My Mom was here and was treated badly, don’t trust the med department here or qmap staff. When someone acts out of control they overdose their meds and cause them to have stroke of some kind. Then you have no choice because they’re bedridden. I seen this with many new residents that were confused and all of a sudden they were frozen and confined to a wheelchair. Mom got this treatment.Mom was left unattended, left in her bed most of day, soaked in her own urine, bed sores, and the worst is they didn’t try feeding her, I couldn’t move her because of guardianship rules. Hospice was very helpful, the staff here is not trained properly to handle these elderly sick people. The staff treats the elderly horrible here, no compassion or accountability. The food is just awful, powdered drinks and frozen processed food.Mom finally passed away and I feel bad that the way she and others were treated here. Please don’t leave anyone here, check elsewhere. This place should be shut down.Beware the good reviews here are left by staff.

My sister in law is a resident in the Arvada Almost Like Home. We are very happy with her care. They keep us informed of everything that goes on. If she has a fall or sore somewhere they are good about letting her husband know and calling the visiting nurse through Kaiser Insurance. She seems real happy there and my brother is happy with the care she gets. He has good communication with the staff which helps him feel at ease. He tried several other places before we found Almost like home and he took her out within a week. All in All we would recommend Almost Like Home in Arvada.

I have been employed with A.L.H for a decade and im still going strong. Ive experienced so many different personalities from staff and Residents. You may be wondering how do staff treat the residents?I can truly say from my perspective we have some of the most genuine, caring , & loving staff. We take pride in our work and for those staff members who were completely the opposite, they no longer reside at the facility. Whoever said caregiving will be easy? Every day is different, but no matter what the obstacles are or what the day May consist of, staff still strive and provide quality Care. I absolutely recommend those who are in need of memory care for their love ones to bring them to Almost like home, where theyre not just residents, but family!Sincerely,A true legend of caregiving ❤

Ive worked for Almost like Home for over 4 years. I wear many hats around here from cooking to caregiving, gardening, ground keeping and bus driving before this covid crisis. My main job is Maintenance Supervisor. The main thing I enjoy about coming to work is our residents, like many of our caregivers we like to treat our residents like we would treat our own personal families. I could walk into any house and get the hello and smile as if my own grandparent saw there grandchild another day and I appreciate that. I could have the worst day and instantly I would get a smile on my face because of them. In the 4 years Ive worked here, I havent seen one instance of abuse or mistreatment at this facility. If I ever did, I would take it up with management or owner or report it myself. I take the wellfair and safety of our residents the same as you would if they were home.

My Mother has been at Almost Like Home for 2 1/2 years and I continue to be extremely pleased at the level of care she receives. I visit 3 times each week and have never found anything I would describe as questionable. Because My Mom is a vegetarian, I was concerned that it would cause some difficulty for the staff. However, they have conferred with me consistently to assure that she is receiving healthy meals that are appealing. On a daily basis, my Mother is engaged in conversation (despite her Alzheimers diagnosis); she is shown concern for her comfort and happiness; and she is made to feel valued. I believe Tim has created a facility that treats residents with respect and works to preserve individual dignity. His staff is well trained and I have found their communication with me to be clear, timely and well-informed.In addition to constantly caring for my Mom, the staff has been supportive of me and my family as well. Our questions are answered and our concerns are addressed. I was incapacitated this past January and February and unable to visit at my normal times. The staff stayed in contact with me during that time, not only to inform me about my Mothers health/happiness, but also to inquire about my recovery.I am confident that my Mother is in the right place. And I am grateful for Almost Like Home and a staff that truly cares about the residents.

My mom previous assisted living home was closed down by the state. Almost like home came over that day and took at least five residents to their place . They helped move stuff , pick up residents and have just been great. The owner help carry furniture out to the vehicles and anything else we needed. Its been hard on all the residents and the adjustments and the owner and staff have been great. I couldnt think of enough.

My mother is no longer at this facility after many different incidents caused our family to become more and more concerned about the level of care she was receiving. Although I do agree that the staff seems to be caring and the house was clean and fairly well maintained, there were incidents where the staff were not handling medical issues properly. Falls in the shower when she was not supposed to be allowed to shower without supervision. The last incident ended up with her bruised and refusing to go back under any circumstances. I do not believe there was any abuse, but the incident was not handled well. The food is absolutely not up to par. I too saw cheese slices on a hamburger bun and on another occasion canned beans and potato chips for a dinner meal. I dont know, nor do I care if the meals were microwaved or prepared on the stove top, they were not meals that would even be on par with a school cafeteria. The facility she is in now serves meals that may not be fancy, but are well prepared and flavorful as well as nutritionally balanced.I have to say to Linda Smidt that it is very presumptuous of you to say to Beau & Cindi that they dumped their loved one off and expected staff to provide 24-hour individual attention when that is not the level of care they are paying for. We have not dumped our loved ones off, but we absolutely do expect 24 hour attention. That is exactly what we are paying for. They are supposed to be the professionals and we expect them to act as such. Which includes seeking medical attention at appropriate times, not calling family members asking what we want them to do.

My 93 year old mom has been at Almost Like Home since 2015. I am so blessed to have found this home for her. She used to be at a memory care facility with too many residents, long corridors and not enough staff. Almost Like Home is a home for the elderly. The staff is extremely caring giving the residents constant attention, hugs, affection, etc. I regularly go visit my mother. I show up unannounced and am always impressed with the care. My mother is happy and relaxed and I have peace of mind.

My mom has been at Almost Like Home since the end of December 2016. Prior to that she was at a fancy expensive facility that treated her like a prisoner and would call me daily with complaints that were normal to alzheimers. Almost Like Home has been an answer to my prayers. They took my mom in and I have had no complaints about her. They truly understand and know how to handle the behaviors that are normal with the disease. It being only a memory care facility without the Senior living part is a huge plus. It allows the activities director to plan activities and outings that are specific to residents with memory issues. Just last week they attended a seniors prom and my mom was so happy dancing to music. Another huge point in comparison to other facilities is the flat rate. NO PRICE HIKES. What you agree to pay in the beginning is what you pay the whole time. The multi-house neighborhood feel is such a great plan. Gives it a much more home feeling. The deposit was also 90% cheaper than the previous place. I full out recommend Almost Like Home.

I researched and toured many memory care facilities over the course of a year knowing there would come a time when we would not be able to care for my dad at home as his Alzheimers progressed. Almost Like Home was by far the best I found. But still, when the day came when we finally had to admit we needed help, it was a little scary entrusting someone else to care for dad. I could not have been happier by the warmth and true compassion we found, though. For anyone who has ever dealt with a loved one with Alzheimers / Dementia, you know they can be very exhausting at times. We watched as the staff handled dad and all the other residents with kindness, respect and humor. The place was always clean and the residents well cared for. Sadly, dad lost his battle November 13 and in the last days we were there literally around the clock. The staff at Almost Like Home went out of their way to not only care for dad, but us as well during this very difficult time. I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND placing your loved one here when the time comes you need their help.

My Mom has been at ALH for over 2 years. The caregivers are patient and kind. I have been notified when Mom had an issue so I could help in a resolution. I show up there at different times of the day and have never found the residents to be not cared for. It is a safe and secure place and I dont have to worry about Mom 24/7. That alone is a relief. If there ever has been an issue, it was rectified. Thanks for all you do for my Mom

I have several family members that worked there and it’s a big joke! Very unprofessional ran by 20 year olds that the owner finds attractive to work for him and exceed into higher positions rather than people who work hard and care for the residence as if they were their own family. I’m SO happy my grand parents were never put here!!!!

The owner, Tim, then called me to come back and talk and see if it would be a good fit. At the time, I was thinking okay, maybe I should see? And Tim can talk a good game, however, I was taking a paycut, and the continuation of bad practices just seen with the residents and the QMAPs made it so I didnt want my name on any chart as passing a medication. If and when state conducts their next medication cart audits, I do not want my QMAP license to be on the line.I did agree to go back, however after speaking to my previous co-workers from other facilities, I decided it was in my best interest not to.As a very compassionate CNA and QMAP, I have references from families who know their loved ones were never mistreated. I have never been afraid to speak up about elder abuse, and never afraid to speak up about medications being mishandled. The work culture here makes it so you are retaliated against either by the owner, or all your co-workers who believe that team work doesnt make the dream work. The one thing that was said to my face that I found highly offensive, well there are two, was You seem like a well adjusted individual, why do you have tattoos? and what is your legal background? (Tim was asking if I had ever committed and crimes, and as someone who has gone to college and is very well educated this is 100% offensive. My criminal background, which has nothing, shouldve been in my employee file for the owner to see at anytime. Thats the most professional way to handle backgrounds. I also was not being interviewed for hiring, and it was asked as they were trying to convince me to not leave the company).I have now been hired on with a new facility as a LEAD. There is intention to have me in a resident care coordinator position in the next three months. I will be overseeing and training my staff on how to correctly pass medications and use an electronic charting system, and my facility whole heartedly believes in having their residents walk around, no use of bed alarms as restraints, and believes in proper medication administration. To families out there, if you dont think residents pick up on a toxic workplace culture, please think again. And to future employees, it is your license on the line. Only you can protect yourself from bad practices. All the hard work put into obtaining licenses can be gone if the bad practices are truly discovered. (Part 2 of 2)

This is so pathetic that at a point in life when a person needs help and is vulnerable we had to experience what we did at ALH. The customer service was horrific. I went in for an informational tour as I am looking for a family member. The young woman was not professional with her presentation and how she was expressing her knowledge or lack of the policies and procedures. I was hearing employee conversations that were not appropriate, and she was not trained properly, couldnt answer the question I asked regarding the community. First impressions are important in this case. Because of the lack of attentiveness and unclear information this environment would not be a match for my family member or anyone I know.

I used to consider Almost Like Home to be the best job I ever had. I spent nearly 7 years being employed there. During that time I was constantly putting my best foot forward to try to prove myself and advance in the company despite issues a long the way. I strived to do my best at Almost Like Home, not only to make the owner look good while I was employed at his facility, but also to impress my aunt, Mara, who was the staff manager at the time. Despite claims of nepotism I was treated as your average employee by Mara. I received my share of write ups and constructive criticism on my performance by her and if anything she was harder on me than the rest of the staff. There are still current employees there that can vouch for that. I decided to end my employment for Tim VanMeter after being over looked (yet again) and having a promotion taken right out of my hands to be given to one of his employees he frequently calls attractive and has pet names for. For every potential employee interview I conducted at Almost Like Home I informed them of the opportunity to advance in the company if they worked hard and put their best foot forward. This was a lie. Hard work and loyalty is NOT what gets you promoted there, pawning off your responsibilities, having a bad attitude, and threatening/ beating up other staff members at ALH is what gets you promoted.Dont worry Tim, the job I had the day I quit pays me more for doing half of what I did for you, and they will not need your recommendation for my employment as they have already heard their fair share of stories about your company.Sincerely, a happier ex-employee Samantha David.

One of the worst facilities My mother has been in. The owner Tim, is trying to steal my mothers property on her moving day. He now is saying that anything that is attached to the walls, (bolted down as he puts it) is now his property. None of which was in the contract that was signed by both parties. The level of care in this facility is lowest on the scale of 1 to 10. My mother has laid for hours in her own soiled linens, with no help from the staff to get her out of bed and cleaned. The meals are mostly done in the microwave and almost prison style at best with no nutritional value. My advice is to stay away from this facility, but if you must go, make sure you document all belongings as this is the way this facility accumulates their amenities for future residents. The owner and the staff have verbally and emotionally abused my mother countless times and we are glad to be moving on.

Updated 11-13-17: It makes me very sad to see that personnel issues are being aired in this forum. Whatever issues staff/former staff have with the owner/management should not reflect on the quality of care the residents receive at ALH. The staff I met while my Mom lived at ALH were the most caring, loving and hardworking people I have encountered in an assisted living facility.Updated 11-7-17: Sadly my Mom passed away on October 3, 2017. I have been greatly comforted by the fact I always knew she was well taken care of but now realize how very much she was loved. I always felt guilty because I couldnt be there as often as I wanted but now know the staff and caregivers were her family and that she was home! I will always be grateful to ALH for providing my Mom with a wonderful place to spend the last years of her life.Updated 7-18-17: First let me emphatically state, I am NOT an employee getting a kick-back for posting a positive review! My Mom has been at resident at Almost Like Home since April 2012. I do believe some of the low ratings are from disgruntled employees who were terminated by Almost Like Home for not providing the standard of care expected of staff. The claims of meals consisting of cheese and potato chips are ridiculous - I have been there many times when meals are being prepped/served and while they are definitely not gourmet, they are nutritious, hot and appealing. They almost always have dessert of some sort and are offered sweet snacks mid-morning and mid-afternoon.Mari Geolfos - you misunderstood my comment. Almost Like Home does provide 24-hour care but are not able to cater to one resident over another. If families expect that level of care, they need to place their loved one in an apartment and hire 24-hour private nursing. It is a sad fact that folks with Dementia/Alzheimers are going to deteriorate no matter what level of attention they receive. It is not fair to say they only reason they went downhill is because they were not stimulated by staff every waking hour.Bottom line - if you dont like Almost Like Home, you have the option of moving your loved one to whatever place you think will provide better care. Coming from someone who has seen other similar care facilities (with my Mom and other family members), I can honestly say it would be hard to find another place that offers the same level of care in the warm and homey environment of Almost Like Home.My Mom has lived at Almost Like Home for over 5 years. She has always received excellent, loving care. The staff truly cares about the residents and management (especially Mara) is always attentive when I raise concerns. Tim Van Meter has created residences that are homey and unlike your usual facilities that provide this level of care. My Moms house is always clean and well maintained. Meals are nutritionally balanced and are NOT prepared in a microwave! Not sure what Beau & Cindi are talking about - sounds to me like they may be family members who dumped their loved one off and expected staff to provide 24-hour individual attention when that is not the level of care they are paying for. The staff contacts my Moms physician immediately when they have concerns and then they contact me to let me know what was recommended. Please be assured if you place a family member here, they will be loved and very well cared for.

Do not place your loved one here. The food they serve is questionable. On two separate occasions the meal they served was sliced cheese on a hamburger bun with chips, and frozen vegetables with mashed potatoes. The staff is also incompetent when actually dealing with a medical situation. On one occasion they contacted me and my sister to tell us my mother was having a problem and they didnt know what to do. After several hours, they finally took her blood pressure and it was VERY high. Instead of calling an ambulance, they called us again to ask what they should do. Incompetent.Needless to say, she is no longer living at this facility.
