Using the gym during the week is inconvenient, as there are fewer courts available for use for gym members. With only one court available today, which was in use by a large amount of picket ball players, I was unable to complete my desired workout. In the future, I would appreciate more courts being accessible. I think it would be beneficial to return to reserving a spot on the court as there was during the bulk of the pandemic.

I really only use the Y for the lap pool. Reservations only which make it ok, except you end up having to share a lane about half the time - which I absolutely hate. Lately I have just left. I know many do not mind, but I just dont enjoy the workout at all. They do not check reservations any more so Im not sure what the point is. If anyone just shows up at the top of the hour, they can hop in. I guess thats why there is so much lane sharing.

I love that there is something for everyone in my family. I can get a full workout in while my daughters are in the play room (included in my membership, no additional cost) and my sons enjoy the pool, rock wall, computers or ping pong. I think it is a great value. I love the group classes in Arnold (especially Zumba with Jen..she is an incredible dancer and teacher.) I like having the stay and play option for my kids. My 9 year old loves the rock wall. Being able to use the beautiful pool in Pasadena is a big bonus. My son had the day off from school on Tuesday, and we spent 3 hours at the Pasadena Y...swimming, then lunch at Jacks, then racquetball. I especially appreciate having a Y membership during colder months because the Y offers so many active, indoor activities to keep my family healthy and moving.

The instructor (Nicky) for Lvl A-Water Discovery Age 6 mos - 3 yrs Parent/Child is amazing. She is very nice, great teacher, makes everyone feel comfortable (to include the little ones). Shes great with the kids, which is evidenced by her being able to take my 1.5-year-old on the first day and complete the assigned tasks with her without any fuss (which is normally the case, i.e. stranger danger). I think this facility is ok if you are going alone as an adult to work out, but as a family membership, we have been continually disappointed by the offerings for younger children. The rock wall is the main attracting feature for our older kids, and the Y has recently added new staff who actually help the kids (ages 6+ allowed) learn to climb, as opposed to just standing there talking to each other.Swim lessons have been hit or miss depending upon the instructor and progress has, in the main, been slow. They have been working to revamp the swim program and it, like the rock wall, has improved but isnt quite there yet. Maybe soon.I will never again use their stay and play program as the people manning it are completely incompetent. We have had 3 bad experiences there thus far, the most recent one involving their needing to contact us for our child, but they couldnt remember his name to figure out what parents to contact, and hes not old enough to tell them. Recently, we had a similar experience with their camp staffing, and I doubt we will attend camp there again, either. The tumble room has also been a constant issue for us, with older children often coming in unattended and playing too hard for smaller ones. Also, staff dont check in on the state of the room--or just dont care about it--to make sure the floor padding is dispersed correctly to keep the floor safe as opposed to piled into a fort in the corner. Ive complained several times about this over the course of a year and seen no improvement. So, if youre a parent hoping to drop your young kids and get your workout, Id keep looking. If you go to the gym by yourself, or are interested in the rock wall or pool, its all right.

Since it was my first time working with a personal trainer I wasnt sure what to expect. Hayden has been wonderful to work with. He keeps me motivated through each session and really pushes me to my limits. Exactly what I want in a trainer! I have been training with Hayden just over a month and I can already see the difference and improvements. I look forward to continuing to work with Hayden and will be recommending him to anyone looking for a trainer.

Like anything else in life, you get out of it what you put into it. I have never expected any trainer to lead me by the hand through my workouts. I have always had polite and professional interaction with the staff here.Since the switch from the Big V to the Y, I have seen a much more diverse group of members. The aerobic or spinning gangs seemed to rule the roost in the past. I think it is nice to see people here for the healthy reasons. While it was the V, so many posers roamed the exercise floor not doing a thing but looking around to see who was watching them. I guess if thats what you are looking for, try a night club. The Y now seems more balanced, friendly and nonjudgmental.

Having been a member of Big Vanilla (its previous name before the Y took over), Ill admit it wasnt perfect. Then again, its a gym - its not supposed to be. I dont have kids I drop off or use any of the classes/trainers, I just show up to work out. Period. When the Y took over, I felt the club might go downhill. Its now been six months and, yes, it has. Overcrowded, kids are free to roam the workout areas, machines are broken and it takes weeks to fix them...just things that make my usual workout a lot more stressful.I spoke with the Membership director today and told him that I wished to cancel my membership (going to join Big Vanilla in Pasadena, its worth the extra 10 minute drive) and he told me I had to submit it in writing with 30 days notice. When asked if he could do anything else I inquired as to if he was curious as to why I was resigning my membership. No, not really. I dont like to get involved. was his response. And that, in a nutshell, pretty much sums up the club nowadays.

Tons of renovations but no new gym equipment or maintenance of the current stuff. Right now the gym floors are being redone and all the equipment has been moved to the tennis court. Everything is so disorganized, I only found one container of equipment wipes in the whole area. Im also really disappointed that they have not set back up the fitquest kiosk, and I now cant print my workout. The rock wall is also out of use just in time for the kids out in summer. Im also interested to know why its so important to put in a fire place right before summer. They raise prices but dont add anything us long standing members use. My husband has already quit and goes to golds gym now. Right now Im just keeping my membership for the pool access and will have to re eval after summer.

My daughter’s swim instructor, coach Wyatt, is one of the best instructor she had. My daughter can’t barely swim 25 meters when started last August and after 3 sessions, she was able to swim 50 meters and learned butterfly. Coach Wyatt’s methodology of teaching is so effective because she learned a lot for a short duration of time and she really enjoyed the class. I’m so impressed so we decided to sign her up again with the same instructor and now, she’s already swimming 100 meters with matching flip turns. I highly recommend coach Wyatt and all the swimming instructors and lessons here at Arnold and I will continue to sign up my daughter for future advance swim classes in this location. I wish The Y in Arnold offers Pre-Competitive swimming lessons since the instructions here are awesome. Kudos to the whole Yin Arnold especially the swimming coaches, staff and instructors.Update on Dec.11, 2019: My daughter took an Advance Swim lesson and her instructor, Mr. Paul, was awesome. My daughter not only learned new techniques, she was able to developed her stamina and endurance with coach Paul’s help. They did some drills that really help my daughter prepare for the swim team so when she signed up and joined the try out, she got in to the team. I highly recommend the swim lessons there in Arnold.

Havent written a review before this but I thought Id let tennis players looking to play at The Y know before they go or call. Had a friend who called in and they told him courts are available from 9 to 10am. We thought great lets go play for an hour. As usual we got there and the courts were already taken by other tennis players which is understandable but still frustrating when we were told open courts. We went to the front desk and they told us the courts were open courts until 10am. We asked both tennis groups what time they would be off and the first one said 9:30 am. Having it already be 9:20 we thought great we will play for 30mins. We went back up to the front desk and got a crank for the nets to be raised. About 3 mins till we saw the lady from the front desk come over with a young girl. The young girl walked onto the court and the lady started pressing the buttons to lower the basketball hoops. My friend and I were surprised because we had been waiting for 30 mins for the courts and we were told we could go on at that time. So we asked what was happening and said that no we were waiting. The employee raised the hoops back up and we were able to go on finally. We raised the net and were getting our gear out when the other guy from the front desk walked on. He told us that at 9:30 the courts were for basketball. I thought to myself then why were we told a thousand times that it was open courts till 10am. He said well this is a basketball court and I pointed to the tennis net. Both a basketball court and a tennis court meaning both were open to play till 10am. He was sure that at 9:30 basketball had the court because it said so on the schedule. I told him that every time we talked to the front desk there was no schedule. Finally we were able to play after I said we were gonna play for the 30min period. About 5 minutes into hitting they put down the basketball hoops right on top of our heads. Unbelievable. If you are looking to play tennis here, then you are looking in the wrong place.

I’m disappointed by this ymca. My boyfriend and I have only been members here for a month. It’s pretty overpriced for what it is. I pay $80 for both of us. 24 hour fitness in Annapolis is cheaper and cost less. It’s also frustrating that there is always kids running around everywhere. I went to get the last treadmill and a kid ran and beat me to it. I didn’t know little kids could use the gym equipment? It’s already crowded as it is. Plus, I tried some of the classes in the dance studio and it’s awful. I’m working out while little kids are in the air doing rock climbing. Talk about a distraction. I worry that one day the rock climbing gear will break. The dance classes also play the music loud which is nice if you’re in the classes but not so nice if you are using the cardio equipment and want to listen to your own music with headphones. The construction is a mess and has supposedly been going on for many many months. Overall, ymca is a huge letdown.

Shame On You...So I just want to share a little bit of an experience that happened to us this past weekend at the Y in Arnold, MD. God forbid you are handicapped and go there. Please read on.We went there to try and enjoy a nice sunny day at the pool. Mind you, it’s taken my sister Melissa Smith YEARS to gain the confidence to even get in a bathing suit and go to anyone’s pool. Upon arriving to the pool, we asked for assistance from a young (maybe teenage) lifeguard with the wheelchair lift to get my sister in and out of the pool. She glared at us and said “I cant help you right now”….and she said it SO nasty. I told her don’t worry about it, I would find someone who could. The next life guard I asked (also very young) informed us they didn’t know how to work the wheelchair lift. Another slap in the face. Our next step was to just do it our damn selves. So at 3 months pregnant, me and another guest at the pool lift my sister into the wheelchair lift. The buttons were not working so we had to manually push the lift side to side in order to get her above the water. Getting the chair up and down DID work, but side to side, not so much. Once we got her into the pool, we were informed by the pool director that the CHAIR WAS BROKEN. There was a missing part that had it not functioning 100%. You can imagine how frustrating it was for us at this point. Why wasn’t there a NOT WORKING sign?? Why aren’t these life guards/staff properly trained in how to use a chair lift?? We’ve been members of that gym for 10+ years BEFORE my sisters paralysis and that was more than enough for us to NEVER go back there.I called in with my frustrations on Friday and was told I would DEF hear from someone on Monday. Tuesday rolls around, NO call. When I finally threaten to go on Social media (Why should it take that to get a call back)... I finally get a call back today. The director finally contacted me almost 1 full week after the incident. He apologized and said a training would be taking place as well as a sign be put up that the chair is not working (said he hadnt had a chance to see if theyd put a sign up yet) and he hopes that we come back..I tried to explain it better for someone “able-bodied” to understand. This situation is like your kid getting on a ride, or ANYTHING for that matter, being talked to and treated terribly and to then find out it’s broken and that your kid could had been severely injured. Had she fell out of that chair we would have had A MUCH bigger problem on her hand.THANKFULLY, the GUESTS (NOT THE STAFF) at the pool were more than willing to assist us pull and lift her in and out of the pool safely. When I suggested to the director that they consider comping her membership whether it be for 1 month, 6 months, or a year…. I was told that wont be happening and that they do plan to have training on the chair and to fix what happened. It’s a little to late To “FIX” what happened here. When a machine in the gym is broken, a sign goes up on it immediately to prevent an accident or injury from happening …..what a shame that a wheelchair lift for handicapped doesn’t get the same treatment. We will be looking for a new pool in Anne Arundel county to join for the summer so if you know somewhere, please let us know.SHAME ON YOU GUYS! Feel free to spread the word... If you are in a wheelchair, dont waste your time or money.
