Friend of mine (whos a blue belt) recommended that I give BJJ a try, and stressed that it be with Gracie Barra. Attended the free intro class at the North Austin location, and enjoyed it so much I joined right after!Everyone has been friendly and welcoming... the instructors are great; they go over the techniques in a clear manner, and are very helpful during practice with comments and guidance. Its amazing... the other more advanced students often provide advice and constructive criticism, taking the time to help during training. Very supportive atmosphere!Highly recommend! Give the free intro class a try... and be ready for a workout!

Starting training here was one of the best decisions of my life! When I first walked in I felt comfortable, and this school is welcoming to any type of student regardless of gender, athletic ability, previous experience, etc. Each of the coaches truly care about student learning, and classes are well balanced between warmups, technique, and sparring. Walking in the door for the first time was the hardest step, but I just wouldnt be the same person without doing it.I couldnt recommend Gracie Barra North Austin enough!

I moved to Austin during summer 2020 and wanted to get my daughters into a sport that’ll help em out, and have made a family from the team members there. My daughters enjoy going and I get mad when I miss a class 😂From a training standpoint, everybody on the team is helpful and fun to be around. Like I said, I don’t like to miss because of this. There’s growth with each session for sure!

GB North Austin is a terrific place to train and learn BJJ. The community at this school is extremely welcoming. Walking through the door the first time is very intimidating but all reservations one might have are quickly wiped away by a great group of people. Professor Ricardo and his coaches truly care about every members progress and well being, both inside and outside of training. I originally planned to visit multiple schools before committing to one but after one class here I decided this was the school for me. Over a year later I have not second guessed that decision once. I look forward to coming to class everyday.

My daughter and I have been training at this school since December of 2019. We loved the time we had pre-pandemic shutdowns. Since the school reopened in May they have been very respectful of peoples personal preferences and boundaries for this whole pandemic situation.I really enjoy the community of people that I train with. I primarily attend their noon classes on Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday and its a great time. I even moved to Leander back in June and I still choose to commute 35 minutes down to this school even though there is a closer one (7 minutes away) to me because I enjoy the community at this school. The people are great, they are helpful, they push you when you need it, and they encourage you to constantly strive to get better. The professor is very friendly and has a heart for his students well being. The kids program has changed since coming back from the pandemic, but I actually prefer the new setup contrasted with the old method. The kids classes are smaller and more hands on with the professor and assistant coaches. Its a good blend of letting the kids have fun doing Jiu-Jitsu while still having disciplined activities throughout the training.

Same as alot of new students, the gym continues billing long after you leave even if you have given notice or have a family hardship. They refuse to answer calls or emails and keep charging your account month after month.I have even emailed and texted. No response just keep taking money every month. My bank is pursuing the matter.

I don’t ever leave a google review...I started training about a month ago. It put some purpose back into my life and I feel great already. Professor Ricardo has been beyond words in my short journey. He has a gift for teaching. He is truly welcoming and brings life into his classes. The classmates will make you feel home as well. When it comes to training we come to learn and have fun. It’s a very safe environment and you will be pleased! No kamikaze nonsense trying to survive and learn. When you’re hurt you can’t train...

Some background: I took a 10 year break from Brazilian jiujitsu shortly after receiving my blue belt due to an injury. As such, I was really looking for a safe and friendly place to train and grow, and Gracie Barra North Austin is the perfect place for that.Ive been with Gracie Barra North Austin for a year and a half now and I love it. Everyone is incredibly friendly and the instruction is excellent. Ive been able to get back on the mats, improve my game, and am starting to compete again, thanks to the help of my professors. If youre looking for a friendly gym to push yourself, GB North Austin is a great place to train!

Ask Gracie Barra why his associates have not paid the contractor who built his stores in Tennessee and Texas. I am fortunate to only have worked on one of his stores in Austin. The contractor paid me directly, so I did not loose any money. But he mortgaged his house and property to start five or more locations and the partners did not pay him the $400,000 that he earned over two years of sacrifice and service. Do you really want to do business with anyone who forces a good family into poverty?

No other Bjj school can match the philosophy, professionalism, atmosphere and dedication to the art as at Gracie Barra. The training will change your life in every way mentally, physically and spiritually. Of course, you must commit yourself and be diligent and consistent. This place is doing it right and will be family forever.

Im a grad student who visited Austin for a month of dissertation research. Ive been training for about 5 years and wanted to find a place to train while I was away from home. GB North Austin is a fantastic place and Im glad I had the chance to train there. Prof Rodrigo de Moraes is incredibly knowledgeable and demonstrates techniques with great detail (even highlighting points on familiar techniques that I never noticed before). The facilities are kept clean. The group that trains there is a kind and welcoming community that definitely represents the BJJ for all mentality. Ill be recommending GB North Austin to my training partners at my home gym.

These guys wants $450 up front with a year long contract because of the name Gracie Barra. You also cant leave the contract for any reason, which is a bit ridiculous. After the $450, they ask for another $150 a month. Ive taken wing chun with the north American master and they dont ask anywhere near that much. Other BJJ places dont ask for a year contract and also dont ask for half a grand up front. When I called to ask about this, they didnt want to give pricing information and tried to see if Id just go in to see if I like it before discussing pricing. Old sales trick and not a very good one. Further, when I looked up the teacher here on Google, I wasnt able to find any information on him so Im not 100% convinced this is the real deal. Maybe it is, but for $450 and $150 a month, your teacher should have some sort of acclaim or accomplished something to put his name out there. Careful here folks, youre just paying for a name. Check out other places before you stop in, there are better deals and good teach elsewhere.

Only had an okay learning experience while at the gym (i learned more in one session at my new gym then three months at GB), however after I left they have continued to charge my credit card after repeated to written requests to stop.I will happy remove this negative review if the latter problem is resolved.

I am a huge fan of GBNA. I have had the pleasure of watching both family and friends train there over the past several years. The atmosphere is built on friendship and respect. It is fantastic watching people who have been training for years, eagerly and respectfully showing new comers how to improve. Respect your partners and There is no losing in Jiu-Jitsu. You either win or you learn are principals I hear and see at GBNA all the time.

Gracie Barra North Austin is a fanstastic place to train. If you dont already know, Gracie Barra has been one of the top BJJ teams in the world for a very long time. So if youre looking for solid BJJ - whether for self-defense, to improve your health, or even to compete in tournaments, you will get it at Gracie Barra. But more than that, Gracie Barra is a COMMUNITY. When the founder Carlos Gracie Jr. was young, he had a chance to spend a number of years in the mountains of Rio de Janeiro, surrounded by a large contingent of his uncles, brothers, cousins and more, all constantly training jiu-jitsu and living the Gracie lifestyle. This experience imprinted on Carlos the importance of family and of community, not just for learning martial arts, but for living the good life. This is what Gracie Barra is all about. This isnt Gracie SMASH! Or Gracie JUST BLEED! Its Gracie Barra - Barra being the neighborhood in Rio where it was located. And its this neighborhood feel - the feeling of real community, that you will find when you train at GB, even if you go to locations in other towns! And when you meet Professor Ricardo, you will immediately feel how much he cares for his students. I hope no one gets mad at me for telling this story, but when I first came to check it out, there was actually a student who was struggling with payments. Professor Ricardo didnt hesitate to tell him over and over not to worry about it, that they would work it out, to just keep coming and training. I have been training martial arts off an on for a long time, I have trained a variety of places all around Austin over the years, and I have known numerous cool teachers and schools, but I have NEVER heard any of them say something like that! There are a lot of BJJ schools in Austin, and many of them teach good jiu-jitsu. Many of them also have nice people and a good community, and some dont. But I dont know any of them that have a Professor who cares as much about his students, in their lives and in their BJJ. And this is the tone that he sets, and how all the other students are as well. So if youre going to be spending hours upon hours rolling around with a bunch of people, risking your personal safety and trusting it in their hands, dont you want to do it with people you know are looking out for you every step of the way, from your very first day? This is what you will find at Gracie Barra North Austin, and its why I chose to come here after checking out practically every other place in North Austin.
