My husband and I were in the area celebrating our 25th wedding anniversary. I really wanted to go paddle boarding somewhere with beautiful views but had trouble finding detailed information online for rentals (other than general listings for rentals). Then I found the Wai Mauna website which provided EVERYTHING we needed to know about their services. A quick browse had us selecting a 4 mile, guided tour in the late afternoon the very next day! All guided tours are private so you do not join a group of people you don’t know. The next day, our guide, Jackson, and our driver, Steve, were early and ready, waiting for us at the meeting point. On the shuttle ride to the drop-off, they shared information about the area, including suggestions for great places to eat. Once at the drop-off, Jackson handled all of the equipment and gave us an encouraging lesson and tips on having an enjoyable trip. From that point, we were on our way. Jackson was clearly there to keep us safe and to customize the experience for our enjoyment. He offered times of floating/rest and tips on how to stay standing during slightly rougher water. He clearly enjoys what he does and was a great guide. At the end he guided us safely to the exit point, handled all of the equipment for us, and encouraged us to rent SUP again but to handle the trip without him next time! We would recommend this experience to anyone and while I’m sure all of the guides are knowledgeable and great at their jobs, don’t hesitate to try to schedule with Jackson.

Loved this SUP trip. Wai Mauna gets an A+ for logistics: they make it easy to park, to learn all the tips you might need, to get dropped in the river on a board, and then to arrive back at your car with zero hassle. Its a perfect stretch of river to paddle through -- with tree canopies and a good current. Id recommend it to anyone.

My cousin and I did the 7 mile self-guided SUP tour. We had the BEST time. Eric hooked us up with the boards, shuttled us to the drop in location, and met us when we finished. We were lucky enough to have the entire river to ourselves and had the most peaceful, beautiful trip down the French Broad! This would be a great time for most people even with little experience!

The directions to the meetup location were straightforward and easy to follow. Our paddling instruction was catered to our skill level and experience. Equipment was in good working condition. We really wanted to paddle board in the Teton river and we had an outstanding experience. We hadn’t booked ahead but we showed up and we were taken right to the river with all the gear we needed. It was a beautiful day and an absolute highlight of our trip. Couldn’t recommend more highly.

I booked our Asheville/Smokies vacation back in January, at the height of COVID restrictions, hoping for a wonderful outdoor experience. And it did not disappoint. While COVID restrictions are all but gone now in July, and being outdoors isnt as necessary, it was still incredible. Ive wanted to paddleboard for years, and took the 4 mile guided tour twice this week! Once with Steve and once with Eric. Both were fabulous, and taught both me and my 14 year old son great tips and tricks for staying afloat, paddling effectively and efficiently, and navigating rocks and shallow points. They gave all kinds of background on the sport, on Asheville, on the river. And what made it especially great to me -- both Eric and Steve made the tour fun and informative for both me (a mom in her 50s) and my teen son. Trust me, we are two VERY different people, yet the tours were great for both of us. I highly recommend this company.

Steve was super knowledgeable about all things paddle boarding and was a great host. We strongly recommend the paddleboard river excursion to anybody who needs a break from the breweries or mountains. 10/10.

We had two SUP boards delivered right to our lake house dock on Lake Lure. Convenient and best price in the area for daily SUP rentals. Staff was very friendly and professional. My family had a wonderful time using the SUP boards on the lake at our own leisure. Highly recommend Wai Mauna and will use them again when were back in the area!

We managed to be the only ones there but the guy was not only extremely friendly but also gave recommendations about places to eat and spots to see in West Asheville.

My wife and I rented two paddleboards for the 7-mile float and we had a great, relaxing time. We really took it easy the whole way down and it took longer than normal, but they were really fine with that. We had a great time and having a rental and shuttle made the whole experience so easy. Great people.

Steve took us on a great sunrise paddle on the French Broad through the arts district. While you cant experience the actual arts district, the sunrise was spectacular, Steve was incredibly knowledgeable about the town and places to be and go, and the river was empty and peaceful. Would definitely recommend. They were also great about COVID related procedures, safety first!

This is my second time doing a SUP tour with this group. And I already cant wait for my third time. Our guide, Caitlyn, was fantastic. It felt like paddling with a long lost friend. She is very knowledgeable and has the ability to spot turtles, herons, and otter shells like a animal whisperer.We took the 7-mile tour at 8:00 and are so happy we did. This section of the river was quiet - with the occasional canoe or fellow SUPer passing by. When we finished our tour - the area where we got out was packed like a frat house. Lots of tubers, lots of bros. Forget about hearing the sounds of the river if you take a later tour.

Awesome group to rent SUPs with. We did the 4 mile trip and enjoyed it so much we talked about doing it again the following day.

Our family of four did the self guided 11 mile paddle board trip. Tom picked us up at the exit point and explained the course and exit procedure. We were then driven to the starting point where Tom gave us a quick lesson (we had all paddled before) and sent us on our way. He also provided us with a waterproof cell phone case that we could use for the trip. Each board has bungee cords built-in to hold your sandals, waters, go pro etc... The trip was fantastic! It was super relaxing and very easy. We hardly saw another soul for the first 7 miles. Miles 7-11 are with all of the tubers which make for a fun obstacle course. I highly recommend doing the 11 miler, it was the perfect distance and took just about 3.5 hours.

My 29 yr. old daughter and I, paddle board first timers, had a blast on the French Broad. Great experience for our memory banks. Tom, the WM rep, was professional, personable, thorough with instructions. I look forward to paddle boarding at the coast or anywhere choppier water will present more of a challenge.

Awesome company and great time! The staff is very helpful and friendly. Eric gave us a good lesson and made sure we felt comfortable before we set out on the water.Weve been out with them twice in two weeks now. The first was for a date and the second time we took my parents out while they were in town. Great for all ages (my wife and I are 35 and my parents are 65+).They let us use a waterproof phone case so we could take some pics while out on the water. Well be back to do the longer rental! As someone who has never tried paddleboarding I was scared about how helpful the instructor would be, but he did an exceptional job. Tom (the instructor) was very welcoming and well informed about the area and the craft. Theyre many time slots, but I opted for the 6am slot in order to see the sunrise. Before the sun rose Tom walked me through step by step on how to paddleboard. By the time I got in the water I was confident that I knew what I was doing. Overall it was a wonderful experience (Thank you Tom).

What an amazing experience!! Danelle was our guide and was wonderful. Very quickly understood our capabilities and moved us along the right river paths to keep it exciting but always at the pace we wanted. Tom was also wonderful. Did a great job getting us set up for the 3 hour tour. If youve been thinking of doing this, this team is the right one to spend time with!!

We rented stand up paddle board from Wai Mauna Asheville. Jim and Nancy brought it to the cabin where we were staying and then picked it up at end of our stay.

My wife and I had an awesome time. We got a great little lesson and then we set off on our own down the French Broad River. Our guide gave us a great little tour of West Asheville first and even shared a pawpaw fruit with us! That was cool. We liked it so much that we went out and bought our own SUPs one week later.

We had an awesome time. It was our first time paddle boarding, but we kayak and longboard. It was an easy stretch of river and well probably end up buying paddle boards.These guys were great and even gave us a little tour of the surrounding area. 😁

I was a little apprehensive, even doubtful at first. I cant surf, dont do yoga, or any number of activities that would have qualified me for beginner stand-up paddle boarding. Turns out, Erics a fantastic instructor, I have decent balance, and the French Broad is marvelous for newbies cruising down the river. Id definitely do this again!

As Asheville natives we love taking visitors paddling with Wai Mauna. It is a great way to get out on the river and have fun in Asheville.

Had such a great time on the 7 mile paddle! The trip took about 3 hours between paddling and floating down the French Broad. We did the 10am and spent most of the time by ourselves on the river.

Take the Sunset Social SUP paddle. The river is much less crowded and being on the river at sunset was beautiful. Our first SUP and it was awesome. Highly recommend going with Wai Mauna!

Super friendly, funny, lovely staff. They give instructions and tips before you get on the board. You meet at the address given when you make a reservation and they shuttle you to the river from there. They gave us water proof phone protectors so we could take pictures-and didnt charge us a rental fee or require us to purchase them (like other places). The price to rent sups is very reasonable, especially considering the great customer service and equipment. Ive tried other local services but will always reccommend Wai Mauna from now on. Nothing against the others, they were decent and I didnt have any complaints about them. But...Wai Mauna was better! Ill be using them exclusively from now on.

I had a blast paddleboarding down the French Broad with Wai Mauna! They make it so easy and fun! I would recommend Wai Mauna to anyone who wants to try paddleboarding or experience Asheville like a local.

Tom was such a fantastic guide and helpful for our first-time ever stand-up paddleboarding/SUP. We were somewhat intimidated with our first time being on the river, but it wasnt nearly as difficult as I thought. Im actually glad we went down the French Broad for our first to get the feel of it on moving water. Having a great guide makes all the difference. And Tom knows the river from the headwaters in Rosman all the way down to the Holston in TN since hes floated the whole thing, so it was comforting having someone truly guide you and tell you the navigable channels under bridges and near rocks, etc. We had such an incredibly fun time that we immediately went out and bought some boards to start taking with us when we explore rivers and lakes in the area.
