented person. Glad I showed up early because they started getting super busy around 11:00 am on a Tuesday. I am a huge fan☺

Extremely friendly and attentive staff.Some barbers rush the haircut to fit more customers. Here they will take their time and have a nice conversation as well.A major plus is that the barber is dog friendly!!!

Julie, the owner cut my long dark hair and I have gotten a MILLION compliments on it since she did it.She used amazing shampoo and conditioner to wash, took her time and really did an outstanding job on the cut! Its really edgy, razored edges and layered! Im a pretty vanilla woman but this hair has just a little bit of extra edges in the way it lays that it looks really cool! Definitely not too much, just perfect!I also have a chronic scalp condition that makes me nervous to get my haircut sometimes but she was very professional, patient (she let me freak about it while she nodded knowingly :)) and most importantly, didnt shame me one bit.The environment was pleasant and spunky. Everyone laughs and gets along, it was a really fun and cool experience getting to sit in her seat while she cut my hair.I would definitely reccomend Jakes TO ANYONE wanting to get an updated, fresh, AMAZING haircut; even if youve had the same style for years like I have.

I went in for a fairly unoriginal cleanup, and I experienced a great conversation, attention to my hair I never noticed, and a comfortable environment where I can be myself.Danny took care of me so well, and getting a (long overdue) haircut at Jakes was more than I expected; especially as someone with unwieldy hair. My cut is stylish, clean, and wonderfully done. I encourage you to seek out this spot, its worth the effort.

Great haircuts, and great people. Free neck trims in between cuts, and last haircut I realized I wanted it differently the next day (just me being picky) and changed it for me for free! Not many places are so friendly about that. Thanks!

I met Julie over 10 years ago through my boyfriend (now hubby). At first, she scared the crap out of me, but over time, I came to realize that not only is she great at her job, under her tough exterior, shes actually a wonderful person (sorry to expose you 😋). I not only get my hair cut but also my son as well. With two little kiddos sometimes its hard to get down to Jakes so the other day she came to my house to cut my hair 😳 If thats not awesome customer service Im not quite sure what is. Thanks for all you do!!In response to some of the reviews, people that regularly go to Jakes know what they are getting into. They know that the staff is loud obnoxious fun and entertaining. At the same time, they are caring and attentive to their job and clientele. If you are looking for a calm meditative hair cut then there are plenty of other spots in Bellingham.

The only place I go anymore. They do an excellent job of giving you the style you prefer, and genuinely seem to care about you loving your haircut when you walk out the door. Excellent staff and a kickass shop.

Quick head shaves at a reasonable price. Very often there are two barbers, and there are often long waits, mostly on weekends. Go on weekdays before the evening.

BEST HAIRCUT OF MY ENTIRE LIFE! Seriously. All of my life I have been embarrassed by a triangular shaped do. My curly hair needed some serious attention, and Jennifer Miller gave it some! Ive got the best set of face framing layers, I gotta say. Jakes is super cool, serving beer (and beef jerkey...just kidding)--yet I dont feel out of place, or not cool enough :) Cant wait to go for some color! Thank you, Jennifer!

Ditto to what Sanja said. I had Mohawk girl shape my beard with the straight razor. This place is so Bellingham. Quirky and cool with some f-bombs so if thats not your cup of tea... But for me it was super fun and great. Julie got me all trimmed up for a special thing (which went great thanks Julie). But I appreciated your expertise as you were using a deadly weapon on me (lol) See you soon.

Always flawless! I have been going here for about 2 years now and its really the only option for a mens haircut in my opinion. I have tried a few other options in Bellingham and have never had the kind of service, or quality cut as you get here at Jakes.

I wouldnt go here if you have long hair. I chose to go here because on bringing my cousin a few weeks back, I saw that the staff looked moderately competent and the place I typically go is closed Mondays. I bit the bullet and made the move there with my 5 years of hair. Ricoh was saying to me how brave it was to go to a place youve never been with as much hair as I have, but that he spent most of his career cutting womens hair so I felt like I made a good decision. He proceeds to shave one side of my head up extremely high while trimming my sideburns. I dont know if he did it on purpose or not but one side of my head was trimmed up normally and the other he shaved up past the top of my ear. Anyways, really looks bad. After we were done my hair was down and he asked what I thought and with my hair down all seemed fine so I said great job, looks good, and I tipped him the most I could on their iPad pos. After I got home and put my hair up I saw how terribly uneven it was and how he must have cut off almost two feet of hair where it was shaved. I also noticed while trimming up my neck, he did basically the same thing and left me with about an inch of a cleanly shaven border on the back of my head on my neck. Used to never have to get hair cuts and now Im going to have to get it trimmed probably twice a month because a decent portion of my head is now shaved and I look like riff-raff or something all lined up. When I went back to get my $25 back because this is not ok to do with someone with 2 feet of hair, Ricoh acts like a coward and says, yea I thought it was weird that your hair was already like that, I was going to say something but didnt but I didnt do it. If you pride yourself as a professional, at least own up to your mistakes. I hadnt paid for a haircut in 5 months, so $25+$8 tip is quite a lot compared to never paying for hair cuts. They denied my refund.In addition to that, the lady that works there with the totally killer Mohawk, when I showed up, had just finished cutting someones hair. As she finished with her client I was already starting to get my haircut and someone was there waiting for one. She said she was gonna run across the street for a second. Once she came back there were two people waiting and she said she was gonna step out back for a second. A little while later she comes back in all casual like on the phone, and three people were waiting. After that she said oh Ive just gotta make this phone call, are you almost done, Ricoh? As if he needed to step on it in order to help with the next client. So she chats it up on the phone real relaxed like while 3 people are sitting trying to get a hair cut. She was on almost an hour long break while I was there, 3 people waiting, and shes rushing the guy doing my hair to get on helping the next customers.tl;dr Ricoh shaved one side of my head with 5 years of growth. Denied he did it and refused refund. Mohawk lady is not a hard worker. They do not deserve anyones business.

Disclaimer: I have not had service here.That said, the owner should be aware of their loss of business due to their lack of diplomacy while answering negative reviews. I would otherwise be a paying customer. I will be going somewhere else.
