Staff is very friendly, the place is clean and its local. All great.

The Gym is a comfortable workout space. It could benefit from some updated equipment and a little more engagement from the team. All in all Id say with the safety protocols in place it facilitates a good workout.

The location is slightly smaller than other retro. The parking is available on the side of the center. The cleaner that day I went was extremely nice and helpful.

Ive been a member here since 2007 and my biggest problem with them is they never updated any of the equipment, its the same old stuff and alot of the machines are out of order

Love the gym, people, and kids that working there are very nice. Wish manager fix more things up and got some equipment, little dirty and tanning not working. Otherwise I love it.

I was just there,hoping to keep extending the freeze on my membership.The person behind the counter was outstanding in handling the situation.He texted someone in charge who would only extend the freeze for another 2 months.Alfano and Piscopo should be blasting Murphy every day for his allowing people to drink at bars while still prohibiting showers and lockers.

Entry:Upon entry of the gym they have a ton of signage at the front desk It can be a bit overwhelming with all of the signs they have the front desk area, you definitely have to have your mask on you get your temperature taken and you have to complete a waiver before you can enter the gym. Youll see off to the left is a child care Room. The front desk staff are OK they are not overly friendly sometimes often very distracted or dont have proper information about the gym. Ive also never seen a manager in that gym ever since Ive been a member. Whenever Ive asked about management they always say he never comes here which I think is quite odd.Gym Floor:Its ok, has all standard equipment but they dont seem to get the equipment serviced at all because some machines are not oiled and smooth when in use. Not one guy at the gym looks like theyve ever lifted the 100+ lbs dumbbells but they have them in there. The gym floor is very compact with equipment not enough walking space so youll have to use the narrow two way black and white tiled aisle.Cardio Area:The cardio area is a long strip of treadmills elliptical seated bikes and 4 stair masters on your right upon entry. The stair masters are very outdated and often do not work properly If at all. The treadmills Are decent but the tread on the treadmills is often broken or the treadmill itself is often unbalanced so when you step on the treadmill moves. The ellipticals and seated bikes are very standard they are not up to date, they just have the one stationary bike. They do have a cardio movie room however because of covid it is not in use right now so I dont know what that room looks like. They do have a very small aerobic cardio Room, honestly cannot imagine how they could host spin classes zumba or any type of group fitness classes in that room.Power Lifting area:OK theres a plus side they do have a back power lifting area which it has some of the standard crossfit style equipment... rowers bikes deadlifting area pull muscle up bar etc. They also have a back abdominal training Room which I dont see the need to have that room back there they should just completely open that space up to increase the size of the actual gym and move that equipment somewhere else. Just a bunch of repetitive equipment I find to be very very unnecessary. I dont often see people go into that room to train abs you dont need that much equipment anyway in my opinion to train your abs but whatever to each his own.Overall Experience:This seems to be quite a normal thing for this gym but they often forget to come in open the gym in the morning which is a huge inconvenience for the 5:00 a.m. Gym goers. There have been several times when Ive found myself sitting out in front of the gym at 5:00 a.m. for at least 45 minutes sometimes over an hour waiting for someone to come open the gym. There is no phone number and no answering service to use to call to let someone know that the gym has yet to be opened so quite often there is no one there in the morning at 5:00 a.m. and they often dont even apologize about it. Overall the staff seems indifferent or distracted I dont often see them walking around the gym changing any of the trash or servicing the bathroom which is a whole other thing the bathrooms are often quite awkward in my opinion.Oh Parking:You are not allowed to park directly in front of the gym it is prohibited. Your vehicle will get towed if you park in front. There are signs that indicate that your vehicle will get towed if you do park in front of the gym. :/

I really love this gym, place is clean sanitized daily all the equipment works, great gym to workout at. Thing I think is great they don’t rib you with your membership low price work out all you want and you don’t have to take out a mortgage to pay for it well worth it and then some only regret I have is I didn’t join sooner

You go to workout, build your body. This place is friendly, met a lot of great people (early morning hours) who take working out serious. Staff is very friendly, the place is clean and its local. All great.

Has everything you need

I am relieved to go back to Gym after the covid lockdown. There seems to be additional emphasize on keeping the gym clean.

I joined this location because its close to my school through a promo they were running. Its a friendly environment and no one is such a meathead that you feel uncomfortable. I have the pass that allows me to go to any location so thats nice. Im still in my first month, but so far I like it better than another gym, whos name rhymes with think.

The bathrooms are usually dirty. At times there is no toilet paper. There is one soap dispenser that barely even puts anything out and the soap doesn’t even lather making you feel like you didn’t wash your hands. Get new soap dispensers!!!! Have employees clean/check the bathroom regularly.Weights are always out of place. I never see staff going around tidying up like I have at all other gyms.The cardio equipment is so old!!! The exercise bikes don’t work (except 1), multiple treadmills are out of commission. The stair climbers are literally from the 80s and rusting. This is the worst gym I have ever been to. I regret signing the contract.

Wish theyd update their hours. Inside doors wide open and lights and fans on but outside door locked at 9:40pm

Very very good gym. I’ve been to every retro in north jersey and this one is the best. Clean, usually not packed. Good set up and rarely can’t find the weight you are looking for

Just moved around this neighborhood and was looking for gym to Join. Read the reviews and went to take a look.Location is good and convenient. Parking was difficult to find in the front, but has a large parking space in the side and rear.Decent equipments. Lewis the trainer helped me get started 💪. Overall pleased and a thumbs up!

They have the equipment you need to get your results. Pretty much its up to youre determination and resilience to attain your goal. If you need an extra push they have personal trainers and classes with an extra fee of course. I would like to see new/different equipment...like that Ill feel like a kid in a toy store (something new to play with). But they do have an open space in the back to your right by the hidddn ab room where switch it up and create your own routine with freestyle weights.

The weekend hours are rediculous

Went to this gym for a bit. Its fine. There was, however, a guy that was walking around with his shirt off, which I think is bizarre and inappropriate in any gym setting. Made me uncomfortable. And it wasnt on one occasion. My boyfriend still goes. I will not be going back.

For me this is a fantastic location , I have visited several gyms and some are much smaller and very tight.. The staff is helpful and the owner takes pride in his facility and knows most of the regulars by name.. The cleanliness is spot on😉

If could rate as 0 ⭐️ will I been cancel my account at least 4 years ago they’ve never updated it in theirs systems so the past 4 years they keep charging me, when I found out I went straight there to straighten out everything their answers they don’t know asks if I can speak to the manager, the manager never there to solve any problem. Went home call almost everyday to speak to the manager the answer is the same she or he is not there. DO YOURSELF A FAVOR STOP GIVING THEM BUSINESS CAUSE THEY DONT CARE

Gym is ok. Not a fan of the smell but it’s a gym. A bit cramped and not much fun classes as I’d like to.

Feels like home. Jeff at the front desk always goes above and beyond to be energetic and enthusiastic when a member enters the gym...even at 5am. The little things that Jeff does have such a significant impact on everyone that walks through that door.

Great gym. Conveniently located. The new Physical Training Manager Resh helped get a regimen going for me. I feel that I have way more energy now than earlier.

This gym is the best due to its very friendly staff and spacious, clean area. The equipment is well kept and the shakes here are to die for! It is worth everyones time to come and visit this beautiful gym.

Ive been a member for about 4 months or so. For the price its a good deal. Nothing fancy but it has everything you need to get in shape. Its busy of course, but what gym isnt. They make protein drinks at counter which is nice after a workout. So far no complaints, diverse crowd but no one intolerable as of yet. Few juice heads which is a plus for me.

Ive been going to gyms for over 20yrs so I know a quality gym when I see one. This particular gym is second to last as far as all the gyms Ive been to. Its a decent size, the staff is somewhat friendly, and the rest rooms/lockers rooms are less than desirable. Then again there are some members that are just plain disgusting and dont know how to pick up after themselves. Expect to see paper towels and bottle caps thrown into the urinals causing them to overflow. Most of the machines are not of high caliber. Be careful with the cable machines! Theyre out of order often and they snap. I know because it happened to me. Also please note that if you do get hurt because of faulty equipment or straight up negligence (aka cheap owner) you cant do anything about it. Read that waiver carefully before you agree to the contract. Sometimes you really do get what you pay for. Spend a little more for a better quality gym. Signature, LA fitness, etc...

These guys are great and I think the facilities are above average. The guy at the front desk was understanding when I had scan issues with my barcode and worked a solution ASAP. Made me feel like VIP. 5/5 from me.

Changing my review. They have since improved. Staff more friendly and helpful than previous group. People coming here generally seem serious and although social, will greet you in a friendly manner, but keep it going and let you get your workout in. Smoothies have improved a bit. No more ice chips.

Ive been in the customer service management field for many years and so treating customers well is very important to me. I havent had any major issues since I started my membership a few months ago until now. Today I went in and took my daughter with me as I often do. After a little over an hour of working out I heard them announce over the speaker that childcare is now closed- this surprised me because childcare normally closes at 12pm. I went up to the front desk and asked the guy if they were closing childcare early today and his response was [EITHER WAY ITS ONLY ONE HOUR FOR CHILDCARE- LAST TIME YOU SPENT 2 HOURS AND WE LET IT SLIDE..IDK IF THE GUY TOLD YOU....THEY WANTED ME TO CLOSE IT AT 10 BUT I GAVE YOU AN EXTRA 10 MINUTES BECAUSE OF WHEN YOU SIGNED IN] .. I said okay, I let him know that I wasnt aware that there was an hour limit... got my stuff, my child and left.Make no mistake- I have no problem with someone enforcing their companys policies, I absolutely dont. Also, I should have read the childcare policy on my agreement document so that I couldve been fully aware of those policies. Therefore, the problem isnt that they have such a policy- I actually think its a fair one.The problem here is the way he spoke to me. His tone was simply just so damm impolite. He wasnt nice about it at all and he sure didnt tell me quietly... So, for this reason Ill be cancelling my membership here after the next billing cycle- cancellation fee and all.

This is by far the cleanest and most organized retro Ive been too. The girls upfront are super nice and friendly, they make great shakes. Ive been to 4 locations and without a doubt is the best one. I read a comment about someone complaining cause they make announcements so people can rack weights, well rack the weights. I hate when people leave dumbbells and weights on the floor. So keep up the good work. The only thing Im not really a fan of is the music, but most of us have our own anyway.

As everyone look forward for new year resolutions, so did I to join the gym . I have visited to this place today and was very pleased with facility, cleanness and friendly staff and will recommend to everyone

I know in the past I had written some bad reviews about this place but it is finally turned around. It took some time and a lot of work but the place has really been cleaned up considerably!The staff is much nicer, the gym is much cleaner and I have noticed a friendlier clientele attending.The bathrooms and locker rooms have been re-done and there is a fresh coat of paint on everything.The HVAC system in the core room is now working perfectly.All the elliptical machines have new cupholders.The broken free weights are being replaced.When something breaks it is fixed right away.There are still some minor issues that need to be worked out but I’m sure in time that will be taken care of as well.

Staff is late regularly,. If something breaks down it is broken down for months including things that are used regularly. Very often the movie room is forgotten about and is not showing a movie. Its better to pay more someplace else or go to the 24 hour Retro in West Orange.

Except the parking lot the gym is very very well equipped for $20.Everything you need to work out. Just dont expect anything fancy like sauna and steam room

I joined the gym a few years back ... I had a terrible experience. I went there and the gym is always busy... difficult to get on the machines I like. The final straw was when this little feminine dude comes up to me laughing how he has to ask me to leave the gym because I have sweatpants on that are really a knitey ... I thought the dude was joking.. so I told the guy I want to speak to a manager— I spoke some other dude even more feminine then the first dude telling me he agrees with him I immediately cancelled my membership and joined their competitor’s gym. The place sucks the management have their heads stuck in the wrong place .. who knows who cares find another gym. I did I am much happier and more fit and healthier.

This gym fits in with its surroundings. Its cheap, but doesnt have much to offer. Very very small....very very crowded (even at 10 am), and they lack the basic machines Ive always been used to at my previous gyms. (Ive always gone to Planet fitness so I dont exactly expect a luxary gym either). I was very disappointed but I guess if youre used to the area maybe its not so bad?

Should have most of what you need to get a good workout in. Equipment isnt the newest but I rarely have an issue with anything being broken and the staff is helpful!

Sunday, about 4pm. Changing clothes in the locker room. Standing in front of the mirror and taking my bra off. I notice someone passing me from the back but I pay no attention as usual. As I reach for my sports bra I glance at the person and it turns out tobe a Retro Fitness employee, a man! So he just casually passed me by while I’m standing there topless. I’m in his way, so he couldn’t just not see me. He was looking for another employee, a girl who was in the locker room further in. I was so shocked I just looked him straight in the eyes and asked “what the hell?” He mumbled “oh, I thought no one was there” and continues on his way, reconnected with the girl and they went out.

Fantastic location , very spacious, not crowded and staff is very helpful . I would recommend everyone to visit this gym.

Generally good. Parking is less than ideal (gym patrons are forced to park on the side of the building) and it could benefit from a good deep cleaning, but its otherwise a decent gym with pools, helpful staff.

Definitely worth signing up. It’s a great gym with large variety of gear. It’s also a lot bigger than you’d expect from the location. Even when it gets busy, I can still manage to get time on any of the machines. Locker rooms are small but never crowded, weights are usually racked correctly, equipment is mostly function (except for broken tv’s), mirrors are always clean, music is always on, paper towels and spray bottles are always full. It’s a good gym. The only thing I’d like to see is the employees clean (as in sanitation) a little more. The place isn’t thaaat dirty and I’ve seen someone with a mop every now and then but I’d like to see some serious cleaning, that’s all.

It has a cool vibe and the yellow machines really psyche you up. But there are mirrors, mirrors everywhere, how can people lift anything while staring at themselves in a mirror? Its disorienting.The floor under the squat rack was sloped in a funny way, it was all so bizarre, I felt like a noob and totally out of my flow.Please take the mirrors down.Otherwise, a good gym with chill peoples.

Not my cup of tea. To much going on with display, seems more of a hang out place. The client dont put back the weights. Machines are just ok. I think its expensive for what it looks like and they have to offer.

What do you expect for 20 dollars... Staff provides poor service if any... They should stop socializing/eating at the front desk and pay more focus on making sure the place is clean.

I signed up at Fairfield thinking all the Retro were the same high end feel, this is not. Broken showers, dark dirty locker rooms, etc.

I came into town to visit my cousin and thought to stop by however, staff is rude and unprofessional. Some of the equipment need updating.

The gym is okay, so local gym sometimes its crowded and you have to wait for a machine most of the time you dont, no issues with anybody in the place which is nice, some of the staff is friendly others dont even look at you when you walk in or a look walk out, it cost nothing to say hello or goodbye or a smile acknowledge me sometimes is a nice thing. But its not something that will stop me from going.

I went to renew my membership for the 5th year in a row. The worker there did not know how to renew my membership and thus called his manager on the phone. After he was done with the manager he gave me the price for the year which was higher than last year. I asked that he call his manager as I wanted more information as to why the price had gone up so much and was told the following Sorry, I do not want to bother my manager further Needless to say they just lost a customer and I will be going to another gym now

My first time there and the power goes out on the treadmill I was running on. Luckily, I did not fall on my face. Told the front desk about the problem, now lets see how long they wait before doing something about it.

Filthy! Staff is lazy. Holiday operating hours accommodate the staff, not the members. Cardio equipment is in disrepair. Its worth spending the extra money for a better gym.

Join if you cant afford anything else and you dont mind being treated like crap.Get out and Thanks for leaving on time are common things youll hear when you leave at 10:55 even though they claim to close at 11.Save your $20 and just buy weights and work out at home

The WORST experience Ive ever had! had an issue when i first signed up, cancelled my membership, tried to give them another shot and once AGAIN i have issues with them. Not only are they a bunch of frauds, but the place is disgusting, the AC never works right, and the employees are some of the most RUDE people Ive ever met! I WILL be taking this complaint further this time around and they will never see my face again!

The WORST experience Ive ever had in a gym. The so called manager or supervisor or owner - whatever she is - is condescending at worst or incompetent at best. The staff is poorly trained and not pleasant. The place is dirty, the machines old and filthy. I paid $150 in early termination fees for me and my wife just to get the hell out of there.........other gyms in the area are charging the same rates and are 1000 times better!

This gym is horrible! Rude people, outdated machines, dirty machines, at times you cant even find a wipe to clean machines, dirty bathrooms, no one cleans machines after use! This is ghetto as a gym could get... On and to top it off staff has attitude problem, and extremely overcrowded good luck finding a machine to use

Ive been a member of retro for over 5 years. This by far is the worst retro Ive encountered. The staff is rude. The manager constantly harasses people about racking weights during peak hours. Kenilworth, Clark, Woodbridge, are MUCH better.
