Great place to learn, genuinely. It feels like a family there and progress can be made pretty quickly with the help of some amazing instructors, however I use They/Them pronouns, and apparently that was too difficult for the owner and main instructor to understand. Other staff and students respected it and met me with love and understanding, but I felt too anxious and frankly unsafe to return to any classes he taught. I miss going there, but I’d almost break down into an anxiety attack thinking about it after He said to my face that he would not use my pronouns simply because he didn’t understand them. It was disrespectful and unprofessional. It seriously is a great place to learn karate, but if you identify differently, you might want to second guess.

Fantastic family atmosphere! Kids come first and they teach to their age, which has been amazing. Our son will be in the adult classes after only attending 2 years in the child age group. Hes gained confidence, coordination, and follows directions better in such a short time. We love the instructors, owners, and anyone weve worked with here shows that they care about their students. Id recommend it to ANYone.

My two brothers have been attending the martial arts weapons camp this week. They have repeatedly said, This is the best camp we have ever been to! My ten year old brother even said, These people really know what they are doing! It has been a terrific experience for them and we plan to take them back.

American Family Martial Arts has been great for our children, who have been members for several years now. Its about so much more than the basics of karate. The children learn a lot of life skills and get a lot of character development, and the teachers are excellent role models for the children. AFMA is the best!

This is an excellent place to bring your children to learn more than just karate. They work at their age level to develop their thinking and motor skills. They also have a lot fun and make new friends. This is also a great place for adults to train and parents to train with and spend quality time with their children.

As a grandparent I am very impressed with AFMA. Master Tullier has instilled in my two grandchildren the importance of strength, confidence, integrity and physical fitness. Not only have I seen this in their classes but in their everyday life. Honesty and integrity are just two of the things that I see every day thanks to Master Tullier and the entire staff at AFMA, Baton Rouge, La.

My two boys, now 9 and 7, have been students of Master Tullier for two years. During that time, they have learned respect, self-confidence, and humility in addition to their Tang Soo Do skills curriculum. My wife and I plan on continuing their enrollment for another year.

Both of my children have been students at AFMA for 1 year. Recently, my 7 year old son fell in the store and had a deep gash on his head. There was SO much blood! He didnt say much while EMS bandaged him -no stitches! His next words: Master Tullier was right! I took 10 deep breaths to calm myself down and it worked. I wasnt afraid anymore! I am so proud that he used what he had learned in karate class and applied it during his own scary moment.I am so thankful for the life skills American Family Martial Arts teaches in class! Not only do they teach them, they teach them in way that sticks with children.

When I enrolled my son, I didn’t expect he will love karate and will make a great impact on his live, altitude, ethics and education. Since start in last May, my son is straight A+ and mode changed positively to recover from a depression he faced last year. I recommend afma to my friends.

I moved to Texas in October of last year. I disenrolled my son in September. They continue to charge me $125 a month and it is almost May. I have called multiple times and they tell me to contact the billing company, and the billing company tellls me to contact them. I am pursuing legal options because at this point I feel like they are intentionally stealing from my family. My 4 year old enjoyed karate with them, but it’s not worth the hassle of trying to get back the now $1000 that they owe me.

UPDATE (from review 3 years ago): How time flies! Now with 3 kids at different levels of black belt (3rd, 2nd, and junior), it is awesome to see them still looking forward to each class, building new skills and making new friends.ORIGINAL REVIEW: Sure, they teach martial arts. And yes, AFMA has great instructors. But one of the other benefits is . . . family. 4 of our family members train at AFMA. At AFMA we are a part of another awesome family that helps each student overcome unique challenges and make the most of natural gifts. Tang Soo Do is a such a powerful, elegant art. If your kids (or you) want to learn martial arts in safe--but challenging environment, visit AFMA. Youll quickly discover other benefits along the way: Confidence, discipline, fitness, and an extended family.

Iv e been training here for about 8 years with my sons, and we love it. It keeps us in shape, physically and mentally.PKSA teaches a composite style based on the traditional Korean art of Soo Bak. However, because of the political realities of Korea, the arts founder, Hwang Kee, traveled throughout China, adding Chinese elements to the style. Once the wars of the mid-20th centuries settled down in S. Korea, Tang Soo Do was established and eventually introduced to the US.In short, while you wont find an ancient tradition called Tang Soo Do, you can find the ancient traditions the arts founder studied.Great place for the whole family, but its not just kiddie karate. Plenty of adult classes and adult students, too.
